Brought my mom in to get a new watch battery. She used to have go to spot in Lewisville but that has now become too far of a drive. I found this gem on yelp and decided to try it out based on the lovely reviews. We walked in and were instantly greeted by the friendly staff. They took her watch and immediately began working on it. While we waited my mom saw a ring that caught her eye. One of the sweet ladies helped us out and got the ring out for her to gander at then proceeded to give her the info on a business card as well as help her find out what her ring size is. The place had such a pleasant feel and we were informed that this business has been around for 51 years. My mom and myself were very impressed overall. I will be back in the near future.

I went to First People to just check on having a ring design for my better half and before i left i had decided to have them design it. I was nervous after i left but after talking with Jessica and the owner I was felt alot better and at the end i was totally happy and they went beyond my expectations. I highly recommend First People's and be sure to ask for Jessica!!!

I grew up in Denton and my family always went to First People's for our jewelry repairs... but those were always small things like removing or adding watch links, replacing watch batteries, or basic cleanings. I'm not much of a jewelry person and could count the diamonds I own on one hand, so I really have had no need to go back since childhood. I inherited a unique diamond ring from my great grandma (circa 1910 or so) that I've always hoped would be an engagement ring someday. The metal is platinum and the thin band my from when GG had the stone set was bent and misshaped by the time I got it. I also prefer thicker bands on rings, so replacing and widening the band was a requirement for whoever was proposing to me. :) Not so free after all! My fiance' took the ring to multiple big name jewelers to get quote to replace the band, but they refused to do the work because of the age and nostalgic value of the ring. He finally ended up at First People's and was quoted about $150-200 more than the other quotes he had received. When he mentioned this, the salesperson at First People's got approval to drop the price to match right then and there. They did a great job on keeping the original setting and widening the band and had it ready for pick-up less than a week later. I don't wear any other rings to compare, so my fiance' just guessed on my ring size, but ended up being a size and a half off. I had to wear a ring spacer after our engagement just to keep the ring on my finger. First People's downsized the ring to the right size at no cost- even though they didn't sell us the ring! The woman (Kelsey?) we spoke to was really helpful with advise on getting the correct size... I wanted to play it safe and only go down a size just in case my fingers would swell in summer, but she convinced me to go with the right size and I'm so grateful! My finger adjusted to the new ring and this ended up the absolute perfect fit. ANOTHER way they've gone over and above- when I took my ring in for the band resizing I was in a rush when leaving. I quickly looked at the ring when they brought it out and stuck it back on my finger without a second thought. As I was driving back to work I noticed a dark spot in one of the surrounding settings. Turns out one of the tiny diamonds was missing. I freaked out, just about got in a car wreck turning around, and ran right back to the Jewelers. I was on hands and knees in the parking lot checking my floor boards, but found nothing. By the time I made it back in the store I was almost in tears. When I spoke with the saleslady she said they would replace the stone at no cost (wow!) but that it might take a week or so because they were pretty backed up. Kelsey overheard and stepped in and had it done within 20 mins!

So many affordable items @ First People's Jewelers!

I expected to receive a quality ring and good communication throughout the process. I wanted to work with people I could trust with a ring I would wear for the rest of my life. Based on what I was told, I expected to have my ring within about eight weeks. Instead, I repeatedly found myself reaching out for updates rather than receiving proactive communication. When I finally received the ring after months of delays, the color of the white gold was not what I expected and was later confirmed by multiple independent jewelers to be outside their expectations for a ring of that age. What should have been an exciting experience became a lengthy and frustrating process. Timeline: Aug 22 Discussed the design in person and sent inspiration photos. Sept 5 Received first sketch. Sept 10 Approved design and left my ring/stones for CAD measurements. Sept 26 1:13 texted for an update. At 3:39 received the CAD rendering and approved it. Oct 1 Received a text that the wax model was ready. Oct 2 Tried on and approved the wax model. Oct 21 Received a text, "Hi, I have the 3D model of your ring. Please swing by and take a look at it. As soon as you approve it we can order your ring." This was the same model I approved on October 2. I pointed this out, I was told, "I was on vacation last week. I forgot. But yes, we ordered your ring on the 2nd." Nov 11 Called for an update. (9 weeks after design approval.) Nov 25 Called again. I was told the ring was delayed in customs. This was the first time I learned it was being made overseas. Dec 10 Emailed requesting the manufacturer, production location, and tracking information. Annette called but did not provide that information, instead citing customs and the government shutdown. (14 weeks after approval.) Dec 12 Received some additional information but still not the manufacturer or tracking details I requested. I was also told the Oct. 21 text meant the ring was already in production, despite asking me to approve a model I had already approved weeks earlier. Jan 5 Emailed again requesting an estimated completion date plus location and customs information. Jan 7 Received a call and email that the ring was ready. Jan 8 Picked up the ring. (18 weeks after approval.) March Noticed the white gold had become much more yellow than expected after only a few months. April Two independent jewelers confirmed the color was not what they would expect. May 5 Returned to the store. Ashley agreed the color was not expected and offered complimentary polishing and rhodium plating, estimating one day. May 9 Called for an update. At 11:04 I was told another project had delayed mine. At 1:32 I was called that it was ready, but I couldn't arrive before closing. May 11 Picked it up and immediately noticed it still wasn't as white as expected. Ashley and another employee agreed. Photos were sent to the maker. I was told they could remake the ring or replace the shank in-house. June 4 Called for an update. I was told there was no response from the manufacturer and that Annette would replace the shank in-house and "take the loss." June 15 Visited Nasr Brothers for an unrelated reason. Peter immediately commented that the color was not what he would expect for a recently rhodium-plated ring. We had it remade in platinum for about the same cost. I was quoted three weeks; it was finished in 17 days and exceeded my expectations in craftsmanship and appearance.

Ultimately though we DID NOT have the same experience that our family member did, I guess because we were unhappy with their work product and we had to go back and attempt to take advantage of post-sale service. If you are concerned about your jewelry store standing behind their work, you really should go somewhere else. We went in to have a tension ring re-sized, which they claimed they could do. We paid over $1000 for the resizing, and within 3 months the stone JUST FELL OUT!! Luckily after an hour or so on our hands and knees we found the diamond. We took it back for them fix it, which they did, for another charge of several hundred dollars. Guess what, almost immediately the stone became loose again. I gave them one more chance and to their credit they did not charge for the 3rd try. But within weeks the stone actually FELL OUT again (see picture). I went back in again, frustrated as you can imagine but calm, and they said they would stand behind their work BUT their work WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE DIAMOND EVEN IF their work caused the stone to fall out and lost forever! What kind of comfort is that? Are they afraid of their own work product resulting in lost stones apparently? But I digress, Gem now claims that the ring style is the real issue, not their work! They say that tension settings are an inherently unreliable mount. Really? I don't think so because my wife had this same tension ring for over 10 years and experienced absolutely no problems at all. I kept telling them but to no avail, it's not their fault. In the end, I simple asked for my money back because they didn't do what we paid them to do! But, you guessed it, they would not accommodate at all, and had the audacity to tell me to go somewhere else and still kept my money So that is my recommendation to you, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! There are dozens of reputable jewelry dealers in the Dallas area that can sell a ring, but only the better establishments stand behind their work, and Gem is NOT one of those retailers.
