I was very underwhelmed by Five Guys, especially as I had heard it was the east coast's answer to In n Out. Let me tell you, this burger pales in comparison, plus it's more expensive. I got a regular burger (which the server did warn me was a double patty, which I am glad it was because I was hungry) "all the way." Things I liked: mushrooms, grilled onions. It's cool and a bit nicer to get these on your burger, makes it feel less fast food-y. The patty itself was pretty good. The cheese was unremarkable. Thing I didn't like: the bun. It had a not-quite-right texture and taste to it, almost too dense and sweet. I paid more than I would like for the burger, only for it to be drowned out by this weird bun. I got the Cajun style fries which were good; I think I like things REALLY seasoned though so that may be why. I am impressed that you can get a hot dog or veggie burger here, though frankly, with these prices, I'm not sure I'd ever go back. It's just barely better than Wendy's at twice the price. Typical franchise for this chain. Clean (except maybe peanut shells on the floor) and bright. I like the burgers, nothing special, but decent. Usually I get the double dressed (lots of options here). I got a "little cheeseburger" little because it had one patty instead of two. I had it dressed mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle. Nothing fancy, but I could not even taste the burger! I ate my first 5 Guys burger in Columbia SC several years ago during a visit to Daughter #1 who was in college at USC. Five guys is the rage, Dad. We have to go. So go we did. It was the rage for a reason. I really loved the burgers, the peanuts, and the vibe which was pretty cool for a fast food place. I googled 5 guys when I returned home and loved the story of a Dad and his 4 sons opening up a burger place. And the rest is history. So I was super excited when I read that 5 Guys was coming to NOLA. An educated guess is they were in tune with the recent NOLA burger craze and decided to cash in. So D #1, who has since returned to her beloved New Orleans, and I headed to the concreteness that is Clearview Pkwy for a nostalgia burger. They did a good job of getting the restaurant to have the same feel as the ones in SC. It was packed at lunchtime on a Tuesday, but the bustle didn't bother me for some reason. I consider the burgers to be the best of the fast food class, pretty close in flavor and texture to Camellia Grill. The fries can stand up to some of the best in NOLA no doubt. One disappointment was the amount of fries per order. In SC I remember ordering a medium fry and getting enough for a family of 4. These orders are tiny and rather pricey. Overall cost is more than your typical fast food jernt but well worth the extra 3 bucks or so for a lunch for two. read more

I want to like Five Guys more than I do. I want to give it a higher rating. The burgers are quite tasty but there are some serious flaws: * Too expensive. Seriously. A small burger and small fries shouldn't cost me $8 * Speaking of the fries, they are salty. Very salty. Almost too salty to be edible. But ever for those flaws there's still a lot of good there. They have tons of toppings, all of which are free. And they have roasted peanuts to snack on while you wait for your burger to be cooked, so avoid this place if you have a peanut allergy. May be overrated? Both of my kids are allergic to peanuts and the fries are Cooked in 100% peanut oil. In addition, they really should stop making the veggie sandwich, it's gross without any flavor. I have eaten at five guys in other cities, however when it opened in Elmwood I was not in a hurry to stand in line for food I only LIKE.This five guys made me hate burgers for a day. Three things I love about this place: the decor, free peanuts and people watching. I know that In-N-Out burger restaurants are based in California, I only wish a franchise would have opened in Elmwood instead of five guys. I love Five Guys. The burgers are outstanding and the fries are good. People will disagree but I think this burger is probably the best in the NOLA area for the price. It can get a bit pricey though but if you are there with someone you can save some coin. You only need to order the smallest fry and share. They dump so many extra fries in that wonderfully greasy bag that sharing is truly caring. Right now in Harahan it gets REALLY busy. Hopefully when the Mid City location opens it will slow down a bit! Get over there and check it out. Been to this 5 guys 5 tines now. Consistently good. For those who can't tell the difference between Wendy's and 5 guys, well, you'll NEVER know the difference. IMHO, only GB's has better ground beef in New Orleans...and their burger costs considerably more. This is a burger joint by intent. Not incredible food, but good quality all around. Good buns, good fries (why bother with spiced up Cajun fries?), good meat, good iced tea, good fixins. The free peanuts are never stale. How many places can make THAT boast? Overall, very satisfying when in a hamburger mood. It's not gourmet, but it's consistently solid. That can only happen in a well managed restaurant. When considered as a fast food restaurant five guys is a standout. Compared to some of the other local places it is definitely a solid meal, but not too much better than Bud's Broiler. I must say I have tried out three different locations and have had three different experiences. Thankfully this location doesn't undercook their fries. This has been the biggest issue in my experiences with some of the other locations. I was served a cheeseburger rather than the hamburger that I ordered, but the staff was quick to correct the mistake and I ended up with a burger to eat later at no charge. If there weren't as many options for toppings I would have given the meat two stars since they cook all the burgers well done, just go ahead and give me a piece of jerky for 2 dollars and I could dip it in some ketchup instead of paying $6 for a dry burger. Other places that I've ordered a burger without the bun they at least serve the patty between lettuce leaves. Not a big deal. The burger was good. Very well run establishment with great burgers and fries! The manager here is very hard working and takes pride in his work and does a fantastic job. If he's not working at the grill or working the registers with a smile, he takes time to walk around and ask the customers how their food is tasting and get feedback from them to make sure their dining experience is great. While it does get busy at times in here they always seem to get the food cooked pretty fast and the quality of the food is much higher than the other larger chain restaurants. The burgers are cooked well done (which is great) and you must specify if you want the small or regular. Small is a single 1/4 burger, and regular is the double (two patties). I have been waiting for this place to open for what seems like forever. I work in the area and tried them recently. In general, this is a good burger. It is not a great burger, but definitely a step up from typical fast food. The "regular" burger is two 1/4 lb patties and is huge. The "little" (one patty) burger is really enough unless you have a huge appetite. The large fries were enough to feed all three people in my party. The things that I really like are that the burgers and fries are made fresh, not frozen and that all the toppings are included in the price of the burger. What I don't care for is that there isn't a combo meal and that they do not serve onion rings. I understand the philosophy of keeping the menu small so that you can control the food quality, but really how hard would it be to have onion rings on the menu? The atmosphere is kind of bland and the decor is nonexistent except for the 50 or so bags of peanuts lining the seating area. I realize this just a burger joint, but come on Five Guys...really??? Also, the noise level is ridiculous so don't plan on having a meaningful conversation with anyone in your party. Also, if you go at peak lunch hours, be prepared to wait because the line is usually to the door. At least they give you free peanuts to eat while you wait. read more

The burger is decent. It could use a little more seasoning. The flavor of the cheese gets lost so I always order extra cheese. This place is clean even though it is very busy, and the quality of the service is on point. Even the restrooms are clean. You get to help yourself to free peanuts which the kids enjoy. And you can refill your drink as often as you like so make sure to order the smaller size if you will be eating in. They load you up on the fries which are cut from potatoes there and not frozen. The prices are a little steep. And be careful because if you order a burger you will get a double burger, look at the menu make sure you are ordering the correct one!
