**INITIAL REVIEW** Melbourne Main Street a.k.a. Historic Downtown Melbourne is a definite "go-to" location when it comes to mom n' pop eateries ranging from casual to fine dining. Why many of my five-star reviewed restaurants are in this stretch of historic Melbourne, FL. If there is one restaurant I'd say has the "most" magnificent views of Indian River, Melbourne Main Street, and even Golden Hours of the horizons, then it is definitely The Landing Rooftop (which I will shorthand simply to Landing for the remainder of this review). Though an address is provided, The Landing - as per its full nomenclature - is located on a rooftop, specifically the rooftop of Hilton's Hotel Melby. The free parking for the garage floors for the HIlton are limited, so if you can't get a spot, there is a free parking garage just north of Hotel Melby next to the City Hall. To get to The Landing, you have to enter the lobby of Hotel Melby and take the elevator up to the 11th floor, which is the floor dedicated to the restaurant. Don't worry, the staff won't say anything and they'll usually let you go as they know about the patron traffic to the restaurant. The Landing is a beautifully-designed restaurant with Hilton's signature modern classic designs of bright tans and white lights. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but I suggest indoor seating during high sun hours and outdoor seating during golden hour times and nighttime dining. As mentioned earlier, the views are magnificent for Indian River and Melbourne. I've eaten multiple times here at The Landing, but my lastest visit was an impromptu "date" with my friend Damaris, simply because she has never been here before, and I was giving her the grand tour of Melbourne Main Street. We sat outside in the shaded overhang, but got to walk around taking pictures of the views from all four sides. We should have sat in the cocoon hanging chairs, but we didn't know when we'd get our food and drinks. Starting with the drinks, we got a couple of mocktails, the Lemon Bay Breeze and the Strawberry Sunset. Details of both drinks and prices are in the pictures. As for food, we both split their charcuterie board appetizer, which I say is quite amazing, but definitely needs more bread and crackers. It consisted of many kinds of meats, cheeses, jams, olives, nuts, and fruits. Everything was so delicious, but we had to start using the cheese and meat slices as the "bread." We also got two desserts to share, the classic key lime pie and I assume the pistachio olive oil cake. Both were delicious and details, including price, are captioned in their pics. And on a side note, the restrooms are clean and stocked as they are up to the standard of a Hilton. And apparently, The Landing is one of those restaurants that are behind the times on payment. They initially takes tap payments with cards, but not NCT on phones. Their system does not like protective virtual cards, which is a major negative in my honest opinion, given the fact their food is a bit pricey compared to the rest of the restaurants in Melbourne Main Street. Ultimately, I am going to give The Landing three-out-of-five stars for their review. And the reason why I am giving it this kind of rating is a comparison to other Hilton restaurants I have been to. Kinda like Hotel Melby itself, this restaurant is kinda under the average of the Hilton standard. Not bad, but I have had better at other Hilton hotels and resorts. Only standout are the views around and about the restaurant, and that is a farcry because we are talking about Melbourne and Indian River. But I will stress this is one of the best places to dine while watching a rocket launch out of Cape Canaveral. read more

Excellent water and city views! First time eating at this restaurant and highly recommend you make a reservation. It gets very busy. Staff were very nice and accommodating. I first ordered the shrimp tacos which came with a sauce that made it too spicy for me. I asked if I could order the Hot Honey Crispy Chicken Sandwich because my sister and friend ordered it and said it wasn't spicy. They allowed me to order it, and it was so good. It has a good flavor and came with curled potato fries which were delicious. My daughter said the shrimp tacos were very tasty and she liked the spicy kick to it. Made a reservation for two the night before. We were able to add another couple with no problem. We decided to sit at the outside bar. The night weather was a little chilly, but they had the space heaters on , which was perfect. Great bartender, made us delicious cocktails. Nice view from the rooftop. I had the bone in pork chop. Went there over the weekend to celebrate my birthday and really enjoyed myself. Server was great! very friendly and helped us make some good selections. The atmosphere felt cozy and intimate despite the fact that a large event was going on, on the other side of the restaurant. The hotel itself is gorgeous! First of all, AMAZING VIEW !! Usually rooftop restaurants in my experience are congested and dirty, but this place was far from that. Beautiful ocean and downtown views. We had amazing service, which really set the tone for our lunch. My husband ordered an appetizer of oysters, then Tuna Poke which he enjoyed with a nice cocktail. I ordered a mocktail to go along with the seared ahi Niçoise salad. Super refreshing and delicious! Parking was a bit odd, give yourself 5-10 minutes for that. Enjoyed our stay at the Melby for Thanksgiving and the rooftop was definitely something worth checking out. The rooftop is cozy and a cute spot to grab dinner! We were seated quickly and our server was really nice too. I really enjoyed the wings and the flatbread was also good with the perfect amount of crispy for the crust. The fries were truly the star of the show! Super crispy, the shape was great and we really enjoyed the sauce. We visited The Landing Rooftop in Palm Bay during a staycation! From the atmosphere to the service, everything was spot on. The Food We started with the Peach Burrata Salad, which was incredibly fresh and the perfect way to kick off lunch. For our mains: Caramelized Goat Cheese Beet Salad: This was a standout. The goat cheese had actual caramelized pieces on top--almost like it was brûléed. It added a delicious, crunchy sweetness that paired perfectly with the beets. Steak Burger: My husband really enjoyed this; it was hearty and cooked perfectly. Crispy Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich: My friend loved the balance of heat and sweet. We finished with the Hummingbird Cake for dessert. Our server described it as "banana bread on crack," and she wasn't lying! It was absolutely phenomenal. I have dined here previously with average results not worthy of a review. Last evening, however, my daughter, my grand daughter, my husband and my daughter's husband decided to celebrate Mother's Day at the Landing Roof Top. We looked forward to the view, the wonderful breezes and general ambiance. The view and comfortable booth did not disappoint. Sadly last night's meal (at least for my husband and me) was seriously lacking. Our server was polite and professional but we had a hard time gaining her attention to order, most likely because there were many guests trying to also celebrate Mother's with their own nice experience. What really turned out to be a below average meal was a disappointment. The food was unremarkable. First the good news: the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer was wonderful. The oysters were sweet, a little on the small side, and topped with a classical flavorful mix of Parmesan, spinach, etc. Very nice. Then came the main and salad course. My daughter shared some of her beet and goat cheese salad with me. It was lovely. My husband on the other hand ordered the Caesar salad with anchovies. What he received was a chopped (bagged?) romaine based salad with dollops of what seemed to resemble a bottled average Caesar dressing. No anchovies. The salad was no better than an out of bag salad you could buy at a grocery store. He ordered a hamburger. The meat in the burger was nearly raw and completely unseasoned. Very disappointing. I ordered the grouper dinner. The fish arrived in two small pieces, probably about 4 oz total, if I were to estimate generously. There was supposedly a mango sauce with that. What sauce there was as placed was scant, but tasty. The fish was overcooked and dry, settled on a bed of spinach and jasmine rice. Nothing special for a price of an entree nearing $40. This was no doubt one of the worst fish meals I've had anywhere in the Melbourne area. The dessert was tasty, a good and true key lime pie served with a bit of mango sorbet which was an excellent flavor pairing. Both my husband and I agreed as much as we want to love this place, we won't be back. There are far better restaurants in the area. Perhaps they have a new or inexperienced cook/chef. Your rooftop space is beautiful and has incredible potential, but my recent visit highlighted several issues that absolutely need attention. Here's what we experienced: The food was overcooked, which is a basic execution issue. Food tasted very plan. We sat 15-20 minutes before receiving water, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Our food took an extremely long time to come out on what was essentially a very slow morning. The staff seemed disengaged, and low-energy, which immediately affects the guest experience. Based on other reviews, it appears management responds in comments but may not actually follow up with guests directly, offer recovery, or invite them back -- a big missed opportunity. I even tipped to help the server, but the service itself didn't earn it. That tells me this isn't just an "off day" -- it points to deeper inconsistency and a lack of leadership presence. Gorgeous view of Melbourne up here :O Located at the top of Hotel Melby (no reservation required to access the bar). We stopped by for a quick drink before dinner. The decor is contemporary and simple, if a little corporate (kinda that generic hotel vibe?). But clean and well-maintained. We seated ourselves at the fire pit and ordered drinks at the bar. No table service outside. Drinks were good, but took some time to prepare. After finding out the fire pit was broken, one of the staff rushed over from across the bar to kindly offer to manually ignite it. It was a small gesture, but I appreciated how attentive he was of guests. He mentioned that it'd broken recently-- I couldn't help but wonder why the knob wasn't labeled and open to public to fiddle with. Kinda dangerous to just let customers potentially light the whole place on fire LOL. NOTE: At the time we visited, half of the tables on the balcony were marked as reserved. I really don't know where to start. The view from The Landing is outstanding and, in my experience, the food and drinks were solid and a reasonable price for that type of hotel restaurant. The service, however, is consistently mediocre and some of the worst I've ever experienced at any hotel restaurant anywhere in the world. I was there during the holidays off season. The Landing was never that busy when I went (and I went at various times of day and evening) and seemed fairly heavily staffed so the service should have been good, but it wasn't. It took forever for simple orders like sodas and regular coffee to arrive (our waters never did come) and we needed to ask for things like cream for our coffee a couple of times before receiving it. On four of the five different times we arrived at the nearly empty restaurant, we were greeted then stood around awkwardly for several minutes waiting to be seated (as the sign indicated we should) before someone (without even looking at us) would mumble something about sitting anywhere. The most engagement we had from any staff member was the waiter (who wasn't even our waiter) who kept repeatedly asking us to give him a good review (even though he NEVER served us on any of our visits). We did see the staff engaging with each other and their friends and family who were there, though. Several times we were on the elevator with staff heading to or from work and they engaged only with their phones (not even saying hello to hotel guests). The Landing has so much potential but management really needs to come in and overhaul the training of the staff. Teach them how to engage with customers (and potential customers when wearing the uniform) and how to actually provide hospitable and conscientious service since they work in the hospitality industry. read more

Allan was one of the best servers I have had anywhere. He was attentive, enthusiastic, and clearly knew the menu very well. We came here twice during our hotel stay and enjoyed an early dinner / happy hour combo as well as an evening nightcap beer. For dinner, our server was excellent and the food was nice, along with a great view from the terrace. It was relaxed and quiet. It was a very enjoyable way to spend our early evening. The evening beer/ nightcap had a much more energetic vibe, the crowd dressed to the nines and moving with the beats of the music.
