I have had two great experiences with this place. The first time, everyone I met was friendly and really good at going over all the details. The work was good and they scheduled me as soon as possible (last minute during the holiday season). I didn't write a review after the 1st job, but that experience led me to my appointment today. Jake at Fix Auto San Mateo is a gem. This review has two parts: 1) Someone sideswiped my car in a mall parking lot while I was inside and did significant damage to the front and side of the car. We chose Fix Auto from the limited list of collision specialists our insurance had approved, so we had low expectations. I called the shop, and Jake was sincere about how long it would take to get an assessment appointment and a repair appointment. When we brought the car in, Jake was friendly and detail oriented. Throughout the process, Jake, Marga (the owner), and another gentleman whose name I can't recall were patient with me. After they finished the repair, they even spent 20 minutes with me going over the list of repairs and replacement parts. They were gracious when I noticed two small errors during that review process, including one scrape they had failed to repair. They even sent out a special repair company to my home a few days later. 2. One week later, I damaged my car in the exact same spot that Fix Auto had just repaired. I called Fix Auto, and Jake suggested I come in that same day. I went in the following day, and he repaired the problem himself right away in about 10 minutes! He didn't charge me a cent. Update: This team is consistently amazing! Unfortunately my car was hit again (twice in as many years) but the upside is at least I knew exactly who I wanted to take it to. Working with Fix auto in San Mateo was even better this time. I had a work trip scheduled so I asked if I could drop off the car Sunday night and pick it up when I got back so I wouldn't have to deal with a rental. Not only did they work with me to make this happen, they stayed on top of the insurance carrier and dealership (needed re-calibration) to make sure they had it ready for me when I got back. Smooth as butter, and the car looks better than when I bought it. I went in to get an estimate for my tesla and she informed me that they weren't working on teslas at that time. The reason I'm writing the review is because Marga proceeded to give me information on where I could get estimates both with sister companies as well as their competitors. We then had a conversation for 10 minutes about what to expect and how to tell a quality job from one that cuts corners. Marga went way beyond my expectations. Prius Owners! A solution for swiped Cats. I'd gotten a couple of posts on Nextdoor about car vandals who swiped the catalytic converters from Priuses. Then it happened to me! I'd been parking my Prius across the street from my house on upper Harbor Blvd. in Belmont. Last Tuesday I started my Prius, and as soon I put the car in motion, the engine emitted a very loud, throaty roar! I backed it up and parked it, not knowing if I'd damaged something. Then I looked on the ground in front of my car and saw the telltale sign of cat swiping: a bolt with a spring on it. I called around and found out that replacing the cat costs around $3K! So I put a claim thru my insurance company. I'm paying the $250 deductible (comprehensive coverage) for the repair, plus only $75* to install the Cat Security Shield that I purchased and had delivered to the repair shop. In my research, I found that several local muffler & repair shop owners had designed their own protective cages or shields to prevent cats from being swiped for their precious metals. (Toyota apparently puts a large amount of palladium, rhodium and platinum in their Prius catalytic converters.) But they were asking around $300 for their protective devices. The repair shop I chose for my repair, Fix Auto in San Mateo, referred me to Cat Security. A muffler shop owner in Roseville designed the Cat Security Shield. The demand for it has grown so great that he closed his shop and is just making and selling the Cat Security Shield now. He makes them for 2000-2020 model Priuses. It's normally a $200 item, but he's running a sale until the end of November for $160. So, I paid $174 including tax and had it sent (w/free shipping) to Fix Auto San Mateo. They got the parts & did the job quickly: I took my car in on Wednesday afternoon and it was done on Saturday. (Yes, it's safe to drive your roaring hot rod Prius a few miles to a repair shop; you don't have to get it towed.) Prius owners, take heed! Swiping cats is very profitable, takes only a couple of minutes, and is quite common now. But with a shield on it, thieves will avoid your car, as it takes around 30 minutes extra to drill thru the rivets that hold the shield in place. If you ever leave your Prius on the street overnight, take my recommendation: Go to GetCatSecurity.com, buy your Cat Security Shield, and get it installed! *Fix Auto gave me a low $75 rate to install the Cat Security Shield because I was having repairs done with it. read more

Got into an accident about 3 weeks ago going home from work and damaged my BMW's front passenger's side (headlights smashed, bumper damaged (why do cars have METAL bumpers anyways? I guess there are no real 'bumpers' these days!), and my front hood was bent and half-popped off!) Given the angle of my accident to my car, there were a lot of parts needed to get repaired. I am very particular on any work done on my car since I took care of it (1st owner) and ALL maintenance (even oil change) was at the BMW maintenance facility. When I learned the BMW facility does not work on collision repair, I had to do a *lot* of research on which facility I wanted to trust my car to. I made some calls and finally decided on trying Fix Auto San Mateo and I was able to talk to Marga, she was very friendly and was able to accommodate me and helped me through the process. I was hesitant to even drive my car to her shop and she offered a tow service and coordinated with me on my crazy office work schedule! Her team was very communicative and reached out to me on status of my claim as things develop. When it was finally repaired, I couldn't pick it up on the weekday due to all sorts of personal schedule issues but they accommodated me after-hours! I got an estimate and they think because I'm a woman they could try and rip me off. They wanted to charge 6x as much as another shop to repair my electric window on a Fiat! All kind of added charges like pre and post diagnostic check, mechanical Labor and auto body labor. The shop who did my repair charges for the part and an hour of labor. Trying to change for pre and Post diagnostic codes is an utter joke. Go somewhere else ladies as they think we are fools! read more

I came to Fit It, because the reviews were so positive. I was expecting to have a great experience like the rest of the reviews I had read. I came in to get an estimate on the damage of my car after an accident, and was told I'd hear back within 24 hours. One day passed, I called to check in, and was told I'd hear back later that day. It's been 4 days since I've gone in, and have YET to get a response. Business is busy, I am understanding of that, but no communication whatsoever is absolutely unacceptable. I chose Fix San Mateo initially because when I called, they didn't treat me like a little girl who didn't know anything about cars, the typical reaction I get when visiting a garage. My car has been hit twice in the last two years by others while I am parked at work and a few other shops I consulted made it seem like it was my fault for other people hitting my car. Warren made me feel respected and welcome and gave a reasonable quote to get my car repaired, as well as a quick turnaround time. Everyone at the shop is friendly and treat you like a human not just a number. They even called me to let me know my car was ready in advance of the time they had initially told me. They care not only about the car but also the service they provide. Whenever I pick up my car, it has been cleaned and the workmanship is excellent! I had a check engine light that came up recently and the dealership was going to charge me a crazy fee to get it repaired plus I had to drive all the way to Walnut Creek from San Mateo. I asked them if they could take a look and if there was a person nearby who they trusted would help me. They invited me to their shop and had a mechanic nearby come and check the car out at no charge and also introduced me to him (he is also fantastic!)
