And you create a space that honors the building and updating it with warm wood and fixtures, you're doing it right in my opinion. I loved the selections offered here and so did my daughters and granddaughter. Yes, I bought books here and my granddaughter was thrilled. There's a dedicated children's area with nice seating for them. There was a touch of magic there. Kids were happy and couldn't wait to get to the next book. That is what a book store is supposed to be about. I met the owners and both are genuinely nice and they care about their customers and their business. Both are very knowledgeable and more than happy to help in any way. If you're in Denton, you need to drop in and browse around - I bet you walk out with a great book!

Patchouli Joe's Books was an okay bookstore for me…read more After reading some of their amazing reviews, and exploring some of the other bookstores around Denton I had high expectations for this store. However, I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, if their inventory was really low after Indie Bookstore Day the weekend before, or if the stars just weren't aligned that day but the store itself was very empty. The book selection was minimal and the staff was not exactly helpful. Frankly the store felt too big for the minimal amount of books they had. Also customer service was absent that day and after asking some questions to the person at the counter you could tell he just didn't want to be there. The difference in customer interaction between this store and others around Denton was like night and day. Would I come back to Patchouli? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my first stop when visiting Denton.

This shop couldn't be more adorable if it tried!…read more I give it 5 stars for being a local small business and for promoting other local businesses. That's awesome and I can get behind that. The soap is $9 for 5 ounces, except the sea salt soaps which are $11. I was told if we bought 3, we get a special deal- $22 I think. We bought one to try out and see how long it lasts, handmade soap is the kind of thing we buy on vacations, so I was excited to try it. We purchased the lemongrass shea butter and it's nice, if not a little rough, and has a lovely, refreshing fragrance. This place isn't cheap for a regular, weekly shopping trip, but everything in this store would make an amazing gift!!! I was amazed at the array of products- jewelry, kitchenware, candles, handmade bags, notebooks, etc. My favorites that I filed away for future gifts were the beautiful bookmarks and the gemstone nightlights. Just gorgeous! My mom and mother in law would LOVE it here! At the time we stopped in, a Saturday mid afternoon, we were the only customers. There was an event going on near the square, so I'm sure that may have been part of the reason. It may also be because they are slightly hidden at the corner of their parking lot, next to a chiropractors office off Elm and Congress. They are the next lot over from where The Cupboard was and the next street over from Seven Mile Café for reference. They are open 10-6pm on weekdays, 10-4pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The employee was friendly and let us know more about the business. Everything in the store is either made by them or a local business owner. I love places with this kind of business practice and though it's not a cheap gift shop, the pricing definitely matches the quality of the products. They have a loyalty program- you get a point for every product you purchase. Once you get 10 points, you get a free soap! I think this is a must stop if you need a gift for a birthday, anniversary or celebration!

I don't know if I have ever purchased shortcut soaps, but I can tell you these soaps are wonderfully nicer than any others I have tried. Soft on the skin , scents are restrained, not too subtle and not overpowering. Goldilocks would be a fan, they are just right. I will be going back for more, now that I have tried lavender lulu, I am really glad they have a deal on 3 bars!

I said I love shopping there for random trinkets. She said really rudely, "Oh is that what you think we are known for, random trinkets?" I decided not to buy the angel from this business. Bought a card I needed to get for my mom and left. Quickest way to lose business is a poor attitude. She was rude and condescending. Will take my business elsewhere.

She made a short, rude comment to me before I left. Once upon a time, I enjoyed shopping at J's Hallmark. But after today's visit, I will travel to Lewisville or Highland Village or Plano, just to avoid this distasteful encounter. I had planned to buy my favorite Wood Wick Candles here, but left as soon as was humanly possible, because of this unsightly woman. I am disappointed in Hallmark for allowing a rude woman like this to represent their joyful, fabulous company, especially this time of year! I plan to write to corporate because of how unpleasant my experience was today. In fact, I notice I am not the only Yelp reviewer to be disgruntled by this middle-aged woman with short blond-ish hair and stocky build.
