Entered and were greeted warmly and had our order taken. Place was decently busy with a lot of to go orders. Got our order fairly quickly. I just got the basic burger special they had that came with fries and a drink for $10. Solid deal in my opinion. We've been back a few times and this place has become a staple of our trip. Since BRGR went out of business this is one of the few places we can get a solid burger and fries.

Located in downtown Altoona, this place has the charm that you would expect to find in some bustling metropolis. After my look around the restaurant my food arrived. Two Texas Dogs and an order of Chili Cheese Fries. Medium drink to top it off. That came to a reasonable price under $10. The dogs were a bit onion heavy but palatable. I love a good chili and they definitely nailed that here. Not too greasy and the meat was really fine and you could eat this like a soup. Add some mustard and these things are ready to go. The fries were swimming in goodness. Fresh fried these are then topped with a generous portion of both chili and cheese sauce. You need to eat these with a fork unless you are alright with getting a bit messy. One thing you'll need to know here is that if you are getting food most of it comes on paper plates, unless you get a bowl of chili or a side that would soak through, everything is disposable here. Another thing to know, if you pay with a card you will be charged a fee.

I wish I knew five guys that could make me burgers like this!! And all of their fries are made from fresh potatoes every day and they even tell you where those potatoes are from!! I mean, true, you never really care what state your potatoes come from, BUT it is a little added bonus to know that little fact here! Kind of gives you food lovers out there who are nerds about knowing things about food, a little home inside of five guys ha ha. Their burger patties are thick and fresh and juicy, and if you are a breakfast lover and come here for one of their amazingly tasty tasty breakfast sandwiches, for $1 more you can add a whole burger patty to it! Granted, I could not eat that much for breakfast, but for those of you out there that can, all of their sandwiches are made fresh to order, and you can add onto it as many of their toppings that they have as you want for free!!! And they say the best things in life are free!!! So my breakfast sandwich was around $4.50 which doesn't come with coffee or hashbrowns or anything which sounds kinda pricey considering how cheap breakfast combo meals are everywhere in the world, but this sandwich would be the king of breakfast sandwiches in my book--egg, cheese, bacon with tomatoes, green peppers, onions and jalapenos!! Mmmmmm what a way to start off my day and this sandwich definitely kept me full for quite some time since it was so big!! This is my fav burger joint. It's A bit more expensive that McDs and BK but worth the $. Avoid lunch hours cause your food can take a lil long. But while you wait, you can munch on some complementary peanuts. I wish it was open later like McDs cause this is where I would be after hitting the bars. I usually get a cheese burger and load up on most of the toppings. Make sure you stock up on napkins since the burger can get messy. And don't forget to order the fries. Make sure you have a friend to share them with because they fill the fries container up and throw in extra in your to-go bag. read more

Now, I hate to be the party pooper but I'll just add that Five Guys isn't a place where you should go all the time.
