I've frequented this spot a few times whenever I feel the need to congest my arteries any further than they likely already are. I heard that Obama put this place on the map when he made his motorcade stop here for a burger once. They do make a good burger, but being from the west coast, I am much more of an In-N-Out kind of person. Similar scale operation as In-N-Out, but with a East Coast feel (and fatty) feel to it. I understand where the comparisons to In-n-Out are coming from... fresh burgers that are cooked to order, fresh cut french fries, etc... But I think Five Guys are still a notch below In-n-Out with their burger, despite the endless topping possibilities. So I have to reluctantly admit that the West Coast still has us beat in terms of delicious burger chains. The fries kicked ass though and are much tastier than In-n-Out's. Good burgers are great here. The hot dogs are alright. Salty. I order it online to go and it's always ready in seven minutes. Grab it and go. The service is always slow here. It's funny that after living in the birthplace of Five Guys for years I never once managed to eat there until after I moved to the west coast and then traveled back to the east coast to eat at Five Guys who have now expanded north to Manhattan among other places. This was my worst experience ever and I will make sure everyone knows about it. I ordered a single cheeseburger with lettuce mayo jalapeño mustard and onions with a small Cajun fries I ordered this through Uber Eats. When my food got to me it was still hot considering I'm only 3-5 blocks away from the restaurant. My food was completely wrong so I decided to call the restaurant in hopes of SOMETHING happening. I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor and a guy named William came to the phone. He was very disrespectful as soon as he got on the phone. He seemed as if I was bothering him by complaining about my order. I requested William read my my order back to make sure I was not hallucinating. He then read me my order and as I proceeded In explaining my order is wrong and so forth and so on he began to yell at me over the professional octave I should be spoken at. He spoke over me while I tried to explain my order and when I told him I was recording the conversation he told me he "doesn't care" and "it is what it is ". I then asked to speak with someone OVER him because I was very displeased with how I got spoken to and he disconnected the call. I will NEVER eat from this establishment again with employees who do not know how to speak with customers whom spend money. This was disgusting behavior and i was completely outraged. Originally when I called I was calm , just a little flustered my food wasn't correct. By the time I got off the phone my chest hurt from going back and forth with a MANAGER who works for this establishment. I will definitely also be contacting or trying to contact regional corporate about this matter. He giggled with conworkers in the back ground as I was explaining my issue. Met up with a friend and we quickly decided we were on a burger mission. We tried Burger Joint first, but there weren't any tables available or clearing out any time soon so we walked the 3 or 4 blocks to Five Guys and I'm so glad we did. The cajun fries are not so be missed. I full on pigged out. I got the fries, a little cheeseburger AND a hot dog. There was a five guys near me when i lived farther south and it was amazing. As soon as i heard one opened up near me( i now live in hoboken) i was there. Bacon cheeseburger with BBQ sauce. I grew up in Maryland where there was a Five Guys everywhere! It was my absolute favorite burger place and now that they're here in Manhattan - I couldn't be more excited. I've eaten at this particular location on two separate occasions and and on both occasions, I've ended up with a tummy ache. The first time it happened, I thought it was coincidence, thinking that it was due to something I'd eaten earlier in the day or something totally unrelated. Well I went there today. I ordered a small cheese burger with the usual toppings (lettuce, pickles and mustard) and a side of fries. No sooner had I eaten the food, I started experiencing this sharp pain in my stomach. I began to feel the need to use the bathroom, so I rushed home. After hours of diarrhea and a few spoonfuls of Pepto Bismol, I've decided never to return to this Five Guys. Five Guys is a great addition to the neighborhood, but I still think Burger Joint rules the roost. It is definitely close though. Five Guys is more along the lines of an In N Out Burger, but falls just short of that holy grail of fast food burgers. Burger Joint is less fast food oriented and puts a more homey burger together in my opinion. Still I really enjoy Five Guys and the may options for toppings. Heard of 5 Guys from my friend who worked in one...And was surprised/realized there was one right next to Menchanko-Tei when I went a little too early last weekend. Went in at 11AM and was pleased with the environment with the various decor. Went in to grab a burger (ONLY a burger b/c "God only knows calorie count on their fries" - words of my friend who used to work in one.) Ordered a burger with Mushrooms, Onions, Lettuce, Tomato and A1 sauce. Then was told to wait 15 minutes for the grills to heat up. 0_o? Didn't 5 Guys have a policy to be ready to serve before opening? Even if that's not so, the store's been open since 10:30? So I asked when my order would be done. Answer: *Shrug.* I'm the only one here right now. So I have to do everything. 0_o??? So I wait about 30 minutes and am told I'll get fries as freebies as I lean on the counter looking at my watch (I go work at 12 PM mind you.) BAM! I get hit on the head from the flipping counter from a worker who just came in running to punch in. No "sorry" or even an impolite "excuse me". Just run in, open the counter and dash to the time stamp machine inside the office. While I was annoyed the initial person who took my order apologized in the MANAGER'S stead. Yes, the one that was late to work was the MANAGER. I figured enough was enough as even the deep fryers were still warming up and asked for my money back. The worker who took my order complied and the manager seeing this BERATED her for giving me a refund. Lady, did you just forget what you did to cause me to get this disappointed? Reminding her of this incident only had her claiming she was "in the office the entire time". Maybe it's just me but I seem to get these streaks of bad service in the morning. (-_-;) I on the other hand got to watch the worker who gave me the refund go teary eyed as I continued to argue with the manager that this was NOT acceptable. Answer: *Yelling back that I had nothing to prove my "story."* Back to the point, I received my money and left. Later coming back during break to give the employee who tried to give me free fries and drink tip. True story, with that employee fired shortly for refunding money from the register instead of her check. The manager? Still there ordering people around. I don't get the hype. Nothing special about the burgers here. Not bad but not in the same league as the Burger Joint or Island Burger. You get a good variety of toppings but can't get a burger rare or medium rare. The prices are about normally for the area, and while it was quite busy when I was there(1:30 p.m.) , I got in ordered and out in 10 minutes. This is your standard Five Guys--the same great tasting burger and fries as any other location. This one is pretty small--as if there was a weird gap between the stores next to it and someone got greedy and decided to throw a fast food place in-between. So don't bring your party of 10+ here (look at you, tourists!). As with any midtown place, it gets crowded at lunch, but the staff is on point and friendly and keeps the line moving and the burgers grilling.
