We visited on a weekend with a party of 12 and no reservation. Despite a large crowd outside, we only waited about 30 minutes -- pretty impressive. Parking is shared with nearby businesses, but there were plenty of spots. The dining area has lots of tables, though it's a little tight on space. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout. The food was delicious across the board. I ordered the Molcajete, which came loaded with refried beans, chorizo, avocado, potatoes, a sunny side up egg, carne asada, grilled slice of cheese, and pickled purple onions. The portions were huge -- I couldn't finish mine. The meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. I added shrimp for a little extra and it was absolutely worth it. Others at the table ordered the chilaquiles, which come in red, green, or a combo, and can be customized with chorizo, short rib, or other proteins. The feedback was positive, though the portion size looked a bit small compared to other dishes. The very berry French toast was a hit with my daughter. She loved the sauce -- flavorful but not too sweet -- and the bread was perfectly toasted on the outside with a soft center. The burritos were generously sized. The surf and turf stood out, with perfectly cooked shrimp and meat. The sauce had a bit more kick than expected, but it was delicious overall. The carne asada fries were also a great size, with fresh, quality ingredients and great flavor. A few things to note: there are no fountain drinks, and the agua frescas don't come with refills. In any case, I feel like this will be a pretty well rounded review, because I've been there about 3 or 4 times already. First - if you go for brunch on the weekend - there WILL BE a line (as there should be). So expect to be waiting for around 20 minutes. Its okay though, cuz its worth it. Second - once you're seated - look around. I say this because you'll inevitably see a bunch of plates making their way to their table... and this will give you inspiration to order what's to be the meal that will give you a very nice nap later in the afternoon. First off... WOW. Today was our second visit to Bandoleros Cafe and it did not disappoint. We actually stumbled across it a couple weeks ago, but the line was so long we had to tap out (hunger won that round). On our way out, a few people waiting told my husband it was absolutely worth it--and now that we've been back twice (yes, we were just here last Sunday), I can confidently say... they were 100% right. From the moment you sit down, your table is set with fresh cold water and pan dulce As someone who loves a good concha, this alone already had me smiling. My first visit, I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with asada--and let me just say... they were so good they almost made me slap my husband. Lucky for him, he was sitting just out of reach. He ordered the asada burrito, which was massive and packed with flavor. Today, I went with the huevos divorciados with asada and a side of papas. Everything was just as delicious as I remembered. I also have an 8-month-old, and while I usually bring her food from home (I prefer cooking her meals without salt), our server--whose name I sadly can't remember--was so kind and accommodating with how I needed my daughter's eggs prepared. That level of care really meant a lot. I also have to mention how well the staff works together. It's a cozy space and gets busy fast, but everyone moves like a team and keeps things running smoothly, even during the rush. To begin, when we first got sat, they made a mistake and sat us first over another party of three that was ahead of us no offense, but that was the hosts mistake and they should've accommodated us and said sorry to the other party not us. I didn't want to make a big deal about it so we just got up and waited another 10 minutes. Honestly it was very embarrassing for a mix up like that to happen from an employee and us, the guest that y'all sat be punished for it. My gfs and I tried this spot on a Monday morning. There was a wait but not bad! The food was pretty good! I got the Mando Hash with onions and salsa on the side. The salsa was spicy, sooo good! The braised beef on there was really tender! I also tried the banana French toast. It comes with banana bread. Pretty good too! Sweet but that's a given haha. While this place is packed on weekends, I had no issue placing a phone order on weekdays - no wait time on weekdays. They have bar seats so you can get seated earlier if your party is flexible on grabbing bar seats. [Menu]: The top two Yelp recommended items are Cafe De Hoja and Chilaquiles Verdes. For Chilaquiles, customers can order half verdes and half Rojos. Adding protein will cost extra, but I HIGHLY recommend adding short rib (as recommended by the staff). My partner is vegan and worked with the server to make the chilaquiles vegan, and they absolutely loved them. They also had non-dairy milks, which was a great bonus. By 10am it starts filling up. They have a list outside to put your name on and all things considering it moves fairly quickly if you have to wait. I suggest be patient. I came here with a party of 6 (we originally had 7 on the waitlist), and the staff was incredibly accommodating when our group size changed. This place is VERY popular, and the location itself is on the smaller side, so the wait ended up being about an hour and a half. Once you see how busy it is though, the wait definitely makes sense because the place stayed packed the entire time we were there. Even with a full house, they were still very accommodating with small requests from our table, which we really appreciated given how busy it was. We ordered quite a bit including the Abuelita iced latte, Abuelita hot latte, Bandit iced latte with cold foam, Jarritos, and a margarita flight. Just a heads up: the margarita flight is not small samples, they are actually full-sized margaritas, which definitely surprised us in the best way. For food we ordered chilaquiles rojos with asada, the Cali omelette, guava French toast, banana French toast, the Bandit burrito, and the chorizo burrito. I personally ordered the Bandit iced latte (which tastes like an horchata latte) and the guava French toast with no coconut on mine, and I was pleasantly surprised by both. The latte was really unique and the French toast was delicious. I also tried the Abuelita iced latte from someone in my group, and while it was good, it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, every single entrée was well loved by our group, which says a lot since there were six of us all ordering different things. The only thing that made us laugh a little was noticing we were charged for the extra salsa and the two chiles toreados, which we didn't expect. Also worth noting: for groups of 6 or more an automatic gratuity is added (pretty standard at most restaurants). Our subtotal for the six of us was $190 before gratuity and fees. Overall it was a really fun brunch experience with great food and a lively atmosphere. It's definitely somewhere we'd bring our parents or visiting family to enjoy a good brunch. Came to Bandoleros Café around 10:30am on a Sunday with a party of seven. Since it was Sunday, they were one of the few places open in the shopping center so it was easy to find parking. We were seated about 45 minutes later as we were a larger party. They were able to seat smaller parties much faster as there is bar seating and 2 top tables. The spot is very casual and lively, with music playing and a fun, family-friendly feel. We had adults, a toddler, and a baby, and it worked out great. The kiddos had room to move around outside while we waited until we got seated in a comfortable booth in the corner. Service was attentive and we were checked on often. There was a complimentary concha already on the table when we got seated -- dipping it into a hot cup of coffee is a must. So good. Food was excellent. Highly recommend doing half Rojo / half Verde sauce. Perfect combo. I underestimated the Verde -- it's spicy. I asked for extra hot sauce and didn't even use it. I went with the chilaquiles (was debating the hash) and I'm so glad I did -- the chips were next level. Pinto beans were super smooth and fluffy, and the chips really were buttery and crispy like described. The Café de Olla latte was a little sweet for me, but the iced version was way better and that's what I'll get next time. Also, the tres leches French toast was out of this world. That sauce is unreal. We shared it and everyone loved it. I also saw a burrito go to the table next to us and it was huge -- also had half verdes half rojos sauce. I underestimated this spot. Portions are humongous but the fellas finished theirs just fine. Hands down one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Food was good. Parking was good. Loud & boisterous but no big deal. Customer service was questionable. A few issues occurred & servers tried to rectify them. However, they spoke in Spanish with "annoyed" voices, as was interpreted by my Spanish-speaking friends. They must have forgotten that this is Orange County & a lot of people are bilingual & multilingual, so if restaurant employees want to talk bad about customers, please don't do it close enough so we can hear. read more
