Milwaukee Steakhouse is a surprising little gem tucked away in Wauwatosa. From the outside, the building is far from impressive--it looks more like a brick doctor's office than a place you'd expect to enjoy a memorable meal. Unfortunately, first impressions don't improve much when you walk in. The interior is very basic: simple tables, white walls with little to no décor, and a modest hostess stand. The one standout is the beautiful old-school wooden bar, though you won't notice it from the front door, so be sure to wander back and check it out. What this place lacks in aesthetics, it more than makes up for in service and food. The service was fantastic from start to finish. Our bartender was friendly and attentive, and our waitress was fun, energetic, and genuinely engaging. She checked in on us often and made sure we were completely satisfied with our meals--we truly enjoyed her company during our visit. The food was the real star of the show. Took my dad for dinner on Father's Day to the Milwaukee Steakhouse and it's great to see them so busy. Good thing we had reservations otherwise you wouldn't have gotten a table. I decided on the ribs and they were not fatty at all. I couldn't believe how many they give you, so I have a great lunch to look forward tomorrow. My dad got the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. I don't discriminate so I will eat from a cheap truck/cart to an expensive steak house and everything in between. Many people have suggested the Milwaukee steakhouse so I stopped by for dinner. The place is nice but not fancy and just right to be an everyone's place with nice booth and tables. IT's ambience is dim lighting, light color walls, bright colored art and candle style lights on each table. You get black tablecloth, cloth napkins with heavy quality silverware, it's the right amount of elegance that doesn't intimidate someone who may not regularly go to nice restaurants. The service was excellent with at least 4 people taking care of me including my main server, a young man noticed my plate of ribs and brought me a 2nd napkin/silverware rig with the comment of the ribs are messy and you will need the extra napkin, how's that an eye for detail. My server asked if I needed more time with the menu and I said I'm going all out so I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs, baked French onion soup, 16 oz dry aged Kansas bone in strip steak rare and the Parmesan mashed potatoes with brown gravy. You are started with a little relish tray with green olives, black olives, carrots, pickles, green onions, peppers and radishes. A fresh French bread style roll with butter, the roll was perfect with a thin crisp crust and a fresh soft center. The 1/2 rack rib appetizer was good with moist soft fall off the bone tender meat which is typical restaurant ribs and not in any way a real smoked ribs but still good and I wasn't expecting Kansas City bbq. The French baked onion soup was probably the smallest portion I have ever had especially for the up charge. My first thought was that this is tasty but mostly broth and I would have liked more onion's because it had the least amount onions compared to other offerings that I have had. The Parmesan mashed potatoes with gravy was bland and not seasoned,on the loose side and the gravy made them very soupy. I didn't get any Parmesan flavor like say you top a pizza with Parmesan cheese and it was more like regular mashed potatoes. The 16 oz chard dry aged Kansas bone in strip steak was the star and cooked perfect rare with aju and mushrooms that looked amazing. My first bite was like OMG how tasty with that flavorful fat in the bite. The steak was probably the most cooked perfect steak with melt in your mouth char flavor meat. One of my favorite steakhouses in Milwaukee County! Reservations can usually be found easily. While this may not have the old school aesthetic some may require, the food & service make up for it. We were celebrating a birthday, so we went all out. Love the complimentary relish tray & bread basket. We got the French onion soup to start-salty, umami, cheesy goodness. The special was a prime 7oz cut filet-made to medium rare perfection along with a loaded baked potato. We also got the creamed spinach to share which is hard to find! My shrimp fettuccine was great! My friend's prime rib was a bit too rare and had gristle. My side salad was incredibly basic which surprised me given the prices. I figure for over $40 I might get arugula? The pecan pie had little to no flavor and such a thick crust it was hard to break off for a bite. The service was very friendly! I was surprised by the decor---once again, given the prices--I would think that they could afford paintings or decorations that didn't look like it was a Chili's or cheesecake factory. Everything! This was the worst steakhouse I have ever been to in my life. And I'm older & have been to many throughout our country. Outback is way better than this old outdated, dingy, overpriced restaurant. I ordered a Filet Medium Rare. The outside was soooo charred & bland. The only thing you could taste was the over salted piece of meat. Presentation was lacking. My Filet came on a very small side plate with 5 mushrooms. I ordered a side of pilaf rice & got Minute Maid white rice that had absolutely no flavor. I could have bought the 90 sec microwave rice & it would have been more moist & flavorful. The salad was as generic as they come. Plain bland lettuce w a huge chunk of a tomato & 3 cucumbers of which neither were ripe. The dressing was from a generic huge canister that the Golden Corral uses for their salad bar. My other half had the ribeye & it had an immense amount of fat on it. In Addition to be over aggressively charred, too! When you have to dispose of pieces of meat into a napkin because it is gross to finish eating- there's an issue. He did order the Brussels sprout & they were ok. This entity should never be list as a place to eat steaks in Milwaukee. It is extremely overpriced for everything. We eat out every weekend & thought we would try this place. Worst decision & warn others not to go. We paid $150 for 2 pieces of charred over salted fatty steaks, in a 2 bit outdated bad restaurant. This is our second NYE at Milwaukee Steakhouse. We went three years back and it was amazing. We were sat in the same area this time which was great because we like lively crowds, so at a table in the bar area. Unfortunately, our experience was not as great as the first. The two tables next to us each had a different server than us. And I noticed they were incredibly attentive to their guests. Not so much with our gentleman server who couldn't seem to keep up and really could care less about us. I was SO disappointed. I DO understand that it's New Years but if the other servers can provide great service and be attentive and work the other dining room, so can he. Also, we arrived early at 6pm and it wasn't that busy, at that time. As time passed it did get busier. However, we waited about 35 min with empty drinks and he realized he forgot to serve them to us, then brought them with our food. Never apologized for the wait. Kind of snotty in my opinion. My husbands prime rib was fattier than others I saw brought by our table. I wish he would've sent it back, but he's too nice. For the $$$ I am not lol. My Kansas City strip steak was pretty good, but not great. Aside from the crusted/charred outside, it tasted like a normal steak we make at home, my husband cooks just as well. And I mean that by quality of meat. They did get it right with temperature however, so I was happy with that. My daughter had the filet and that was the best steak out of the three of us. On the tray were radishes, green onions, green and black olives, carrots, and a pickle spear. I really enjoyed my old fashioned which was brought out quickly. My wife ordered a side salad with her steak, and asked for no onions. It was a run of the mill salad, with just a few tomatoes and cucumbers to go with the Romain lettuce. The Parmesan peppercorn dressing was the star of this show, as it was freshly made and was the standout here. My French onion soup was also quite delicious. The cheese was lightly melted and not as browned as others but that didn't take away from its delicious flavor. My wife and I both ordered New York strip steaks and they were cooked to our liking! I ordered mine with bernaise and steak fries while my wife asked for a loaded baked potato. The bernaise was delicious and I got more than I expected. The baked potato was delicious, and the toppings were bacon, cheddar cheese and green onion. The ambience is a candle lit table and little other lighting. It was romantic and intimate. Our group started off with Tempura cauliflower and shrimp for appetizers. The group had a split between soup or salad. I tell you, I've never had such crispy romaine lettuce. That salad seemed freshly picked 2 minutes ago. I had the rib eye with bone in and it was prepared to my temperature and it literally melted in my mouth. Others had Sicilian steak, Filet Mignon and ribs. The steak was seared and charred which I like. Full bar and nice wine menu. We were filled that we didn't even order desserts. My wife and I love this place - we never eat in the dining room, always at the bar. Service is fantastic. They might have the best French onion soup in the city. There are no short cuts to good FOS and they clearly do not take any. I've only had a steak once here because I cannot get past the pork chops! In my opinion, they are some of the biggest, juiciest, well-prepared chops, maybe in all of Wisconsin. Milky Way Martini: My family and I recently had dinner at "Milwaukee Steakhouse" to celebrate my brother's 30th birthday. The restaurant has a classic super club like atmosphere and a menu with a wide variety of steaks and other meat. To start the night off I decided to loosen up with their "Milky Way" martini. The drink is made with Godiva, Caramel Vodka and Baileys with a touch of caramel and chocolate syrups. It was absolutely phenomenal! It hit me surprisingly hard, but the flavor was not at all overly boozy. My only minor complaint is the price of the drink is $8 on their website and it came up as $12 on the bill. Still an out of this world drink and Doughboy approved. Dreamsicle Martini: Since one martini wasn't enough (although it really was), I followed my "Milky Way" with a "Dreamsicle" flavored one. This time the martini was made with Absolut Vanilla and Mandrin Vodka, Vanilla liqueur, and cream (garnished with a slice of orange). I enjoyed this one, but not as much as the "Milky Way". I'm more vanilla over chocolate, but even though there was plenty of vanilla it was overpowered slightly by the orange flavor. I would say this one is just okay, especially chasing the "Milky Way". Again, only minor complaint is the price of the drink is $8 on their website and it came up as $12 on the bill. Hickory BBQ Ribs: I love a good steak, but I had been struck with a craving for ribs. I know I haven't had BBQ ribs since at least before the pandemic, so it's been awhile. I ordered the half rack and it was more than enough for me. As described, the slow roasted pork ribs easily fell off the bone and were coated in a delicious hickory BBQ sauce. For my accompaniments I ordered the creamed spinach and sautéed asparagus (also massive portions). I absolutely loved the creamed spinach (mostly from all the cheese and probably added butter). All Doughboy approved Carrot Cake: As stuffed as I was after dinner, one of our party offered to share dessert with me. The dessert menu is not on their website, but it consisted of key lime pie, apple pie (I think, I was a little tipsy by this point), chocolate cake, carrot cake, and tiramisu. I told him I would be game for any of the later three (I find key lime & lemon gross and fruit should not be combined with dessert in my opinion). I'm honestly not much of a carrot cake guy either, but it's alright as long as it has a decent cream cheese frosting. Thankfully this one had a nice amount of sweet frosting (it was even layered throughout the cake) decorating the cake, which had a fair amount of moistness to its texture. If you like carrot cake I would say it's great, for me personally it was just okay (hence the dual rating). To sum things up, the food and atmosphere were all great. The staff was courteous and the restraint and facilities were clean. I'm going to give them 4/5 stars as the website could use a little updating (fix those drink prices and get the dessert menu posted) as I'm one of those people that always peruses the website so I know what I'm getting before arriving. The location is easy to get to off the freeway. There is plenty of parking. Now the real business, food was okay. Not spectacular just okay. The service was terrible, we had 2 waitressing that introduced themselves and said they would both be taking care of us. We are a table of 6. Took them over 30 minutes to come and take our order. The soups and salads were delivered rather quick. Drink refills were less than stellar. Steaks were delivered in a reasonable time. Not fast not slow just okay. The bill that took quite awhile to get as well. Then of course you have the annoying 3.5% fee added to all checks. Stop nickeling and diming your patrons. If you're looking for a nice dinner and a welcoming atmosphere, this is a great option! Sometimes, steakhouses can feel stuffy and proper. While nice, Milwaukee Steakhouse doesn't feel like you need to be dressed up to have a nice meal. We came in for a birthday dinner, and liked the char on our steaks and the potato options. The wine selection was also nice, though a bit overpriced. I think the paper menus were a COVID holdover, but if not, they felt out of place. As did the metal carts that the waitstaff pull around with them everywhere. I'm not entirely sure why they bothered me so much, but they were a bit distracting from the ambiance. I have visited many steakhouses, and this is not at the top of my list. The King Prime Rib for $65 is not worth the money. Was it tender? Yes the Prime rib is extremely tender, but the texture was weird and there was a ton of seasoning on it that took all the beef flavor away. The thing that's weird is that it wasn't salty, so as to what seasonings they use I don't know, but there was a huge lack of beef flavor. The char was more of a darkened edge that a crispy char. My wife ordered a Ribeye for $65 and that literally had an asparagus after taste! How, I don't know! Maybe they put some on the grill before cooking the ribeye. There was absolutely no beef flavor to the ribeye at all! I mean none! The calamari appetizer was delicious along with the Tuscan soup. The mozzarella in the sticks had some weird seasoning on it also. Also who serves bread uncut into slices? We had to cut the bread ourselves which left crispy bread crust all over the table, it was a mess! My son had the chicken Alfredo and said it was pretty good, I didn't try it. The atmosphere is awesome, dark decorative and welcoming! The staff are super nice and attentive! We will not be returning. I would eat Texas Roadhouse before these steaks. After arriving home from an anniversary trip to Madison, we decided to have one last lovely meal out before allowing the weekend to come to an end. We decided to enjoy a drink at the bar first. We both ordered Knob Creek Manhattans, which were well made and ample for the $10 price tag (roughly double in size, compared to what I'm accustomed to getting for the price). We then made our way to the table where we were immediately served sourdough and a relish tray to munch on while we perused the menu. I opted for their lobster tail (amazing) with a side of their parmesan mashed potatoes (creamy, rich deliciousness...so rich, in fact, I brought over half the serving home with me!). My husband opted for the surf & turf. He chose their 6oz steak to go along with his lobster tail and baked potato. There was one request from my cousin when it came to celebrating her 27th birthday. A big, juicy, delicious STEAK. After hearing good things about this spot, we ventured over for an early dinner before getting the party truly started. We arrived around 5pm to a relatively busy establishment, but had called ahead early to reserve spot, which was done easily over the phone. Our party of 6 was seated at a large circular table near the entrance, which accommodated our party well. The space gives off old supper club vibes, with the rich wood tables and dim lighting, creating the most intimate atmosphere - perfect for any date night or celebration. Two servers assisted us throughout the evening, tag teaming bringing us drinks, starters, sides, entrees and a little something extra for dessert. They maneuvered throughout the dining space seamlessly despite rolling a cart with them, constantly had our drinks replaced and waters replenished, all while providing an outstanding level of customer service! The food is the true star - and an award winner at that. A relish tray was first to greet us, which is the most Midwest thing ever - but a great starter to the meal, along with the perfectly toasted, warm french bread and butter. YUM. While the majority of the group opted for various size steaks loaded with mushrooms and onions (their signature special), I was in the mood for seafood and settled on the duel lobster tail. Each meal comes with two sides ranging from fresh salads, to soups and delectable whipped potatoes, starting with one first. Being that we hadn't had very many veggies throughout our visit, I chose to nosh on a crisp house salad with balsamic dressing to start - which provided the perfect crunch and introduction to the meal. Others wanted soups which they seemed to be pleased with. Shortly after, our entrees arrived which were MASSIVE in portion. My cousin's 6oz steak piled with mushrooms and onions took up her entire plate, and the parmesan whipped potatoes I ordered came in a serving dish - just for me! Our table was filled to the brim with dishes of every size and could easily have fed and Army. Now when I say my lobster tail was lump - I mean, truly the size of my hand and one thick baby. In fact, I could barely finish ONE tail, let alone 2! However, I easily dunked her into the melted butter (a cute little dish over a candle to melt and keep the butter warm - brilliant!) and noshed my way to lobster heaven. Others loved their steaks as they were loaded up, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I'm literally drooling as I write this! While the service was top notch and the portions, quality and meal was delicious, I still just can't wrap around the price tag of this meal. I know lobster is always pricy - but my dish rang in at $75, while the others varied in price from $50-$100 PER steak, with the bill totaling $450 BEFORE tip. The Roxy in Oshkosh is the same kind of place. Like the best of them, the rooms look a bit dated, but most pleasant-don't get me wrong-it's a fine establishment. Just know if you're yearning for fanfare and circuses, look elsewhere. This place is about the food. Steak, primarily. Wife and I swung with Filets, perfectly cooked with baked taters and brussels sprouts on the side. You can order it "with Garlic" (amongst other add-ons) and we recommend you do so One of the arbiters for a Wisconsin Steak House is its ability to throw a championship cocktail, and the M.S. did not disappoint. An expertly made "tall" Brandy Old Fashioned was my appetizer, along with the good bread and relish tray service. Truth is-any place that serves an old-school relish tray has a head start in my "plus" column. The staff was eager, friendly and efficient. Coming from Chicago, I didn't expect the prices to be as dear as they were, but the tab is commensurate with the meal. Don't know if I'd drive the 100 miles each way to eat here instead of in the City, but as it is, we find ourselves up North plenty of times per year. It's a little loud in the restaurant but that's what happens when people are out having a good time. All of our group Took a shower ordered steaks or prime rib and we had a variety of sides. The only thing I really am not a fan of is so much seasoning on my steak. I ordered the rib eye. Shame on me for forgetting to order my steak plain. I prefer to taste the beef. It actually does not unseasoned because it picks up seasonings from the grill from previous cooks and it ends up being perfect for me. We've eaten at the Milwaukee Steakhouse a dozen or more times since it has opened. This place is a no-nonsense, down-to-earth restaurant with no gimmicks or pretense. You certainly can call it casual dining at this location, unlike other well known steak houses around the country like Morton's, Mastro's or, locally, Eddy Martini's. The menu is one page and is all about MEAT. Other than filet and NY Steak, they also serve pork chops, ribs and lamb chops. A seafood special is usually offered daily. The food is always consistent: excellent, simple iceberg-based salads and dressings, large flavorful baked potatoes and butter fried sliced mushrooms. Last night, one of our entrees was crab stuffed shrimp served over wild rice that was wonderful. We also had a NY steak. The NY Steak here (which I usually order) has never been anywhere near equal to the best NY Steaks I've eaten in my lifetime; either homemade or in restaurants. It is, however, something I consistently get here because it is good and flavorful, as are most NY Steaks. My guess is that the steak is obviously not "prime grade," but most likely "select" or "choice" grade. As luck would have it last night, the steak had a thin tendon running through it that made a portion of the steak tough and inedible. All the servers here are very professional, serious minded, service oriented, friendly and efficient. As a customer, I feel rather welcomed (and recognized) when we come in and note that every other customer is treated the same way, as well. There is a long, full bar in the restaurant that serves good cocktails. Upon being seated, your table is set up with a long, warm baguette, served with quarter sticks of butter for each diner, honey and a relish tray, usually filled with various types of olives, scallions, pepperoncinis, carrot and celery sticks and green onion (scallion). read more

I wish I had taken pictures but after I took the first bite I just couldn't stop. This place was outstanding. I had the queen cut 16oz Prime Rib steak cooked medium for $50. Worth every penny!!! The steak was huge and comes with a soup or salad and potato or fries. I had the salad with ranch dressing which was really good. It had 2 large slices of cucumber and one tomato wedge and about 4 onion slices. I would have liked to have cheese on it but even without it it was good. Another friend eating with me had the Italian dressing and she said it was one of the best dressings she ever had. Then I got the steak fries and they were probably the best steak fries I've ever had. We also had the calamari which was scrumptious as well as there complementary bread. There is no way you leave this place hungry or unsatisfied. Customer service was top notch the owner or manager literally greats everyone who comes in. Went sound 5:30 PM with no reservation, but they were able to accommodate our party of 2 immediately. We both had steaks & were excellent - done as requested. Had fresh crispy relish dish, hot bread & salads also fresh & crispy. Each had drink before & after which hit the spot. Our waitress was chipper & prompt serving & checking on his. We had a great time, and an even better meal. Service was prompt and attentive; we were seated almost immediately despite not having a reservation (sounds like tables/reservations fill up quickly but we got there warly and snagged the last available table); waters were refilled several times before we ever ran out, and waitress Debbie was a hoot! The French onion soup was Amazing, the salad was fresh & crispy, the baked potatoes were huge, hot, fluffy, and delicious, and the steaks were cooked perfectly - great cuts of meat! Showed up at 8:14pm and was turned away because they "closed early" since it was Monday. Sad to say, because of the amazing reviews, we RUSHED from Madison to get their in time to sit and eat before their 9pm posting of closing time. Had to settle for Longhorn and was extremely disappointed. Drove 15 hours from Ga and then rushing to eat and was turned away. VERY SAD ABOUT THIS ISSUE!!! Hope they realize that sometimes people are not just locals being sent away. read more
