I love me a good crab cake, so when my best friend suggested Capt'n Crabby, I had to see what they were all about. My first visit was in late 2020 and the left a very good taste in my mouth (figuratively & literally). I got a crab BLT and really enjoyed it, and the sweet message on the box that said: "Thanks for the support" was enough to bring me back in for future visits. On my second visit, I was able to meet Mj the owner and she was very sweet! I can tell she works hard and puts a lot of work into her business. I also tried their Texan crab cake sandwich, and my God! It was one of the best crabcake sandwiches I've ever had. I was trying to eat the crumbs at the bottom of the box it was so good. I also recommend their old bay seasoned fries, and their flavored iced teas and lemonades. During my most recent visit, I was able to try their vegan crabcake sandwich made with artichoke and heart of palms. It was absolutely fabulous and almost tasted like the real thing. They came to my school for teacher appreciation week. The pta paid for the event, so I have no idea about if it was worth the money for reach item, but I would not pay more than $15 for my cheesesteak. It was crabby cheesesteak and there was no crab to be found. Just an old bay sauce on the bottom and it felt very rationed with the steak part. Pretty darn good crab cake from a mobile food truck! I found your food truck at a recent festival that I was attending. I wanted a crab cake with limited to no filter. I asked as I'm originally from Maryland, and crab cakes outside the state usually aren't good and contain too much filler. After assuring me that there was minimal filler in the crab cake, I ordered it and waited about 10 minutes for them to cook it. I did not get it with the crabby sauce. I don't know what is in it, and I am not a big sauce guy anyway!! After about 10 minutes, they called my name, and I picked up a piping hot crab cake on a roll with lettuce, tomato, and onion. I give them an A+ on food, especially from a food truck. Plus, they provided a bag of UTZ crab chips, it couldn't be better. I could have gotten french fries for an additional $2, but I opted for the chips. When we arrived for the event they had some veggies, a tray of some kind of dip with break that I did not try, but crab dip was phenomenal with bread. I met the two ladies who co-own the business. They have recently moved here from Colorado. They were both very personable and made not only me, but they other yelpers comfortable. I did elect to order a crab cake sandwich and it was really terrific. A little on the spicy side, but no big deal. I saw several other yelpers got various other items, so hopefully they review as I did. Now granted I didn't try the full menu, I only tried a few items. This food truck was used to provide samples for a recent party I attended. While the presentation was cute, the food was not good :( I was highly disappointed because I read such great reviews, but to my surprise it wasn't yummy at all. This is for the Taco Flavored Kisses Truck which I heard is owned by Capt Crabby. The tacos are 2 for $8 and I would not recommend them to anyone who loves tacos. Way over priced and the flavor is no where near what it should be. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? Maybe they cater to a different palate? I could not finish the chicken and carne asada tacos because they did not taste good at all. Street tacos double up the tortilla because they are small and full of meat, these were neither. The food was really good. The pickle almost stole the show! I had the crab cake sandwich Texas style. You would almost think those flavors were too strong for delicate crab meat. It almost is but it really was so good. I had the old bay corn on the side. Really good again almost too spicy but when your steal you husband's Mac and cheese to eat with it... perfection. Man, if I could give them no stars I would! I didn't feel like paying $15+ for a sandwich so opted for some "gumbo" on this cold winter day. Disappointed would be an understatement. They gave me what tastes like spicy tomato soup with uncooked white rice. They should not call this gumbo. I was delighted at how light it was despite being a mayo-based sandwich. The sandwich was overloaded with the shrimp salad, which is never a problem I'll complain about. Later, I had Capt'n Crabby again at their pop up event at The Boardroom. There, I met MJ and her husband who were both so lovely and friendly. Capt'n Crabby's catered our wedding in June 2017. We knew having a food truck at our wedding was the perfect representation of us as a couple. MJ was easy to get in touch with and put me at ease when I had a last minute change as my husband had to do most of the planning since I was living out of state right up to the week before the wedding. We loved having options for our guests as well and MJ was able to accommodate dietary restrictions for gluten free options (to an extent, keep reading for details). I could have easily given them a "5" star rating except for a few pieces that really bummed me out about the whole experience. Quite honestly I could have also easily give them a "2" star rating based off my experience although I feel like it could have been worse and I'm pretty easy going. Although I still have to share how upset I was with a few things and then on top of it all when I emailed to express my concerns and what ultimately bummed me out I got NO RESPONSE AT ALL!!! So MJ had spoke with both my husband and I and she had said she could do gluten free crab cakes (they said they could make them with glutino crackers instead) and that the other options were gluten free and would be able to be served on gluten free buns. We even had a follow-up conversation surrounding how many gluten free crab cakes we were wanting to have on hand. My Dad has celiac's disease and when I told him that gluten-free crab cakes would be available he was so excited! He was pretty bummed out when he went to order and they said the only gluten free option would be the barbecue with out the bun. So they didn't deliver on buns even! Although when my Dad found out that french fries were safe for him and gluten free he said he was so excited it kind of made up for it. Although as something we were told would be available wasn't and knowing multiple guests with gluten intolerances we had promised crab cakes were let down I was pretty sad to hear that Capt'n Crabby's didn't deliver. I was so excited to find a place in Norfolk that had crab pretzels. I'm a native of Maryland. And Crab pretzels are available, everywhere! The one I ordered today was very salty. Probably a little too much old bay. Which is okay.. I'm usually heavy handed with old bay also. But it had multiple chunks of large onions on the pretzel. That, I was not a fan of. I don't ever remember having crab dip with large chunks of onions in it. Even the crab pretzel I order from there previously, didn't have onions. I'm pretty disappointed. When starting this I was going to say good things about one item and could not choose where to start. What the heck! The crab cakes are served on a bread like a burger... And are great (had two of 'em)! The crab dip.... Exquisite! It was thick and clung to whatever you dipped in there. The only thing I didn't care for was the pumpkin crab bisque... IMHO Capt'n Crabby is the best food truck in Denver. It certainly has to be the most unique and authentic, because I do not know any other food truck that is serving Maryland style crabcakes made from jumbo lump crab that are neither greasy nor soggy. These crabcakes are incredible! Additionally, the Capt'n (originally from the East Coast) offers a terrific variety of authentic East Coast flavors to those in the high desert of Colorado. From the Dog in a Bathtub to My Dog's Got Crabs to the Pit Beef and the Vespa, you can't go wrong ordering some of the non-crab menu items. My Dog's Got Crabs, which is only available in the summer is hands down one of the best food items to ever come out of any kitchen, let alone a food truck. They use authentic all beef hot dogs and then put a heaping portion of crab salad dusted with Old Bay and some peppers. It is incredible. From the snap and spice of the dog to the creamy sweet briny goodness of crab this dish is truly delicious. I honestly think that the variety of offerings found at Capt'n Crabby is so unique and so consistently good that he can do for seafood what Roy Choi did with Kogi. I recently moved to Denver from the D.C. area and I have been looking for a decent crab cake sandwich. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to exist in Colorado. Until I stumbled on Capt'n Crabby's food truck while wandering around LoDo. Light and sweet crab, some of which the proprietor's parents ship from Maryland, falling out of the bread as soon as you bite into it. Their crab cake sandwiches are not quite as lumpy as what I'm used to in D.C., but the flavor was incredible, AND they had some Old Bay flown in from the East Coast since Old Bay isn't sold in Denver. The sandwiches are already seasoned very well, but a little Old Bay is a taste I can't resist. I noticed some of the other folks that commented on Capt'n Crabby's mentioned the price. It was only 5 dollars for a slider, and only 12 for a massive sandwich, and it was worth every penny. Capt'n Crabby currently has a monopoly on crab cake sandwiches in Denver. The sandwiches come with free chips which is totally awesome, who doesn't like a little extra something free of charge.
