Sophia and I were at Capstan Brewery on Friday night for Sound Check Bingo. Now you know I can't have any beer without any food. Well, leave it to Flame and Pie to fufill my cravings for the evening. This is actually the 2nd time I've ordered from them. And they have a pretty good reputation from foodies and food truck fanatics alike. Let's see if this selection hits my taste buds just right. For ordering, I just walked up to the front of the truck with not too long of a line and was greeted promptly by the staff, which consisted of only two people. Both were pretty busy with customers taking orders and cooking the food, but ran very efficiently with a pretty good vibe. Call it a food truck operating at full speed. The menu was in front for everyone to see. Inside, it looked very organized with pizza boxes on top of the oven as well. And in front, napkins, condiments and desserts in place. Not too clunky at all. My order was ready in about 15 minutes. I selected their 10" pickle bacon ranch pizza. Truly delicious. There was a lot of pickles and bacon on top along with ranch drizzle. And the crust had a bit of a crunch. I actually let Sophia eat half of my order and she enjoyed it too. Great pizza to go with some beer. Definitely can't beat that. Pickle on a pizza?!? Yes please! This pizza was everything I didn't know I needed. If you're a pickle-lover, get it! We also got an order of pretzels, and it was one of the best soft pretzels we've ever had! The cheese was warm and gooey with what looked like some pepper in it. One of the best pizzas on the Peninsula! Last visit they were at Sly Clyde and we tried the Detroit pizza, which was decadently cheesy. We also had one one of the delicious Nightingale ice cream sandwiches, which was definitely worth a try (although a little pricey.) More recently they stopped near my work and several of us ordered pizzas. They were ready at the time ordered, and they sent out text messages notifying us pizzas were ready. Everyone loved the pizzas. I ordered the Flaming Pie, which was excellent! Just enough spice in the sauce, sausage, and drizzle to add kick but not too much. Crust was chewy and just a little flame-charred. I'll be keeping an eye out for their schedule for my next visit! read more

Their pizza is pretty good but you have to wait almost an hour after you order to receive your food. If they could make some of their more popular options in advance or build a better system for cooking their pizzas it would make the whole experience getting food from them so much better. read more

When I tell you I HUNT this truck down, I'm not even kidding! I love the deep dish especially. I have too keep track when it's available, because it's not always. The portion sizes are huge, and the toppings are plentiful. I love the mobility of the truck and food, because it's always a new location new experience, and makes it that much more fun! I don't like to leave bad reviews but I am very hangry at this point. I did not get the chance to try the food due to their system glitching. When I arrived they told me I had to do an online order only. So I then went got my phone and did so.... Waited for more order and it was never received. The lady helping me was nice but when she asked for my phone number to text me when my order was ready I then asked her to cancel it since I used my entire lunch break. I thought maybe they would just make my pizza while I stood and waited for the inconvenience... Now I'm sitting here hangry and hopefully can try to food one day to change my opinion. read more

I came upon the truck a few years back on Buckroe Beach. The oven was hot to be near but so worth it! I ordered a slice of cheese pizza. Flame and Pie's pizza is simply delicious! We had the opportunity to have it at Oozlefinch's anniversary party as we smelled it from a mile away and were led to it with mouths watering! We ordered their BBQ chicken pizza which was absolutely delicious! The combination of sweet BBQ sauce, juicy chicken, tons of cheese, and thin crust made for a great pie! It was wood fired to perfection and we loved every bit of it! Also worth noting, it was $9 for this pie which fed both of us at three slices each and was very filling! These people are serving the most flavorful delicious pizza that you could ask for. We have tried a few pizzas here more than a few times & we have never been disappointed. They are very consistent. Tried this place out at Oozle Finch Brewery today! I have had their pizza one other time and it was fantastic. They have a wide selection of pizza (cheese, pepperoni, spinach, and several specialty pizzas). I love the fact that they use a brick oven to cook their pizzas. There's something about a homemade pizza that I just can't pass up! I ordered the pepperoni pizza today and it tasted AMAZING. It came out sizzling hot and only took about 10 minutes to make! They have buzzers that notify you when the food is ready. This is such a smart idea because it allows customers to walk around and enjoy their beers! Caught them at Oozlefinch Brewery today at Fort Monroe and it was definitely a pleasant snack while drinking a few beers! We've tried it once before and the food is consistently good. They offer a variety of different pizzas cooked in their outdoor brick oven. They have cheese, pepperoni, spinach, and a few others you can see in my picture of their menu. The people are extremely friendly and our order only took about 10 minutes to make. We got the pepperoni pizza. It came with 6 slices and was enough for my fiancé and I to split for an afternoon snack. You can tell it's been cooked in the brick oven. I love the burnt taste you get on the crust. They have those buzzers that you get in restaurants to let you know when your pizza is ready. Very convenient, as you can walk around and drink some beer while you wait! Most pizzerias in the area struggle with making a proper crust, but not Flame & Pie. Spot on.
