I was so excited to hear that Five guys was coming to Iowa! When I go to big cities, I love eating at this place. I went on Election night when it just opened and it was so packed. I waited about an hour for food. When I was close to the cashier, I realized that you can order online. When I did that, it was nice to be able to do that and just go to the pick-up area. Next time I go, I may do that option if the line is super long. Five Guys is in a great location by Jordan Creek Mall and the West Glen Area. High on traffic definitely. My family and I got a couple burgers, fries, and a shake. All were delicious! Burgers were super juicy and delicious like I remember. My only complaint is that they forgot to give me the Hot dog I ordered which I'm guessing is due to the opening week, but I hope they don't do it again. I highly recommend this place! read more

This was my first trip to Five Guys Burgers & Fries. I have heard a lot of good things about this place since they came to Central Iowa and since we were close and a burger sounded good, we went to their WDM location just off of Mills Civic Parkway. They were, as expected, packed on a Sunday afternoon just after 1 pm. I normally steer clear of fast food places in general but this actually sounded really good today. Five Guys has won a lot of awards, but in our opinion, it's just kind of average. The menu is simple, easy to use and easy to order. Everything is made fresh, supposedly (except for the canned mushrooms). Upon walking in you see huge bags of Idaho potatoes just setting out. Not a fan of that because it takes up a lot of space that could be utilized for something else, such as spreading out the cramped seating just a bit more... it's pretty tight in there. I do like the idea of giving your customers a basket of peanuts while you wait. The burgers were good, nice and fresh as advertised and the fries were crispy, hot and pretty tasty. I enjoyed being able to have my burger made to my specifications and having some fun options for toppings (like fresh jalapeno and A-1 sauce). However, for the prices, they should be giving you a higher quality bun and a little more meat. The burgers are not cheap and for fast food the prices are quite steep. The three of us combined had a total of $37, which is a little on the high side for three people eating burgers. I like the concept and the burger is decent, but there wasn't anything overly memorable about our dining experience. For almost $9 for a basic cheeseburger (fries and drink seperate - no combos here) I probably wouldn't recommend it, nor would I likely return. read more

GROSSEST BURGERS EVER!! The bun was entirely soggy, gross!! A wet bun? Serious? Can't even get that right. The burger was over cooked, fries were tasteless and cold, place too crowded, prices WAY too high. Never again. Culver's is a way better burger. Seems like they were trying to be an In n' Out copycat, but failed miserably. If what you are gonna do is mostly burgers, you should knock it out of the park or go home. (I rarely give anyone ONE star) but these "guys" deserve it. It's crowded now, but once the newness dies out, this place will also die. Im only giving it 3 stars because both times I've been there it was so chaotically crazy busy that my food wait was longer than my patience can usually handle. The burger was good but not great and the fries both times were undercooked. Until everyone in the Des Moines area has tried this place my guess is it's going to be crazy busy for awhile so maybe after the fad dies down and they aren't super rushed to cook my food. To everyone that complains it is cramped, takes so long to get the food and the quality is bad. The price is for the quality. No offense but I will never eat a McDonald's cheeseburger over a Five Guys burger. If you have never been to a Five Guys, pretty much every single location has the same amount of space inside. So it should be nothing new to anyone. The food takes longer to make because omg they are actually making it and not throwing something in the microwave to heat up for you for $1. I have always been impressed with Five Guys burgers and will always love to eat there. I understand the price but if you want something that actually tastes good, consider it. If you complain it takes too long, they have this amazing cell phone app where you can order your food online and pick it up when you want it. They drop the fries when you get there for freshness. So you shouldn't have to complain about taking so much time :) There are always other options than dining in, for the record. read more

This is got to be the slowest store I've been to. I've eaten at five guys all over California all over Arizona in the Southwest and this one they continue to screw up on my order every single time and I've eaten here 15 times so far.... In California and in Arizona when you asked for a large fry your bag is filled with fries,here in Iowa they put just a little bit extra in your fries so it's sad to see that there's no consistency here in Iowa at the store. read more

Stopped here on the 1st weekend they were open. Not sure if things have improved since then but, I experienced the following: 1. The place is small, with hardly any seating inside. 2. All burgers come with a double patty, unless (apparently) you order the "little" versions. This is NOT something I saw printed on the menu above the cash registers, so be aware. 3. The music was ENTIRELY too loud. I understand 'environment' and 'setting the mood', but the music was much too loud. (No, I'm not 'old' -- I still would have found it loud if I was 20). 4. It cost nearly $40 for 3 people to dine in my group. That's a bit much, for an upscale burger joint. As far as the flavor of the food. It was fresh, I'll grant you that. I have always bee a fan of this franchise and so glad the finally brought one to iowa/Des moines. Today my wife and i went and there was a slight error in our burger. We don't typically complain about simple fixes but because let's be honest these burgers aren't cheep. So we politely let them know. We didn't ask them to remake both burgers but they did and they also gave us a whole new fry! I was very impressed and thankful. We stopped in for lunch on New Years Eve. The line is LONG, so I highly suggest you order online while you are driving to the store to make it go faster. We waited about 30 minutes in total for the whole experience, and took the food home to eat. The prices seem pretty high when you first look at them compared to other fast food burger joints, but after tasting the burger, I can completely see why. My husband ordered a bacon burger with mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions. The burger was delicious, and the bacon was the best fast food bacon I've ever tasted on a burger. I ordered a cheeseburger with mayo, lettuce, and tomato, and it was juicy and tender. I love that they grill their buns a little, so nothing was soggy and it held together nicely. They are also two patty burgers, and are quite large. If you still feel like the burger doesn't justify the price, I dare you to do a side-by-side comparison of a Five Guys burger and any other fast food burger. I bet the Five Guys will win every single time. Their fries are okay. We tried the original and the cajun. They are honestly nothing too special. I'm in the business of finding great people for great companies, and I understand how hard it is to find the right people to portray your brand. I fell in love with this place on a whim visit in Omaha. Their burgers are always juicey and the fries are made from real potatoes. They even highlight the city and state they come from. Huge sizes, there are enough that two can share a small order. Being the only one in DeMo one would think they would have made this place a little bigger. On both of my visits it was a mad house inside. People waiting inline outside just to order. The thing that impresses me the most is you get on your burger what you want, just like at home. I've never been a huge fan of ketchup on anything and you don't get it here unless you ask for it. I really love a great vegetable burger lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and mustard. Onions are grilled or raw. I've always liked it this way and they aim to please. It's really kinda nice in this day and age that they have peanuts in the shell to snack on while you wait for your meal. Keep in mind this is not fast food, but good food served fast food style. I don't think you could order a better burger at any other chain restaurant or get a better burger at a sit down restaurant. Definitely worth the wait and you will wait, up to 15 minutes on a good day. The one big draw back of this spot is the extremely loud music. I love music and I love loud music, but with all the people in the place, the cooks frying burgers, and the guy calling out your order pick ups it's just to loud to really enjoy the music. I am writing this review based off what this place is. It is a burger and fry joint and it is excellent. Burgers patties are thin, and they come with 2 patties unless you get a small. There is an endless array of custom options for your burger and you can get it done exactly the way you like it. Fries are probably my favorite part of 5 guys. Love them with malt vinegar!! The burgers are great, and you can get them keto style without the bun and skip the fries. Yes, I am that dedicated to carb avoidance. On the plus side, peanuts are a good option. It seems a little pricey for a burger, but everything costs more these days even trips to fast food restaurants. The major downside of Five Guys is the horrible ear-splitting music. Not a crowded place but every other customer also waited as long if not longer. Chain of production nonexistent. I'm a burger girl and I love these burgers. The fries are good to but I don't go here for the fries. The cheese ratio to burger and bun is perfect. The downside is how long it took us to get our food. My son ordered a grilled cheese and it took 15 minutes to get our order. They told me they were waiting on the grilled cheese and I know it doesn't take that long to make one. They also clearly need more seating inside because it is not big enough and there's always people waiting to snatch up a table. Food is good but a little over priced for my go-to. read more

I am not even going to lie. My expectations weren't high when I walked into the franchise. I walked in door and the smell of French fries hit me. I thought o lord I am about to get the worlds most busting meal ever. Then I ordered and it was expensive, but was optimistic. It was very expensive. I was just imagining how good it was going to be while waiting for my food but I just kept waiting. Then I was suddenly being yelled at by this women that looks like she exclusively shops at Walmart. She couldn't stop talking the entire time and she directed her wrath to me when my food was ready making me extremely uncomfortable. I got my food and was immediately distressed. None of my fries were in the fry bag and my shake was sub par. The fries tasted like my mom cooked them in a half broken air frier. Nothing brought me joy at this establishment except for the satisfaction of not tipping the staff. This is a disgrace to the food community. You can't even call it fast. It was 5 star prices for 1 star service and food. I will be going back because it was a horrible experience. read more

Located on Mills Civic, 5 guys specializes in burgers and the usual accompaniments (fries, shakes, etc.). I ordered the "regular" burger that comprises 2 thin patties and a sesame bun. You then order it with your choice of various toppings. While the burger is somewhat ordinary the real gem are the fries. These fries are old school baking spuds with skin-on. We love Five Guys but have been disappointed both times we gave this location a chance. Today they missed toppings on my hamburger, said they would bring the extra topping out instead of making a new one and never did. We also couldn't eat the fries as they were orange from way too much of the salt seasoning. Their excuse was they weren't trained but didn't offer to make anything right. Love that the Ankeny location offers bags of peanuts during COVID...nice touch and will only visit there in the future. Staff isn't rude and they are trained there! read more

Have enjoyed Five Guys in other parts of the country and was glad to see them show up in Des Moines. But their location is too small to accommodate many dine in patrons, so have a Plan B if you are not planning on take out. Not sure why they chose such a small location as most others we have been to could seat far more people. The food was good as expected, but is very much on the expensive side for burgers, hot dogs, and fries. That, combined with the lack of seating, are two things that will discourage us from making it a point to go back. Order online for curbside delivery. Arrived at time online said would be ready. Called number as directed...no answer. Called for 5 minutes. Then walked into store for pickup. Was told they had no idea where it was. After 20 minutes still not ready. Finally, was told they were just dropping the fries down for the order. Finally, after 25 minutes from original time of curbside, we received food that we had to go inside to get. Once back to hotel discovered not only did we not get our entire order, but food was cold. Called the location and spoke to manager who was not only less than apologetic was very rude. read more
