Dining early when it was quiet on Saturday night got us a booth on one side of the restaurant with control of the tv. Great soup with chicken dumpling (two daily choices). Did go with the broasted chicken and rib (baby back) combo. Would recommend just going with just the chicken instead, and step up to a half chicken at that for just a dollar or so. Not a baby back rib fan, should have figured so and won't ding them on it. Dinner came with a choice of vegetable and potato sides along with ice cream. Breakfast is an all day option minus waffles. Comfortable booth seating. ----------- Day 2: Saturday - longer list of specials available Vegetable and creamy chicken rice soups were good and promising start. We ordered the roast turkey and the prime rib specials that came with the choice of soup and potato. Dinners off the regular menu would include a choice of vegetable and ice cream/pudding. The prime rib which I ordered medium rare, cooled down rather quickly. Maybe ordering it medium would have given it a better balance of temperature and doneness. Guessing this was prepared via a roast cooked to rare, cooled, and then cooked again when ordered which makes it tricky to get it to the right doneness and temperature without over/undercooking? The roast turkey was on the dry side and the dressing a little bland. In hindsight, might have considered their country fried steak or the breaded pork tenderloin with better results - something made to order and not require cooking in advance/twice-cooking. read more

We arrived at 10:00 on Sunday morning. While my wife is not, I'm a breakfast guy. Today we decided oh lunch, which was a different menu. We both ordered the french dip. Came with soup which was very good. The french dip was...Horrible...Not hot, tepid. The roast bwleef was not sliced but kind of shredded which caused it to drop into au juice sauce from the dry hogoe style bun. That was yhe high points... It gets worse.. We sat down at our table and the staff assisted in getting chairs moved to accumulate my wife who is in a chair. The waitress had a table on the other end of the place so we did not see her for awhile. 20 minutes later my wife asked another waitress if we could have our soup, and as she brought it, our waitress brought our food. Staff is super friendly! Food was delicious and quick. We picked this place based on the waiting time at other breakfast establishments. So glad that we did. Party of 7 seated immediately and served fresh, tasty coffee!! Definitely recommend this place; it doesn't look like much but it is obvious that the staff gets along and they all serve their food with love. read more

Food and service not good. Not very clean either. Just not impressed in the least. Just my opinion of course.

Our fish fry on Friday was worth the extra effort due to road construction in the area. The fried fish was moist on the inside with a crisp breading and my meal included a side salad, baked potato, corn and dinner roll. Not only was the food good, we received excellent customer service from staff that remembered us from our last annual visit. We eat at least one meal here when visiting Wisconsin Dells each May and consider this an important part of our plans. read more

It was ok not great. The stuff French toast didn't come with anything, ordered a side of hash browns that tasted meh. The cinnamon french toast was good, can't mess up eggs but the sasuge links were dry. The service was good with a full restaurant. Our waitress is super quiet, hard to hear her tho. read more

This place is okay. I had been visiting some friends in Baraboo and this is the place they decided on. Holy menu options! You name it, they made it. I couldn't believe the wide range of food there was. Made me wonder what the freezer turnover was like because it also seemed like they don't get very many customers. It's a nice enough place. My friends new the waitress, who was also the daughter of the owners. She was very friendly and attentive. But, we were also the only ones. I got a burger, as did my friends. I asked for medium rare, it came well done. It was fine. Not the best, not the worst. Would I willingly go again on my own? No. Would I go if I was in baraboo and my friends wanted to? This place is a disaster. Walked in into this place. I should have known better that to stay. It's an older restaurant but the staff was friendly so we decided to try it. The food is bad. I ordered pork chops. They where drier than a drought in Death Valley. My dinner also came with mashed potatoes and gravy. They had such a strange taste. I went to culinary school and I had no idea why they tasted like that. So I'll never be coming back. I would not wish this place on my worst enemy. read more

Walking in, we were immediately greeted and welcomed to sit at a table of our choosing. We ordered our sodas (coca-cola products), and our waiter returned in perfect timing with out appetizers. We ordered the chicken rice soup, which was very delicious! Then came the fried mushrooms, which were very crunchy and fresh. Our burgers were really good. My sister and I were staying in the Baraboo area to go snow tubing at Cascade Mountain, and our motel was next door to the Four Star Family Restaurant. Since we were tired from a morning of driving up from Chicago and then several hours of fast tubing action, we didn't feel like driving anywhere else or walking too far, so we moseyed on over to the FSFR. We were seated right away, it wasn't too busy as it was late afternoon, just before retiree dinner hour. The friendly and sassy waitress took our orders, and brought our drinks right away. I ordered a decaf, iced tea, a Reuben with fries and the chicken and dumpling soup. My sister had a coffee, diet pepsi, BLT with fries and the cheesy broccoli soup. The coffee was good diner coffee, but the iced tea was not good. The first sip was reminiscent of pickles (which could've been my imagination), but aside from that, it didn't taste like iced tea, or really anything else. But of course, I didn't say anything or send it back, because yes, I'm lame. The chicken and dumpling soup was good, heavy on the dumplings. My sister liked her cheesy broccoli soup. The sandwiches arrived soon after, and my Reuben was really good. It wasn't overfilled with corned beef like a jewish deli, but had a generous helping. My sister's BLT was perfect - the right ratio of B to L to T on nicely toasted bread. But then there were the fries. THE FRIES. I like fries, and I know they're not good for you so I usually sub a salad, but man, was I glad I ordered the fries this time. We stayed at the thunderbird hotel next door and because it was freezing we went to this cozy diner next door instead of the log cabin that had better reviews. But this place actually had amazing breakfast. The staff were super friendly, fast service, and great food. Eggs were super fluffy, sausage links delicious and great hash browns. I think it tastes better than Dennys and ihop. It definitely exceeded our expectations. read more

The only reason we ate here was because the line for The Log Cabin was out the door and starting in the parking lot. So, we tried this place. This was the first and only time in my life that I left mid-meal. They brought the wrong food, never refilled coffee and when they did bring the right food it tasted so so bad we left it on the plate, got up, paid and left. I am SOO impressed! This restaurant is truly family owned and operated. It is clean, the owner makes sure your needs are tended to and the food is quality! Servers are enthuastic for the most part and the coffee keeps a comin - great for a coffee drinker like me! The menu is varied - mostly traditional American but there is a nice variety and since I eat there at least 2 times a week I have tried about everything on the menu...and have yet to be disappointed but anything. The food portion vs cost is very good. You will not leave here hungry. They allow substitutions - the owner Isak has a better attitude than Burger King - he believes you should have it your way. Husband and I are regulars here, so take that into consideration with my review. We come back here for the constant dependable good food and amazing HOMEMADE soup (the dad makes it.) Oh, and the french fries are sooo good. We take orders to go! They just recently changed their menu, so the prices increased a little; but not enough to dissuade us to come back (...you're really only talking a few dollars more.)
