Have been back a couple times since my first review and, happy to report, that I just caught them on a bad day. Very good fast food burger & fries. I'd still take nearby Burger Joint or Island Burger over it but this place works if you're in a hurry - whether this one or their other locations. read more

There is no menu, its burger, fries or hot dogs. Pick your toppings. A burger is a double burger. Save your arteries get a junior burger and small fries. I wouldn't choose this place for diner, unless I had a listing of eateries and a blindfold, and it turned out I picked that eatery by chance. Meh. It's punishment for your body. read more

Wasn't as good as I remembered the first time I had it in VA. I'll have to try a different location. I do like that no extra charge for toppings like mushrooms and grilled onions. Also forgot about the peanuts while you wait. read more

Alright, so 3 stars on this one for several reasons. First off, the lay-out of this location is not that great. The tables are crammed against one side of the restaurant, and the place was not super clean. The music was waaaaay too loud, and with the guy yelling out the order numbers, it's not the most pleasant place to eat. Better to take out. The burgers are amazing, though. A small burger was the perfect size for my not-huge appetite that day. The meat was nicely done and tasted fresh, not greasy or too salty. The fries are ok, they're potatoes with the skin on, cut up and thrown in a paper bag. I felt bad wasting so many fries, the portion is really huge. Share a bag with your buddy, you'll feel less guilty that way. People allergic to peanuts should steer clear, they serve them in barrels while you're waiting in line. read more

We were very skeptical about these burgers when we learned that they were made "well done" only. But it was a perfectly fine burger, although not much better than average. I understand going to Five Guys if your other options are fast food joints, but I don't entirely understand going to this Five Guys when the far superior Burger Joint is just a few blocks away in NYC and at around the same price. read more

I'm not from Cali, but I am a huge huge fan of in&0ut and hardy burgers in general. I always heard the debate of in&out to five guys, and finally tired the five guys burger 'all the way' 2 weeks ago. honestly it was good. I felt the heart tighten, and felt like I was gonna go into cardiac arrest...good feeling while eating. But that was it. still feel in&out is more flavorful. maybe it's also the fact that in&out is not tangible in NYC. read more

Mediocre burgers. I am partial to the juicy goodness that is Shake Shack. Five guys burgers doesn't even compare. The bun is flat and flavorless, like the cheapo store bought ones. The burger itself could have been made in any deli or bodega. The standout, however, are the fries. Generously cut and salted, they beat Shake Shack fries by a mile. Will probably not come back as there are too many options in the city to settle for a mediocre burger. read more

Finally went to Five Guys 2 days ago after passing it over for Menchanko Tei next door for most meals in the area. We wanted a quick bite so we split a cheeseburger and regular fries. The burger had 2 beef patties with cheese on a soft toasted bun. Once the burger is wrapped, the bun was soft and a bit mushy. We chose lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and fresh onions on our sandwich with a side of BBQ sauce. Everything was fresh, portion was on the large side for one person but perfect as a snack for two. The fries were very good having just came out of the fryer, some were crispy, some were softer (I prefer it this way). Overall, it was a good burger but not necessarily one I would crave for next time. read more

Five Guys is a burger place that started down in the D.C. area and I went there every now and then before I moved to New York. I was excited to see that they're now spreading up to the city. A few weeks ago Five Guys opened in midtown, a few blocks from my office. The day it opened, the line was out the door with an hour and a half wait! Now, fortunately things have calmed down a bit and when I went, the wait was a more reasonable 5-10 minutes. Five guys isn't gourmet, but they make one of the best burgers I've ever had. Compared to so many other burgers, from McDonalds to any other pub or the frozen patties I often have off the grill at barbecues, Five Guys tops them all. The burgers (made with two hand-formed patties) are juicy and flavorful, and the free toppings are great too. I do wish there was a little more grill char taste, but really the burgers are just great. I like to let the burger sit for a few minutes after I get it to allow all the flavors to combine. In those few minutes, I simply enjoy the great fries Five Guys makes from fresh potatoes. They're more like boardwalk fries, a little crispy, but also a little soggy, with the skin sill on. The fries are served in a foam cup but really that serves little purpose because they add probably double that amount of fries to the brown paper bag everything comes served in. Simple and tasty, with malt vinegar, or ketchup. Plus, don't forget the barrels of peanuts set out for snacking while waiting in line. All in all it makes Five Guys a great place for a great burger. I'm glad its close to the office, but not so close that I'll be there every day for lunch! read more

This place is such a mess during lunch, and my last visit here took nearly 45 mins to get my order, but it's still worth it. The burgers are great, and the fries are perfect too. Finally went to Five Guys because I had a massive craving for a burger. The burgers are good, satisfied my craving but I would not say these are the best burgers. However, for a "fast food joint" joint they are pretty good. I wouldn't compare these to a Quality Meats burger or anything but far surpasses McDonald's and In and Out on the west coast. The fries however did actually taste like real potatoes which is very nice and a bit of a change. Also the quantity of food is very good. That is actually impressive. The burgers were a good size and the fries... well lets just say they literally scoop a second helping into the bag. So, when I want another greasy burger to satisfy my junk food craving this is def where I'll go. Other than that, not so much. read more

The three stars are for the fries... I was highly disappointed when I began my order. Let me back up a bit. My girlfriends and I were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat at a decent price. I yelped and found Five Guys! I heard good things about this place, but before we ventured there, I made sure there was something I could eat (vegetarian). Lo and behold I saw veggie sandwich! Okay, so we got there and I found out no veggie patties (somehow I missed that on the menu that day). Okay, no problem....then what kind of veggies did they have? Lettuce and tomato. Umm.... Let's say I was not pleased with the lack of veggies they had for this veggie burger. So I got the fries. It didn't make up for the fact that I wanted some type of veggie burger but it was good. Shake Shack is obviously delicious, but when I'm really hungry for a burger and don't want to wait in line for 30 mins or more, I'll head over to Five Guys. For value meals, this place is really closer to 5 stars. Pros -- A huge selection of toppings (A1 Sauce! Hot Sauce! Mushrooms!), free peanuts, free soda refills, non-surly employees. I've never had much of a problem getting a table, even when it's crowded. And obviously the burgers and fries are super tasty. Cons -- This is nitpicking but ... no shakes; one bathroom, which is usually occupied; due to the shape of the restaurant, when you're sitting at a table, you sometimes don't hear your number called. FYI for new customers -- a "Hamburger" or "Cheeseburger" is two patties. If you just want one patty, order the "Little Hamburger/Cheeseburger." read more

There is so much buzz around this place. I dont frankly understand it. They serve burgers and hot dogs. Ive eaten street food all over the world and never gotten sick. The place is dirty they dont even clean the tables and inside there is a strong smoke and it smells burnt oil, your clothes will smell after you leave. Their menu is simple its just burgers much simple than mcdonalds but you have to wait long time to get your food. And the coke is even tastes like sugar syrup. Five guys has amazing burgers. I love stopping in here for lunch. I like that Five Guys sticks to the basics and they know what they're good at. If your craving a juicy, tasty delicious burger five guys is the place to go. As far as the service, there have only been a few times when it has been a little slow getting my order but the staff is always really friendly and polite. The burgers are great. There's always a wait while they make them fresh with whatever topping(s) you'd reasonably want from a fast-food place. The fries are also great (1 regular portion, always overserved so it spills over into the bag, feeds two unless you were reallly hungry). The only thing that is not so great is they post the calories up for you to see how much your fast food craving is going to shorten your life. I haven't had the courage to try anything bigger than the standard (junior?) burger. Always hits the spot, I'd knock it down to 4.5 because the location isn't as convenient for me as it was on my last commute, and the guilt factor induced by the calories being displayed so prominently... But yelp doesn't let me do half marks, so they can have a 5. Good as it gets for fast food burgers in midtown. read more

Pretty good burger for the price, unlimited free toppings, unlimited fountain soda, complimentary peanuts, reasonable wait time, clean bathroom, very generous fries servings. These are the pluses. Now onto need some improvements: my burger was pretty sloppy, one of the toppings I asked for was missing( quick walk to the counter and it was taken care off), while I am annoyed by too much of the "customer service ass kissing" this place has non of customer service at all. The bun is super soggy and the customer service sucks. I ordered the all the way toppings and hot sauce with my bacon cheeseburger and they screwed up the order. The guy who took our order was really rude and kept on rushing us. My cousin had ordered a small bacon cheeseburger but the guy messed that up too and when he heard us talk to each other about it, he was all up in our face about it. read more

I gotta tell you, ive tried really hard to jump on the bandwagon here because everyone says that this place has the best burger in town. After ordering probably 6 times in the past year, I just can't say that it beats out local competition like Island Burger, Burger Joint and Shake Shack. Their fries are so heavy and drenched in oil...I don't know who could stomach these. The meat needs salt too...its just not that great. Sorry guys...I tried really hard, but Island Burger in hells kitchen is still king...esp since they now serve fries, which are outstanding. read more
