The appointment began in a small office, where I was asked what "bothered me today"? rather than being examined in a dental chair. I was only moved to the chair after I asked for a clinical evaluation. Dr. Cabanillas briefly reviewed the X-rays I brought and immediately recommended removing most of my teeth and placing full-arch prosthetics for a flat $100,000. No clinical examination, functional assessment, occlusal evaluation, or diagnostic work-up was performed before presenting this plan. When I asked for a diagnostic model to be made, something that is typically a part of prosthodontic planning, I was told, "I don't do models. You need to find another provider.?" I left with no detailed evaluation, no individualized treatment plan, and no explanation of alternative options. This was not the prosthodontic consultation I expected.

Dentist put in temporary glue, but put in so much it overflowed over my gums and tongue. It caused the bridge to not fit right, so he took the drill to reform the bridge. I left and called as soon as I got home, and arranged a return visit asap. Went back and they wanted to charge me $400 to fix what I already paid $200 for. She had just returned from vacation, was checking messages, and managed to fit me in that following Monday. I couldn't believe my luck and jumped on the appointment immediately. Her office staff was wonderful, and Dr. Birns is absolutely superb. She smoothed the tooth, placed a temporary crown, and sent me on my way. A little over a week later, I returned for my permanent crown, and everything was perfect. I highly recommend Dr. Birns--she's funny, knowledgeable, and truly caring. And she refused to identify herself, her title. Through Google search we found out she is merely a Dental Hygienist diagnosing, pretending to be a Doctor while he is on vacation. Didn't even let us know when we made the appointment that there would be no REAL Dentist on the premises. She glued on the old crown temporarily, crooked and uncomfortable. And it fell off before my Mom could get to a next appointment. Just appalling! Luckily we found a great new dentist quickly. A REAL Doctor who sees the REAL needs of a 95 year old patient, instead of the almighty $$. What Dr Piedras Hygienist did is elder abuse and just really, really lousy work. Don't go to this place. If he goes on vacation and leaves such dishonest and unprofessional people in charge, it's probably a reflection of how he runs the whole place. If I could give them a ZERO, I would.
