    Happy Hour
    Amanda D.

Was wandering in the Upper West Side with a friend on a random Saturday and randomly found this spot. The initial draw was that they had happy hour on a Saturday and I am always down for a drink deal. Ended up deciding to stay for dinner, so incredibly happy that we did. I didn't even realize that we had habachi spots in NYC, I usually go upstate to indulge in this craving, but now that I know this is here, I will be coming back! Inside gives off a fun theatrical take on a Japanese hibachi spot, the tables don't come off as on top of each other. There are actually quite a few that feel secluded, and great to book if you are here for a party. For the show, I didn't feel like the chef was doing stuff just to do it, everything was fun but not overly done. Loved the sake shot from the sauce bottle!

This was actually a really great experience that changed my mind about hibachi. I have a lot of allergies that prevents me from eating at a lot of places and a lot of hibachi places gave me a plate of rice and cold shrimp or told me I couldn't eat anything. But this place was able to accommodate a meal for me and it tasted so GOOD. The servers were all nice and the chef was very entertaining. The restaurant itself wasn't that big but they did utilize everything to make it look as good as it does. I would definitely recommend trying this place out

We were looking for somewhere close by to eat after visiting the museum of natural history ( a few blocks away) and discovered Flame ! RSVPs were closed online but we decided to chance being walk-ins and I'm so glad we did. The hibachi section was fully booked but we were perfectly fine being seated within a few minutes as dine ins. Food ( roti ,wings, pad Thai, basil fried rice ) service, drinks , and decor were all excellent. I would 100% visit here again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and although we didn't opt to sit by the hibachi grill, you could still order hibachi items and have it served to your table without the show. We came after the lunch rush hours and the place seemed quiet and unassuming at first. After getting seated in a booth, we got some drinks to start and got right into ordering! I will be honest, I've never been to a hibachi restaurant before and I was excited to try everything! So we got some mushroom spring rolls and char grilled chicken satay to start. The spring rolls had a thin crispy exterior and the filling was nice and moist. It might have tasted even better had it been hotter. It was erring on the side of warm and soon to be cold. Otherwise, flavor was good and would get again. As for the satay- once again the temperature of the food seemed to err on the side of almost cold and the chicken was slightly on the dryer side. Thankfully the chicken was flavorful and the addition of the peanut sauce really helped. The soup dumplings did not disappoint! Flavor was very spot on, not bland at all. When you pick up the dumplings, the skin didn't break-which is always a plus because you don't want to lose the yum soup in there! The skin on the dumpling was on the thicker side, but because it was flavorful, it didn't matter too much. The drunken noodles were my favorite! The flat rice noodles were bouncy, nice chew and were coated in even layer of sauce with a good amount of protein and vegetables! It also had a tinge of spice for those that like a slight kick without the overpowering spice! Very enjoyable! As we were finishing up, the place suddenly became PACKED with people!! I'm so glad we came at a good time before the crowd! Everything was reasonably priced and they also have lunch specials that are easier on the wallet too! Overall, very satisfied for my first hibachi experience and can't wait to top this experience!

One of our party was craving sushi after the American Museum of Natural History, this was a short walk and no weight for a table. The hibachi tables were screaming yelling and generally having a really fun time. It looked like. We took a quieter table for two in the back and the server was overwhelmed and inattentive, the table was jiggling and unstable, one of our drinks we ordered was not brought to the table and the veggie longevity noodles took much too long for our liking, fortunately it was absolutely delicious, so was the mushroom dumplings!!

Wasn't expecting to like this place much, as it's very Asian fusion. And full disclosure, I didn't try the hibachi. However, I really enjoyed the pad thai; the portions were quite generous and though it's a fairly common dish, theirs was one of the best I've had in NYC. Sushi also was pretty decent. Not super cheap here, but I'd come back to try the hibachi.

Typical gimmick of a hibachi place with Manhattan pricing. They provide separate seating for non-hibachi part-takers. Sake list felt very limited. Overall, the chef was very friendly and entertaining. That's where the good times end. The portions, flavor, and cook of food was sub par. I had the chicken dish which felt very stringy and overcooked (of course safer over cooked than under cooked). My partner ordered seafood items and felt same about their dishes, very over cooked. Not sure if I would return as flavors felt bland. Wanted to give this place a fair chance but it seems their focus is on turnover quantity instead of quality of food. Flavors are not true to hibachi style.

Came in based on reviews and wasn't disappointed. Sat at the Bar on a Sunday afternoon with no one else there, bartender was attentive and friendly. The hibachi part had waves of people coming in, not sure if all had reservations, but the food smelled delicious. I got the pork steamed buns, Goyza and a roll, don't recall the name but all were tasty. I'll keep on the short list for when in the neighborhood.

Best sushi place I've had in a while! Came in @9:30pm - got a couple different things: The pan fried chicken dumplings and the pan fried pork buns are a MUST - apart from the sushi. Both very crunchy on outside and filling was delicious in both! Definitely dip in the soy sauce for an added kick! For sushi we got the spicy tuna roll, the mango salmon, the spicy girl and the galapagos - all EXCELLENT choices but I 100% recommend the spicy girl and the mango salmon. The mango salmon has a sweet taste - dip in soy sauce and you will be blown away - it definitely WORKS. The spicy girl is crunchy and maleta in your mouth! Service was excellent and super quick. The place was very clean. The tables, the floors, even the bathroom was really clean! Staff was very friendly. Also if you have a birthday they will bring out a gong (another party near us had a bday) - pretty cool!

I visited this restaurant 2 years ago and had a really good impression of the food. This time when I visited, I didn't like the food that much. All their food seemed so much oilier -- the Scallion Pancakes (could taste that the oil being used is like old oil) and the Drunken Noodles. The Pork Dumplings weren't bad. The Dancing Eel Roll was just okay. I forgot I had ordered it last time and didn't like it that much. It's still just okay, and while the pineapple was refreshing, there was a bit too much of it as it took up most of the filling. I like that they do have an extensive menu and am willing to return to try their other menu items, but I'm not in a hurry to return.

Is a non hibachi table just as atmospheric to celebrate a birthday? (We prefer the non-hibachi menu.)

We had a booth in the back of the restaurant and it was cozy. No chef but the service was good and the ambiance was nice. Our sushi was delicious.

Hi online there is a hibachi brunch menu on saturdays and Sunday's but when I called the restaurant they said there is no special brunch menu at the hibachi tables. Please let me know if this is correct. If there is one what time is it offered?

Hey Rebecca! We do offer brunch specials on Saturday and Sunday from 12 - 3 pm. Our brunch specials are only at the regular dine-in tables and the bar. We don't have brunch specials for the hibachi grill tables.

How many people can sit at the hibachi table?

I believe it's either 8 or 10 ppl that could fit at the table

Do they serve alcohol along with the hibachi food? If so is the drink menu extensive?

Yes they serve alcohol. The bar is cheaper during happy hour, but the drinks are reasonably priced for NYC.

Are all the tables hibachi or do I have to request to have a hibachi table?

Not all the tables are hibachi - there are regular tables and booths in the back. But they do ask if you want hibachi or not when you walk in!

Do we have to make reservations ? If no how long is the wait time

Yes it is recommended that you do.

Is this wheel chair senior citizen friendly? Stairs or elevators? Bar stools or regular height chairs? hours of operation?

They are wheelchair friendly. They have a ramp. Bar area is high chairs and tables, main dining area is regular height chairs. Hours of operation are listed on their site : http://flamenyc.com/

This restaurant sits comfortably on the middle of the block and definitely looks like it's been there for a while. I think for over 30 years? Yes I came for the fried chicken and green sauce. They have a $15.50 lunch special but ended up picking up dinner since I was finally in the area. The #12 Crackling Chicken (white meat) w/ Pork Fried Rice is $26. The portion is Very Generous! Literally 6 large pieces of chicken breast (split open thinly & battered). I made sure to ask for the green sauce & they gave me a little bag of 3 containers. It's a kind of cilantro garlic herby aoli. I always expect a kind of Mama's Empanadas (Colombian) spicy version, but this (maybe Peruvian?) will always be mayo-forward? It's tasty, but nothing *So special - better than the Chino Peruvian place in my Queens neighborhood; but idk it's mayo. For some reason they gave me a House Special Fried Rice instead of the Pork Fried Rice that comes with the order. This was excellent! (Haven't had American-style Chinese Food in years...cuz when you grow up selling quality versions of it...) Had large cubes of seared! ham, char sui (Roast Pork) & bouncy shrimp. Nice umami undertones. About the chicken - it was good, medium crispy, medium juicy, slightly brined & well made. BUT - it's Just Fried Chicken. TBH after a few bites, I wonder if they're inspired by Popeyes. The chicken meat is better than Popeyes, but overall that's what it reminded me of (& Popeyes does a good job btw). IDK - I was influenced to expect some kind of special seasoning with the chicken, maybe a Chinese salt & pepper blend? I wonder if I'd like the bone-in chicken / dark meat option more. I recommend this combo meal, would be interested in seeing how their other dishes are if I had a group to eat with. Happy to support a small business. I froze the other 3 chicken pieces for a future meal. Wonder if one of the little green sauces freezes well too. The restaurant feels really homey and was full on a 6:30 PM on a Sunday. But people didn't seem to have to wait too long. There were a few customers waiting for to-go orders alongside me at the front bar area. It's funny when the young staff acts abruptly rude "How many!", but you know they're 2nd Gen. hope this business sticks around for many more years, very 80's - 90's Chinese American Latin feel!

Conveniently located only a short walk from the 72nd Street station on the 1/2/3, this restaurant follows the same model as La Caridad 72. Chinese/Cuban cuisine, mixed in with other dishes from South America. These are two cuisines that are integral to the human condition. Do not frown upon this combo, or you will instantly regret it. As I got here at the tail end of their lunch rush, I was given a lunch menu, so I ordered a wonton soup, with a chicken lo mein with a side of plantains. Got all that? Unfortunately, the wonton soup lacks a little here. The wontons fall apart and the soup has little character. It does come with several wontons as well as a side of crispy wonton strips, and some duck sauce, but overall it was an underwhelming soup. The duck sauce and wonton strips were a great way to set up the main dish, much like peanuts at a bar. They also allowed my stomach to reset in order to get ready for the heavy stuff. Lo mein is not heavy by any means, but combined with the plantains really created an excellent combination. The noodles are good perfectly, the chicken has tons of flavor, and the plantains are cooked to perfection with an outstanding taste and texture. I will eat these anywhere, anytime. The portion is nice too for a lunch meal. I did not feel shortchanged at all. The menu has other offerings that tried to seduce me into staying longer and having a more expensive bill. Any other time I would have caved like a 18 year old at a strip club. Thankfully I have more restraint than that, so I just asked for the check, paid, and walked out. As I speak some Spanish, I was hoping to use this skill there, but I read the room and saw that this was not the arena to do that. Oh well. There is a time and place for everything. Now I have to make some time for a return visit. If a visit to this restaurant was any indication, I think 2026 is going to be a unique year for me.

The fried rolls were very authentically Vietnamese flavored. You can't go wrong with any of the entrees. The sauce that came with the branzino was great and the fish itself was grilled to perfection!
