Came here based on the Yelp reviews and proximity to where I had a business meeting. It is everything the good reviews say. Old style campy 70's supper club decor. A mix of patrons, from suits to jeans. Good drinks and great steaks. Made a reservation for an Aug, Tues online which initially failed and reserved me for November. Sent an email to reconfirm and make sure Nov was cancelled and they responded with both an email and phone call. Probably don't need a reservation for days like that in the week but wasn't taking chances. They have a clear system they use. You come in, go to the bar to order a drink or several. Waitress shows up, introduces herself and hands out the menu. Comes back asks if ready and any questions. If you are ready then the table will be set in 5 minutes for you, if not then have another drink. I was ordering Manhattans, asked for Knob and you simply MUST get the Bleu Cheese stuffed olives. On the 2nd drink I asked for a couple more. A top shelf is not cheap there $10 a drink but they have a decent selection. Some on here complained about the bartender and I found him great. Didn't talk to much and did listen and talk when you spoke with him. They expect you to pay for drinks at the bar and not combined with your dinner tab. We each ordered the fillet and an asparagus side. Was considering the potato which is huge, like a small nerf football, enough for two people easily but passed. Dinner comes with a salad and relish tray with your choice of dressing. Simple, serve yourself out of the bowl on your table. Bread was good and the waitress recommended it with the honey on the table. Tried the honey and bread and it was OK nothing special. Steaks came out perfect, nice char, delicious au jus and great button mushrooms. Steaks were ordered med rare and med and cooked properly.Only complaint would be they could have put a few more mushrooms on the plate. There was no room for dessert. All in all a great night. It is on the edge of four $ and easily so if you include the drink tab. I would think on a weekend the room could be quite loud from conversation and the seating is a little tight. The Five O'Clock Steakhouse definitely serves the best steaks around. I don't award 5 stars to a place unless it is INSANE and this certainly qualifies. The filet Oscar (topped with Crab meat and Bernaise) that I had was the BEST filet I've ever eaten. I've never had a more tender or buttery steak. It was absolutely perfect. The crab meat and the bernaise was an added bonus, but honestly the steak was so good, I wanted it all by itself. Their Caesar dressing is very good too! The atmosphere at the Five O'Clock Club is definitely retro. The decor is dated but it definitely fits the retro supper club bill. It is in no way trendy but not in a negative way. It is a relaxed and very laid back place. It is not meant to be a place where you go to quickly eat and run. It is a dining experience meant to be savoured and it is very worth it. 5 stars all around. read more

Everybody on yelp kept raving about how this was the best steak they ever had. Although it was good it's definitely not the best I've had. It wasn't as tender as some other steaks I've had. It's interesting how they have the steak swimming in a pool of sauce with mushrooms. It gives the steak a nice mushroomy taste :p But I'm from the land of steaks: Chicago. Ok, first off, I love steak, so whether we're talking Applebee's or Outback, I'm pretty much happy as long as a medium rare steak is on my plate! However, this place takes my love of red meat to a whole new level! It's not only the food--its the ambiance. Located on State Street on the "rough" side of town, it's not exactly the area you'd expect fine dining. But it's one of those old neighborhoods that you know used to be thriving, and this restaurant is a throwback to a better time. You park your car in the lot, and even though it's not the best side of town, you know the "attendant" will take car of it. Then you step inside, and it's like stepping back in time. With Christmas lights and gaudy decor, it's much more welcoming than any fine steak house with modern art on the walls and a stale feeling. Speaking of old fashioned, you'll likely have to wait a couple minutes for your seat (especially if you don't have a reservation), so step up to the bar and order an old fashion. The salad with homemade dressings and relish tray was delicious Now to the steak, very tender and cooked to perfection. We had a surf and turf where the shrimp were as big as lobster tails, and tender and delicious. Our server Suzanne was so nice and kept the meal flowing. I definitely want to go back again and again. Kicking it old school. Very much like my home town favorite The Pine Club, this place is very old school. Awesome steaks cooked perfectly. Great relish tray. Nothing bad about this unless you're looking for something it's not. Often a choice for business dinners (much more palatable on the corporate card :)) Always a diverse and interesting crowd. Friendly staff and particularly bartenders and thank God they know how to make an excellent martini because what else would you have with a steak. The bar is fantastic. The salad is classic. The sides are tasty. The ribs are a pleasant surprise. The steaks are excellent. We have a beef farm in our family. I've been to some of the top steak houses in NYC and Chicago. Their quality of both meat and preparation is as good as any I've experienced. We had 9 and they were most attentive. If you have a big enough group I highly recommend the ribs as an appetizer. Ribs before steak may seem counter intuitive but I tell ya, these ribs are not to be missed. What an amazing experience! My wife and I felt like we were on roller skates from the moment we sat at the bar. Wally, the bartender makes the most heavenly drinks. The Old Fashioned's are simply the best I have every had. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the Filet Mignon, and both were perfectly paired with and amazing cab. Both steaks were amazing! I don't get it........... Arrived at 5 to relax and visit before our 530 reservation. By 5:11 we were fending off multiple attempts to move us to our table! I felt totally rushed throughout . Crammed back to back in the dining room. Leftovers shoved into plastic sacks then in a brown bag? For $47 I can get a really good steak , including the $5 potato, and feel relaxed and welcomed. This is a must visit spot for the city of Milwaukee. If you aren't familiar with the Super Club format, you will smarten up real quick. We were greeted by the owner Stelio (sp?) and were sent to the bar to warm up with some cocktails. Bartender Wally took great care of us and made some classic Old Fashioneds. When we were seated, we started off with the relish tray, which was basically some fresh raw vegetables and pickled vegetables. We each ordered the bone in rib eye. Holy crap, best steak I've ever had. I asked for medium rare and that's how it was delivered.The rich au jus underneath the steak took it well over the top in terms of enjoyment. 28 oz of pure heaven. The tiramisu was heavenly as well. The service was top notch, the ambiance was unreal. It was dimly lit and felt like home, if that makes sense. The place was packed, everyone was having fun, but the noise level wasn't too loud. We were in town for my birthday and our shuttle driver recommended 5 O'clock. Being from Chicago, I am accustomed to good steakhouses, and I thought Milwaukee would be able to hold its own - I was wrong. Problems with 5 O'clock: 1.It was so dark my girlfriend and I could barely see each other - let alone our food. 2.We had to order our meal from a packed bar before being sat. 3. There was barely any walking space, so people and servers were constantly hitting each other. My girlfriend was bumped at least three times. 4. My girlfriend's steak, ordered medium, came more red than mine, which was ordered medium rare. 5.I told them it was my birthday and they totally forgot. For the table immediately behind me, they brought ice cream and sang. 6. The to-go box is a plastic bag thrown into a brown paper bag. I order a filet oscar, so you can imagine what that looked like when we got it home. All-in-all, I was very displeased with my experience. Went here with a group of about a dozen for a business dinner. From the moment we walked in and ordered a drink at the bar, I felt a genuine hospitality from the bar tender. This carried over to our wait staff. One waitress in particular--I don't remember her name, but she's been working there for quite a while--interacted with us as if we were her family. She was very friendly, and very genuine. We ordered the slab bacon and cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer and both were delicious. I ordered the Del Monico and crab cakes combo. I always ask for my steak medium, this one was over cooked. I mentioned it to the waitress and she had them grill me another. This one was medium-rare, and it also didn't have most of the mushrooms on the plate as it did the first time around, but since I'm not crazy about button mushrooms, I didn't mind. I decided to minimize my fuss and not say anything, but when she walked over and asked about it this time around, I was honest. She happily suggested that they cook it a little further and then I thought to myself and affirmed "a renowned steak house needs to be held accountable for a ~$50 steak", so they cooked it a bit more and it came out perfect. The crab cakes were pretty good. A good balance of lump crab with savory stuffing. I would have liked it more on the lump crab side, and they were not amazing, but they were fine. I finished my delicious local Spotted Cow beer and had a desire for a glass of red wine. I ordered the Brancai "Tre" Toscana, which is a wine I've never had, nor heard of before, though gave it a shot because I've had many great Tuscan wines. It was fantastic! I don't quite remember its characteristics, save that it had an intriguing complex flavor and scent. Towards the end of the meal, despite being stuffed to the gills, and as I always look at a dessert menu, I fell for the cheesecake. I only ordered it because I'd share it with a coworker. I live in NYC and have had countless amazing NY style cheesecakes, though have to say that perhaps because Wisconsin is renowned for their cheddar, and thus great dairy, this cheesecake had a very creamy texture, with a slightly pungent sharp taste and was EXCELLENT! I wished that I had it all to myself and was a bit upset that I dos not have the last bite for myself. ;-) All in all, despite the experience not being without flaw, considering our party size of about a dozen, this is a great place and I'd certainly go back for another round. We then went to Koz's Mini Bowl, which was surreal to me! I'll save that for another review. :-) read more

Disclaimer: I didn't always know about supper clubs. I never heard of a supper club until marrying my Midwestern Ginger Bear. I have experienced supper clubs since marrying him.... and this is by far one of my favorites (if not the favorite) It is in a sketchy part of town. I feel like this is a requirement for all city supper clubs (rural supper clubs are different). There is order. There is a plan. You cannot waiver from it. We arrived very early and without reservations. They were slightly irritated, but they understood that we are out of town guests and we don't know what we are doing. Immediately, they seat you at the bar (Brandy Old Fashioned- please). They make the best Brandy Old Fashioned that you have ever had (Wisconsin people- are you aware that the rest of the country is not into Brandy?). You will love this drink so much that you will order another one- even though you promised yourself that you will only have 1 before dinner drink due to being in the sketch neighborhood. Have the second drink- it is okay. You have to order at the bar. The waitress will come with the menu. It was all very confusing to me. I ended up with some steak Oscar thing. Trust me- order it. It was incredible. The waitress was helpful. Eventually, they sat us at our table with the giant salad and bread. The room is dark and lit with red light. It has a good energy. You don't worry about the wrinkles on your forehead in this light. The food is amazing. Delicious. The prices are high. It is worth it though. It isn't like you are eating at supper clubs every week (or are you?). The weird thing...and I don't think I can possibly explain this well in a review. They don't have a hostess who does proper seating. The waitresses essentially are sharks who throw these numbered cards on your tables hoping to have that table once it is opened. This creates a lot of competitive energy. It is awkward. Is this normal for a supper club? The minute you walk into this place you feel like you've walked into the 70's. The ambiance and decor takes you way back. You have to embrace the decor because its what makes this restaurant so unique. I had the Land and Sea dish. I will say that they char their steaks a little. Nothing wrong with this, but just thought I should mention. I asked for my meat to be cooked medium rare. I got it a little more cooked than I expected. They do not have steak sauce. I enjoy eating my steaks with sauce. The Lobster Mac n cheese is wonderful and made with a variety of cheeses. You have to check out this restaurant. I'll be returning. read more

Wow, what an amazing steak house experience. The atmosphere is so classic and unique. I love how they create a social feel with having you order at the bar before sitting at a table. I have been here several times a year for the last decade but after my last visit I'm going to really think about it, the restaurant was warmer than usual and fruit flies on my table, on my appetizers on a mirror next to my booth it was DISGUSTING!!! We have been to many steakhouses and this place ranks right up there in quality and service. Very systematically you get escorted to the bar, settle tab and then moved to your table. Awaiting your arrival at the table is family style salad with your pre-ordered dressing (waitress met us in bar). The choices are plentiful and all a la carte. The ribeye, filet and prime rib were cooked to perfection and garnished with mushrooms. We recommend the crab cheesey macaroni as a side. Enjoy! read more

5 Star food with 2 star service. You will not find another steakhouse quite like this one. We had the filet and porterhouse. Even the ranch dressing was amazing in flavor! My wife and I had a 7pm reservation on a Saturday night. So, I expected the joint to be busy. It was. We were seated at 8pm. As though our time isn't as valuable as the folks operating this restaurant. There is no one at the door to greet, check in with, or direct you where to go. I had to search for someone. The worst part was seeing this clip board wielding woman looking for my name on the pencil written list of reservations, which she did not find despite using OpenTable to create the reservation. We sat at the bar watching people walk in being given a menu to order. The group sitting next to us came 30 minutes after us and yet were seated and served first. Eventually, we were seated in a cramped area next to the door between the dining area and kitchen. Nothing like getting your shoulder and elbow bumped into every 2 seconds while eating.......I got my $125 worth of it anyway..... The place is dingy and in need of a makeover. Don't use the rest room. You will regret it. You too will discover how flawed and outdated this establishments seating and reservation process is. Overall, I would recommend eating here once. Carnivore smokes this place like an old stogey in overall atmosphere and food quality. read more

If you are in for a Wisconsin steak experience - this is the place to be - Very generous plates - amazing food. They even have their own honey jar for each table. The steak - appetizers and all is very tasty - one of the unique experience especially for tourists. The decor reminded me of restaurants in the early American movies - It is dark - very dark - you order your food in the bar then they walk you to your table. Wonderful place to enjoy a quality steak within an atmosphere that has long since disappeared. The staff works hard, especially the ladies upstairs. Go up and enjoy your movie. They have a small area setup for a little band and a large screen (they were showing Casablanca while we were dining). Now I am a Blue cheese kind of guy, also french and russian, I don't like ranch to often, OMG!! That was the absolute BEST ranch dressing I have had on 5 Continents!! Mains: My son had Ribs (He ate them all) My wife enjoyed ribeye and crab cakes, and I had a huge porterhouse. Great steaks, bar none. I had not one single piece of gristle, perfect medium cooked to perfection. Button mushrooms, and a huge baked potato. I would come back in a heartbeat. I would greatly recommend this restaurant. I met the owners son, and his mom, and was told his uncle makes the Ranch dressing fresh everyday. It shows, extremely high quality, EVERYONE there looked happy, pleased and content. I can't believe I've never been to this place before. We had a party of 3 and 2 of us ordered the porterhouse and one ordered the filet. All 3 left more than satisfied. French onion soup was fantastic. Very very reasonable prices for everything, their ice cream drinks looked delicious. They char their steaks in a 1800° oven. We all got medium rare and they were cooked perfect. On their menu, it states "not responsible for medium-well steaks-we do not cook steaks well-done". It's a strange setup at first - you check in and then you sit at the bar. Your waitress comes up and takes your order while at the bar, and then they take you to your table when it's available. We came at 7:45 on a Saturday night and it was packed. Not in the best neighborhood, but they do offer complimentary valet. It was a great dinner, I will most definitely be back. read more

I've lived in Milwaukee 6 years and have been dying to try this place, but the timing never worked out. Wish I hadn't waited so long. This place is INCREDIBLE. Old school supper club vibe with the best food i've had in Milwaukee. Started us at the bar while they set up our table. Glass of wine, old fashioned, and the friendliest knowledgeable bartender. Zarije greeted us, told us everything we needed to know about the restaurant and menu, took our order (Filet and Salmon) and walked us to a cozy corner booth with salad and fresh bread. Great ambiance, exciting music at just the right noise level, and absolutely incredible service from Zarije. She made us feel special with just the right about of attention for everything we need while also having our private time. Food was absolutely amazing. Steak cooked just right and portions were huge. We ended the night with plenty of leftovers, another round of drinks and slice of delicious key lime pie made in house. We declared this as our new official spot for all celebrations and each anniversary moving forward. Hoping Zarije will still be there to celebrate with us next year as well! This is a second location of what I understand is a somewhat legendary steakhouse in Milwaukee. The original has been in business since 1948. (!!!) This one has been open about a year, in a space that's sort of in a no-man's land between Barrington and Cary/Crystal Lake. The space has housed many restaurants over the years. The decor is quite traditional, as are the menu offerings - standard steakhouse fare, priced commensurate with other nice steakhouses in the area. Our experience was mixed - 2 of the 4 steaks were not cooked as ordered, Scampi entree was a pretty small portion considering the price, drinks were so-so, and the white wine we ordered was served at room temperature (mid-70s). These and other small slips keeps me from giving the one more star it might deserve if all went well. All-in-all, it's worth a try, and we'll go back at some point to give them a second chance. read more

I was looking for a good restaurant to treat myself while I was in Milwaukee and from reading these reviews I decided I had to try this place out. Going in, you wouldn't really believe this could be the best steakhouse you have ever been too but by the time your'e leaving with a full stomach you will ATLEAST be considering it as one of the best. The decor is old-fashioned but i have always been a fan of speakeasy-like places and I felt like I was in a time machine enjoying every second of it. The ordering at the bar was a new experience for me but it worked out great. Nothing like sitting down at a table with a drink and hand and food on the table ready to be eaten. Delicious salad! I am very picky about eating salads and have to say I wish i could have one like that every day. I ordered the Rib Eye and never felt so much like getting my money's worth for a steak by the time I finished it. It was cooked just how i ordered it (Medium Rare), had great flavor and is still making me salivate just typing this review up days later.
