Almost $40 spent on a turkey sandwich, cookie, a loaf of sourdough bread and the WORST Chocolate Croissant I have consumed in my life: I feel cheated , Majorly disappointed and basically won't be returning. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, I had bookmarked it and had been following them in social media for a while. I finally came in last Sunday ( a few days ago) and ordered a bunch of stuff with the notion of giving it a fair chance. I have tasted Chocolate Croissants in every country I have visited , it's a staple. I have NEVER spit out a Croissant until now ! Why? Who ever that made this batch was not paying attention or didn't know what they were doing while mixing and added wayyyyy too much salt , when I bit into my pastry I ingested ALOT of hard salt . Disgusting. The exterior texture and color was ok, crunchy and slightly browned, there was NO sweet taste of Chocolate and I ingested Salt , gross! The chocolate toffee cookie lacked flavor , no sweetness and disappointed. So basically , just go for the bread. Skip the dessert , skip the sandwich. Don't be fooled by the marketing or the photos. I can still taste the salt and texture of it in my mouth. Gross! I don't recommend FKN bread , sorry guys. read more

Came here on a late morning for a croissant and was so pleasantly surprised with their assortment of baked goods!! I loved the ham & cheese croissant which was recommended to me. Got Christmas cinnamon rolls! Was so excited. Needed to wait in line to get them, but the line moved relatively quickly and they made SO many take and bake cinnamon rolls. They were delicious and so nice Christmas morning. We'd just moved, but wanted to host breakfast so this was easy and delicious. The flours were uninteresting, sourdough a bit undercooked, and it lacked the smell and chew of a great sourdough bread. Granted San Juan Capistrano is not SF but still, no where near what I was hoping in terms of sourdough. Short version: we won't be returning because there was a stray pecan in a non-nut baked good. -- We visited for the first time today and ordered a lemon poppyseed scone, a fruity pebble pound cake, lemon blueberry muffin, and butterscotch(?) blondie scone. We asked the person helping us if any of the above contained nuts because of an allergy of someone in our household. She said no. When we got home, we cut everything into pieces to share. We then found a pecan in the blondie scone. Thankfully, we noticed the pecan before the person with the allergy ate any of the scone. None of the other pieces of the blondie scone had nuts, so I think a stray pecan must have fallen into the batter and gotten baked into the scone. I understand that many bakeries don't guarantee nut-free equipment, but I at least expect whole nuts to not find their way into the wrong baked good. read more

I really wanted to give FKN bread more stars, as I watched it grow from Instagram into an actual business through the pandemic, which is truly impressive. The coffee was good but not my favorite, but hey, that's a subjective choice, everyone has their own taste, so I'm not knocking it. A little on the coffee 2.0 side, less roasted, which I like, quite a few winey notes. What I really had hoped would be better was the sourdough-as soon as I got my loaf and picked it up, I could feel the heft, which is usually not a good thing. Loaf was pretty dense, with a tight crumb-I had expected a more airy, artisan style bread with a hard, crunchy, chewy crust, maybe a few irregular large pockets, and just more of an open crumb, but it just wasn't there. The loaf didn't even look like it had been scored before baking, which is weird for a sourdough loaf. Anyway, I know how tough it is to produce sourdough day in, day out on a consistent basis, and maybe they just didn't have time to let it fully rise properly, or it was a cold day, or something, but I just know this could have been a better bread. And I will go back to try another loaf. But to get 4 or 5 stars, it's got to be consistently on point, and my loaf was just a bit short of the mark. read more

I was really excited to try the cinnamon rolls because everyone raves about them. However, the cinnamon roll was under baked and a little tough to eat. At $12 a boule, I expected the bread to not be life changing, but close to it. I purchased a cranberry walnut sourdough boule this week and was quite disappointed. The texture of the bread is a bit dense but it has a good taste. I'm not big on my sourdough being very notably sour and this isn't. However that's all that's good about this bread. You'll note that at the top, there's a lot of char; these are pieces of walnut and cranberry that are so charred that they are bitter and inedible. I can't tell if they were added to the top for looks or they were just not well mixed in, but it's quite awful to eat. The hallmark of anything with mix-ins is that the mix-ins are evenly distributed throughout. The first third of the bread had not a single walnut or cranberry. When I got to the center I saw that there was a huge cluster along the edges of just cranberry and that the walnuts had largely sunk to the bottom. There are bites that were just walnut where I may as well be eating a handful of Costco mixed nuts. We did purchase two sandwiches as well. They use Boar's Head meats and cheeses and the sandwiches are hearty and well balanced. It's a bit pricy though so it wouldn't be my first choice when picking a lunch option. However I'd take this sandwich over the bowl of ramen from across the street. Overall disappointed given the fun name. As a side note, while there's a lot of parking, it's mostly pay by the hour parking. For those two reasons, I'm likely not coming back. read more

Went for the first time today, wonderfully freshly baked sour dough bread in different flavors. I decided to go with an original and a Parmesan, both super fresh and amazing!! Also went with The Italian sandwich. Enough for two of my lunch breaks. I've been on a quest finding the most amazing croissant on the West Coast (being from Germany and frequently visiting France at the time the bar is high) and the butter croissant I had today was FKN amazing!!! Saw too late that they had almond croissant, customer came in while I was looking around and bought the final four. I read in the reviews they have a white chocolate croissant, will definitely come earlier in the day next time. Bree helped me out, great customer service as can be expected as she is the owner. I have not had great bread like this in ages! Due to a gluten allergy I have not been able to enjoy bread that tastes like ACTUAL bread. My naturopath who has had me on a pretty strict diet gave me the go-ahead to try this sourdough bread out. I didn't want to get my hopes up and expected to have a reaction after tasting the bread on their Italian sandwich (also delicious!) and was absolutely beside myself when I handled the bread well. Thankfully I purchased two loaves to try after passing the bread test (everything flavor and rosemary garlic) and embarrassingly enough I've consumed about a half of each loaf so far.
