I am somewhat surprised by the 1-star reviews of this restaurant. I've been here numerous times with my family, and every time we've had good food and good service. Yes, it's a little on the expensive side, but I've never felt like it wasn't worth it. I would give them 4.5 stars, but not 5 stars since the food isn't THE BEST I've ever had, but it's certainly VERY GOOD. I love the Paella. (again, surprised by the 1-star reviews.. This is great place for lunch or dinner. We have been frequent flyers since they opened. At first their prices seemed high with entrees in the 20-$30 range. With the recession they have made menu adjustments and lowered prices. The food is has been uniformly excellent. The short ribs melt in your mouth. The shrimp and jambalaya is outstanding. I will admit that I have only ever been to the happy hour, but this place makes the best lemon drops. I would go just for those! The rest of the happy hour menu is always good and well-priced, they even have some vegetarian options! The service is great, which can be hard to find in West Linn. read more

Cute little place in West Linn. Dennis in the bar is very knowledgable. His lemon drops are delicious! I had mine with their in house pineapple rum instead of the vodka. It was awesome! Got reservations for 8 on a sat night which is not easy in Portland area. Everyone in the party loved their entree which had a great well rounded selection but not overwhelming. Had the crab cake app, grilled romaine salad so good! And stuffed pork chop. Left stuffed after the deep dish cookie and apple pie alamode. Definitely return here for date night. I have had bad service many times but never like I experienced at Five O Three in West Linn. We had many negative interactions with staff there but the worst was the staff would not check a food Item for an allergen and the Manager would not come out so we could ask him to do it. This place saves me every time. When traveling and exhausted, no matter how bad my mood after arriving in PDX and heading south, this is the place I can stop and know that all is well with the world. I will admit that I never would have visited this place if it wasn't for a Sharing Spree Portland deal. I took my 3 kids (ages 11, 8, 8) along with my in-laws to dinner. The place was very charming. Even though they offer a kids menu with ok choices, this restaurant is more of a "date place". The food is a bit more upscale but, good. The service was a tad slow but, this can be good on a date (lots of talking time!). I will probably return with my husband on a date to give this place another chance. Will never go back. Bad, slow food on a slow night. My fiancé ordered a medium rare steak which came out well done. I ordered the special, which also came out overdone. We went here for my birthday dinner today, with our one year old son. The staff were super friendly and very tolerant about our kid tossing food to the floor. The food: We both ordered the ala carte steaks, and they were FANTASTIC. The appetizers, we got the clams and the calamari, were perfect. The deserts were hewn from a block of pure evil.. We walked out more stuffed than I've been in a long time. Not since Alba Enotica went out of business have we had a restaurant in town we liked this much. read more

Rude. Planning to meet some other people before dinner, reviewed the menu from just outside the front door, and went in to the Maitre D' station. The young man at the door was nice; we asked to be seated on the patio and began placing our order. An older man, possibly owner or manager, came up, took the menu and order pad from the person who had been helping us, told us, "No, Happy Hour is over," and walked away. The young man who'd been helping us was apologetic. By his watch, happy hour ended one minute earlier and after we'd begun to place our order. We left. We were disappointed because the menu looked reasonable and we didn't feel that we could support a restaurant who treats potential customers in that way. We weren't there to be cheap; we'd planned to have dinner there with friends. We joked that maybe he was offended by business casual. The older couple we met for dinner mentioned that they'd been there once for dinner but were treated similarly and had planned not to go back again. They'd only considered giving them another chance based on our comments from reading the menu and planning an early meal when the restaurant might have been slower. We won't be back; the menu looks reasonable, but there are plenty of other places in the area with comparable menus who seem to appreciate the people coming through the door. read more

My husband and I have visited Five-0-Three many times because we loved the eccentric menu options and the price was fair...5 stars worthy. After waiting 2 long months, we finally had a date night and ventured across town to eat at our favorite restaurant...and were beyond disappointed with the restaurant. The menu lacked any imagination and even the specials, steelhead ($27) or bacon wrapped filet ($26) were boring. We ordered the crab cake appetizer (ands we had the last visit) and each ordered the filet. While waiting, we had a glass of wine..which was small considering the price...and bread. I was shocked to see the bread was store bought and pulled from a plastic bag to be warmed in the oven, but bread is bread for the most part...right? Crab cakes arrived and looked like a heap of fried half dollars. They were tasteless and NOTHING compared to our last visit. I'm not even convinced there was crabmeat in them. Our food arrived and my jaw nearly fell into my plate. The filet was tiny (looked like the ones available at Safeway), 2 charred pieces of broccolini, and a small (1/8 c or less) of parsnip/blue cheese puree. Definitely NOT worth $26...not even close. We asked for the dessert menu and passed because like the main menu, it too lacked imagination. I'm not sure if there was a change in management or chef...but whatever happened, the change has moved this from our favorite restaurant to one we won't be visiting again. came for Sunday brunch. the blood orange mimosa was super delicious. our waitress was friendly and helpful. service was slow despite a fairly empty dining room. Between the 4 of us dining together, we ordered 4 different dishes, and our response was unanimous- very bland and underwhelming. I had the duck hash and had to salt and pepper several times to pull flavor out of the dish, and even then it was very MEH. one friend ordered the chilaquiles and was told they had a punch of spice but also found her meal to be very bland. even the waffles and breakfast potatoes another friend ordered were bland and boring. I was so hoping to love this place, as it's close to home and the menu LOOKS incredible. unfortunately I just wouldn't risk another mediocre meal here. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try. He grew up in West Linn so we are there often. We went there during happy hour looking for some good food and even better drinks. Our food was ok, and our drinks were just ok, but I would say the service was just plain bad! A couple walked in as we wereordering our food and our server left us to greet them with a very friendly hello and warm smile, then returned to us with the same old bland personality and overall irratated look to her to finish our order. That was beyond unprofessional in my eyes. She did not come to check on us, and we has to wave her down just to get her attention. There was even a point we got up and poured our own water off the near by cart with te pitcher on it because she was not around. The other people around us got their food way before us and all we ordered was salad and a burger. Not too dificult I would say. On a positive note, their atmosphere was nice, and the outdoor seating was nice, but no where near worth it for the bad service we recieved from our server. I would not recommend this place to anyone, based on the service alone! read more

I was quite disappointed with our experience at 503. We had eaten there before and had a really nice experience. We went for happy hour and ordered off that menu. The green salad (small pile of mixed greens and one sliced tomato) was $4. The first one was full of wilted slimy leaves so I sent it back. The second one was still full of gross leaves so I sent it back and asked said I didn't want it. No apologies just an "I understand and will take it off your bill". Then when our food came only half of our order was brought to us. The other half hadn't been cooked or was missed somehow. Finally my husbands burger was barely cooked...like just the outside was browned. It was definitely rare rather than medium:( We didn't send it back because at that point we were ready to just be done. The other food was good, but our evening was kind of spoiled. read more

We are big fans of Five-O-Three. Our whole family (even the kids) enjoy the food whether it be hamburgers, steak or the seafood special. There is something for everyone on the menu - even if you're health conscious. The staff has always been five star; we've never had poor service. The staff is actually very food and wine savvy which I really appreciate. I don't really understand the some of the poor reviews since I've only had great food and even better service. My husband and I have given a fair chance to this restaurant. We have ordered food to go twice. The first time was alright. The pork tenderloin was very dry, but the gnocchi was delicious. The second time we ordered we called it in. They called us back about 10 minutes later to tell us the online menu wasn't accurate and the entree we ordered is discontinued. They offered a substitute entree which was $8 more. We were hungry and just went ahead and ordered it. When my husband went in to pick up our order we were shocked. $30 halibut looked more like something we used to feed our babies. It was 4 tiny halibut chunks smothered in a soupy corn mix. Such a disappointment. The bartender asked him if all looked good, when my husband said no, the bartender looked at him with disgust. The only thing worth getting at this restaurant is the Mac and cheese, which is only an appetizer. My advice.......save your hard earned money and eat somewhere else. read more
