Didn't feel like a regular breakfast so I ordered a chicken ceasar salad with a coffee. I was given a number tag and so I waited for my number to be called. As the kitchen was busy, I had expected to wait a little. In less than 5mins, someone brought me my salad. The box was huge and their serving was big too, I ate it for both breakfast & lunch. I came here w a friend since they have a wide variety of different opinions and we wanted choices as I wasn't totally sure what I was in the mood for. Really friendly staff. Ambience was loud. If you ask for your bacon extra crispy on your burger, it will come out rubbery and not extra crispy... even tried, saying extra extra crispy, and that still didn't work. I guess their people don't know how to follow directions or they just don't care.. If you ask for something like extra lettuce on your hamburger, they want to charge you $.75 but I bet people ask for no lettuce all day long, and do not get a discount. Has anyone else noticed the shrinking salads at the Cypress location? I picked up a chicken salad today, and it was maybe three quarters the size it usually is. I buy this salad regularly and really enjoy it, so it was disappointing to see such a noticeable change from just last week. Was going here at least 1x/week, but no more. Charged $4.00 to make a California burger a double. When I inquired if a burger was charged $4 more to make it a double, the boy at the window said yeah it costs that much more for the extra burger, cheese, lettuce and tomato. The drive-up menu says $1.50-2.00 more for a double. Well, they didn't add anything extra except the burger and there was even less lettuce and tomato than a regular sandwich! paul's place is a cypress classic! my family and i have been coming ever since we moved here back in 2012. they serve classic american diner food, but also have some delicious greek and mexican meals available. we love the gyro and carne asada tacos! the breaded mushrooms are also something that i personally have never seen in other diners/restaurants and are delicious!! the portion sizes are huge and are definitely shareable, but also good to keep all for yourself! the workers are all always very friendly and helpful from my experience, and food always comes quickly! if you choose to dine in, you will definitely get a classic diner vibe which is always fun. highly recommend for anyone in the area! :) read more

I opted for the California Deluxe Burger which is basically a sourdough patty melt with bacon, avocado, and extra cheese. My god it looks good and the taste was pretty damn good. My wife got a regular cheeseburger and that one tasted like a good quality burger as well. We shared sweet potato fries and they were nice and crispy. We always ask for ranch on the side to pair fries and their ranch is top tier too! Everything was great, but a little pricey. $9 for my burger, $6.50 for a regular cheeseburger, and $6 for sweet potato fries is a pretty expensive dinner. I get that it's a local business but it's a bit much for just 3 items on the menu. This is what I got when I ordered a gyro salad to go. I have no idea what this is, but it was not gyro meat and did not meet my expectations. It was some sort of rice wrapped in leaves. The olives had pits and the salad was iceberg, so mostly water. I would suggest checking your food before you leave to make sure you get served what you ordered. read more

Been a Paul's place customer for many years, mostly take out from the Los Alamitos store ... today we saw the Knott Avenue store and decided to have Breakfast! Not one damned thing was correct in our two orders, and when they delivered our food they didn't bring my wife's milk ... she had to chase them down for it to be brought over. What's more, they no longer serve you on real plates, they use this cardboard shit they make cartons out of that you're cutting through (and eating) by the end of your meal. They no longer trust you with real silverware, they give you plastics utensils you buy for a little kid's birthday party! The cup for the coffee is no longer a real cup, its cardboard as that doesn't keep the coffee hot, Then (as someone who has a beard) they make you beg for more than the two napkins they gave us (for both meals). Bullsh#t!!! If I wanted to go on a picnic I would! I came in here to eat in a restaurant with real plates, real metal utensils, and not having to beg for napkins! I will never eat in Paul's again. I likely won't do take out anymore either. It was all about the mushrooms originally, their food was never spectacular, and now the are plenty of places that serve mushrooms just tasty. It might be hard to believe, from this rant, but it takes a lot to piss me off, but the managed it ... I think the final straw was having to beg for napkins because they only gave us two and I have a full beard .. I explained I needed more because my beard ... she brought three more paper napkins! I was in the area and was at the stop light, saw the sign for the drive thru. Looked up the restaurant and saw its an actual dinner and I could also sit inside. I looked at the menu and photos; and so glad I did. You order at the front, then sit anywhere in the restaurant you like and they bring the food to your table: plenty of booth seating and also has an enclosed patio outside. The customer service was friendly. I ordered the chicken fried steak, over medium eggs, home fries (that include bell peppers and onions with the chopped square potatoes) and added cheese to them, and sourdough for my choice of bread. Everything is absolutely delicious. They also have orange marmalade as apart of their jelly selection on the tables which is now my new favorite. They have one size for their hot chocolate, but it's quite a large cup and stays hot. They also asked if I would like whipped cream. I used to work in cypress and always grabbed food here. Their portions are great for the price. I can never finish my Greek chicken salad. They never skimp on feta cheese or Kalamata olives. Their zucchini fries are huge. I've never seen anyone I know complain about their burgers or sandwiches either. The place is a diner/cafe type with fountain self serve station. I have never had a problem with servers giving me an extra ranch. Their ranch is delicious by the way. Glad I live closer to this location now, I'll frequent it more often. read more
