I really wanted to give this place a great review, but I can't. The food is quite good, but there are several issues. First, I was there at 5:30 on a Friday evening. I ordered three different items only to be told they were out. For crying out loud, were they surprised that people eat out on Friday. It's not like it was 8:00 in the evening Second, the inside of the restaurant needs attention. It's old, sticky and needs a deep cleaning. Finally, the owner has the personality of a mop they never use. He acts like he doesn't want to be there and each customer is annoying him. The younger guy back behind in the kitchen could be a welcome change at the counter. Oh well. The food is good. read more

The people working here are very sweet and kind. We definitely enjoyed all the smiles. The place is mainly a take out situation with one or two tables inside and picnic tables outside. We ordered the ribs and pulled pork with the following sides--sweet potato fries, Cole slaw, onion rings and beans. Everything was fine--not fantastic but ok. If this is the only BBQ you can get in Pennsylvania, then I'm sure sorry. read more

I was very disappointed with the beef brisket. It was 50% fat and the meat was in tiny pieces. In the past I remember stopping and getting very lean sliced brisket. Not the same. I gave 2 stars because the beans and sauce was good and customer service was very good. Unfortunately, I will not return. read more

Not allergy friendly!!! Ordered from here 5/16/26 thru their website. Ordered 2 briskest sandwich platters. One with baked beans, one with horseradish coleslaw. I put on each order seafood allergy. My husband goes to pick it up with one person in line before him and they say it'll be a few minutes. 30 minutes and a handful of walk ins later and they finally fill our order. Half way thru my soggy brisket sandwich and I can't swallow and have an itchy closing throat and sense of impending doom... go into full anaphylactic shock. Thankfully 2 EpiPens and allergy meds and steroids and I lived thru it. I highly suggest you don't go this bbq joint that loves to serve shellfish/ seafood and doesn't seem to care about cross contamination. We will never be back. read more

We have been going to Curt's for over 10 years and have always had good service and great food. The last few visits have not been good. Yes, the service is still great, but the chicken (which is what I normally get) has been VERY dry and chewy (overcooked). We were there Saturday, and the chicken was the same. My husband gets the Brisket and says it's good, but very fatty. So, maybe it's just the chicken. Just wanted to say that Curt's has changed. read more

First they got the order wrong - gave us a small instead of a large, so one pizza got cold while waiting for the second to be made. That pizza was burnt, too. Then there were 9 small pieces of sausage on our large Supreme pizza. staff is young and looked stressed and overworked. read more

If you're ever in Mill Hall, you MUST stop by Curt's Smokin' Ribs! (It's about 40 mins from State College, give or take). You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The wood fired pizza is my favorite and they have gluten free!! But we didn't get pizza this time, unfortunately. Pictured here is the BBQ Trio, with Boneless Ribs and Pulled Chicken, and I substituted the Pulled Pork with Brisket. The sides are potato salad and sweet potato fries (with cinnamon sugar) . We also got a half chicken and half rack combo with horseradish coleslaw and smoked baked beans. We drove about 10 minutes to Bald Eagle State Park to eat; the view of the lake paired with the food was amazing. The food and service was 11/10 as always. You won't regret stopping! Quite disappointing for BBQ. My expectations were definitely set too high after seeing the 4.5 star rating on Yelp. I forget that in smaller towns, I need to subtract at least a star when compared to larger metros. If there's no other BBQ around, this will scratch the itch. I had the mac n cheese with pulled pork, and I got the BBQ sauce on the side based on reviews that it can be quite saucy otherwise. It was SO good! We had a big order for a Halloween party and we use to love curts pizza. We ordered 3 lg cheese and pepperoni pizza , lg potatoe salad and a total of 80 boneless wings. The wings tasted alright but that as far as it goes. The girl could not take card over the phone but that wasn't a big issue it was the food itself. The potatoe salad was bland and unpleasant. The pizza was absolutely terrible. It looked good but my God the taste was nasty. First off I don't know how they cooked it but this definitely was not the curt's wood fired pizza we remembered. The pizza also had a rancid mildew and musty taste to them. Over 47 plus dollars wasted. Probably never going back if this is the new norm.. pray we don't get sick. read more

We have gone here for the tastiest pulled pork and fresh hot rolls anywhere around here several times and recently ordered their pizza that is cooked in a wood fired brick oven! Curt's is an essential lunch and dinner spot for central PA. When I was a student at LHU, Curt's was my favorite spot for comfort food at a reasonable price. I frequently dined in (either at the few tables indoors or at the picnic area outside) and ordered takeout - both methods were consistently excellent. The pulled pork is my absolute favorite along with the weekly fry specials, which are posted on their website early each week. The poutine is especially good because it's made with their savory brisket gravy. I'm drooling just thinking about it! If you're not in the mood for brisket or pork, Curt's also makes some killer wings (try the chipanero ranch if you're in the mood for something spicy). Amazing ribs, wings, they just do all meats well. The staff is amazing here! You can see how busy they get and they still have their masks on in that heat, still friendly and so nice. They do tend to drown their ribs and brisket in sauce so I'd prefer getting the sauce on the side. read more

Stopped for 2 macaroni and cheese from the bulk food menu which is served in a rectangular box which was specifically told to the counter person, paid, wiat, wait, wait, and wait some more. No food coming out from the back, just a guy standing there not moving. Wait some more and then ask what is going on only to now be handed 2 LARGE mac and cheese that are wrong. Back they go. Observe more of the kitchen guy standing there not doing anything but constantly moving his dreadlocks out of his face so no hair covering, but he was wearing gloves to do it. Finally, the counter girl, went to the back and scooped them herself. 20 minutes later and 2 mac and cheese go out the door! Seriously? Curt's is one of those gems in the Lock Haven area that can out-class the best of the big cities. I have yet to find another brisket that is as good as Curt's smoked brisket. And the rest of the food and sides are made fresh, and quality is given at a reasonable price. Even the new pizza is great here, especially considering that it's a barbecue restaurant. My wife grew up in Mill Hall and her family still lives there so we get up to the area every couple months or so. Curt's is always on our list of must visit places every time we come. Curt's is not the best barbecue I have ever had, but it is a worthy substitute if you don't want to drive to NC, Kansas City, or Texas. I have never had the pizza or wings, but my extended family tell me both of them are excellent. Since I don't visit often and am not in town for long - I don't want to waste my visit on non-barbecue items. I have had the brisker, pulled pork, and ribs and they are all very good. Get some extra sauce on the side. The side dishes are only average so don't waste much stomach room on them - this is strictly a protein fueled experience. Limited seating inside so to-go is probably your best bet. Take the 10 minute detour off I-80 and check out Curt's. read more

I'm a Texas bbq guy. Great people great atmosphere but all the bbq was crazy over cooked and dry. Brisket was sliced paper thin. I couldn't get it down without sauce and I don't believe good brisket should need sauce. Ribs had zero tug to them they just fell off the bone. Good flavor but just really over cooked. Service is crazy friendly. Really good people here. But for me just not my style of bbq. read more

I opted for the combo (chicken/pulled pork/ribs) and the ribs were above and beyond the best of the three. Sadly the PP was bland with the exception of the sauce (bit too sweet but good) The chicken was tender and tasty but it couldn't overcome the draw of the ribs The sides were good but nothing earth shattering -- The beans were tasty, with some nice smoke. The Mac and cheese was OK -- The Cole slaw was good -- nice vinegar and finely chopped. My advice -- skip everything else and go all in on the ribs! read more
