I brought in a bracelet I purchased on vacation because it was too large, and I had a few diamonds removed for resizing. I later decided to use those diamonds to create a custom necklace. Throughout the process, I shared inspiration photos and discussed several design options before deciding on a curved bar pendant with a white gold chain. There was some miscommunication along the way regarding both the pendant style and chain selection, which I understand can happen when most communication is done through text. I even sent additional inspiration photos and screenshots from previous conversations to help clarify the look I was hoping to achieve. Once I received an updated image of the design, I felt much more confident and excited about the final piece. When I picked up the necklace, I did love the curved design itself, but I was disappointed in the diamond setting. The diamonds are much more covered than the stones in my bracelet, which makes them appear less visible and takes away some of the sparkle. Since the necklace was created from the same diamonds as the bracelet, I had hoped the setting would have a more similar look and feel so the pieces would complement each other as a set. (It don't have Cutlet Holes to allow light in at all) Overall, I think the concept and craftsmanship had great potential, and despite the communication challenges, I likely still would have left a stronger review had I been happier with the final setting. Unfortunately, the way the diamonds were set is what ultimately left me disappointed. read more

I found this gem on yelp and decided to try it out based on the lovely reviews. We walked in and were instantly greeted by the friendly staff. They took her watch and immediately began working on it. While we waited my mom saw a ring that caught her eye. One of the sweet ladies helped us out and got the ring out for her to gander at then proceeded to give her the info on a business card as well as help her find out what her ring size is. The clasp of my gold chain was no longer working, so I brought it here to have it fixed. They said it was "impossible" to fix, and it needed to be replaced. So over $150 dollars and a few days later, I pick up my chain that was clean, polished, and functional. Except the new clasp is cheaper, smaller, lighter weight, and a slightly different color gold than the original. They kept the old clasp without telling me that they were going to, with their response being "theres nothing you can do with a broken clasp." Two years ago I lost a beautiful pearl and chocolate diamond earring with the set my sweet husband bought for me as a wedding gift 14 years ago. So for Christmas last year my husband took the remaining earring to Peoples Jewelry on Elm st here in Denton. My husband worked so hard to get that earring duplicated. He told them to duplicate regardless of cost. When I opened the box and tears streamed down his face. They also streamed down mone for two reasons. One because he cared enough to replace the lost earring and the other to see that they had not duplicated it at all. the pearls were white and my set was champagne. There was a single diamond not the beautiful chocolate diamonds. I have grieved the loss of the earring but felt uncomfortable saying anything to my husband. In the new box of earrings there was not the original earring that they were to duplicate. Now they say they used the one pearl. But they had two white pears but not the champagne colored or choc diamonds. So they have lied and failed to return the original I strongly recommend anyone shopping there proceed with extrecaution. I grew up in Denton and my family always went to First People's for our jewelry repairs... but those were always small things like removing or adding watch links, replacing watch batteries, or basic cleanings. I'm not much of a jewelry person and could count the diamonds I own on one hand, so I really have had no need to go back since childhood. I inherited a unique diamond ring from my great grandma (circa 1910 or so) that I've always hoped would be an engagement ring someday. The metal is platinum and the thin band my from when GG had the stone set was bent and misshaped by the time I got it. I also prefer thicker bands on rings, so replacing and widening the band was a requirement for whoever was proposing to me. :) Not so free after all! My fiance' took the ring to multiple big name jewelers to get quote to replace the band, but they refused to do the work because of the age and nostalgic value of the ring. He finally ended up at First People's and was quoted about $150-200 more than the other quotes he had received. When he mentioned this, the salesperson at First People's got approval to drop the price to match right then and there. They did a great job on keeping the original setting and widening the band and had it ready for pick-up less than a week later. I don't wear any other rings to compare, so my fiance' just guessed on my ring size, but ended up being a size and a half off. I had to wear a ring spacer after our engagement just to keep the ring on my finger. First People's downsized the ring to the right size at no cost- even though they didn't sell us the ring! The woman (Kelsey?) we spoke to was really helpful with advise on getting the correct size... I wanted to play it safe and only go down a size just in case my fingers would swell in summer, but she convinced me to go with the right size and I'm so grateful! My finger adjusted to the new ring and this ended up the absolute perfect fit. ANOTHER way they've gone over and above- when I took my ring in for the band resizing I was in a rush when leaving. I quickly looked at the ring when they brought it out and stuck it back on my finger without a second thought. As I was driving back to work I noticed a dark spot in one of the surrounding settings. Turns out one of the tiny diamonds was missing. I freaked out, just about got in a car wreck turning around, and ran right back to the Jewelers. I was on hands and knees in the parking lot checking my floor boards, but found nothing. By the time I made it back in the store I was almost in tears. When I spoke with the saleslady she said they would replace the stone at no cost (wow!) but that it might take a week or so because they were pretty backed up. My wife brought in her wedding ring for repair ... she had lost one of the stones. Well, after a week, First People's Jewelers was appalled to report to us that the ring had been stolen from them ... they actually had a video of the guy reaching across the counter to grab the ring and walk off with it. Of course they never found him. So they expressed their sincere apologies and created a new ring for her from scratch! We had a (sort of blurry) photo of the original ring, and their re-creation might actually be a bit nicer than the original. They probably got some insurance money to help cover it, but I'll still bet they took a loss on the deal. We have nothing but good things to say about First People's Jewelers. I recently brought my gold wedding band in for resizing after a minor baseball injury made my ring finger knuckle too big for the ring any more. We've bought a few pieces from them directly and had some jewelry repaired. They even helped my youngest son order a locket for his girlfriend for Christmas one year and were very patient and helpful with him and the fact that he had a limited budget in which to spend. They didn't care how much he was spending, they offered him the same 5 star service they would offer someone spending thousands on a diamond ring. I cannot express how disappointed I am with First People's Jewelers. I brought my engagement ring in on a Saturday to get resized. My fiance had put an inscription inside the ring which was quite sentimental. The employees of First People's Jewelers assured me numerous times that the inscription would not be harmed, seeing as there was plenty of room on the side of the ring to cut it and size it down. They said it would be finished by the end of the week. They never called me, so I ended up calling them the following Friday to check on the status of my ring. They told me it would be finished by 3:00 that day, and I had my parents go pick it up for me. When my parents went in to First People's Jewelers, they gave an employee the pickup receipt and the employee went in the back to go look for my ring. At first, she couldn't even find it. Then she asked if my parents were sure it was an engagement ring, and not a wedding ring. I'm pretty sure my parents knew it was an engagement ring, since I'm not even married yet! When the employee finally found my ring, my mom asked her if the inscription was alright. The employee said there was no inscription, and had the audacity to question my mom whether there had even been an inscription in the first place! When I saw my ring later that day, I was pretty disappointed. The inscription was completely removed, and not only had I not agreed to this, but they didn't even contact me to let me know of their mistake. Furthermore, the re-sizing was poorly done. The section of the band that was altered is now wavy. When I lay my ring on a flat surface with the diamond hanging off the side, I would expect the entire band to lay flat, but it doesn't anymore. It just looks sloppy. For people that "pride" themselves on 40+ years of experience, I would have expected more careful and accurate workmanship. In summary, please please PLEASE take your business elsewhere. The customer service is awful and so is their workmanship. read more

I recieved a watch for Christmas but unfortunately it didn't fit my wrist. I browsed Yelp to find a place to go to. There were a couple places that you could request a quote. I requested quotes from both Nasr Brothers and First People's Jewelers. I ended up going to First People's because they were closer and they said they would not charge. Nasr Brothers charged $10. They adjusted the watch right away only taking a couple mins. I was a little confused though. I was quoted no charge but the lady who helped me said that sometimes they charge $5. Had this place size my antique engagement ring and they did a four-star job, but the service is more like two-star, and I will tell you why. First, the guy I dealt with was just kind of unfriendly. Not rude, but just not eager to ravish me with his customer service skills. He looked at the ring, sized my finger, and told me it'd be about a week. Then, he told me it was going to be $68. Now I have never had a platinum ring resized before, but that seems steep to me. I had estimated $40. I chalked it up to the ring being platinum though, and still am, mostly so that I can sleep at night without agonizing over whether First People's Jewelers ripped me off. Lastly, the aforementioned indifferent salesman forgot to take down my phone number, so they had no way of calling me to let me know it was ready to pick up. Luckily, I was overeager to get it back so I called them after 6 days. read more
