This July I needed some brickmold work on an exterior door, and Steve did superb work to resolve all issues involved. When I called Fix It People for minor followup on that work, Steve responded within two hours, explained what needed to be done, and fixed it. In 2023, Steve did work on two other doors, and added an extension to a downspout gutter, and two years later all that work has held up superbly. I would not hesitate to ask Fix It People to assign Steve for any tasks I might need in the future. Where do I even begin? The only reason they get any stars at all is simply because the work eventually got done (sort of). I started with sending them a note requesting a quote, I explained my project to get two bigfold doors in detail including that the doors would not be standard size and would need to be custom. They said no problem and provided me with what seemed like a reasonable quote. They required a deposit upfront, while I thought it was a little odd I went and paid it. Several days later someone came out to measure the doors (great progress). Several more days pass I get a communication that the doors need to be custom ordered as they are not standard size (information I already knew and informed them of when requesting my original quote but they acted like it was new news). That was frustrating but fine, so then they sent me an email they wanted another $500+ upfront on top of the $500+ downpayment that was already done. Keep in mind outside of measuring the door no actual work was done on the project and they wanted a total of $1000. I disagreed with this and tried to attempt to respectfully end the project. Then I was informed there was a fee for cancellation of the project in addition to a restocking fee for the custom doors (not sure how you restock doors that have not been manufacted yet but ok). So I would be out $500 if I canceled so I sucked it up and gave them the additional $500 so they could order and manufacturer the custom doors. Almost a MONTH later I get an email that the doors are ready (I thought they needed to be restocked so how are they just now ready?). Whatever fine, I set up time for the tech to come out and install the doors in my home. One door gets installed, Yay progress, looks great. Then they went to the other door....its far to big, how is that possible? I paid for custom cut doors, that's what the extra fee was for. I told the guy who came to install that I paid for custom cut doors and he disagreed and said I only paid for one (which makes absolutely no sense). But whatever, so the gentlemen took to door with them and said they would cut it at the shop. Fine what could I do. A few days later they came back and installed the door. It fit great and while I was annoyed with the whole process I was happy to be done. Now I just needed to pay the final remaining balance due once the service was complete (it was about $600 outstanding and again this was $500 more than the original quote). This is when I get the "joy" to chat with Visare, someone who clearly never worked a day in customer service or how to interact with people. 4 days after I received the final invoice the threats began mostly consisting of threating to put a lien on my property....what? Its 4 days late and you are theating me? Then I get accused of them "trying to contact me multiple times to resolve the balance via text, email and phone. I have all of my records and they made very little effort to contact me about resolving the outstanding balance so I simply forgot about it (that part is on me). Now we get to today, again a text message and email threatening to put a lien on my property. There is no empathy or compassion or any offer to work with me if I was having a problem. It was pay us right now or we will put a lien. I paid, the project is done, but I would never work with them again based on customer service alone. Its a shame because the work that did get done wasn't bad it was the customer service and hostile communication that was the problem along with a project taking over a month to get accomplished. If you want my advice, find someone else. read more

I have used this company several times in the past and always with excellent results. My latest experience with them, just this past week, was not quite as good. This time around, the handyman did not seem to be informed regarding the details of the projects. He seemed annoyed when I asked a few clarifying questions. He was not at all neat or careful in his approach to the work and did not remove any of debris or old parts. One portion of the project he could not complete as he indicated "no one" sold the correct part. When I questioned this further, he indicated he had only been to Home Depot, and made no other attempt at finding the correct part to finish the job. When I indicated that a hardware store down the block likely had what was needed, he said he could not shop there as he did not have a credit card. i find this unacceptable. The company should provide their handymen with the ability to shop wherever needed to complete a job. Additionally, during the quoting process and prior to the job starting, proper measurements should have been taken so the correct parts could be sourced ahead of time. Instead i was stuck waiting at home for him to return (after about 90min) with the wrong piece that wouldn't work for my space. I mentioned the incomplete work to my office contact, and while they did remove the cost of that portion of the work from my final invoice, they made no offer to source the correct part and finish the job. I'll likely give them one more try down the road when I need handyman help, as all my past experiences were very good. However if these inefficiencies repeat, I'll be moving on to another handyman service. read more

As stated in other reviews, they leave out many details in the initial quote that add considerable costs that should not have been omitted. In my experience, I sent 20+ photos of the work to be done, and not only did the majority of the work not communicated to the worker, but he also made two visits, and both times claimed that none of the quoted work was on his list to do. After the two trips, I canceled the remaining work to be done, only to get an invoice for more than that quoted work. They claimed to have given me a discount but proceeded to invoice $200 more than the original quote, even though half of the work still needed to be done. I don't recommend them for anything outside of small repairs and fixes. The small work was done without issue. BEWARE of the quote they give you unless it's a simple task they will add large costs to it. read more

Highly recommend Fix It People with any home maintenance and repair. For the longest time I was set on using an independent contractor who does a lot of work in my building. It was impossible to coordinate with his schedule and his communication was subpar. That is when I finally decided to reach outside of my comfort zone to an outside company -- such a great decision! I only needed some minor work done in my bedroom: install new baseboards & paint the walls and ceiling. Fix It People treated my job with the upmost importance. I was quoted quickly, communicated with effectively and promptly, and was on their schedule in just a couple of days. I was extremely satisfied with their work, especially the painting. And I am looking forward to using them again. It seems they have a "no task is too big or too small" mentality. It's great to know they are willing to accommodate "simpler" tasks such as changing a light fixture to much more involved and complicated projects. After leaving my previous review, the general manager Brent did reach out via email and ask what they could do to remedy the situation. If I'm being totally honest, I took a few days to reply even though he offered a 25% discount. But at the end of the day, my complaint was just with the one estimator originally assigned to my request; everyone else I spoke with was prompt and polite. And I was having difficulty finding another contractor that could do both the electrical and dry wall repair work. In my reply to Brent, I was really clear about my concerns: I wanted to be sure they understood my full request, and I wanted the option to break out re-painting and re-wallpapering the areas affected. Brent was very accommodating: he reviewed the original estimate and clarified the electrical jargon for me; and I absolutely felt validated when we realized that one of my asks--a kitchen light, of all things--never made it to the original estimate. From there, approving the estimate, paying the deposit, and scheduling the work were all a breeze. Whatever system Fix It People uses was super intuitive. I got an email confirmation when the work had been scheduled that included the names of the people I should expect to do which tasks on which days. Both Toufik and Raul were on time, tidied up and left their equipment out of the way when they left each day, and most importantly, they did a great job, even finishing a little ahead of schedule! read more

$240 for 35 minutes of work To be honest, I did not know home repairs at all. I chose them because I trusted their expertise and the online reviews. It turned out that I was so wrong. After the virtual walk-though with the estimator, I did not hear anything back for two weeks. After following up with them, I finally received a quote 30 days after the walk-through. They said the projects would probably take 3 hours and gave me a quote of roughly $300, including the materials. I trusted them without thinking twice and approved the quote. The guy came and fixed the issues in 35 minutes. It turned out that the estimator was wrongly calculating the price and time needed. So I paid $240 for 35 minutes of work (I did not need the materials as stated in the quote). DO NOT GO AND WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Take your own risks. read more

First, I will provide the one positive with our project - the main technician assigned to our project did outstanding work. He was creative with helping us find some solutions due to damage done to some of the project materials by another worker, and he did an amazing job with installing a stained glass transom window as part of the project. Where the positives end is with the worker who started our project and with the project manager. This is where our experience with "Fix it People" was terrible. The first worker created a lot of damage, and made the overall experience a negative one. Due to damage that the first worker did to our project materials and walls as well as how the project manager handled our report of the damage, I wouldn't recommend working with Fix It People. Here are the issues we had with our project: * The initial quote left out many project details. We asked if the things not listed were included, and they put together an updated quote to include all details with a higher cost that made sense to us. They assured us that everything was in the updated quote, with the exception of electrical work. * When they sent us a change order for a reasonable electrical quote, they tacked on about $2,000.00 of other "miscellaneous" charges that seemed to be repair to walls where the moulding was removed, damaging mouldings and walls. The change order quote nearly doubled the original quote. When we asked for clarification, they advised "there is some other stuff that wasn't in the first quote" even though our estimator had assured us everything we detailed for the project was in the quote. * We asked as part of the original quote to have vintage ceiling and wall mouldings removed to then be re-used, and were told this would be no problem. Overall there was about 30 ft of 100+ year old vintage ceiling moulding to be repurposed, however, the worker damaged beyond reuse all but 1 ft of the moulding. He broke up the other 29 ft so badly that he removed from the house (not sure what he did with it), and left about 6 ft of busted up moulding with the 1 useable ft * Another worker inspected the damaged mouldings and said that it was going to be hard to find replacement mouldings and most of it couldn't be reused * There was about 18 ft of chair rail moulding, and only 4 ft of the chair rail was useable (the rest was also mysteriously gone) * Due to damage done, we ran around the city to every hardware store/lumber center we could think of to try to find a replacement. They do not stock anything like mouldings made in the early 1900's. We ended up spending about $200 to replace mouldings that should have been reusable, and Fix It People did nothing to offset the cost of replacing what their worker damaged. * We reached out to them about the damaged mouldings and walls and they told us we would not be charged for the work done by the worker who did the damage, however, there was no concrete dollar amount provided of what would be removed from the final invoice. We had no assurance or anything in writing that would substantiate how we were going to be credited for the damage * The electrician left an electrical outlet hanging loose from the wall and they didn't arrange for anyone to come out to fix. * On the final invoice, they had not removed any charges and still charged us for the work that we were to be refunded for, in fact, the final invoice was more than the original quote + the change order quote. When we questioned about removing the charges for the worker who damaged the mouldings and walls, they said "oh, we took that out, but if we hadn't it would have been much more than what you are seeing". Nothing was itemized on the labor charges, and they never provided a concrete amount that was allegedly removed from the invoice. They refused to update the invoice to show details of what we were being charged for, and to clarify the exact amount that we wouldn't be charged for. * All in all, we had most of our 100+ vintage mouldings damaged beyond re-use, we were charged for the "work" done by the worker who did the damage, we were charged for the labor for another worker to repair the wall damage, we were charged more than we approved, and our final cost was double the original quote * The project was supposed to be 4 days, however, they added 3 additional days to the project to keep billing us Hope this helps someone else. Update: After leaving my initial review, the manager reached out, offered a discount to remedy the situation, and explained their perspective on the matter. I went ahead and adjusted my review to reflect this. Original: I want to start out by saying that the porch repair work that we got done by Steven was well done. He was also very pleasant to work with, explained the issue, and how we can better maintain the porch moving forward. My complaint focuses on the inaccuracy of the quote compared to the final bill. We decided to go with Fix-It People because their quote seemed fair and was within our budget for this project. The final bill, however, came in over 50% higher than they had estimated. I understand that estimates may not always be accurate, but this was a significant difference. Additionally, their estimate was made based on photos. If there's a risk of this level of inaccuracy, they should have somebody come out in-person to assess the work rather than rely on photos. Regardless, the initial invoice had stated "Any significant change in cost will be communicated up front and will reflect on the final invoice." I was never notified of such a change at any point in the process, only when we got the final bill. Upon reaching out to customer service, I was told that there were higher supply costs than they had initially considered. I wasn't told why. The only compromise they were able to offer was to take away the supply mark-up, which still put us at over 40% higher than the original estimate. I finally requested that we meet in the middle but never received a reply, and instead they billed me with my credit card that was on file. read more

I requested for a repair service to replace shower cartridge in our bathroom. However first thing I was required was a deposit without any assurance and it wasn't clear that it was non-refundable. Then a service person was dispatched and didn't even bother checking more detail and rather tried to check few parts then came to a conclusion that the whole drywall needs to be cut open to replace whole pipes. Which estimated cost increased from $260 minimum to $3,400 minimum. What made me want to leave a review here is that I decided to reach out to another place for a second opinion and I was told it can be fixed by simply replacing a shower cartridge and parts of existing shower trim. So I reached back to the finance team here and without any explanation that 140 isn't refundable which made me pay 140 for a 5 min visit. Definitely will not use this business in future as I'm questioning the quality of dispatched service people. TLDR; Shower broke, needed help, this company charged $140 for 5 min assessment then quoted me for $3,400 for simple cartridge replacement. read more
