Mustard, relish, onion

Rarely does a chain become a go to for me. Five Guys is cheeseburger heaven. Always delicious and cooked to perfection. This location is always spotless. Every employee I've encountered here has been a delight. I'll definitely be back, if not for the free peanuts the fries are good enough to go out of your way.

Having first tried Five Guys in NYC & DC, I knew what to expect. Bigger than it looks from the outside, the interior is bright and clean, catering to it's 50s-esque appeal, with oldies music being piped in. If you've never been, this is pretty much what all Five Guys I've ever been to look like. They also have big boxes of peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food to cook. Since it's cooked when you order, it's not the fastest place, so peanuts are good if you're hungry & can't wait. For "fast" food, it's definitely toward the top with fresh tasting burgers. I like the fries, although next time I probably ask for them well done since I prefer crispier fries. (I checked; they're willing to do so - yay!) The difference between regular & little is 2 patties (reg) or 1 patty (little). Also, they have malt vinegar by the condiment station. Mm salt & vinegar on fries. The food is always served "to go" - meaning there are no trays and plates and such. Fries come in an overflowing styrofoam cup which will create a nice grease pattern on the brown paper bag your food is in. If you eat in, do what I do and snag one of the paper boats inside the peanut box & dump your fries into there. 1 paper boat holds 1 order regular fries pretty perfectly. Also makes it easier to sprinkle the malt vinegar on the fries. Yum. Overall, the food & experience are same as I remember from the Five Guys I had in NYC/DC, and it's just a standard fast food joint. But what pushed them from a regular 3-star fast food joint to 4? Fountain Cherry Coke. I'm generally a Pepsi person but Cherry Coke is delicious. Not often found at most places, this upped the stars from 3 to 4. Yes, I'm that easily swayed. In the end, this place is a bit expensive for burgers & fries (at least $10 for burger+fries+drink) but it's the place if you want a good burger & not just a fast meal. (And Cherry Coke!)

TIP: They put extra fries in the bag, so order one size smaller than you want with fries, and you'll end up with the next size up.

This is the way a burger joint should be run! I'm not talking about the fact they have juicy burgers, fresh buns, lots of toppings, more soda choices than you can imagine, tasty fries and peanuts to shell and eat while you wait for your order. No I'm talking about how they treat their customers. We were craving a burger last night and had to do some other errands in the Randhurst area so we stopped in to 5 guys. We ordered two burgers, fries and drinks and discovered somewhere during the meal one of the burgers was missing mushrooms and onions. Because it wasn't the end of the world, we finished. But before I left I let them know. Not in a negative way but in a constructive way so if their 'quality checks' system was broken, they could find it and fix it. The crew member I talked to offered to fix things, but I said we'd already finished. When I got home I was thinking maybe the manager was not aware of the problem with getting the order correct so I filled out the survey advertised on their receipt. Again, my intent is to help businesses be better so I wasn't ripping on the place. I specifically said that the meal was good. The minor glitch didn't degrade my experience there and I will be back again. I gave my contact information but said, there is no need to call me. I'm just giving you a heads up on what happened. Well today I get a call from Kyle, manager at the store to apologize for the mistake! I told him that wasn't necessary and that I was just trying to help him with some 'real time' feedback so if one of their systems was broken, he'd be able to identify the problem and fix it. He said he totally understood and thanked me. THIS IS THE WAY A BURGER JOINT (or any joint) SHOULD BE RUN! TIP: They put an extra helping of fries in the bag with the meal, so if you want the medium size fries, order the small. Large? order the medium.

The individual at the counter was very friendly and gave me recommendations after telling him it was my first time. I love buffalo wings, and he recommended the smash burger. Food wise, it's not bad, but it's not great. I personally prefer my wings to have the crispy skin exterior where theirs is made with what seems to just be the chicken+sauce. Reviewing a spot like this is interesting since for me personally I take into account how much I paid for the meal compared to how good it is. For this burger and 6 wings, the total came out to be $24.68. If this meal somehow could be closer to something like $15-$20, I'd probably give it four stars and return some day. I get it's a difficult in this economy, but I've had better for cheaper.

We ordered some drinks (no one got alcohol) and some appetizers. We got the Low Carb Yuka Fries and while that is not my bag, they were good. I was pleasantly surprised. We also had the roasted red pepper spread, which everyone enjoyed. Two of us ordered the Ultimate Steak Sandwich. I opted to removed the caramelized onions. The other person let them on. I also removed the garlic herb sauce but replaced it with a chimichurri sauce. That really kicked it up a notch and was good for dipping the fries in. They're fresh cut fries, so they were good on their own, but the chimichurri again kicked it up a notch. We also ordered the chicken bowl, the avocado salad, and the Greek style lamb chops. We all loved our food and were too full for dessert. It's a quaint little place, cozy for intimate conversation or a night out with family and friends. I think the night was made a little more fun when a couple came in and was seated at a counter height table and were making out all night. It was a lot and gratuitous. The table next to them were visibly uncomfortable and that made it all the more enjoyable to witness. Dinner and a show. Who knew?

Mount Prospect Public House - Brat (no sauerkraut) sauerkraut is for monsters

Mount Prospect Public House

There are certain Wednesday nights when the universe cracks open just enough to remind you that God…read morehas a twisted sense of humor. This was one of them. I walked into Public House expecting beer and bar food. Instead, I encountered Amanda. Ladies and gentlemen, we need to discuss the P.O.A. Index, an entirely unscientific scale developed after decades of rigorous field research conducted in bars, restaurants, airports, and regrettable weddings. Amanda is an 11-and-a-half out of 10. This is statistically impossible. She has one of those smiles that causes otherwise intelligent men to momentarily forget their own last name. A smile so radiant it could probably qualify as renewable energy. Unfortunately... she failed the Ring Check. Her left hand glimmered like the cruel punchline to an otherwise flawless joke. I briefly considered challenging her fiancé to trial by combat. Pistols at dawn. Sabers. Bare-knuckle boxing. Maybe a chili cook-off. Whatever the law allows these days. I would've won... and history remembers the brave. Now, on to Lauren. Lauren is the bartender. Lauren also committed the unforgivable crime of not swiping right on me on Facebook Dating. I wish her well, but I hope she knows she has created a permanent emotional scar that may never heal. Every time she poured a beer, I could hear Celine Dion playing faintly in the distance. My heart remains broken. The food arrived before I could spiral completely into despair. The onion rings were... objectively terrible. Hard enough to qualify as building materials. If Home Depot started selling battered masonry, these would be aisle seven. And yet... We could not stop eating them. Every ring was another terrible decision. "This one's awful." Crunch. "God, these are terrible." Crunch. "I think they're getting worse." Crunch. I've seen this same behavioral pattern in casinos. The Maxwell Street Polish was magnificent. Greasy. Covered in grilled onions. Exactly the sort of sandwich that reminds you Chicago understands things the rest of the country never will. The Chicago-style hot dog? Exactly what a Chicago dog should be. No unnecessary innovation. No avocado aioli. No artisanal truffle ketchup invented by a man named Brayden. Just an honest Chicago dog doing honest Chicago dog things. The pulled pork sliders were solid, disappearing quickly enough that nobody bothered pretending to be polite. Then came the brat... on the menu, the main topping was listed as sauerkraut. F&$@ that! Absolutely insulting. Keep your fermented cabbage and your Wisconsin propaganda. Give me onions, peppers, mustard, and enough cholesterol to make my physician visibly uncomfortable. Amanda smiled with the effortless confidence of someone who had no idea she was quietly dismantling civilization. I watched one man forget his wife's birthday, another walk into the hostess stand, and a third begin Googling engagement ring financing before she'd even asked if he wanted another Coors Light. Professional. Friendly. Catastrophically attractive. Seven stars... out of five. Lauren still owes me emotional damages. Amanda deserves hazard pay. The onion rings should probably be classified as geological formations. And I'd return tomorrow without hesitation.

Good for fun with a focus on value, Mount Prospect Public house serves a fairly standard food menu…read moreof appetizers, wings, hot dogs, salads, and sandwiches at a very reasonable price with plenty of specials available. Drink prices are also priced fairly low, even without specials though you can enjoy an evening for less than 20 a person if you order the daily specials. I went here for trivia night and the dining room was fairly spacious and well setup for this. The crowd was lively and service was friendly though not extremely fast. The food was alright for me -- the BBQ pulled pork sliders being my favorite with slightly toasted buns and a fairly sweet sauce. The chicago style hot dog looked good, but was too pickle heavy for me and a bit sloppy to eat. The maxwell street polish was quite flavorful and the grilled onion flavor came out well. The brat was alright as well but there wasn't much that was too memorable about it. The fries were alright for me, but the onion rings were a bit overcooked and too thin for me. Overall, the food is alright but the bar setup and value prices make this a good spot to spend an fun evening with friends. Like everywhere else in this area of Mount Prospect, you may have to park a bit further away from your restaurant and walk if you're going around dinner time.
