This is probably the last time I'll be using 5 Star. Not because they're not awesome; they are!!!! I'm just retiring and leaving the area is all.... 5 Star is family owned and run. From the time you check in with Sarah, til the time you pick up your catch, they treat you like family. The fillets are nearly perfect and sealed in family sized portions. It's neat, it's clean, and it's awesome to know your catch will be darn near as fresh as the day you caught it. I've enjoyed blue fin 2 seasons later and it was still good. They rip people off that are on small charters where the captain advises you to use them to process your fish. I think maybe management has changed or something is wrong based on the reviews I am seeing. But they stole most of our catch then played stupid when we went to pick up our order. The drop off I questioned their honesty, so we took photos of the catch. Lucky our daughter lives there and went to try and make it right, they have us a little more. Don't trust them! Better to shop around and get another company. They were late on top of it. Then did not call us when it was ready. Down to the day we left. Just not trust worthy. Disorganized and understaffed. I used different fish processing company in San Diego but no one came close to satisfy me more than 5 start.. Struggled between 2 and 3 stars here. Came in with 6 YT footballs and 2 15-ish lb YF. Figured I'd save myself a little time and try out 5-Star. The YT I got back was about 1/3 of what I'd have if I'd done it myself. I get it, if you're on a long range boat and you're looking at 100 lbs of fish, this might be the way to go. A bit disappointing, however, to get back so little of your hard fought fish. read more

Five stars for Five Star! I have been remiss in not getting this review out earlier. I have been long range fishing out of San Diego for more years than I care to tell you, and have done everything from process the fish myself to using a processor. Let me tell you, the LAST thing you wanna do at the end of your fishing vacation is haul the fish home, coerce your friends and family to help you, and spend hours fileting fish. The big bloody mess, the sudden love of all the neighborhood cats, the dog rolling around in tuna slop....well, its all too much for me to deal with anymore. I used to use another processor, but the quality just wan't there. Five Star's excellent facilities, friendly customer service, and quality make the end of your fishing trip a joy, and is a perfect way to finish off your vacation. The cats and your dog may not be too happy, but you will really be glad you chose Five Star. Oh, and did I mention.....SAME DAY SERVICE! My friends and I have used Five Star for over 10 years and they've always been excellent. The company has been sold and it's not the same. At first, they couldn't find our reservation, but they found it. Not a big deal, but we asked to have the fish shipped with dry ice. It arrived with a couple freezer packs and no dry ice. As a result, probably 25% of the fish arrived unfrozen. We were told several times that it would be shipped with dry ice. Not the case! We will probably use another processor next time. I wrote review and it was posted. Perhaps, I was too quick to give them a negative review. The real issue was that we thought dry ice was not put in the shipping box and according to Drew, it probably had been supplied as we requested. Dry ice does evaporate and this could be the case. I appreciate the fact that Drew did call right away and cared enough to try and rectify the problem. Next year, we will request more to be added or pick the fish up ourselves. Please give Drew and Five Star the benefit of the doubt and that I was wrong! Once in a while............. read more

For the last five years, they have donated fish (that we would not normally be able to afford) so that we can throw the most amasing fish taco parties. I've never used a processor before because I am a diehard full day fisherman. But with the action being as good as it has been with the larger grade fish I decided to make the leap and send my latest limits of yellowtail to this place. I can't believe that I've been doing this at home all along with my own stuff the quality that comes out of this place is so far superior that it will blow your mind. The fish is table ready and sashimi quality right out of the bag no bloodline no skin no redmeat. Their jerky is the most outrageously delicious snack I've ever come across. I had the whole yellowtail broken down into fish jerky and it made me wish that I had all five of my yellowtail turned into fish jerky. my next trip out whatever I catch along with pretty much every trip I take moving forward is likely going to go to five star. It is well worth the time and money and gives you something that you could give to friends or enjoy it for a long time after you catch it. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

I would pass on these guys if I were you. To be fair they did a good job on processing my 170lb bluefin and it was done quickly. The problem I had was trying to ship 20lbs worth to AZ to my sister. At the office the young lady there told me it would be shipped and arrive on the next Sunday. A week and a half later my shipment still had not arrived. It took 6 phone calls and two messages to get a hold of someone who told me she was not familiar with their shipping arrangements and she would have a manager call me back. I never received a call from the manager so I called back 5 more times to finally get someone who explained to me that they don't ship on weekends and the receptionist made an error. That's fine mistakes happened but my fish was sitting there for a whole week and it took all this hassle to finally have my order shipped 9 days later. I will not be back. Go to fishermen's processing and save yourself the headache. They could really train their front office staff better so they know what they are talking about before telling their customers something tastes wrong and then not knowing anything about how they ship things anyway. And maybe answer your phone too so it doesn't take 6 calls to figure out what is going on. read more

Thee best on the docks anywhere in So Cal, These women rock the docks when you pull in after a long range trip or even a over nighter. Service is top notch, VAC/PAC bags are not the cheap thin ones from China, but rather a good 5 mill thick. Someone recommeded I use Five Star up here in NorCal before I left on the trip, but I was sceptical, as I had to have everything shipped up here, and am always sceptical. I sent an email and ended up communicating with the owners and decided to go with them because they sounded professional. Our group called and set up a time for five star to meet us at seaforth landing. They confirmed that they would be there . But they did not even show up. We drove 400 lbs of fish over to the plant and found it closed. What a terrible service. Never use Five Star!! read more

I give five star two time fish to process for me first time I give them 2 whoop fish together 44 lbs off fish I got 4 lbsbofv smoke fish including the the plastic vacume beg the 2nd time I give the 2 blue fin tuna the first one I asked for tuna caning and I got 28 cans off tuna from 48 lb fish each can weigh about 0.5 lb including the water and the can when you open I open the can I just find a super small pice off off fish inside and more then that I give them my fish in the end off Nov 18 but on the cans the print say 09/02/2018 and from the 2nd fish I ask for smoke off 1/2 and the 2nd 1/2 he so for stake vacuumed pack and I got 4 lbs off stake and 2 lbs off smoked fish when I ask to talk to the manger all he have to tell me it's If I don't to bring to them any more fish it's ok he have to me my customers and it is why it is I just wandering way they came fish time fish it is e ligal to do they take the angles fish and hide so they can sale at the show that coming soon and give fish jerky samples just e what off it dot use them read more

Signed up for a long range trip on the Royal Polaris. Decided to have my fish processed this trip (last trip I tried to process my own fish. It took a whole day to fillet and vacuum pack 15 medium sized fish, what a pain). Although there are many options to choose from, I researched the different companies, and I chose Five Star. I made a reservation with them, and I was listed as the 6th person in line for the boat I was on. When we returned from the successful trip at 6 am, I met Sarah at the dock and I filled out my form and they took my 7 tuna, 4 yellowtail and a few rockfish. She said it should be done by 11 am the same day. At 10 am, I received a call that the processing was completed. I brought my coolers to their location and they loaded ice along with my processed fish. I told them I had a 8 hour drive and they ensured me the ice would last until the next day. Upon arriving at home, the ice was barely melted and the fish was in excellent shape, most in 1-1.5 lb vacuum packages. I had paid extra to get the 5 mil bags and it was worth it. The fish are delicious and the freezer is now full. I am very happy with their processing and will use them again. read more

I don't know where to begin with this review... so here it goes. If I could give these guys 6 stars I would. My brother and I brought in a couple of trophy bluefin yesterday. They were the biggest fish we have ever shot and the first time we have ever got fish processed so we didn't really know what to expect. When we first got to back to the dock we called five star fish processing based on the reviews. They told us they closed at 2 but would be happy to wait for us to get there which ended up being about 2:30. When we got there we were greeted by a very friendly staff. What was the most surprising to me was how excited they were for us when they saw the fish. These people love fish and are very passionate about what they do. They instantly had people helping get the fish out of the boat and on the scale(which isn't easy when the fish weigh 206 and 244 lbs!) without us even having to ask they offered to take some pictures for us with fish on the scale and the fish next to each other and I'm so glad they did because one of the pictures turned out to be our favorite. We were able to pick up 200+ pounds of meat the following morning. All professionally vacuum packed and in beautiful condition. I never thought I would be one to get fish professionally processed but after my experience I can say I will for sure be back. Plus it gave us more time to drink beer and celebrate our catch. My buddy and I had them process our fish, mostly yellowtail from an 8-day, in June 2017. We asked them to freeze it overnight and have it ready when they opened the next day, which was no problem. Packets were sized right, nicely sealed and frozen. We pulled up with coolers and the guys loaded them up with our fish - super easy and fast. I really can't think of any way 5 Star's service could be any better. Definitely using them from now on. read more

I have been long range fishing for quite some time, and have tried all the other options of fish processing. Eventually I tried using Five Star Fish Processing, and I have no need to look any further. I try to keep Sarah and her staff aware of when I'm going fishing, and give them an idea about how much fish I will be processing, but from there it's straight great service. They assist me in bringing my fish over to be weighed, it is finished exactly when they tell me it'll be finished, in the size packages I request, and they make it effortless in loading into my truck for the drive home. I can't say enought about 5 star processing. In mid July we informed the office about a four day trip on the Sprit of Adventure and could they pick up our fish. The staff were waiting for us as we collected our yellow tail catch. I had 3 YT processed for jerky that turned out outstanding according to several friends and family. The remainding 19 yt were vac/pac along with all collars. All fish were trimed according to my instructions packed and ready the next morning. Excellent processing, great customer service and attractive ladies. Blue Fin tuna excitment took us on rush trip Aug. 28th for a day and half and could not contact 5 Star. Upon collecting all our BFT at 5:30 a.m. We rushed over to 5 Star and found they were working and open. They understood our situation and processed the BFT in 45 min's. I've used Five Star Fish Processing for the last four years. They have always done a great job of performing same day processing of my long range fishing catch. Although the costs do add up for a big catch, it is well worth the money to have your fish professionally filleted, vacuum packed and clearly marked. My fish has lasted well over a year in the freezer. Although there is other competition, they haven't given me reason to try anyone else. Highly recommended. read more
