This is the closest FB to my house. I wasn't going to bother writing a review for it but I just tried their newest item.... the tofu bowl. Growing up with a vegan mom there was nothing worse than hearing the word "tofu". I'd cringe... dry heave...... God how I just wanted some frickin' meat. Fast forward to my older self. Now I love tofu. I cook with it pretty much every week and eat it often at restaurants. My mom the other day was telling me how she just tried the tofu bowl at FB and she loved it. My younger self would have rolled his eyes and made a "pttthh" sound but my aging current self was interested to try it. My 18 year old self would never in a million years guess he'd be ordering a tofu bowl from a teriyaki bowl place and saying he loves it. Man... it's great. They marinate the tofu and then grill it. It has the same chargrilled flavor and caramelization as the chicken except you don't have to worry about any gristle pieces. I had it with the veggies and topped it with my usual ratio of 2 magic sauce and 1 hot sauce and a pile of jalapeños. Fantastic. This location is pretty small but the staff is nice and it's always packed. They have a frequent buyer card but will never tell you about it. You have to ask. I only knew when I saw another customer handing it over. Like all FB the meat is inconsistent. One time you'll get the most perfect chicken or beef bowl and the next time you'll get a ton of gristle. read more

I stay away due to them being so stingy with sauces. When I say they I mean the owners. If it's a worker they will maybe give you one more than they "should". If you get more they want to charge you. I haven't had Flame Broiler in a long time. I was happy that I happened upon this place while picking up pizza for the rest of the family. I ordered the regular Chicken and Vegetable Bowl with white meat which I paid extra for. I thought the chicken was not that great. I had some bad, fatty pieces and I don't think those are any fun. The chicken also didn't seem fresh. It seemed like it had been sitting for awhile and then was reheated on the grill. The veggies, rice, and sauce was still the same as I remembered. I usually will drive to this flame broiler even though it is further away from where I live as it is fresher with chicken cooked as you order & not sitting in a tray all day. The issue isn't the food but the reward program. Today I ordered 2 chicken bowls which one of them was free as I had 10 stamps. When I got my receipt & the other loyalty card back I notice it did not get stamped. I asked the cashier if I could get my stamp for the bowl I had paid for but she denied me saying that since I got a feee bowl I cannot get a stamp. I said that I had ordered 2 bowls & paid for 1 so I should get 1 stamp. The cashier said she was sorry but the policy is if you get a free bowl you can't get a stamp even if you purchased more bowls at the same time. I said well had I known I would of done 2 transaction which is complete stupid but she said yes you could of done that & people do that. This has never happened before & nowhere on the card does it say that. The card actually reads get a stamp with full price purchase of a regular bowl. This is not the first issue I have had with the reward program the other time I got screwed over was when I ordered a regular bowl & a mini bowl & the owner gave me the mini for free & not the regular which again it is not what the card reads plus he never gives me a stamp for the mini bowls yet he gives me the mini for free just to save himself like 50 cents. I felt this was cheap for him to do especially because the free bowl is a regular size & stamps are only given for regular bowls. This is what you get for being loyal I guess cheap ownership. He's rude and if it wasn't for the discount card that I bought from the high school I wouldn't even go to this one! I have been going to this location 1-2 times a week for nearly 6 months. I have enjoyed the food but have noticed the quality of the meat has been going down - less tender and a bit more gristle. I had accepted this reality and chose to live with it as I appreciated the fact that they have been open for business during these challenging times and are doing their best to continue operations. The the staff was always cheery and polite. I was a loyal customer...until yesterday. Unfortunately, this location has now instituted a policy of limiting the number of sauces you are allowed. Yes, now you are limited to the number of tiny containers of sauce to 3 per sauce per customer. These are the "Magic Sauce", "Hot Sauce", "Double Hot Sauce" etc. (of course prior to Covid-19 you could help yourself to as much as you wanted as there were pumps in each franchise like you would see for ketchup at McDonalds but I digress). These days (likely due to Covid-19) they are pre-packaging them into tiny little containers of less than an ounce so limiting them to 3 each is literally like getting 3 tiny packets of Ketchup with a large order of french fries and if you like ketchup you know that ain't enough. Note: I presume limiting the number of sauces to 3 is a policy of this location only as it is unlikely that this is a franchise-wide edict. Here's how the conversation went down...once my order was ready the host asked me if I would like any sauce and I said, "Yes, 1 Magic and 4 Hot sauce please". Her response was "Sorry I am only allowed to give out 3 of each per customer". When I explained that I wanted 4 of the Hot Sauce I was told again by this person that she was "only allowed to give out 3 per person". Finally, I shared that I simply preferred to have 1 more and that I always use all the sauce I get, again I was met with "I am sorry but I am only allowed to give you 3". I said "By who...the owner?". She just shrugged her shoulders and repeated the line "I am only allowed to give out 3". I told her that I thought that was dumb and that if this in-fact is the case then this would be the last time I will ever come to this location. Having owned and operated my own business before I thought it was imperative that she share my thoughts with the owner. I asked her to please share with the owner our interaction and let him/her know that based on this new arbitrary policy I will no longer be coming to this location. There is a Flamer Broiler in Los Alamitos (which is equal distance from my residence) which will now have my on-going business as I presume they do not have the same policy. I can't imagine that the cost savings of holding back less than an oz of "Hot Sauce" this location is saving is worth losing $16+ a week from a regular customer? The old adage "pennywise pound foolish" comes to mind. Be warned...if you like the hot sauce go elsewhere. read more
