We originally stopped at Flames for an early dinner as we were attracted to all the good reviews. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived around 5p but filled up a bit more as we dined. We appreciated the interior of this restaurant being noticeably brighter compared to the other location in Vero, which is too dark. This Melbourne location seemed clean with an open kitchen to see the action. We started off ordering a hummus for the table. A couple of the plates they brought out looked dirty and unwashed (yikes!). Also, the pitas were not warm so we sent those back as well. Not off to a good start. Our server Donna was great though, and was fast, helpful and informative. Our orders of tenderloin and chicken kebobs were ok, the steak was a bit chewy. Entrees came with a house salad with lemon vinaigrette, veggies, rice and a bit of hummus.. those were good. I've had better Mediterranean so not sure if I'd return, especially with the dirty dishes. So sad another one bites the dust. How can you mess up a salad? Ambiance love this place but for the price service sucked and food did also. Very rarely do I not eat my salad but today was a day. Did the waitress care? No- no one checked on me when I asked for different dressing i got some ranch but what is the point of Greek dressing and you need ranch? This place is classy yet laid back Lebanese restaurant wedged into Melbourne. They have a full bar with a lot of different drink options. Saturday nights around 7-7:30pm they have belly dancers. Our waitress, Kim was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious the lentil soup was tasty in a nice big bowl served with crispy pita. Enough to call it a meal. The shrimp skewers were cooked over an open flame. For dessert the baklava with pistachio and Lebanese tea. They paired very well together. My wife ordered Farrouj Meshwi (LA-LA Chicken) (Grilled 1/2 baby chicken marinated with lemon, garlic and herbs, served with a side of garlic sauce on a bed of rice with Humus , salad and grilled vegetables), and I ordered Sayadieh Fish. (Pan-fried fresh snapper filet with olive oil, Herbs and lemon, topped with Tahini sauce with fried crispy Onions and pine nuts.) We also both had the Greek salad. Both entrees were very generous portions. The yellow squash, zucchini, and carrots were perfectly seared and very tasty. The presentation was excellent with a swath of hummus and falafel. Both were dishes were seasoned perfectly and tasted every bit as good as they looked. We have been to countries on the Mediterranean Sea coast. Flames is as close as it gets to native Med cuisine. Driving by this place everyday, I have ignored my intuition to pay them a visit. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! Our waitress, Dee, was so passionate about her job! She was personal, informative, educational and made wonderful recommendations. She is a true gem that anyone would be lucky to employ or have wait their table. To know that everything is made from scratch and only from the best ingredients (many imported) really showed in the presentation and taste! The drinks are true works of art. Hand crafted cocktails with unique and hard to find ingredients that truly tantalized the mind and tongue. The appetizers of bread with many dipping spices and sauces was a beautiful start to this food adventure. The cheese rolls were crisp and the inside was gooey and again, so unique! Not your average cheese roll but in a good way. The soup was HEAVY on lemon. Almost too much, but still refreshing and worked well with the "chips" to scoop into. The kabobs... let's just talk about meat for a second! The tenderloin was just melt in your mouth incredible, with amazing spices and tons of flavor and so juicy (I ordered mine rare) The chicken kabobs were equally juicy, seasoned and that garlic sauce needs to go into a bottle! WOW!! The hummus had a kick. It was so creamy but had a hint of pepper..? Whatever it was, I want it daily. The rice was fluffy and buttery and truly you can't ask for more in good rice. Even the salad was art! A beautiful tomato carved into a rose with yet again, so much flavor it was hard to stop but knowing the main course was around the corner gave me the will power to push it aside to take home. We decided to try this restaurant because we like Mediterranean and are new to the area. The restaurant was pretty empty and our server greeted us quickly. I ordered a glass of sparkling water and they brought me a 1 liter Pellegrini. I told them I didn't need that much but they said we wouldn't be charged for the whole bottle. For drinks I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio which was the only choice that could be ordered by the glass. It was not good. My husband ordered an Iranian beer. He said it was okay. We ordered the fried cheese appetizer which was really good. We then ordered our entrees. I ordered the tenderloin kebab rare with no rice and our server said they would give me extra veggies. My husband ordered the 2 kebab platter. Tenderloin medium rare and salmon. Also no rice. It took a very long time to be served. The food was good. My tenderloin was not rare or even medium rare. But the flavor was good and I was hungry. The seasoning was somewhat overpowering. The same for my husband's meal. Tenderloin was over cooked but had a good flavor. Salmon was good. His meal was also over seasoned. I told our server that the wine did not taste good to me. He said he likes it. We got our bill and were shocked that they charged us $5 more dollars per meal because they gave us extra veggies instead of rice. Our server said he should have told us. And the bottle of sparkling water cost us $13!! Bottom line: Our impression is that this place is way overpriced and not up to the standard that their prices command. This was a one and done for us. We went for a late lunch on Saturday. No lunch menus are offered on the weekend. The prices are exorbitant $30 for chicken skewers and rice. Sandwiches were the same price. They barely put a smear of hummus on the plate but I didn't want more after tasting it. Overly seasoned. I'm Lebanese and it's never tasted spicy like that. Other than the hummus the food was good, just not worth the hefty price tag. We asked for more labneh because they don't give you nearly enough. Was charged for it at the end. Waitress was lovely but I feel we should have been told about the extra charge then and not when paying. As far as ambiance it's very modern with some nice decor elements. We were shivering- cold in there! Not sure this restaurant will last in this economy. We get better food at Celo's in Suntree for half the price. Want to give Cedar's cafe a try next.
