As a recent evacuee, I have temporary housing right nearby Five Guys. I was craving a shake and a burger, so I came here after work one day. The cashier lady was super nice and was patient as I was trying to decide what to have. I ordered a little hamburger all the way without tomatoes and I also added A1 steak sauce. I also got a small fries and an Oreo shake. The little hamburger was the perfect size since it only has one beef patty and I like that you can add A1 steak sauce. They wrap in aluminum foil, so when I took it to my place the bread was a bit soggy. The fries were good and I like that they fry it in peanut oil - I feel I can taste more of the natural potatoes flavor lol. They always add a full scoop of fries to the bag too! Ruff.... poor service, poor food, and the place was dirty. Wished for more five guys! We placed our order, and proceeded to watch as the kitchen struggled to get our food out for 20 minutes. 20 minutes really isn't that long of a wait if a place is busy, but with less than half the tables filled I would have hoped for more. Staff seemed lethargic, confused and overwork as they stumbled around each other. When we did get our order- it was not only lack luster but just not what we had ordered. Regular fries instead of Cajun fries. To add insult to injury they were cold and under fried! The tragedy of cold fries!! We cut our losses and decided to eat what we had been given. The burger paddies were painfully over cooked and clearly had not ever been given any salt or pepper love. The grilled onions were cold and also just really wanted even a pinch of salt! Burgers made fresh in front of you, with exactly what you want on it. Fries aren't just sitting there, they're fresh whenever you order them (and they're great, unlike In N Out). If you're looking for a pretentious fancy burger place, go somewhere else. If you're craving fast food without the disgusting fast food taste, come to Five Guys. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I walked in and the restaurant is mostly empty, save for two others waiting to order. It took 10 minutes before any of the staff even acknowledged the waiting customers. It took another 20 minutes before my order was ready, despite there never being more than three people in the restaurant at a time. Things here move SLOW. You're much better off going to any of the other places around the block than this spot. read more

The best milkshake, Oreo cream...yum! My son had a dog with bacon (plain) very good and crispy bacon. I had a little burger (all the way) my tip for you would to NOT have it all the way because the bun gets soggy with the grilled onions and mushrooms. You would be better off adding your own additions (they are almost all free) and order sliced onions (rather than grilled) and the fresh bell peppers are so good too. The small fry is plenty for two and they are so fresh, a little too salty, ask for little to no salt and add yourself. Great soda options at a do it yourself (two) machines. Our bill was $18.something for a bacon dog, little hamburger, little fry, a shake and a fountain soda (all you can drink). Since Jack's was closed, I went to this establishment over an hour before they closed. I was told they couldn't take my order because they had too many orders and were understaffed. Had 45 min before a local concert, so took family to the Santa Cruz Five Guys location. Team member behind register was a little unsure what to do...OK, must be new. Had to ask peer if "we have small Cokes?". We, ordered 2 full Cheeseburgers (for kids) and 1 little burger for me and hot dog for wife. 2 shakes and 1 small Coke. $49.44...Wow, ok...It will be good. 4-5 customers standing around looking frustrated...bad sign. People asking about their orders. Was not really busy, but people just seemed to be miffed. Sat for a while and watched food prep...seemed really unorganized as if people were trying to figure out what to do. Is the whole team new?? Maybe. 1st shake was ready in 5-10 min...cool...~15 min later, no second shake, no food. ~15 min after that, food but no shake. The employee's 1st response to 'we are missing our 2nd shake' was "I already gave it to you". By then, we had to get going..we had a concert starting 4 blocks away, so we took some bites and headed out. All the "regular" cheeseburgers we paid $8.19 for were wrong..had things my kids did not order like BBQ sauce and onions etc...My meat patty was extra well done and dry. Food was just ok, not worth the expense...shakes were good. This location may need new management, training and certainly needs to consider if they are delivering on the Five Guys premium brand. If the dinner was $21 total (which is what similar would have been at In and Out) I would have chalked it up to a bad day for them, but I have never had such poor service at In and Out and the food is 60% cheaper. I finally got around to trying the new Five Guys in downtown Santa Cruz. I used their online ordering system, and placed my order. While it was ready when I arrived walking down four blocks away from my office, when I got back to my office I discovered they made a big mistake in my order, so I had to walk back down, wait 10 minutes while they made me a new burger, and walk back to my office. No apologies or coupon, just told to wait and they'll make another. The burger was just ok. I will not return. read more

Literally just had the WORST experience at a five guys or in general with customer service. Boyfriend and I could barely order because the music was SO loudly blaring punk rock? The register guy and I could not hear or understand and I could barely think. They finally turned it down after my boyfriend and one other customer asked them too. My boyfriend was not happy about this as I was suffering a little and we both didn't understand why they had it so loud in a place to eat food.... When they finally called our # up, the employee who was giving out the orders was talking in a very high pitched, childish, cartoonish voice. As my boyfriend walked up to the counter the employee very sarcastically says in the annoying voice "oh there he is" "just look how happy he is" and kept on almost mocking and joking and it was NOT funny, and NOT professional, and definitely not cute. We also watched this same employee silently mock other customers that were unaware. We watched this behavior happen for so long it felt. As we finally got maybe (and I mean maybe) two bites in this same employee "John" he said his name was which was a lie came over and told us we were going to have to leave. I tried talking with the so called "manager" of this store whom also wouldn't give their name. She told me this behavior and "happy, energetic vibe" from employees was actually sought after from "secret shoppers" accused my boyfriend of calling the employee a "faggot" which wasn't true and so on. They called the cops and proceeded to video/picture us to get us to leave. While this whole time we had minded our business at our table. They said we were "banned" but yeah right if we would ever return to a place that hires uneducated, uncaring, people who just need easy money. read more

I have to say we dined here this week and was throughly disappointed in the place. Our hamburgers although looked nice was completely soggy and had absolutely no flavor to them. The kitchen floor was filthy and it seemed like no one was cleaning during their slow times. And to top it allllll off, there was a homeless man pan handling demanding money from customers. Someone in our party offered him a fruit and water, and instead he said get me a milkshake inside. No way Jose. This location makes you never want to enter another Five Guys again. 1/3 as busy as InnOut usually is, yet they take twice as long, screw up your order twice as bad, it costs more than twice as much, and this food was NOT great. My kids had to ask what the cold, stuff American was. They're used to melted cheese in their cheeseburgers. One shake didn't come out. One kid's burger order completely wrong. They're lucky we were late for a show (partly due to coming here) so we just ate and left.
