I went to this joint after New Year's 2010 by a friend that lives in nearby Lawndale. I grew up in Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley a few miles from the In-N-Out on Beach Blvd. I wish I knew about Five Guys sooner! Don't get me wrong, I'm a proud Californian which apparently started In-N-Out, but Five Brother's kicked it's butt!!! Very decent price. And the meat was so juicy and tasty. I also love the customization selection. The fries were delicious. And the all you can eat peanuts are free! What more could you ask for!? Unfortunately, I go to school in the Central Coast, but be sure that on my next visit to So Cal I will definitely make a pit stop here! read more

I went to Five Guys restaurant on Saturday and feel like it is an average burger joint. The wait was literally 6 minutes, which was shorter than I had expected, and the employee to guest ratio was good. My order came out to be around $15, that was a bacon cheeseburger, cajun fries, and a drink. The cajun fries were not extra, which is great because if it was I wouldve been pissed because they were just OK. The music was mostly '60's and '70's, and the place was not packed but certainly not slow. I feel like this place would have benefitted greatly with a manager's presence to greet the guests and make them feel like the whole operation was being overseen. In conclusion, it was a n average burger shop and you will definitely leave with a full stomach; especially since they are very generous in the fry department. read more

This isn't IN and OUT like people allude to in some of the earlier Yelp reviews. This is its own thing. And, a good thing - it is. So, don't be upset because they don't have milkshakes like In and Out. This is 5GB&F. I got a burger which was very juicy and delicious. I liked it because I could get a smaller burger that was under $5 and I could still get anything on it. I agree that the fries are a little pricey. However, I would recommend the Cajun fries. They may be a little overseasoned but they add a zest to the meal that you just don't get with the plain jane fries. Would I go here everyday? No, but I don't eat burgers every day and they don't have any down in San Diego. However, the next time I crave a burger and want something fast, 5 Guys is where I'll head. I would recommend this place. So, yay, I'm a fan! PS. 2 things I forgot to add is that this is a great place to order from when you need to pick up a lot of orders at once because you don't have to open up each burger to see who it belongs to. They number the burgers for you on the outside wrapper and it matches your receipt. Sometimes, it's just the little things that make the difference. Okay... normally i have really positive reviews... I'm not sure if its just me today... but a few classmates and I went to carson mall to get some work done. A few of us wen to five guys to get some burgers and bring it back to the area where we were sitting in the foodcourt. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, because my classmates all recommended that I get it, I also ordered fries and a drink. All was good, when I went to eat my burger I suspected that the bacon was missing, and I was going to dismiss it but my classmates suggested I go back and let them know so they can make me another burger or add it in bc I paid extra for it. So I walked back to five guys and told the lady that there was bacon missing in my burger. NO apology or any sincere way of saying oh sorry we messed up... she said oh we'll give you bacon for your burger... I was a little confused and ask well can you put it in the burger for me... she replies... "oh no we're not allowed to take back any burgers"... then hands me some half wrapped bacon in foil.... wow... nice. At that point I didn't feel like eating my burger anymore after the hassle of coming back to let them know my order was wrong. The food was alright, but I would rather go to In n OUt, they are friendlier and more accurate... yikes.... at least it was worth a shot. SO Unless you wanna to build your own burger (putting lettuce, tomatoes and etc in your burger yourself)... I would not recommend this place read more

I did not like the food here and it was not well put together. I came here with pretty normal expectations. I ordered a little cheeseburger with light amount of mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions. I also ordered a regular drink and regular little fries. The first thing that I saw and didn't like was the coke freestyle machine. This is something I know many people like and that's ok but I very much dislike those machines because to me they taste like every soda in the machine no matter what I do. I decided to drink water eh no big deal. Once I received my order, my fries were cold ok maybe I just picked up my order late or something. So I get the burger out of the bag and unwrap it from the crude tinfoil packaging, The burger is really squished, from all sides and it's also not very warm. The bread was soggy and not toasted, there were about three tiny squares of lettuce and they were covered in goops of mayo. The grilled onions were on the bottom bun and they were added in excess. The meat patty was unshapely and burned in some places and undercooked in others. It was bland as well as the unseasoned fries. I would understand the way the burger was made if the restaurant had been busy but it was a very low number of customers, it was practically empty so I don't understand why it was so messy. thought the food was terrible and overpriced for the amount of grossness the food had. read more

They are very close to the style of In N Out. Their burgers are smaller but thicker, and have more topping choices. I like their fries better than In N Out, though it is very close. They also have cajun fries. As for food choice they have a much bigger variety than In N Out with burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and two types of fries. They also list the calories of everything, which is cool. Kudos for fast service as well. However, cheap eats? No. I paid $12.28 for burger, fries, and coke at Five Guys. I can get the exact same meal that tastes almost identical at In N Out Burger for $5.97. read more

Solid 3.5 This is not In n Out or anything like it, so people should first stop trying to compare the two. This is the best 5 Guys location I've tried out of a few. Their fries seem to always be hotter and crispier. I like simple homestyle burgers, and I think that's what this place does well. The sesame buns are really soft which is my favorite part. I think the bun makes or breaks a burger and nothing is worse than a dry and crumbly bun. Theirs is soft and squishes under your fingertips (in a good way -it's possible). The cheese melts just enough over the meat. You can pick from a huge list of toppings, but I like mine simple with just lettuce, ketchup and either pickles or relish. The little cheeseburger is a single burger and the regular burger is actually a double burger. The regular sized fries are served in a cup, can be regular or cajun, and are huge, so sharing is more than plenty. They also give you free peanuts while you wait. Nice establishment. Burger that's what they boast about. I'm loving the idea of putting on your own toppings. I got the bacon cheeseburger with everything on it. To be honest it was an average burger. I like the fact that i can't taste or smell the beef. I know it sounds weird, because I'm eating a beefy burger, so it should smell like beef, but those of you that know what I am talking about should know when a beef smells funny. The burger here has no nasty beef smell. It was fresh, and you get plenty of lettuce, tomato, and what not. However, you would have to order fries and drinks separately. I'm sorry guys I did not pay for it, so I have no clue how much it cost. I got fries regular and Cajun. Cajun meaning seasoning salt. It was good, and I am glad I tried it. I finally got around to trying this place out since it is right up the street from my house. I've heard good things and had to see for myself. I had a cheeseburger with grilled onions and the usual condiments. The burger was very good and you can taste the quality of the beef. The fries were okay, nothing really to brag about. This place seems a bit pricey compared to in n out , however it is still a really good burger. I will be eating here more often, but will think twice about getting the fries, i wasn't too impressed with those. I recently was in the area, and I had a craving for burgers that particular day. Since there wasn't an In-N-Out nearby, and I won't touch McDonald's with a ten-foot pole, I decided to grab lunch at Five Guys. First of all, it was lunch hour, and only one register was open. I found that unacceptable. It took almost ten minutes for me to wait in line to get to the register. The wait to get my food was reasonable, but while waiting, I needed to use the restroom. It was dirty (so I didn't use it), and I almost tripped on the bunched up mat outside of the restrooms. The fries were awesome and plentiful, and well worth the 2-plus bucks I paid for them. While I ordered a small, the guy manning the fry station filled the cup, and then gave me another large scoop inside the bag. The burger, however, was overpriced. It was small, and aside from the fresh toppings, the taste was just okay. Definitely not worth the 4-plus bucks I paid for it. Based on this experience, I don't have plans to return here in the near future... or if I do, it'll only be for fries! read more

There has been a lot of buzz about Five Guys now that they are adding more locations in southern california. People saying that they are better than In-N-Out. I'm a die hard In-N-Out fan but I went to Five guys with an open mind. First thing I noticed is that there's no line. There is always a line at In-N-Out. Can the food be that good if nobody wants it? Where are all the people running their mouths about how great Five Guys is? Next I noticed a lot of options for my burger. I like options so there's a plus. Once My husband and I ordered I noticed the insanely high prices. We each got a burger and shared a fry and a drink and our bill was about $20. At In-N-Out we usually get one drink two fries and two double doubles and it usually costs us about $10. So with all the hype and extra cost the foods gotta be great right? = / not so much. Besides my husbands burger completely falling apart after the first bite everything was okay. Just okay. Would I go back? I guess I go back if I was hungry and my options were limited or if I was with someone who hasn't tried Five Guys and they want me to go with them. It's been about 4 months since my first and only visit to Five Guys and I haven't had the urge to go back and I doubt I ever will. read more

I love 5 guys but this location shows that it's open when it is not. Had taste for a burger but found out this location was closed when I walked up. The sign showed "reopen soon" at knee level. My question is, how do you reopen a chain that has been established? It could be operational, but when dealing with food I think it is health related. I sat down to eat and threw my food away once I watched everyone scratching and digging and going back to the food without washing hands or getting new gloves. The main heavy cook has fondled so many of the women here he should be fired for sexual harassment. All the men are sagging and showing their underwear. THIS IS A FAMILY SPOT! Wow, I am a Californian like most of you all. I first had 5 guys on the east coast so my experience is different. I love the burgers and fries. I eat burgers and fries as much as anyone. 5 guys is coming to Fremont 15 minutes from where we live- so excited! Love in and out especially since they have bible scriptures on their paper products but 5 guys is better to me. I hope its as good as when I had it on east coast. I do know food taste different prepared in different locations. So that may be one of the reasons some californians can't get it or really appreciate it. read more

(Bacon Cheeseburger, All The Way, minus lettuce with extra-cheese) Ordered online, was in-n-out (pun intended) in less than 60 seconds. Now let me weigh in on the perpetual In-N-Out debate. First we will talk about fries. No, let's not. Not worth the discussion. Most people (at least in several western states) will tell you, In-N-Out fries are the best you will find in any restaurant, fast food or otherwise. Now for the burgers. It really does not make any sense to compare the two. They are two totally different styles of burgers, both great in their own unique way. The true test, and I know I am not alone on this, (again, for those of us in the west)...If I were on Death Row, about to meet my maker tomorrow. I am offered, as a last meal, one of the following; Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger-"All the Way" or In-N-Out Double Double Cheeseburger-"Animal Style" One of my last experiences in life would be enjoying that California born, truly unique and absolutely delicious, if I have been away from the West Coast more than a few hours gotta have, take out all of my out of state guest for...In-N-Out Double Double! Newly opened in El Segundo; been to them all over the country and grateful they've invaded LA. The fries are the best anywhere and plenty of them. Food is fresh everytime; free salted in shell peanuts. Hamburgers are better than In and Out; Fatburger and the Counter; cost is more than McDonalds and Carl's and worth in. Probably more of a 3.5 stars. I had heard the rave for awhile now and finally decided to stop and grab a burger. I grew up loving In N out so I had to see if 5 guys measured up. First off the things I liked: BACON!!! Love this option and few more that five guys offer that In-N-out does not!! I also enjoyed the cajun fries. I had the double burger and it was a bit larger then the double double and it was tasty. Its almost twice the price of In-N-Out and there are no shakes which was a bummer!! They also have free peanuts while you wait which was cool but added nothing to the burger experience. Overall a pretty good burger with a few additonal options however no shake and twice the price makes me lean towards In-n-out or the Habit if I want a great charbroil style burger!! read more
