Fantastic crew here, really nice people, and the best burger you can get in Petaluma!!

I should preface this with, I am not a burger fan, but I'd probably say this was worth 3.5 stars. In fact before this I hadn't had a beef burger in probably over 10 years. I got the craving for a beef burger recently and decided to give 5 guys a try. I'm glad I did because it was really good. My husband called in our order and I got there early so I had to wait about 5 minutes but the food was really fresh and VERY hot. I couldn't believe how much food we got. The fries completely filled the bag. There was no way I could have eaten all my fries. I went in on a Friday night and it was not busy in there at all. When I got home our burgers weren't soggy at all. The pickles were especially delicious. I'm not sure I'd go back super soon just because I think the burger craving has been fulfilled but overall I was happy with the experience. read more

You walk in and they have buckets of free peanuts. Really fun for the kids. Especially since the food is made fresh to order, so it takes some time to cook so the peanuts are fun to snack on before the meal. They hook it up on the fries. So cool how they always add an extra scoop into the bag on top of whatever size fries you ordered. So one Large Fry was good up to 3 people. Cheeseburger was so juicy & delicious. Love how it's cooked fresh to order. Cheese dogs were great too, the kids loved them. Fun place to bring the family. read more

Would give high ratings for the food, but the service is terrible. 20 mins for a small plain burger and small fry. I was the only customer waiting initially so I don't know what the hold up could be. A nice man with long hair did apologize to me and claimed to be the only one working. Frustrating though because ive seen at least 4 or 5 employees. They all seem to be wrapping up or on break. One guy prepared what seemed to be his meal before mine. And took the last of the fires which is what I believe I am still waiting on. Could have gone to a sit down restaurant and had food arrive quicker. They keep asking me if I am picking up a different names order. If I'm the only one waiting I don't know how they're getting me mixed up. Such a shame. This place used to be good. read more

I'm posting my review here as well as the other YELP page because I'm not sure which one is the real deal: This location was filthy when we arrived, all of the tables that were empty had not been cleaned, we waited at least fifteen minutes for our order, and it was wrong, the burger buns were soggy. The only thing that was good, were the Cajun Fries - they were hot, and they were flavorful. I'm very disappointed in Five Guys; as I've only heard great things about them. I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger with everything; I'm really not sure there was a burger patty on it at all, and if there was, I ate it in the first bite. My sister ordered a little cheeseburger with everything on the side; they put EVERY THING on the side; including the burger patty, which they placed upside down on top of the mushrooms, onions, lettuce and tomatoes - which sort of ruined the whole "on the side" thing. Sloppy service, not staffed with friendly people. We sat outside to eat because over half the tables were not cleaned off from the previous customers. We waited over a half hour for our food, then my sister had to take hers back because, well, everything was NOT on the side. read more

I use the mobile app order so I don't have to wait in line when it's busy time. Friendly staff and they will make your order however you want besides how the meat is cooked though. Peanuts everywhere and floors were a bit sticky. But the food was good. read more

So I've been sucked into this ongoing debate of In-N-Out vs Five Guys more times than I can count and I can finally chime in because I've now been here. First off let me say that I'm not sure why this is a question that keeps coming up because they are barely even in the same category. They are two totally different types of burger places. The one is fast food and the other isn't. I ordered a simple cheeseburger and I must say that it was quite good. I appreciated that the patty was a bit thicker. They had a good quality bun and it was just the right amount of messy. All in I would say if you compared this to other fast food burger places it was solid but since it's not really "fast food" you have to compare it to other casual sit down burger places. In that arena I'd say it was just as good but not necessarily a stand out. read more

I love the Five Guys in Hayward...not so much the store in Petaluma. First the music is so loud that the cashier has to shout to be heard. The milkshake was watery,too sweet and did not have whipped cream unless she blended that in too. The Burger tasted pretty good but the grilled onions were still raw and the buns fell apart as soon as it was lifted the first time. I was really looking forward to this treat but my hopes were dashed. read more

One of the worst experiences I had in a LONG time. When I first entered the store, there was a strong stench like the store was mopped with a mop that still had rotting food on it. On top of that, there was trash and food debris all over the floor. Store cleanliness can use major improvement. On top of that, the cashier was extremely rude. He was a black male and gave no greeting whatsoever. He just lifted his chin up followed by a short and blunt "ya?" The cook in the back came to greet me instead, since his coworker in front was too rude and incompetent to give a simple greeting. The food wasn't very good either. The burger bun was very soggy and tasted as if it had been dipped in water. The flavor was also very bland and the texture was completely off. My entire meal costed me $14 which is ridiculous for this quality of food. Overall, a terrible experience. However, kudos to the cook who was aware that his coworker wasn't doing his job properly and filled in his place. read more

Ok so we go to this location at least 4 times a month! And I can't tell you how amazing their crew is! I actually called tonight after getting home and eating my burger and fries because it was perfect! Everything was delicious! Veggie sandwich: lame I know I know, but here me out: my judge of a burger place is how they hook up the veggies - do they give them a dried out veggie burger? Or is it a flavor bomb? This place sorely lacks - not even a veggie patty, just sauteed veggies tucked into a super cheesy, greasy bun thing. Lame... Fries were over fried and seasoned oddly.... just not good. If I'm going to fill my belly with greasy, fatty food, I want to make sure its damn worth the effort. In n out is far better, even for vegs, but Super Duper is by far the best. I read an article a few years ago which said Five Guys had the best fries around and good burgers too. I went to the Petaluma location and it was true........great crisp real fries and good sized quality burgers freshly made at a reasonable price. It has been a number of months since I last was here, and today was a total disappointment. The fries were greasy and soft and had the proper color as if they were cooked right and were warm, but they were not good. Maybe the fryers were too cool or they had been sitting way too long, though they seemed to be putting new ones up. The hamburger which was ready too fast had become tiny, thin, and nowhere near as good as they were fairly recently. Everything has gone up in price, but paying $20 dollars for a meal not much better than McDonald's is just not worth it. It's too bad. They used to be great. I would go 5 miles out of my way to eat there whenever I was in the area but I probably won't be back. read more

They've got delicious, addictive nuts! 5 Guys Burgers&Fries started in Arlington, Virginia/Washington DC... and we all know Virginia is for Lovers! I think they're as good as Florida-based BurgerFi, California's the Habit... and definitely superior to California's In-N-Out. And who wouldn't enjoy an in-n-out with 5 guys? I went for their cheeseburger "all the way" (most of their toppings are complimentary, or perhaps complementary?)... and even the mushrooms they use as a topping are excellent, since they're fresh. They have wonderfully delicious Cajun fries. I don't usually get gushy over French fries.. but these are the best of any chain. Nice, firm, definitely not flaccid. They're already flavorful... and the freshly pumped ketchup doesn't hurt. They have a nice, clean outdoor dining area in an otherwise bland strip mall. They were doing more of a business than the nearby Chipotle. They have perky, friendly service and a clean, open kitchen. And who wouldn't come out of 5 Guys full&deeply satisfied? read more

This place is so terrible. I have only been to this location so I can't rate them as a whole yet, but I have yet to have a good experience here. I have now gone 3 times and most likely will not be returning. The staff is extremely lazy and unfriendly. Each time I have ordered something different(my wife as well) and it was either wrong or just completely terrible. The first time we went I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger well done and she just got a Medium order of fries for us to share. Firsty our food took extremely long to be prepared. I understand that ordering Well Done will prolong the process but this was just ridiculous. When we got our food, my Burger was Medium Rare, the only part that looked cooked was the exterior. Far from Well Done. The fries were completely drenched in grease, and completely uncooked. I felt like I was biting into a raw potato. Im normally not a person to complain at a restaurant so we just dealt with it and wrote it off to them being busy. (3 other customers) Now for the second time we went in. I order a Mini Bacon Cheeseburger (Well Done), Small Fries and my wife order their Vegetable Sandwhich (she is a Vegetarian so not much she could order even though it is most likely Cross Contaiminated anyways). This time our food came pretty damn quick. When we received our food, I could have sworn I order a Mini Bacon Cheeseburger, but they made me a Regular Cheeseburger with no Bacon, and guess what, it wasnt Well Done again either. My wifes sandwhich was a soggy disgusting mess. There was so much Cheese and Grease in the foil that the Bun was Gooey. When she went to take a bite all of the Cheese and Vegetable glooped out the side of the Soggy Gooey Bun. This time we decided we didnt want to pay for something completely unedible and incorrect. When we approached the guy behind the counter, he was in the middle of a conversation with his coworker. He looked over at us and then continued. Once he realised we were starring right at him like we needed some help, he sighed and walked over "do you need something?" I almost lost my s*** (Im a General Manager in Food Service) so I had the wife talk to him before I freaked out. He did not give half a damn. He told us "Thats how the Veggie Sandwhich is, but we will make you a new one". we got a refund and left. The third time was just me. I ordered a Medium Fries and a Soda. I just wanted some Fries and was at Target so figured what the hell. Bad Idea. Fries once again we Soaked in Grease and uncooked. I threw them away and walked out with my soda. Never Again. I don't know where all these people who wrote those reviews and articles they have all over the walls went but it sure as hell WAS NOT this Petaluma location. 1 Star because my Soda was delicious everytime we went.... read more

I have been wanting to try five guys ever since I heard of it. Went in, ordered a cheeseburger and Cajun fries, and the fries were undercooked. I can get shitty fries just about everywhere in Petaluma! Pass... Oh, and the burger? Yeah, okay, the meat didn't suck. Been going to this place since it opened and the service has always been great, they complete orders efficiently and never run out of random menu items. It's also clean and the people who work here are nice & welcoming. Before I decided what I wanted one of the people behind the counter asked if I wanted a mini cheeseburger since I'm so short, which is what I ended up ordering. I went back to Five Guys 10 minutes before they closed so my sister could order to go. Some places act annoyed if people order food in the last 15 minutes but they were nice about it and completed the order. I recommend this place! read more

So I came in today to check out 5 Guys and so far I am very disappointed. Not only did it take over 15 minutes to get my food, this place is filthy and is very dirty. There is trash everywhere. I would not recommend anyone to come eat at this place. Just by seeing the dinning room, I wonder how clean the kitchen is. There is 4 employees standing on the line, but no one is checking the freaking dinning room. Customer service is a zero, I did not feel welcomed in this place. This place always looks busy whenever I drive by on my way to Sprouts. Maybe the food has improved since I last ate here which this review will be based on as I have been reviewing burger joints I have eaten in the past. It was packed that day but I helped myself with their complimentary peanuts to past the time. These are good peanuts but with all the shells on the floor, it looked like I had step into a Texas road house. I had ordered the bacon cheeseburger and notice they wrap it in tin foil to keep the burger warm unlike some custom paper or box most fast food joint uses. It was warm when I unwrapped it which is good but the bun was also soggy. Worse than that, the meat was on the greasy side. And I hardly notice any bacon flavor and had to check to make sure it was there. So I had a soggy greasy burger and felt uneasy after eating it. I don't recall whether I had ordered fries or not so I will not comment on them. Like I said, the place seem to pack with people whenever I drive by so either it gotten better or that's how most patrons likes their burgers. If so, their not yelpers with so few reviews thus far. For me, I would rather eat a philly cheese steak on the other side of this complex even if I feel like having a burger because it will not disappoint. I walked in and was expecting In and Out all over again. What I got was BETTER! The service was the level of In and Out but the food was on a much higher level! They have so many gret toppings to switch around to build a great burger with! My burger was exactly how I ordered it and was very happy with the results. I also found the fries the way better then ANY OTHER of the fast food place. I am generally not a fan of fries because they are not done right but these guys nailed it! Oh and for the short time you wait there are the roasted peanuts they have by the boxes for you to enjoy! How awesome is that? I do wish they had combos. And I wish they had shakes. Thank you Five Guys for coming to Petaluma. In the past when I wanted fast food in Petaluma, I would go to In N Out. I liked the burgers and the staff, but I hated the long waits for my food, even when the store was empty. I would've liked to order ahead, but they don't allow you to do that. I imagine it has to do with psychology: "If there are so many people in the store, it must be good". Another way to put it is: "I was hungry when I got here, now that I finally have my order, I am famished. McDonald's would even taste good at this point". What a relief when Five Guys came to town. I can order on my phone by clicking 3 or 4 buttons (I already have my order in their app as my favorite) and my food is ready when I get to the restaurant. I go right to the pick up counter, grab my food and some peanuts and I'm on my way out the door. The prices are slightly higher than In N Out, but there is more variety and more burger. I don't think Five Guys is much more expensive when you look at what you get. The quality of Five Guys burgers are head and shoulders above other burgers in that price range, like at Carl's Jr. (disgusting), Jack In The Box (even more disgusting) and Smashburger which is absolutely offensive to burgers. I felt sick to my stomach after eating burgers at each of those three restaurants. Since I first experienced Five Guys, I have been back to In N Out a couple of times and have been disappointed. I realize that the burgers at Five Guys taste much better. Another point for Five Guys is that they have more variety on their menu than In N Out. As far as the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, I would rate the two restaurants the same. Five Guys does a great job of hiring and training as does In N Out. The people at Five Guys have always been professional and courteous, even when they were in the middle of a rush. Every time I have been to any Five Guys, the stores are always clean, save for the peanut shells. (For the people complaining about the peanut shells, wake up...it is part of the company's culture.) **Just a warning about Five Guys, the regular burger and regular fries are enough to feed two people. Unless you eat more than 5000 calories a day, I suggest you order the Little Hamburger and Little Fries. I highly recommend Five Guys. Enjoy. read more

Came in here to see what all they hype was about but this was our first and last visit. Visited around 2 on a Sunday and the place was less than half full. 4 crew members (3 cooks and 1 cashier) were on staff but no one greeted us. As it was our first time, we didn't know what we wanted or what to expect. Pricing is extremely high, the wait is really long and staff gets confused and for what we got, the fries and burger were just ok. But the worst, was that there were shells all over the floor, and we had to sit outside because EVERY open table was dirty. As soon as someone falls and sues them, the peanut issue won't be a problem any more. This place seriously needs to take notes from In-N-Out. Their place is always immaculate, food comes out quick, tastes better, and EVERY staff member has a smile even when emptying your garbage. read more

If you want the convenience of fast food without eating low quality meat, this is the place for you. It's pricey, but a great value in the end due to how many fries they give you if you order any. Everything tastes fresh, you can see it being made, and the atmosphere is fun despite the numerous awards they have covering their walls. Turns out they won those for a reason! Their menu system allows for great customization. Want a burger with just bacon and cheese? No problem! How about with mushrooms and steak sauce? Delicious! It's not quite what the In-n-Out secret menu offers, but at restaurants like that, variations on their standard orders are options. At Five Guys, that's standard. Their fries are like nothing you can find at McDonalds or Burger King, and they give you so many with every order you almost forget how much you're paying for the burgers. But quality isn't cheap! It's like going to a Chipotle instead of a cheap taco shack, or a local coffee chain instead of a Starbucks. The price is higher, but so is the quality. This place has a three star rating, and that's because it's usually up against every other burger anyone who reviews it has had in their life. I'm rating it against all the other FAST FOOD burgers I've had in my life, and it blows them out of the water in a lot of respects. I would give it a try and see for yourself. read more

Everyone behind the counter was arguing and fighting the entire 20 minutes that I stood there waiting for my food. Throughout all of the staff arguing, one went in the back twice and hit a wall each time. One of the guys told another employee that if he didn't like it that there was the door and that he could leave and kept pointing at the door for him to go. The same guy telling an employee he could leave if he didn't like it was ridiculing the way the one female employee was making the burgers. He watched how she put the ketchup and mustard onto the bun and he picked up his own ketchup bottle and squirted more on the bun and slammed the bottle back down on the counter. The guy kept ridiculing the poor girl about what she was doing. Everyone working there seemed to not get along. A few of the employees saw me standing there watching, yet kept arguing amongst one another. There were 5 employees working, one of who did not partake in the arguing and scene that the other 4 were making in front of customers. He stayed out of it and tried to get the orders out but I found it to be unprofessional the way they were acting in front of customers. After waiting 20 minutes for my food, I lost my appetite watching everyone fight and bicker with one another. I didn't bother asking for a manager I just called corporate instead. This place sucks. Burger, fries, and a drink for $17? Unreal. Soda machine broken and sprayed all over my hand....great. Burger surprisingly came with mushrooms. Foul. Greasy, messy, and not in a good way. Lacked salt and pepper, but was too upset to add it myself. To top it all off, a wobbly cheap dirty to sit in. The food tasted great, fries and burger were hot when we got our order but the sitting area and bathrooms were disgusting. It looked like nobody cleaned the sitting area. Tables were dirty and sticky, floor seemed like it hadn't been swept or mopped all day. The bathroom stunk, my husband barely felt comfortable going in. Mediocre at best. Came to 5 Guys in Petaluma because of a Bank of America 10% Cash Back Deal. Walls lined with praise from all over the country so I was looking forward to my meal. Had never heard of this chain. Disappointed. Not the cleanest of places; bathroom door grimy, litter on floor in dining area. Was going to order a milkshake until I saw it came out of a machine not real ice cream. Just looked unappetizing. Ordered a Little Bacon Burger "All The Way" asking for tomatoes on the side and bun grilled. Little Fries "5 Guys Style " which is just with salt. Even though eating there, all meals served in a greasy brown bag. No tray, yuk. Fries super hot but limp, not crispy at all. Burger lame. Bun cold though grilled. No tomato at all. Sparing on condiments. Grilled Onions & Mushrooms just slimy. Bacon limp and tasteless. Not even close to In and Out franchise in Petaluma. My burger standards are high. SuperBurger on 4th Street Santa Rosa the best and it's espresso milkshake too. Did not eat it all as definitely not worth the $11 or calories. Will not be back read more

Ok, yes, it is fast food. You order at the counter and wait a few minutes for burgers and fries and milkshakes. But, there is an upscale element here compared to McD and BK. The food is higher quality. The burgers we had were very good. The fries are the thinner homestyle type so you might be disappointed if it is McD, BL or Amy's Fries you are looking for. But maybe this is just what you want and maybe you'll even try the Cajun. I thought the food was good for what it is, the service was great (friendly and competent). The milkshake selection is good. I loved how the menu bravely and clearly displayed calories so you know what you are getting into. AND there is outdoor seating! And if some in your party want to go next door to Chipotle, you can all sit together outside. If fast food burgers are your style, this place should be on your list. read more

Thankfully I gave this two stars because the food is great, just this particular location lacks in service.
