It's been a while since my last visit to Redwood Sandwiches, and I was really looking forward to the Tri-tip & Blue. Sadly, it was a huge letdown. The tri-tip was so overcooked and tough it felt more like jerky than a sandwich--honestly inedible. Additionally, the blue cheese was over-salted and lacked its signature tang. For a $15 sandwich, I expected the fresh quality I remembered, but sadly, I ended up tossing the whole thing. Super disappointing. This place is hyped up. Too many stars. We ordered three sandwiches which were just ok. I guess with all the high starred reviews I was expecting more. The French dip sandwich was dry, the onions barely cooked. The other two sandwiches they gave us the wrong bread on one of them and the ratio of ingredients wasn't equal throughout. Now that I'm writing this and thinking about how they could do better maybe they just need to slow down and perfect their sandwich making. The service was fairly quick (maybe too quick!). Used to come here just for the great roast turkey sandwiches. Not sure when they changed, it'd been a while since I was last there, but they used to hand carve a real turkey or turkey breast. (Just like Thanksgiving) Now they use thick cut processed turkey. Probably Boar's Head. Bummer. Scotts Valley Market is now the only deli around that I know of that has real, unprocessed turkey, but they only have it occasionally. read more

When everyone gives a place 5 stars, that's a good sign, right? RIGHT. These sandwiches are terrific. We tried the tri-tip with bleu cheese and the special Thanksgiving sandwich (turkey, stuffing, cranberry with a side of delicious gravy on the side). Both were fantastic. Even the kid's simple turkey and cheese sandwich was great. It was made with super thick and juicy carved turkey slices instead of normal thin deli slices. We also tried the potato salad and the macaroni salad and enjoyed them both. Service was very fast and friendly. Incidentally, if I were starting up a sandwich shop, I'd totally copy their menu. When the menu is so good that you cannot decide among 10 or so different choices, you know they're doing something right. read more

When this place opened, their food was consistently delicious. The owners were there and the food was high quality and well prepared. I probably ate there once a week. I don't know if the place was sold or if the original owners have different people running it, but the quality of the food has gotten worse and worse. They have the same menu, however the quality of the meat and the bread has gone down, as well as the preparation. I've gone back three times in the last five months hoping my last meal was just a fluke. Today will be the last time I waste money there, unless I hear about major improvements happening. My favorite sandwich was the California Club. The last two times I've ordered it, it was disappointing at best. The turkey was very dry and the bread was about an 1/8 of an inch thick, burned, and couldn't begin to support the other ingredients. I ordered a ciabatta roll, grilled. Somehow it was grilled to the point it was 1/8 inch thick...and burned in the process. I ate the sandwich with a knife and fork because it couldn't be picked up as a sandwich without it falling apart. I threw away half of the sandwich. Next time, I ordered the sandwich on a sourdough roll, toasted, hoping by not grilling it they wouldn't smoosh it a thin piece of nothing. Not only was the bread so thin it looked like a tortilla, it was also burned. I really don't like burned. Again the turkey was dry and the avocado not very fresh. Again, very disappointing. Today, I was nearby, and ever hopeful I tried again. This time I tried the French Dip. After, tip I paid almost $17.00. I took the sandwich back to my office, took a bite and didn't go back to it. The only redeeming quality was that the au jus was hot. Other than that the bread was stale, and burned. The roast beef was disgusting, tasted like over cooked thin cardboard. Definitely not fresh and clearly reheated a couple times too many. There was a lot of meat, but it was so tough and dry I had to remove it. Too many onions, not enough cheese. It was inedible and I threw the entire sandwich away. I'll not be wasting my money there any longer. So sad when a restaurant does food spectacularly and then someone else thinks they can do the same thing on the cheap. It never works. They have lost a customer for good. I can't imagine they will be around much longer. read more
