Now THIS is a large oxtail!!!!
    Yelp R.

Yes friends. Flames on blue hill have always do. me right. I've got to say, great service and great portions. They dont care about my calorie intake and whether or not I eating myself to an early grave, and I love em for it =') Now if you wanna see an example of *pretend* "large" oxtail dish see my review and pic for Blue Mountain Jamaican Restaurant!

This is the first time I've tried Flames on Blue Hill. It was pretty good...not the best oxtail in the city but good enough. At least they were tender and definitely satisfied the craving that I've had for the past week. I went pretty early in the day while everything was hot and fresh. I'll be back for sure cause the fish looked like it was to die for.

Ackee and saltfish with home fries

I have tried this spot several times over the years and i must say it hasnt changed for the good. I seem to always have a problem with my food mainly being undercooked or tasting old. Today i tried their ackee and salt fish and i must say the ackee and salt fish was great but those potatoes taste like cold fries reheated. Totally gross. I will be going to my original location on morton street. They are the beat and way more friendly as well.

Flames is one of my favorite Jamaica restaurants, this one tastes better than the other two of the chains (Morton St and Huntington Ave). The food is more seasoned here and there are more options food wise and ice cream options. I love coming here because it doesn't taste like fast food, it's very authentic and tastes like the Caribbean. I definitely appreciate the portion size they give you, I'm always able to split the medium sized plate into two and have leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. My partner and I also go and buy one plate sometimes and share it and it's more than enough for two people! The pricing is reasonable for the amount of food given. My two favorite meats to get are the curry goat and the ox tails, I usually choose between the two and get rice and beans and cabbage with it. I did try the fried fish one morning for breakfast and was impressed by how well it tasted, so yes, I do recommend them for any time of the day! I will say that depending on when you go will determine the type of customer service you receive. The older staff aren't very friendly but I believe that this is a cultural barrier, the younger staff on the other hand are very pleasant. You can sit in this restaurant if you like, there's a small seating area but it wouldn't work for larger parties. The decor isn't fancy and the furniture is a little worn but it is good enough if you don't want to wait until you get home to eat.

I had no clue there was more than one Flames. I knew of the one in Providence because its close to…read moreme but I squealed when I saw there was one next to where I would be in the Boston area. My friend and I were looking for a place to get a good and filling meal before skating at Chez Vous and between the three options we narrowed it down to, this won. They have a parking lot for about 7 cars which was very convenient - street parking is also available but just more of a hassle. It smelled so good when we walked in. We tried to figure out the menu, but had some questions. After clarification, it made sense. They offer small, medium or large plates and vary in price depending on the type of meat selected. You can also add double meat or combine meats for an additional charge. We couldn't really see the food because of the condensation on the glass, but from the crevices, everything looked incredible which made it hard to decide. I would say there were about 20 different options of meats. I had never had ox tail before but I felt comfortable letting Flames do the honors of changing that so I chose that. I picked the rice with brown beans, steamed veggies, and oxtail. The really piled everything on. The prices are a bit high, with oxtail being the most expensive, but seeing that you can get two servings from a large plate, it doesn't seem so bad in the end. My friend had the yellow rice with curry chicken and cabbage salad. He also bought an Irish Moss drink which tasted a lot like egg nog. We had the food there. They have about 5-6 tables, each with two chairs, but or some reason the tables are all slanted down so just be careful of food or drinks sliding. The rice with brown beans was really good; midway through I tasted coconut and loved the sweet and savory combo. The ox tail was very tender and the sauce it was in was rich and tasty. The veggies were slightly over steamed but still good. My friend's curry was good. While eating we realized they sell patties as well as desserts; they have a case with these treats. I would recommend coming here for a freshly cooked and big meal. The customer service is also good. They had a sign on the bathroom that it was only for employees so just keep that in mind.

There wasn't a single dish in there that I didn't like. The chicken was tender, the stew and legumes were flavorful, the rice was well cooked, the tostones were crispy, and the sweet plantains were truly ripe. I honestly wish they had a combo where they could do three mains and six sides cuz I would be into that! And a special shout out to the compostable packaging. Loved it.

Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. While the staff was friendly and welcoming, there was a little lack of coordination in the service but not so much that it detracted from the overall service. I decided to order the fried chicken, hoping for a flavorful experience, that Creole food is typical of, but I was sorely disappointed to find that it was completely devoid of seasoning--absolutely none! The taste was bland, and I found myself unable to enjoy it at all. After a few bites, I realized I couldn't force myself to eat it, so I ended up tossing it in the trash. Given that I was already some distance away from the restaurant at my next stop, returning it wasn't an option. I did take the time to call the restaurant and voice my concerns, but they l didn't offer any form of credit or compensation for the issue, so it only reinforced my decision not to return, as I couldn't see myself taking another chance on a meal that fell so flat. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially considering the hype surrounding this place.

You order first then pay at the end of the line. The folks behind the counter are nice and they give you so much food! I was deciding between the oxtail and the jerk chicken.. but someone mentioned that they have the most tender oxtails here so I went for that. The total was around $23, which seems a lot but this easily is 2-3 servings, so it's really worth the price. The oxtail was indeed very tender and flavourful. The rice & peas were also filled with flavour and cooked well. The cabbage I'm not a huge fan of, but I gave it a try. Will probably skip that next time. 10/10 will be back! Maybe for the jerk chicken.

We also got a small cup of their carrot juice to share - just like mummy makes it mmm. They had carrot cake and red velvet cake the time. I was going to go with the carrot since it was easter time but the 2 ladies I asked rated the red velvet higher so I got that. The red velvet cake was SO light and airy I basically inhaled it. They have high ledges to stand and eat your food but no seating available. The ladies in the shop were nice. Order with confidence + surity and yuh good.
