My daughters wanted burgers late evening on a Saturday night. First time ordering Five Guys and got a little confused when I ordered a single patty hamburger and he called it a little burger. Didn't realize that the regular hamburger came with 2 patties. Once we figured that out, we placed the order. Michael, with whom we placed our order, was super helpful and kind. We ordered the Cheeseburger and Cajun fries. I added everything in black letters for my toppings. After waiting for our order, we realized we could had just ordered one Cajun fries instead. The reason why? What I like about Five Guys is they give you so much Cajun fries! I have a big appetite and I could not even finish them. So we rather just save them to eat at home. My burger was cooked well and the buns were not soggy or squashed this time. The toppings was well placed on the patty. Every bite I took, none of the toppings fell especially the mushrooms. I forgot how good these burgers were! First off I feel like everything comes in huge portions so if you're a baby like me, you might want to size down for your fries or opt for the "little" burgers. It's actually not that small though - you're definitely not getting a kid's size. In fact I feel like a lot of other burger chains have burgers at the little size but that's a discussion for another review. My little cheeseburger "all the way" got me most of the standard toppings you would expect. I do want to highlight that the onions and the mushrooms come grilled which is a big part of why the burgers taste so good. Another big selling point is the patty itself also tastes like it's actual meat as opposed to many other chains. The fries also look and taste like real potatoes. I go through these phases where I am just downright craving milkshakes. Which can be truly unfortunate for someone with lactose intolerance: but, the suffering is worth it during the moment, I swear. Thankfully with Five Guy's offering hand spun milkshakes with unlimited mix-ins (for 3.99!) I don't have to travel far to get my fix (or sit in rush hour trying to get home to relieve the aftermath, if you know what I'm saying). My go to as of late is the Oreo Double stuffed Milkshake with Coffee. To die for people. Try it. I'm debating for next time adding some malted milk to make it thicker. We shall see... You know what? I like Five Guys. Yes, I have been and In-N-Out diner for years, and still am. I first fell in love with In-N-Out in the early 80's when I lived about a mile from one of the old drive through shacks with 2 lanes. And I have been hooked ever since. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy Five guys too. I have read a lot of arguments on-line over the past few months about which is better - 5 Guys or In-N-Out. It seems to have the same passionate fervor as debates on Pepsi vs Coke, PC vs Mac, Gibson vs Fender, and Mustang vs Camaro. It's that last one that to me is an equivalent debate. How do two great muscle cars relate to two hamburger joints? Well let me explain - and I'm thinking of the 1967 versions of these cars. Disclaimer, why I have always been a Mustang fan, I actually owned a 1967 Camaro RS/SS 350 for a number of years. To me, Five Guys is like the 1967 Camaro and In-N-Out is like the 1967 Mustang. You see, when the Camaro was introduced in 1967, it was there to compete directly against the Mustang. So the executive orders were to make it bigger, badder, and better and to give the "boomers" of the late 60's enough options to custom-specify their new pony car. So the 1967 Camaro was several inches longer and wider than the Mustang - like the 5 Guys burger (and the fries) are bigger than the In-N-Out counterparts. Also, when you ordered your Camaro, the order sheet had 80 factory options and 40 dealer accessories to choose from. That is well over double the number of options for the Mustang. There were 7 engines alone (2 inline-6's, 3 small block V8's, and 2 big block options). In the burger wars, when you order a burger at 5 Guys, you have many more options to choose from than at In-N-Out. Regarding price, the Camaro was a little more expensive than the Mustang - as 5 Guys is more expensive than In-N-Out. In both cases you did get a little more for that extra cost. Another comparison is messiness. Let's face it 5 Guys burgers are messy, especially if you get several of the options. Tasty, but messy. How does this relate? Well the 67 Camaro suffered from rear wheel hop and wheel spin upon hard acceleration, even on the RS/SS 350 which had a traction bar. It also took longer to stop and the front disc brakes had a tendency to lock up easily. This (and other reasons) made it a messier car to drive. I could go on, but I think you get my point. It's a matter of preference and taste, both are a very good product. I still go to In-N-Out more, but Five guys will get my business too. Similar in that I grew up a Mustang lover, until I drove the Camaro. I'd take either one of those. And to this day I still regret selling the Camaro. read more

I showed up early on the first day it opened, hoping to catch some grand opening specials. Being customer #39 just entitled me to bragging rights as being one of the first customers, nothing else. Five Guys has invaded In N Out land. From the freshly made to order burgers to the red and white theme, you could plainly see the comparisons between the two. The difference is toppings, where at Five Guys you have the choice of jalapenos, grilled mushrooms, barbecue sauce, hot sauce, etc. Don't be duped into ordering the regular burger. That has two patties, loads of toppings, and is a mess to eat. I'll opt for the small instead. They also serve a generous serving of fries, so be ready to share. Over $10 for a "regular" burger, fries, and a drink. I'm not sure about the value, especially since the other red and white burger place is not too far away...and they toast their buns! read more

This was the second time I went to a Five Guys chain and this spot is the closest from my home. I came today during lunch and oh my gosh it was so hard to find parking! With that said after parking in a spot that was "reserved for clean cars," whatever that means, I got to Five guys. The line was pretty long but they go through it pretty fast. I ordered a little cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, peppers, mayo and ketchup. I was surprised how good it was. It was juicy and tasted fresh, something that you can get at a home BBQ with home made patties. I finished the WHOLE thing!!! Did I mention they give A TON of fries?! Well they do, if you're going with another person, you guys can share one fry. As for the customer service, it was terrific! I feel bad for the guys that are constantly yelling out numbers because their voices must be exhausted by the end of the day. I first tasted Five Guys years ago when in VA and loved it. Since then, locations have been popping up in California but rarely do the CA franchises burgers compare to the great burger I had in Dulles Airport. Fast forward to last week and I had a really great tasting burger with great service. First, the order. There are a ton of menu items to order, check out their web site. If you order "all the way" you get their most popular menu items but can add any of the extra toppings as well. Any combination or quantity of toppings is included in the price of the burger. Toppings included all the regular standard burger toppings and also grilled mushrooms, green peppers, jalapenos, hot sauce, bbq sauce, relish, pickles, etc. One patty is a little burger and 2 patties is a regular burger. The single patty is plenty for me. The fries are hand cut and fried twice-I always order them sans salt although their Cajun seasoning for the fries is very popular. So we walk up to the register and come to find out the man who took our order was THE OWNER JIM- how nice! He offered me something I never had on my burger at a 5 guys location, nor have I seen on the menu, but something I will order from now on...GRILLED JALAPENOS. I was so intrigued when he asked me if I wanted my jalapenos grilled which normally just come raw sliced, that I ordered the jalapenos both ways which was a great choice. Jim forewarned me that it would be spicy but I was up for the challenge and actually I couldn't even taste the heat, but I did taste the flavor, they must have been mild jalapenos. A gazillion of toppings are available for free so when you order, tell them how you want it cooked. *Hamburger ($5.59): I opted for mayo, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato. The regular burger all comes with two patties. There's plenty to eat. Taste-wise it reminds me of McDonalds. I prefer Whopper and In-N-Out better. But I do like how fresh their burger is, piping hot wrapped in tin foil. *Hamburger ($5.59): the BF chose mayo, lettuce, onion, pickle, and ketchup on his. Two patties and splattered with lots of ketchup. He also didn't like it as much as In-N-Out. *Fries ($2.59): Medium, served in a soda cup. Overflowing portion of fries fell into the bag. They were like steak fries cooked in peanut oil. Pretty tasty but IMO not crunchy enough. *Free refills for soda---and they have Coke Zero! *You can also get Little Hamburger with one patty. They also have dogs. Maybe we're spoiled by the gourmet burgers in the city. Five Guys is just so-so. This location is in the new shopping plaza right by Hwy 237. The regular burgers they have two patties, so if you're just wanting one (which boggles my mind), opt for the small burger. Personally I'm not sure why people say In-n-Out is better than 5Guys or vice versa, can't I like both? :) I went on Friday before a 3day weekend, so it might have been a little bit busier/less busy because of it. When my co-workers and I arrive, there was a short line out the door, with a 5Guys employee handing out menus and answering questions about the menu. Within 5 minutes, I was at the front of the time ready to order. I got a Little Bacon Hamburger with "All the way" toppings (560 calories... not too bad). The "little" has one burger patty, where as "regular" has 2. I was full from the burger and had some room to steal fries from my co-workers. Comparing In-n-Out to 5Guys... I like the bacon in my burger and the fries at 5Guys. At the same time I like the ranch/special sauce & animal style fries that I can get at In-n-Out. At the end of the day, its all going to the same place :) Overall I had a good experience at 5Guys. If you are going there during the lunch hour, I suggest arriving when the open or as early as possible. The line can get long and the seats get taken quickly. The wait for the food isn't as long as In-n-Out though. And no drive-thru at 5Guys :( read more

This place is conveniently located near my resident and have frequently showed my patronage by purchasing their delicious burgers and fries. It's a cook to order burger joint and they have like 15 different toppings you can add to your burger. Besides burgers, they also sell hot gods and sandwiches. I haven't tried anything else but their burgers and fries. I don't like to deviate from what I know is good. I usually order the Little Bacon Cheeseburger all the way w/o pickles. The burgers are juicy and very flavorful. It comes wrapped in foil and when you open it, it does look messy, but who cares when it taste good. I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger and split some fries with my boyfriend. We also got the hot dog (cause we figured we wanted to try everything they had since we wouldn't be back anytime soon). We currently live in Hawaii, which doesn't have Five Guys. The bacon cheeseburger was good but had waaay too much juice coming out of it. The bun became super soggy after a minute or two. I understand that a juicy burger should have juices coming out of it, but this was too much grease dripping out - that's why I'm deducting 1 star. The flavor was good, and the toppings were great. The guy at the register even asked if I wanted my jalapenos pan fried a little bit, which was a great suggestion! I think they should have this as an option on the regular menu (in case that guy is not working). The hot dog was surprisingly good! This place is mostly known for it's burgers, but I think I liked the hot dog just as much. The fries were ok, nothing spectacular, but nothing wrong with them either. We also ended up having room for their shakes. So I ordered a double stuff oreo shake and my boyfriend ordered the strawberry. They were pretty good. I like that you can mix and match the flavors and also how you can add as many flavors as you want at no extra cost. There's always been a meaningless debate as to who has the better burger - IN & OUT ...or... FIVE GUYS. Honestly, I think both taste pretty much the same with the main difference being that FIVE GUYS offers more "toppings" that IN & OUT does not have and IN & OUT offering milk shakes that FIVE GUYS do not have. I've been to FIVE GUYS 3 times now, each time at a different location. I've dined at the one in Redwood City, Fremont, and my latest encounter was San Jose. If you're ever craving unshelled peanuts, this place is definitely a go-to location to satisfy that strange peanut craving of yours!! During my latest visit, I ordered just a regular hamburger with ketchup, tomato, onion, and jalapeno peppers. No fries. No soda. I guess I never paid attention to my first 2 visits, but when I got my hamburger, there was TWO beef patties!! The height of my burger was so tall I had some difficulty trying to stuff it between my open jaw. I also felt the beef patty was a bit on the salty side. Not good. One let down regarding FIVE GUYS is how they don't offer milk shakes!! Because I was craving a milk shake to go with my savory burger, I ended up having to walk a few stores down to Chick-fil-A to order my milk shake. What we swallowed: LITTLE BURGER: A simpler, "backyard BBQ" tasting burger that definitely felt like I could order one here instead of BBQing up one at home.. My daughter and I love this place. Today, moreso than ever. My daughter recently got her braces off and was given new Invisalign tops and bottoms for her teeth. As kids will do, she wrpped her brand new expensive Invisalign in paper napkins and they were thrown out. 40 minutes later, we were back at the restaurant. I decided I had no choice but to look through the garbage to retrieve them. Not only did the management allow us to take the trash can back to a private area, she actually helped us look through the garbage! I feel that this place is way too hyped up for what it is. I came here one afternoon with a craving for a good burger and fries. I got the little bacon burger (FYI, I ordered wrong because I didn't realize there was a separate selection for a bacon cheeseburger). I liked the fact that all the toppings were free and I can choose to put whatever I want in the burger. I also got an order of cajun fries and regular fries. They give you a lot of fries, so next time, I suggest just splitting the fries. We had way too many to eat. There's not much difference between the cajun and regular except one just has sprinkles of the cajun mix. I felt the fries were good, but not the best. I felt the meat in the burger was very dry therefore that made the burger not so good. Honestly, I'd rather just get a whopper from Burger King and that'd make my day over geting a burger at five guys. Or just spend $1 or 2 more and get a way better burger at red robins. read more
