The burgers are pretty good, but I don't see the comparison b/w Five Guys and In N' Out, b/c In N' Out is the booooooomb!!!!!! In all reality, this is a great burger. I'm not sure where or why the comparison to gourmet burgers occurred. Also, the comparisons between Five Guys and other burger restaurants seem completely unwarranted. In my book, comparing one restaurant's burger to another restaurant's burger is like comparing apples to oranges. You should probably judge and accept Five Guys for what is is--not what ___'s is or what ____ served. So, what does Five Guys offer and why is it great? Drinks -- love their huge selection. Fries -- LOVE. Burger -- Soggy for me. Funny that a friend of mine has the opposite opinions of fries and burgers from me -- he loves their burgers, but not crazy about fries. One of the best "fast food" burgers around. I got a bacon cheeseburger and I was very impressed. The burger had high quality meat, was cooked just about perfectly, and had a nice meat to cheese ratio. The bacon was also perfectly crispy, and the tomatoes, lettuce and onions were surprisingly un-greasy which balanced out the burger and cheese nicely. I like their fresh burgers and fresh cut fries (reminds me of the burgers at In N Out in CA) but the fries tend to be soggy so I always have to ask for well done. The seasoned fries are ok because they add more flavor to sort of regular fries. I like how fast they are and I enjoy coming here every so often. read more

A friend of mine had never had a Five Guys burger, so after helping him move we were starving. Fortunately, this location is open until 1AM on Saturday nights, and I told him he was in for a treat. WRONG... WRONG. The dude got our order wrong, refused to remake it (he just handed us the ingredients we ordered but they forgot to put on--- WE HAD TO MAKE OUR OWN FOOD). During the fiasco, our burgers got cold (so they could match the fries we were served cold). There were no peanuts available, the place was a mess, and the loud, drunk crowd made the ambiance unbearable (I cannot discount the establishment for the crowd, though). I've had wonderful experiences at this location, but this one stuck out as deplorable. Would you believe Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin from Spider-Man fame told me about Five Guys? It's true. Well not totally true, I first saw it once while walking to the Graham Crackers comic shop in Lincoln Park last year. The thing that made me interested though, was reading an issue of Dark Avengers Norman Osborn told his assistant to go get some Five Guys burgers for him and The Sentry. That Brian Michael Bendis, such a clever writer. I just moved to the Lincoln Park area of Chicago not even a week ago and on the first night here we did some driving and walking around the area and I kept seeing it, needless to say, my interest was piqued. I passed it one more time today to go get my weekly comics (Wednesdays are new comic day) and I didn't even think about until I got home. I was hungry and thought to myself, "Well gosh darn it, I want to try Five Guys!" When I got there there it wasn't busy so I got my order in right away with about a 5 minute wait for them to make it, which really isn't bad since they actually make the burgers and fries right then and there. After I sat down to eat, a line really started to grow so I was lucky to get in there when I did. I didn't know what to expect when I unwrapped the foil for my burger but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was the classic hand formed style of burger I remember eating when I was a kid at places in Kenosha, Wi, like Andy's Drive-In and Big Star, which also happens to be my favorite type of burger (sorry Kuma's!) I was also excited to see that a regular size cheeseburger includes 2 patties, extra greasy, nice touch. The only thing I was sad about was that I didn't ask for mushrooms and they still put them on my burger, but I was a trooper and just picked the off, I really don't mind since I've been picking them out of my food for the better part of 17 years (dang, Mom). The fries on the other hand weren't as amazing as I kept hearing. I like to judge fries on whether or not they can be eaten with ketchup or not, if you don't need ketchup, they are awesome. I don't like my fries too dry and these were a little dry but still good with ketchup. They were nice and thick, too. That's always a plus. All in all the it was very delicious and I definitely plan on going again, next time with friends. It seems like a good place to go and just eat and hang out with some peeps for a while. read more

I have been to your establishment a few times and also introduced others. Frankly your food is quite expensive and your burgers aren't even as good as Mc'Donalds. Today I stopped by to use your washroom. I was stunned to find it locked with a note saying the password is on your receipt, in other words, CUSTOMERS ONLY! When I asked if I could use the washroom your employees told me NO, even though I made it clear it was urgent they still said NO! I told them they had just lost a Customer and their response was thanks for dropping in, have a nice day. We are done doing business. So this is supposed to be the new In and Out claimed by some. Those people are fools, 5 guys is good but no were near as good as in and out. The burgers are great, but i can go to a lot of places for a decent burger. They are known for there fries. I ask why? Why are they known for such soggy luck warm fries? The fries seem to just be sitting around under the heat lamp were at the very least they should be re fried before giving them back. Stacks and stacks of fries everywhere making you think you have hit the jack pot in delicious fries. Than you get them and there well they have potential but nothing to talk about they just leave you very underwhelmed cuz you can tell they should be good but they just arn't. I'm not as sold as everyone else is on this popular chain. I'm not much for burger joints that have big bags of potatoes interspersing tables and chairs, but the burgers are decent, with good flavor. However, they do lack some unspeakable quality that could bring it up to a higher level. Maybe it's how I ordered it "animal style" with everything on it - too much for the burger to handle. I've had some decent burgers in the city, but this place is the best by far! The regular fries are sharing size and if you want a little extra kick, get the cajun fries and sprinkle some malt vinegar on 'em. Went today to see what all this fuss is about. The decor is just quotes from various articles they have been mentioned in. This made me have high hopes for this burger. I wasn't expecting to pay $11 for a cheeseburger, fries, and a coke. Especially when the quotes on the wall say best burger for $5 bucks. The burger was nothing more then a burger. Meat quality was a notch or two above any fast food chain. The bun was what you get from a cheeseburger off the dollar menu. The frys were frys. Nothing about this meal stood out except the $11 bucks it costed. There are much better places to get a better burger for this price, fries included. I had high hopes for 5 guys. I had heard a lot of good things. In the end they were just slightly above average. I had the cheese burger which was massive and pretty good. 1-10 I would give it a 6.5. I had that with the cajun fries. 1-10 I give it a 5. Like I said, the burger was pretty good. But not amazing or anything like that. Just a solid burger. The fries however were soggy, always a turn off for me. The flavor was good. I like the unique flavor that the peanut oil brings. But soggy knocks the score down big time. Isn't the goal of a great french fry to be crispy? My wife liked them even less. There is not one of these places super close to me and I guess that doesn't matter to since I will not rush back here. Worst $7.18 I ever spent! I know you're supposed to go for the burger here, but I had a yen for a hot dog. I asked for "Chicago Style" - clerk says, "the works", I say, "yes" - because when I want Chicago Style, I want the works and that includes Sport peppers. After waiting over 10 mins (for a hot dog and fries?!) I rec'd a split, overcooked, dried out hot dog dressed in: catsup (!), mustard, mayonnaise (!), lettuce (!), tomato, onions and mushrooms (!). it was the WORST thing I ever ate. (I could only stomach 1/3 of it). the fries, while a very generous portion, were NOT the best fries. They were bland. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Five Guys is usually great all over the place, but this one in particular was sub-par for me. All three employees being overtly rude to customers, laughing and pointing at them from across the restaurant. Spending time talking instead of working or preparing food. Five Guys is my favorite burger place. Nobody can beat them. Great burgers and fries and their hot dogs are't bad either.

I have heard many different opinions about Five Guys, and so far, I have not agreed with any of them. Some people love everything, some people love the fries, but hate the burgers, and some people just don't like it. I do not agree with any of these opinions. Five Guys is a great restaurant for burger lovers. They are full of flavor, and you can add basically any topping you could possibly want for no extra cost. They are well made, and you won't find a better tasting burger unless you look really hard. Of course, the main issue most people have with Five Guys is the pricing. Are the prices absurd? In a word, yes. A "little burger" (which is basically a normal burger), a regular drink, and regular fry adds up to around eight bucks. This is a HUGE drawback. I would eat here so much more if they lowered their prices. However, my main issue with Five Guys is the fries. Now, I have heard and read nothing but good things about the fries. Am I crazy, or are they just not that good? To me, they seem dry and tasteless, and they make me really, really thirsty. Also regular is the smallest size, which is ridiculous. A regular fry will basically overflow your bag. It is A LOT of fries. No one needs that many, especially (if you are like me) if they are just not that good. For the most part, though, I have enjoyed my experiences eating at Five Guys. After all, it is a BURGER joint. If you love burgers, have five bucks to spare, and can do without fries or a drink, I would definitely recommend it. read more
