I love their hotdogs with chili and raw onions. Cheeseburgers are good also. A lot of fries. The only drawback is their customer service. The cashier is very rude to everyone. Has an attitude that drives people away. Very snippy and insulting. They find a better person for the job. read more

Full disclosure, I know the owner's nephew, but this is totally random because I was looking for a place that sold Kuhn's chili and the Five-O is one of only a few I found. This place is in a little strip mall at the top of Tunxis Hill Road where it intersects Black Rock Turnpike. The parking is limited at lunch time as some reviewers have mentioned, so I snuck in a bit early to make sure I found a park. I called my husband to see if he also wanted a hot dog with Kuhn's chili and he made that snorting noise like seriously is this a question? I bought 3 hotdogs without knowing they are footlongs. So we probably could've shared two. The hot dogs are delicious. They come in a less than footlong length bun but I liked that - less filling up with bread. The Kuhn's chili is really good but my friend was right - it is spicy. So I actually got Kuhn's chili and regular relish to offset the heat. It's not crazy hot, but you can definitely see lots of red pepper flake in the mixture. Also, it's not the consistency of chili like meat chili, it's more like a relish or a topping. Really good though, and the Five-O perfected the hot dog to bun to chili ratio so everything tastes great. There's a small sitting area but I did take-out. They also sell some grocery items and cold drinks. The owners are very nice. You order first and pay when your food is ready. Very reasonable too. Highly recommend. PS One other mysterious thing about the chili. It's sold by the quart but it says on the jar No Refrigeration Necessary. I have no idea how that's possible. read more

Many folks will tell you that Fairfield is a haven for breakfast sandwiches. In fact, I often joke that the breakfast sandwich was invented in Fairfield as there are so many damn options of places to get them. And while the general consensus is that the Country Cow makes the finest, I will go out on a limb and say the Five O takes top prize. The price is right (typically 2.75 for an egg sandwich with your choice of meat on it...that's a good deal less than Country Cow), and it's ready in a jiffy (none of those crazy lines like at Country Cow). Lately, my go-to has been a turkey, egg and cheese with a dash of hot sauce. Because, you know, in my mind that is a bit healthier. Healthy or not, the sandwich is damn good. I've also had many lunch sandwiches from Five O, and my favorite has always been the grilled chicken with on a hard roll with some pickles, hot peppers, lettuce and tomato. Nice and simple. Nice and tasty. The coffee isn't half bad there, and they have a wide variety of other beverages and random groceries even. The only thing keeping me from going five stars on this review is that the place is looking dingier and dingier by the day. I get it that Five O is more of a bodega than a sit-down breakfast place or deli, but I still think that they could freshen the place up a bit. The Roast Beef Sandwich or Grinder whatever way you like it hits the spot. Made to how you like it and with their personal touch of season it is pretty dam good. I have had a few in my day from many different places and my own son who is not a big Roast Beef fan tried it and said wow this is a really good sandwich and my son is in the restaurant business. Small deli, but they are excellent. The people who work there are great. My dad goes every day, so of course they know him, but they even remember me, although I only go once in a blue moon. They treat everyone with such respect and they're very friendly and fun to talk with. Their food is also great, particularly their hotdogs. Nice deli for lunch and a nice mini mart for all other times. This is a small business done right. read more

Kuhn's chili sauce is an outstanding hot dog topping. Five O sells it in one quart containers for a very reasonable price (recently $10). Repackage in small containers for the freezer, then enjoy months of great tasting hot dogs. read more
