The sour taste threw me off. I guess if you love sourdough (I do but I guess not as much as I thought), you will like everything in here. The sticky bun is probably great for people who love a bit of sourness in their baked goods. I just want a regular sticky bun which is softer and like a cloud. This version is not. stopped by purebread twice during the week, and it was interesting to see how different the…read moreexperience could be depending on the day and time. there are two purebread locations in whistler, the village location right by olympic plaza and the original location down in function junction. the bakery started with mark and paula lamming selling their homemade baking at the whistler farmers' market before opening their first storefront in function junction in 2010. since then, it's grown from a small local bakery into a well known bc brand, with a huge rotating selection of sweet and savoury baked goods. and there's a lot more than croissants here. purebread is known for its ever changing selection of scones, cookies, brownies and dessert bars, savoury pastries, pies, toasties, cakes and breads, so there's usually plenty to tempt you even if your first and second choice is sold out. on friday, we stopped by before 11:30 am and there was already a line up, but thankfully the wait wasn't too bad. we picked up an ooey gooey chocolate chip bar and a chocolate almond croissant, both very solid choices. by comparison, a late monday afternoon visit had no line up at all, which was a completely different experience from the weekend crowds that can stretch right out the door. the catch with coming later in the day? there weren't any croissants left. there were also quite a few flies hovering over the baked goods, which wasn't ideal, but otherwise it was an easy stop for a pastry and coffee in the village. definitely worth going earlier if you're after the popular pastries, especially the croissants. the monday afternoon visit was great for skipping the line, but the friday morning stop proved that sometimes the line is there for a reason.

As soon as I was done with them, the same boss lady came over and basically asked me to leave because "there were families looking for a table." She even had the audacity to tell me to "read the room." At this point it had been 42 minutes since I entered the establishment and about a half hour since I received my order. I was seated at the smallest table in the place and not taking up much space at all. It would have been tough for even two people to squeeze in to the table where I was seated. Adding insult to injury, in between my two interactions with the boss, a customer rudely asked when I would be leaving. It took all my strength to politely offer to share the table with her, but she just said she wanted the whole thing to herself. So in the span of about 20-25 minutes I had 3 separate conversations trying to justify my existence at this tiny table. It was unreal and I honestly thought I may have been on some hidden camera television show. This place basically wants to take your money and then rush you out so they can get more people in there. I understand the obvious dollars and cents motivation for this, but it's crass and callous and completely unbecoming of even a small town coffee shop. I travel about 200 days a year and I've been to literally hundreds of terrible coffee shops, but I've never in my life been treated this poorly as a paying customer. Maybe just place a big sign informing everyone of a time limit on how long they can sit. Or at least tell the guy who walks in with a laptop bag and blatantly sets up his laptop that he can't hang out there (like I said I was unaware of the policy so obviously wasn't hiding anything). I would have paid double, even treble, to just be informed in advance so I could patronize a different local business in Whistler and avoid that experience.

I ordered a 12 oz hot latte, and was pretty good. The espresso was strong and flavorful, and surprisingly, the drink wasn't overly sweet. I expected the maple and hazelnut syrups to make it much sweeter, but the flavors were well balanced. It was also very creamy. I'd definitely recommend it if you enjoy a strong latte that's not too sweet. They also sell sandwiches and baked goods. I was really tempted to try the giant oatmeal cookie, but I noticed a fly roaming around on top of it, which quickly changed my mind. The café itself is pretty small, with only a few tables inside, but there's plenty of outdoor seating and lots of places to relax around Whistler Village. One downside is that they don't have outlets available for charging cell phones.

Others have said they aren't traditional Aussie pies and I get that if that is your expectation. I always try to appreciate the cafe for their take on the food items. Peaked Pies didn't disappoint. It is a small spot with just a few tables outside and a few tables inside. The eatery gets pretty busy so we felt lucky to get a table inside. They have a lot of choices and we settled on the ones we wanted to try. I went with the veggie pie and added the mushy style peas, mashed potatoes and gravy to the top. Mr. B decided on the Kangaroo pie after talking to the staff. He was a little leary of where the Kangaroo came from, but we were told there is a farm in British Columbia that raises them, so he wanted to try something he had never had. Please see the note below about the kangaroo. There is a correction. The pies came out and were quite large, but we must have been hungry and they were scrumptious we finished them off. Let's start with the veggie pie. It was filled with veggies, carrots, potatoes, onion, corn, celery and yams. The sauce is a coconut milk based sauce and was creamy. The Hopper, with ground kangaroo was lovely. The pie is filled with ground kangaroo, and I mean ground, it was fine meat and stuffed full with a Cabernet Merlot Balsamic Reduction that balanced the sweetness of the meat. The service was great, the staff was nice, and helpful. Great choice. NOTE: I received a correction from the owner of Peaked Pies after posting this review. The Kangaroo is not sourced from British Columbia as we were told. While the food was excellent this was disappointing to hear. Mr. B specifically asked where the kangaroo was sourced as he didn't want frozen and would have ordered something else. I wanted to let you all know I was wrong as we were given inaccurate information from the staff.

It was really messy to eat. The crust was good and flaky, but the filling was nothing to write home about. It wasn't very thick and I guess I was expecting something more like a chicken pot pie. Again, this was my first time trying an Aussie pie, so maybe it's just my taste buds, but I wasn't too impressed.
