We promptly decided it was time to have it replaced...better than ever before! We got a couple bids for the job. But Charles really stood out because: 1. After walking the job, he promptly sent a detailed bid and CAD drawing. We refined the scope several times and every time he would promptly refine the quote and redo the CAD drawing. Very good follow through. Not pushy, just responsive. 2. He had a large book of color photographs of his work that helped us choose finishes and make design decisions. He has done a TON of patios and pergolas in different styles. I love this book because there are a lot of decisions to make -- it's easier to point to the picture you like more vs. having to imagine if you want feature A or B. In terms of price, Charles was in the middle -- not the highest bid and not the lowest. But we got the best feeling from him, and that's what is important to me. We redid our kitchen two years ago and our general contractor (not Charles, obviously), fled the country in the middle of the job after a progress payment! Yikes, bad memories. I am very happy with how my patio and pergola turned out; we seriously live outside now. We have a plexiglass cover (to protect from rain) and fans (to help somewhat with the Texas heat). Charles and his crew were great overall. Pluses: - They only do outdoor patios and pergolas. This is what they are good at and they are fast. - Charles was here a lot, especially at first to get the job started. He didn't just oversee progress, he was out there working and sweating with his men. - Charles helped to perfect the design while the job was in progress. He had his wife paint several different colors of grey stain onto sample boards so we could choose the right one. We spent a few hours perfecting the brick pattern on the columns. He wanted us to be happy with the final outcome. - Flexible with changes with very few change orders. I must have added 10 electrical outlets...didn't get a bill for it. So unusual for a GC. - Open to feedback when we felt like something wasn't perfect. Because they were outside my kitchen window, I would do dishes and watch progress unfold. And let him know when I didn't like something. Absolutely never got push back from him. He would call his crew or come by and fix it immediately. - Follow through has been great. Even after we were all paid up, he sent over a crew a couple times because rain was getting through my plexiglass cover. Again, so unusual for a GC. Minuses: - I wish they would broaden their scope from just outdoor patios and pergolas to other things. I have a bathroom I would love for them to remodel. Ah well. Anyway, check out the pictures. The projects began by meeting with Trey Laird, and he prepared a detailed color mock-up of his ideas and a proposal with various options. He was very knowledgeable and patiently worked with us to create a finished product better than we imagined. We worked with all of his longtime crews who were very respectful to us and our home. They cleaned up after themselves every day, never blared music and kept to a tight schedule working very hard daily. No corners were cut with any of the preparations and quality work was of upmost importance. They worked with existing drainage, plumbing and sprinklers and made repairs/upgrades as needed while helping to stay within budget. Trey was also very helpful when we picked out planters so we obtained the best shape and size. Neighbors are constantly complementing our yard, and one even stopped to ring the doorbell while on a walk to share his positive thoughts. These people are either completely incompetent or dishonest - or both. They claimed experience and ability. I bought their "ah shucks, good ole boy attitude." That was my first mistake. But he way - the names of the people I dealt with were Shelton and Sterling. They took 5 months, I repeat 5 months to finish the job. A neighbor a few houses down had MORE work done than I did and it was finished in 2.5 weeks. And they had the same number of people working! I cannot tell you how many times they said they would show, but always had an excuse that something else came up..or it was weather (which the other landscaping team never had a problem with at the same time!). "Great" Lawn Care did "landscape" work for me and achieved the following: 1. Replaced poor and uneven grass with even worse grass and MORE uneven. Extremely weed filled from day one. My neighbor who had his grass replaced at the same time has few weeds and he did not use weed killer. In other words, I got horrible turf and it was installed in a very lazy cheap way - over the old grass. They did not dig up old grass, put down new soil and sand, roll, then put on new grass; 2. Deceptively tried to use plants that were not on the list I gave them. They claimed the nursery gave them the wrong plants. It became apparent over time that they only knew a few types of common cheap landscaping plants builders use. And, I did not find out crape myrtles were NOT the ones we agreed to after they bloomed this spring; 3. They transplanted two Japanese Blueberry, both died; 4. They screwed up lighting system multiple times; 5. They got stones and dirt in pool (saying that would NEVER happen) causing the destruction of a $800 filter pump; 6. They failed 4 times to properly cement masonry steps and it only worked when I found out they were using Liquid Nails instead of masonry cement (despite telling me they were using masonry cement). 7. All lantana and Texas sage they planted in my front yard died. I bought new and planted myself and they are doing fine.; 8. I asked 4 times for them to fix how sprinklers were spraying. Each time I found very little had been done. I don't think you need to be that educated to know that an area with cactus should not get watered, and an area with grass should! 9. I asked multiple times that they should bury exposed lighting lines. I ended up doing it myself and I am still finding some. 10. They have not given the key to my yard back so I had to have it rekeyed. Believe it it or not, there were may more problems, but you get the idea...don't use these guys!

To make it worse I was getting letters from the HOA every other month. Scott came out and assessed my issue and reassured me that while it wasn't going to be easy his team could get it done and they did just that. The crew was professional and courteous. They ensured everything was removed, cleaned up and removed. I would absolutely recommend Infinitely Blue and plan to use them again soon to make the old tree stump area a beautiful garden area.

Volcano Concrete executed the dirt work and foundation. Turnkey. Using Volcano for both made a seamless, quick timeline. Through out the process there were small changes and added work which Bruno did without change orders or added cost. Bruno advised on slopes to shed water away from the house. Volcano finished the project strong taking time to completely clear the job site, grade the dirt properly around the foundation, even power wash the existing areas to clear construction mud. The foundation is precisely constructed per engineers specs. Volcano passed multiple inspections the first time. I plan to hire Volcano for future drainage work and a driveway.

Fast forward, and it is apparent he has either lied about many things or is just in way over his head as a contractor. The project dragged on for months with endless delays, excuses, and no clear timelines. The crew was constantly changing, unreliable, and often didn't show up at all. The work that was done was inconsistent, had to be redone on many occasions, and left unfinished at the end of the day. At the beginning, however, he worked very fast in order to extract more of the payments from us. Once we realized that, after materials we had purchased, we had paid the full amount of the project already but the work was only halfway done, he had completely vanished. Now he will not answer our calls or texts to save his life. Who knows what he is doing meanwhile, this entire year we have been trying to live in a house filled with unfinished work and broken promises. It has been so stressful for us and our kids to have to go through this. To add icing on the cake, he is using the pictures of our renovation without our consent to try and swindle more money out of unsuspecting customers. It is a very low blow and just adds to our suffering. I have kept holding out for the chance that he will do the decent and honest thing and either complete the work or return our last payment to make us whole. We do not have the budget to complete the work for now and will have to keep suffering. But it is apparent he is not honest in his dealings and I feel so gullible for falling for it. To sum it up, this has been stressful, expensive, and frustrating. I am very upset at the dishonesty and lack of accountability. We were misled and abandoned mid-project instead of dealing with a trustworthy professional. So please avoid this contractor!
