a hamburger wrapped in aluminum foil

Mcdonald's does better. This isn't the first time the burgers look like this either. It's very evident the people there do not care about quality at all.

The Big Burger with bacon and about 1/100th of the fries we received with the meal.

So I have been reading about this place throughout all of Yelpdom and being dizzy with the across the board reviews from good to bad. I knew I had to try it for myself and had been meaning to for a while but today an opportunity opened up to try them and myself and a co-worker did. I was prepared for the sticker shock, I was prepared for the Mohammed Ali levels of self hype plastered throughout the restaurant, I was ready to see if it really was the In N Out of the east (although I know they make no claims about being an In N Out knock-off, I am talking cult following). In we went to a moderate little line that moved very quickly, about 5ive people in front of us. It was welcomed as it gave me time to scan the menu, which you'd think wouldn't take long since they serve about five things, really, but it was nice to plan out my toppings ahead of time and munch on a few peanuts. I'm used to the peanut thing because of a wonderful restaurant in So Cal called Northwoods Inn, so that was actually a nice touch. I ordered a big burger with bacon, cheese, bbq sauce, mayo, lettuce and pickle, large fries (5ive Guys Style) and a large drink. Co-worker, who was doing me a favor at lunch ordered his lunch as well and then I forked over my first born Tax Deduction and mortgaged my house to pay for it. Ok, maybe it wasn't that expensive but I am by nature cheap (i.e. Jewish) so $10 each for lunch takes a little getting used to. We went to get drinks and it was a nice surprise to see a truly vast selection of drink options. One of my pet peeves is that fast food chains really can afford to offer more variety, especially of diet type drinks. Before long they called our number and I was handed a big brown paper bag, I was about to mention that we wanted to eat it here, but I remembered shortly before making a fool of myself that everything comes in a brown paper bag. We ordered a small and a large fry, and that bag was bloody full of potatoes! There was a big styrofoam cup and a small styrofoam cup (way to go green 5ive Guys!) filled with sliced potato goodness and then whole bottom of the bag was covered in them. Nice. The burger was actually quite excellent. Quality ingredients, cooked well and assembled by a real thinking person instead of looking like someone closed my burger box and shook it in a paint mixer like at some chains. The fries are everything they were cracked up to be too. I guess every now and then, as a treat, I would come back here and fork over the greenbacks to eat their food, it was that good. Now it won't stand up against a good bar burger like at Slow Bar, but that's not what this place is all about. I can't give them 5ive stars, but I can say that I am a fan.

They get an extra star for (finally) serving milkshakes. Yay! Since my original review in 2009, this became one son's favorite burger spot in town, so we've become relatively frequent visitors. But, it still isn't my happy place. On our most recent visit my other son wore his In-N-Out t-shirt as his goofy form of protest. He may take after his mother.

That's about 1/4 of the fries you get.

It gives old school drive in vibes and the prices are pretty reasonable. Our service was good and the food came out fairly quickly. We sat inside and they brought the order to our table. As far as food, I don't think there was anything bad about it, but I also don't know if there is anything special about it either. Overall would come back if I was in the area, but don't think I would go out of my way for it.

Yesterday I stopped in with my daughter and her best friend for Sunday lunch before a movie. We ordered three burger baskets and three milkshakes, and the bill was nearly $60, which is about what I'd expect these days. At that price, though, I also expect accuracy. Ordering wasn't complicated, yet we stood at the register for around 10 minutes while the cashier struggled to enter the order. The only customization on my burger was a double cheeseburger with two slices of American cheese on each patty (four slices total), bacon, and extra vegetables. I've had problems here before with them substituting cheddar instead of American cheese, and unfortunately it happened again. When my burger arrived, it had only one slice of cheese and the extra vegetables were missing. The bun was barely toasted and appeared to have been run through a conveyor toaster instead of being grilled on the flat top. The fries were ordinary frozen fries, and the tater tots weren't anything memorable either. To be fair, they have improved one thing over the years by switching to fresh beef, and that's a noticeable step up. The burger has the potential to be very good if the kitchen paid closer attention to the details. Since we were hungry and on our way to a movie, I didn't ask for the burger to be remade. I simply showed it to the employee at the counter and explained that it wasn't what I ordered. She asked if I wanted it remade, but because we were short on time I asked if they could instead provide a gift card for a future visit. After we finished eating, she told me she'd spoken with the manager, who was working the grill. Their solution was to offer me a $1 gift card. A one-dollar gesture on a nearly $60 order after serving the wrong burger doesn't communicate that customer satisfaction matters. Mistakes happen. What keeps customers coming back is how those mistakes are handled. I genuinely want to support local businesses, but after repeatedly receiving the wrong cheese on my burger and then being offered a $1 gift card to make it right, I left disappointed. I hope management focuses not only on food quality but also on order accuracy and customer service. I'm not suggesting that people shouldn't go to Mike's. This is an attempt to help them improve their business and the experience that I have next time. Thanks for listening.

They rearranged upstairs adding another pool table and some lounge couches. They have pushed all the tables and chairs against one shorter wall, in a line making it tight quarters and forcing you to sit next to strangers. There is no elbow room. It wasn't busy up there so I tried not to be bothered with this. Our waitress greeted us immediately. Brought our waters, menus and checked on us 3-4 times. She was great. Our food was NOT great let alone, ok! I ordered the shrimp scampi/risotto dish. It came with a side of garlic bread. My husband ordered the lemon capered chicken and my daughter the smash burger. My food and my husband's food tasted like I was eating CREAM OF SALT with garlic and the bread was even more salty. He was starving and just ate it, I only got through about half. It was so salty. My daughter said her burger was dry and tasted weird. She didn't finish it. Her fries were good. We didn't complain. We were hungry and uncomfortable being squished up like that. I just wanted to be done with the whole experience. I won't say that I'll never be back. I understand that chefs and restaurants staff are human and mistake like over salting a dish can happen. Prior to this past weekend, hadn't had a problem with food, staff or seating. However, I do hope someone in management/ownership sees my review so improvements/changes can be made. Not only with the dishes that are being served to paying customers but the seating arrangements upstairs. Those tables and chairs are far too squished together.

Verdict Bar & Grill in Oregon City is a really cool whiskey bar with a speakeasy-style atmosphere,…read moregreat drinks, and seriously impressive bartenders. I stopped in recently to pick up a to-go order and ended up sitting at the bar for a drink while I waited. I was greeted right away when I sat down and given a food menu. The place was completely slammed, but the two bartenders were absolutely dialed in. They were mixing signature cocktails, pouring wine, draft beer, and spirits nonstop while still checking in with guests. Watching them work was impressive -- the focus and efficiency looked more like professional mixologists than typical bartenders. The space itself has a great vibe. You enter from the 8th Street door and it feels like stepping into a hidden basement speakeasy. The interior is dimly lit with a huge illuminated whiskey wall. The bar is centered in the room with booths along the outside, making it a really cool date-night spot. While waiting for my food I ordered a Fort George City of Dreams Hazy IPA, which was cold and fantastic. As soon as I saw the cocktail menu though, I immediately regretted not ordering one of their house drinks -- the 8th Street Margarita looked especially good. I also noticed that all the whiskey drinks coming out had these beautiful crystal-clear 3" ice cubes, which is a great touch and shows they take their cocktails seriously. I originally came in because I've been ordering the Buffalo Mac & Cheese from their food cart about once a month for the last few years. Their Oregon City cart recently closed, so this was my first time getting it from the bar. My to-go order took about 30 minutes, which was totally understandable given how busy the place was. The staff stayed friendly and attentive the whole time. The Buffalo Mac & Cheese was still very tasty. The macaroni was great with a creamy cheese sauce and good buffalo flavor throughout. The chicken tasted like it may have been frozen at some point and was a little chewy compared to the crunchier chicken I remember from the food cart version, but overall the dish was still really good and something I'll definitely order again. Great atmosphere, skilled bartenders, solid food, and a really unique whiskey-bar vibe in Oregon City. Next time I come back I'm definitely sitting down and ordering one of those cocktails. Tip: Sit at the bar if you can -- watching the bartenders craft the drinks is half the experience.
