Fjord is my go to fish market and I can definitely recommend it for that. However, when I tried to place an order for appetizers for a holiday party I was told they don't do anything other than pigs in a blanket and mini crab cakes at holiday times. Since holidays and special occasions are the times when people would naturally order appetizers and other prepared foods, not offering service during the holidays is a deal killer for me. We decided to buy local for New Years Eve, King Crab legs....a bit more than Stew Leonard's where we normally go. The legs were small with little or no meat in them, very disappointed! Was a bit concerned by the poor food and management comments posted her recently especially about the tough fish and rude management people. Happily when we picked up salmon and a range of sushi items earlier this week all was good. Our food was fresh, tasted very nice and the service team was very polite and positive. Maybe there has been a change in manager and attitude given the recent posted bad impressions here? Legitimately if I could give this place 0 stars I would. The management is comprised of some of the nastiest people I've ever dealt with. They publicly screamed at me when I forgot my ticket number on Christmas Eve. Is that the spirit? I had my last name the order phone number and could recite every item verbatim. They told me they wouldn't be able to serve me. It was over $200 and was prepaid! What do you mean you can't give me my order? I first ordered Fjord about a month ago. Gave 24 hour notice for delivery only to find out the morning of my delivery that the crab dip was not available. I understand we are in a strange time, so I figured no problem, it happens. I ordered again two weeks ago for delivery today only to receive the order with part of it missing. I called Fjord and the man on the phone said "oh we sent you an email that we were out of steamer clams". I check my email and it was sent 15 minutes prior (during the delivery time slot). When I said I gave two weeks notice, he said they could not estimate supply that far out. I have now ordered with 24 hours lead time and two weeks lead time and both times been disappointed by a 15 minute notice on Fjord's end that they cannot deliver. Thankfully, I was able to order a pound of fresh steamers from Match Lobster for delivery in 25 minutes. read more

Bought a Red Snapper in April 2021 whole fish in their Darien store: $34.99 per pound total $87.82 for 2.51 pounds when it is usually $11 a pound in most fish stores. They are insanely expensive and not even better fish or selection than most stores. Give yourself a favor avoid them. read more

Unfortunately this place is over (maybe not unfortunately but justifiably so) The fact that everything is absurdly overpriced is probably tolerated by patrons for one reason only - freshness of the fish (that's the well deserved one star) Poke bowl for lunch is where 4 missing stars went. Rice was dry pretty sure was cooked the day before but this is the easy part of the dish - pea gravel is not what supposed to be in there. There was barely any choices to add to rice and fish (only 3 fish to choose from). It came out looking like something a 5 year old would make, but here comes the best part - it was $20!!!!!!!! Ordered a platter for Christmas Eve over a week in advance. They charged my card and when I went to pick up the platter, they said that they were unable to get the items. No notice, no offer of substitution, no future discount. Nothing. Do not rely on this place for any holiday or catering orders! They can't always deliver and they don't give you notice. Today I decided to splurge on something that I was hoping to be incredibly delicious. I normally order salmon from other places but decided on Fjord because it was close to home and want to support local... Wound up spending much more than I wanted $40 one pound. For " Wild Alaskan King Salmon" I was confident calling ahead (to pay ) and also asking for even middle sized pieces, it would save me time and I would have professional cut. When I got home, one piece was thick and large . The other looked torn and very thin not sliced properly. I called and the lady who immediately was defensive and said one piece was from the head section and that this is the way the fish comes. I asked to exchange. So I went back. The pieces in the case were not appealing ( color was dull) but since I already paid and had prepared to cook, I took one similar size to the other slice. Went home and After cooking, fish had a definite after taste. I only eat wild or sustainable salmon ( have no problem paying more for the quality). This unfortunately tasted like Farmed raised that you would eat in a mediocre restaurant . Very disappointed in how my order was managed and the quality I am pretty sure ....is not what I was charged for. I will not be going back... Best fish store ever! I've lived in a lot of places and have had access to some great fish. The fish is extremely fresh, never frozen, mostly Atlantic. The store doesn't even smell "fishy". Great, friendly and knowledgeable service. They even make sushi now in house!!! read more

This should be a 4.5 but Yelp hinders me.  Clean fish. Knowledgeable staff. Good variety. Well presented.  Downside: Very expensive - but you get what you pay for... The staff are always great. The place is always clean. They also offer a small selection of cocktail and tartar sauces but if you're looking for something specific, go across the street to Stop & Shop. Sometimes they have vegetables but those are not so fresh usually. Stick with the fish. You can't go wrong. This is what they know and do so well. read more

All of these reviews are old. There's no question about the fish looking good. I've been sold salmon that was too old so I'm more circumspect about what I buy there because I don't know how long they keep it on ice. But my real issue with the Westport store is the help. Lewis, the manager, is a good guy but the rest of his team -- meh and just unbelievably RUDE. It's actually shocking that this store would let these guys represent them. One short guy addresses customers with -- 'what do you want'? And should you step over to maybe pick up panko bread crumbs, he continually says, 'is that all'? 'is that all'? like a parrot and rushing when there's no other customer in the store. I always hope he's not there when I go in and cringe when he is. Don't even think that you'll get a thank you or a receipt. You get, 'what do you want'? Well, I want to ask him, 'When did you get out of jail?' I just don't get it. It's not like that in the New Canaan store. There's not another store in Westport ( maybe Stop&Shop which I avoid) where you'll encounter the crude level of sales help who shouldn't be serving the public. read more

I went on Saturday afternoon with some friends to pick up some fresh fish and a dozen oysters for dinner that night. We ended up with a pound and a half of sea bass, a dozen oysters, and some other small grocery items. The fish was OK, but not as fresh as they claimed: "arrived right off the boat this morning". Even if it was delivered right off some sort of boat that morning it had been on that boat for a while, so I felt like we were a bit mislead. The biggest issue was with the oysters. Out of 12 oysters (Blue Points at $1.50/each) 4 of them were dried up and dead. Once again, that really makes me question the freshness of their products. The last issue we ran into was with a swedish creamed fish roe paste we bought. It's my fault for not noticing this in the store, but once we got home I noticed the "Best if used by date" was June 8th 2013. It was June 29th 2013. Clearly this store is lacking in quality control if they're selling expired products and dead oysters. It's possible I just got unlucky and was there on a bad day, but I would not recommend this place to anyone and will certainly not be going there again. read more

It was our first visit tonight. We called in and wanted lobster, but at 45 minutes before closing they couldn't accommodate. That's okay. So we ordered a hot lobster roll and sushi. When we picked up, the hot lobster roll wasn't hot. Okay. When we got back to the car I tasted the lobster meat and decided it needed melted butter (after all, it's a lobster roll!!!). I went back in to ask for some melted butter and you would have thought I was asking for diamonds! The three gentlemen said flat out "no." I explained that all I wanted was a little bit of melted butter to pour on top. "No" they said. "We cook it in butter" they said. And they were firm! Them a woman walked out from the back and asked what I wanted. She said, of course, I'll give her butter. Well, thank YOU. I told them we were going to eat at the beach. They didn't offer napkins or plastic utensils. Okay, whatever. But seriously, at these prices (I perused the fish counter while I waited) I expected a more friendly, welcoming experience. The lobster roll and sushi were alright. Not the best we've ever had. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot. But I just felt that we were really bothering them by being customers. #disappointing. read more

On more than one occasion, we've gotten fish that was inedible when cooked. Both salmon and halibut practically liquified on the grill. It appears that the fish may have been frozen more than once, hardly fresh. I complained but was given the runaround even though we we go there almost weekly. Don't trust these people. I bought shrimp for a party and got it home and noticed my party servers were washing it and I asked why. They said "smell it". I did and I understood why they were washing it. I had been in twice before my party and noticed that the shrimp looked the same as it did the night before . I asked him if he had cooked it that morning and he said yes. He had told me the day before to come first thing sat morning when they cooked more. They had, obviously, not done it yet and he lied. Creepy guy who has worked there a long time and would risk losing a customer for a lie. This was 2014 and I have not been back and won't ever go back. The shrimp was not what you would want to serve. it was teetering on the edge but no one got sick probably bc my gal knew to wash it. I will go anywhere to get seafood to avoid this place.
