We visited the gardens late morning through mid afternoon in August. Hot and still enjoyable! The gardens had plenty of shaded areas to walk, opportunities to explore exhibits that were inside air conditioned buildings like the historical Wray home museum, and a tram ride as well as misters around the tram station. I enjoyed the wood art sculpture installations throughout the park and all the birds. I recommend taking the tram tour as it is relaxing, our guide gave a nice narrated tour, and without going on the tram we wouldn't have seen some of the gardens. Staff is very friendly and helpful with information, including the gift shop employees. A good flamboyance of flamingos, although I did not take photos of those. There are plenty of other animals and also wildlife encounter shows throughout the day.
"Yes, American flamingos are considered native to Florida. Though they were hunted to near-extinction by the early 20th century, new research confirms they are returning, with growing populations in the Everglades, Biscayne Bay, and the Florida Keys." My Yelp friend, who was recently in Mexico at a park there, took a lovely photo of the Flamingos there. I liked the photo & said; "Great photo, my favorite OuiOui!" He asked me if I had been to that park to see them. I told him I had, and I had seen them in many many different places & parks. However, it was my wish that they would come back to the Everglades. He wrote me back & said, "I didn't know they left." I was very surprised by this statement. I thought everyone knew that American Flamingos were native to Florida & they have been pretty much extinct since the early 1900's. In the early 1900's, flamingos in Florida were nearly hunted to extinction for their meat AND their pink feathers, which were highly valued as fashion accessories for hats and fans. La vie en rose OuiOui. "Historically, large flocks lived in South Florida, but they vanished around 1900 due to the plume trade." They were also over hunted for food as they are considered a delicacy. So is the Blue Heron & the Sandhill Crane. The Sandhill Crane is known as "the filet mignon of the sky." If you look in very old cook books you will find recipes for all these birds. Thankfully, they are now protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) of 1918. This law prohibits the hunting, killing, capturing, selling, or transportation of protected migratory birds without a federal permit. I love all the Flamingos, American Birds. I'm always traveling around trying to get photos of all of them, especially in the wild. I write about this all the time OuiOui. The best place to see the American Flamingos up close right now, is at Flamingo Gardens. Flamingo Gardens is a 60 acre botanical park that was built in an old Orange orchard. It's an incredible place filled with beautiful tropical plants & flowers. There are orchids everywhere, gorgeous tropical birds everywhere, it sounds like you're in a jungle when you're there. It's a truly magnificent, magical place OuiOui. I'm so thrilled that the American Flamingos are coming back to their native Florida. The recent storms blew some of them in, all up and down the east coast, from the keys to upstate NY. You can see some small groups of them in the wild right now, however, it will take some time for their flocks to multiply back to where they should be, as Flamingos reach maturity slowly (6-7 years) and typically lay only one egg per year. In the meantime, you can see them up close & personal at the Fabulous Flamingo Gardens. Moi fave Botanical park in America. This is a great nature and animal attraction. Not a zoo but a non profit rescue and rehabilitation (and when possible, release) facility that is constantly evolving in its exhibits. The size is manageable for walking and the circulating tram provides a nice quick overview (and a bit of a rest). The paths are mostly shaded. The staff are truly dedicated to their mission. The wildlife encounters are informative and fun. The sculptures throughout are whimsically realistic. Everyone (except the cashier at the snack stand near the flamingos) was friendly and helpful. Free roaming peacocks and other critters make walking around even more fun. Give yourself at least 3 hours so you can see everything and time the educational presentations without being rushed. Things do run on schedule. It was not overly crowded at 2p on a weekday. Every fee was reasonable and we happily added a bit more to the donation boxes. A lot goes on behind the scenes in the care and feeding of the animals. They should somehow let the public see some of that-- I'm sure that would compel more donations!! Highly recommended and we'll return when next in the area.
Flamingo Gardens was established in 1927, and is one of the oldest botanical gardens and attractions in South Florida. It was originally founded as an orange grove, but has now become a nonprofit botanical garden. My wife has always told be about this place when we first started dating. Over the years I'm finally started going. I think she understated just was magnificent it truly is. They have hundreds of unique trees, some of which are the largest trees of their species in Florida. This is home to some of the largest collections of naturalized orchids, cycads, and heliconias. They have over 3,000 species of rare & exotic, tropical, subtropical, and native plants and trees. The Wildlife Sanctuary which is a home to permanently injured or non-releasable Florida native wildlife. Some of these animals include alligators, bobcats, eagles, otters, panthers, peacock, and of course, flamingos! I have to say that the tram tour, is my favorite part of this place. It takes you around the property showing many of the unique plants and trees. If you like birds, you can also head into the aviary and walk around with birds that are free flying. All through the year Flamingo Gardens offer different events. One of the eagerly anticipated events is the Party in Pink. This is to raise money for Flamingo Gardens. They have food and drink vendors come in, they have a silent auction and so much more. I would highly recommend this event. It is a great way to learn about Flamingo Gardens, meet some of the residents and have a great time and great food!
Loved an afternoon filled with rehab-release-rehome; this organization is fully sustained by the purchases of tickets as well as donations. An area lush with floral and history! Learn about how the land was cared for as well as the sacred lands of American Indians. You'll find the treasures and wonder of all the knowledge around to read and your guides who can share the stories too. It's so important to learn about the variety of animals that have been rehabbed to be able to be released again, but also the way of remaking homes for those who can not. They have a food spot right I the middle to quench hunger and thirst, a tram to drive you around the vastness and mobility scooters if you need to use for rent on site too. Loved this place and would return with friends and family whenever new visitors come.
Flamingo Gardens was a great family outing while we were in Florida. All the staff were nice and inviting. The kids had so much fun learning about the animals and being able to be up close to them. We loved being able to feed the ducks, taking in the scenery, shuttle ride around the park and seeing the butterflies, and seeing the details of the peacocks. I didn't get as many photos as I wanted to take but being able to experience this with the family is something we'll always remember.
Love this place! They have such beautiful birds and a few other animals too. There was a back to school theme happening that was really cute with a butterfly exhibit currently. We rode the tram first, this time. I really love how interactive the staff makes everything. It shows they love the animals and park! We really enjoyed the leisurely stroll through the park.
Great gardens, animals and included tram ride around the back of the 50 acres and butterfly garden. There are a ton of different trees and flowers across the property in addition to birds and gators. We really enjoyed the afternoon here and there is pretty of shade for the hot summer days as well. We spent about 3 hours here and could have taken longer since we skipped a few exhibits this time and rode the tram. They also have a snack bar and gift shop.
Attended the winter wonderland Extravaganza with family and friends. Wonderful show of holiday lights with many photo opportunities. Live music, s'mores station, Santa and much more. The park is beautiful. Looking forward to visiting during the day. I do feel the price is a little high for a family of five adults.

It was a gorgeous day for our Valencia Sound Orchid Club to visit Flamingo Gardens today in Davie. This was my first time here. This is a wildlife sanctuary filled with amazing birds, peacocks, flamingos, as well as magnificent grounds filled with ancient trees of all varieties, orchids, succulents, cactus. We took a guided tram ride through the thick of it which was about a half hour and walked through a butterfly pavilion. There's live music and areas to sit. It's a photographer's paradise. I loved the serenity. I'm amazed at all the beauty surrounding us in the middle of all the new construction going on. Thank goodness the animals and plants have this sanctuary.
I actually thought this was one of the best small zoo experience I've been to. The tram is free and you get a 25 minute tour of the estate. It's beautiful and they do a really good job keeping the place pretty. There are flamingos, turtles, and birds of different types. Peacocks walking everywhere - there is even an albino one! Private lot for the Gardens - fits maybe 20-30 cars
This place is wonderful. The birds are so cool. Such an amazing location. Definitely would be a cool place. If you had a wedding the flamingo were all there. The birds were wild. It was so nice to see them out. Lots of peacocks everywhere there in the trees, walking all over the place it was really beautiful.
We went here the other evening to visit their holiday light set up. It was incredibly cute and our son enjoyed himself seeing the birds that were present. The smores section was a nice holiday touch. Try to go early if you're going because wow, the crowds were beyond by the time we were ready to leave. We kind of felt like we had to race out of there. Hopefully more grounds will be opened to the public next year to offer more space or less allowed in the time slots booked. I would go again for my son to enjoy read more
This was such a great experience although I am terrified of birds. We got to feed the flamingos and did not get the see the entire botanical gardens as it is 63 acres. I only give it 4 stars because the tickets were $24 per person and I thought that was a bit pricey. If it was $15 perfect, but I understand the times have changed. This is definitely something anyone can do especially if you have out of town visitors. read more

Flamingo Gardens is a mix of a historic site, botanical gardens, and animal rescue/sanctuary (like a mini zoo). It's comparable to other nature and wildlife attractions/botanical gardens in the state like the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, and is an average to above-average experience. Admission is $24 per adult and $17 per child (ages 3-11). For comparison's sake, admission prices at the Sarasota Jungle Gardens are $24.99 per adult and $14.99 per child (ages 4-12), which we enjoyed a little bit more. It's possible to see and do everything in about 2 hours. Flamingo Gardens' scheduled activities include a "Wildlife Encounter" Show that occurs three times per day (11:30, 1:30, and 3:30) and tram tours that leave every 30 minutes, and on the hour. The Wildlife Encounter Show we saw was brief, featuring staff holding and talking about three different creatures: opossum, owl, and boa constrictor. The tram tour is basically a tour guide in the driver's seat of a Toyota Tundra pulling 3 tram trailers with rows of seats through areas of old growth plants/trees and some of the types of orchards planted in Florida, with a brief stop at a butterfly conservatory. For adults, the tram tour is interesting for the information shared on the trees, fruits, and other path-side sights (you can walk the route if you want to), but there's not much in terms of animal sightings (we saw Egyptian Geese and turtles). We visited every bird/creature pen/enclosure and found the aviary, river otter, and flamingo pond areas to be the most interesting. A small paper sack of flamingo food was a $1 add-on on top of the ticket prices, and this food was sold in limited quantities alongside admission. There weren't as many flamingos as we hoped to encounter, so feeding them was a bit challenging (too many people with food, and not enough hungry flamingos)--The flamingo pond is right next to the Snack Bar/Food Truck/Lunch Area, and we initially attempted to feed them during lunch time. It's probably best to interact with the flamingos at the start or end of the day...after lunch, we had more success feeding them since there weren't as many people around. Overall, our visit was just OK. Everything combined to simply meet our expectations and nothing more. Feeding the flamingos was the highlight of it all for the kids in our group. read more
What a wonderful place to visit right in Davie! Truly such a haven for lush plants, exotic wildlife, and beautiful walking paths. This will definitely be a place I take friends & family who come to visit. It's family-friendly and such a fun experience! I loved watching all of the animals and I was surprised how big the gardens were. I highly suggest going. It's perfect for all ages! read more
We had a very packed day and this was a great place to stop by! You can take your time and walk through all of the different sections if you have time or just walk through quickly to view the animals if you are on a time crush! It's all at your own pace! At the entry, there was a gift shop! Parking is also free! They had some exotic birds as one of the first exhibits, including a toucan! The flamingos were definitely my favorite part and the wild roaming peacocks was a close second! It was so cool seeing both birds very close up! The flamingo area didn't smell too great when we went but it was a great sight to see! There were a mix of bright pink and light pink Flamingos! We went on a very hot day and the whole thing involves walking outside, so bring lots of sunscreen! There were also white iguana's everywhere and baby alligators too! They also have scheduled bird shows at specific times! We couldn't make it to the shows and some of the exhibits were under construction, but overall it was a great experience! read more

There is much to see as you walk into what seems like a rainforest. The team ride (included with admission) is narrated and very informative with humor. I'd definitely recommend visiting this spot. read more
This place is massive!! It's called Flamingo Gardens but flamingos are a small part of it (a little disappointing but we got over it QUICK). We loved all the dinosaurs scattered throughout the park, very cool! You can buy food to feed the birds which was such a hit with the kids. Make sure you do the tram ride! It was awesome, informative, and very cool to see just how expensive the sanctuary is. We will definitely be back the next time we visit. read more
Being someone that does not support zoos and appreciates the rehabilitation and saving animals, I really enjoyed the experience. The property is very clean and the map provided is semi helpful, maybe marking where the Lego animals are on the map would have helped direct me better! I wish the animals stories were posted somewhere and I really wish there was a better viewing area for the flamingos. I did love seeing the peacocks running free! I understand this is not an inexpensive venture but I feel the cost was a little much, especially for a family or large group. But overall definitely a great experience! read more
First time visiting and it was a beautiful place to visit. There is an entrance fee. Parking is free. You can buy food pellets to feed the Flamingos. They have a variety of plants of trees. They refuge animals that can not be in the wild, so you will see Hawks, Alligators, Bear, Sea Otters, among others. The lunch spot is next to Flamingos, so you can enjoy your meal while watching them. There are quite a few peacocks as well roaming the gardens. They have a tram as well that takes you to other parts if you don't want to walk. They have a butterfly observatory, which is nice to see. Overall, it was a good experience if you have good weather to take a stroll and enjoy nature. read more

My mom and I have never been here and wow! We were both super impressed. The grounds and flowers are STUNNING. There's over 100 wild peacocks that live here, including 2 albinos! There's a whole bird area with a talk and show, along with river otters that include feeding and a talk. There's also a tram that runs every half hour and takes you to see more of the gorgeous grounds including a butterfly garden. There are multiple places to eat and a really cool gift shop, as well as an old house to tour of the original owners. Really cool history too! There's also lots of trees and shaded areas, but try to go before it gets too hot!! Highly recommend and would love to return! read more

Worth the time and money IMO. Surprisingly, there were far fewer flamingos than I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised by all the beautiful scenery. This is a large botanical garden made very accessible by a handicap accessible tram that will take you around the grounds while a member of staff narrates your visit. Turns out all the animals here are either being rehabbed or have been domesticated and can't be released back into the wild. This was a great way to spend a couple hours walking around. read more
Was expecting another cheesy money grabbing animal petting zoo experience and was pleasantly surprised. Came with my 10 year old nephew who is a fan of this place. Enter through a gift shop. Senior discount--yay! The premises are beautifully landscaped with many old trees so plenty of shade. You can take a little tram around the park. They have educational demonstrations every few hours. The person giving the demo was excellent and made a very interesting presentation with a baby alligator, a python, and other animals. On the grounds are hundreds of birds, especially flamingoes and peacocks which are pretty spectacular. Birds of prey including owls, bald and golden eagles, and other raptors are in large sized enclosures. There's a bear, panther, otters, turtles, and a bobcat. All the enclosures are clean and attractive. My understanding is that the birds/animals are injured somehow, or were pets, and cannot live on their own in the wild. There's a reasonably priced snack shop with sandwiches and salads etc. Free parking. read more

Title: Unacceptable Conditions for Grizzly Bear at Miami Zoo I recently visited the Flamingo Gardens and was shocked by the deplorable conditions of the grizzly bear enclosure. The bear had visibly matted fur and seemed neglected. The enclosure itself was far too small, dirty, and completely unsuitable for the animal's needs, especially in the hot Florida weather. I urge zoo management and animal welfare organizations to take immediate action to improve the living conditions of this grizzly bear. This situation is inhumane and unacceptable. Please, for the sake of this animal's health and well-being, make the necessary improvements. The bear was lying on the ground, barely breathing, clearly suffering from heat and lack of air circulation. It was heartbreaking to witness. It's evident that proper care and attention are not being given to this poor animal, and it's deeply disturbing that the zoo would allow such conditions. another question: Why do you need to have Grizzly bear in your Flamingo Garden?! Having Crocodiles and alligators in Florida in this kind of weather is OK. But not grizzly for sure. Send him back to the forests or much better place where Grizzlies are in good weather conditions. read more

We are annual passholders once again this year. This place offers so much education, nature and service based mentality to help animals in need. We loved the Dino exhibit this year and even the holiday lights that we saw during daytime. Be sure to take the train ride!!!!! The amount of knowledge you receive on this short ride about plants, animals and history is amazing. Our family came in town and the older kids loved learning fun facts about all the plants that thrive in Florida's humid climate. Be sure to attend one of the wildlife encounters! We learned all about skunks, alligators and hawks. Did you know alligators have geo tracking for where they receive food (hunted or given)? NEVER feed an alligator unless you want to see them again everyday! Highly recommend a visit here. read more

This place is perfect for the family! I brought my Mom and we spent about 2 hours walking around and enjoying the scenery and nature. So many nature sights and sounds to enjoy. The guided tram tour is full of education. One of the best parts is there is a lot of shade so walking around isn't too bad! I will definitely bring more family back to enjoy this south Florida gem. read more

This place is so incredible! For only $20/person you have access to flamingos, turtles, all types of birds (bald eagles and hawks included), otters (!!!), gators and more. This is a sanctuary and not a zoo so all of these animals are here for rehabilitation or to re-populate endangered species. I really enjoyed the tram tour (shoutout to Enrique for providing a ton of fantastic information about the gardens history) and the wildlife encounter was so fun. Marisela was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. You can also walk the tram trail. The tram tour takes a little under 30 minutes. My favorite part had to be the otter zone. Watching otters swim, play, and lounge in the sun was such a highlight. I can't wait to visit again. I recommended coming in the Florida "winter" months to take advantage of the cooler temps and sunny skies. read more

I visited recently with a friend and had an amazing time. When you enter you are met by peacocks strolling around. I can't believe that I fed peacocks lol We walked around and took lots of pictures. There's a butterfly house. There are starfruit and mango trees. This is a great place for a family day, date, or go on a solo date to self reflect. You don't have to visit with kids. If you're a photographer or like to do photography as a hobby this would be a great place to visit. I'm so upset that I haven't visited this place sooner. Birds pooped on me but everyone says it's a good omen so I'm waiting for the great things to come my way. read more

Visited on a quiet Saturday. A simple, walkable sanctuary for abandoned and injured animals and beautiful flora. Most native flora and fauna but some non-native reflecting their role as a sanctuary. Fauna - an abandoned bear, panthers, otters, iconic pink flamingos, toucans, tortoises, alligators, and numerous show-off peacocks. Flora - cypress, pines, non-native orchids and bamboo along the winding paths. Food huts and main ticket office and gift shop manned by helpful people. Good place to spend two-three hours. read more
It is a small but manageable garden with lots to do and see. Many Florida animals and birds as well as flora and fauna. And while it is not splashy like many Florida amusement areas, this one really convers all the bases at a reasonable price. Don't miss the Wild Adventure. The presenters are amusing and knowledgeable. I have to give a shout out to Oliva, who stole the show with her funny banter backed by deep expertise that comes out during question time. Lunches are limited. Smart visitors bring a snack. read more
Great place to experience Florida like it was in the 1930s. Flamingo Gardens started as a weekend home that expanded to a botanical garden and orange grove owned by the Wray Family. At one point, they owned the largest orange grove in South Florida. Interesting to learn about the original fruit stand. Today, it is nice to able to visit the botanical collections of rare and unusual tropical plants and fruit trees collected from around the world. Tour the original Wray Home to imagine living in a farm home almost a hundred years ago without air conditioning in the hot summers. So cute staged for the holidays. Ask the docent for a guided tour to learn more. Loved the Everglades aviary. So many different types of birds, including white pelicans, wood storks, brown pelicans, great blue herons, great egrets, snowy egrets, anhingas, and double-crested cormorants, to see. The bird of prey exhibit includes bald eagles, golden eagles, and owls. Enjoy the peacocks roaming the property. If you are lucky, you may even see a white (albino) peacock. Watch the zookeepers show to learn who has been naughty or nice. Take the tram to visit the acres and acres filled with moss covered 200-year-old Southern live oaks, palms, mango trees and aloe plants. Fun to see Egyptian geese and turtles enjoying the pond. Stop to see American black bears, otters, alligators, bobcats and Florida panthers. Interesting to meet the person who rescued the Florida Panther and how the panther remembered and kept searching for the man who saved him. And, of course, there are many, many pink flamingos. Nice place to spend a morning or afternoon. American Horticultural Society reciprocity pass is accepted. Plenty of parking available. Bring an umbrella or raincoat and some bug spray. Enter through the gift shop. Nice to see a menorah nestled amongst all the Christmas lights. read more
It was my first time visiting and I loved everything about it! I love animals and I love to see them being taken care of! All of the animals they have are taken care of as they cannot live in the wild. You do have to pay to go in, but parking is free. There are peacocks that run free and it is truly a beautiful park! Lots of animals to see and you are given a map to better navigate through! It truly is a hidden gem and I am glad I visited. read more
The employees seemed very happy to be there and help you with the check in process. Might have been some volunteers there as well but they seemed eager to help. Beautiful scenery. This place is a hidden gem! Great for adults, children and those in-between. The animals and gardens were amazing. Please go here, donate money, support the staff and cause. We had a tour from a 6th grade boy in the habitat and he was so knowledgeable of all the animals as a volunteer. As two teachers, we were very impressed! read more

We came here a little after 1pm on a Sunday. We made reservations online the day before and took advantage of the AAA discount. The parking was easy but they were renovating a building near the entrance. You enter first through the gift shop where you can also purchase entry tickets as well as food for the birds. Eash small bag of food was a dollar. We learned the park started as an orange grove with the Wray family about 1930 and comprises 60 acres. We entered the gardens through the back of the gift shop. There are a lot of hard surface trails to walk throughout the gardens with many tropical and subtropical plants and animals, mostly birds. We toured the original Wray home which is a museum on the property and staged as it would have been in the 1930s. We also took a tram ride through additional more remote areas of the sanctuary. The tour was enjoyable and informative and overall it was a good experience. We appreciated the fact we could walk around at our own pace and feel the entry fee was very, very reasonable. read more

My GF and I had an amazing time coming here and it's been ages since I last set foot inside this beautiful setting I had to bring my camera to take some amazing photos! I was amazed to learn about the history of the land and that it's now a habitat for injured animals. It was also really interesting to learn about the original owners of the land and we got to walk and see their home which has been kept and restored. Really takes you back in time! Peacocks and peahens (the term to call a female peacock) roam the ground freely and some are not afraid of humans and get really close. My favorite was the otter enclosure, it was really cute seeing the otters play in the pool. We also got to ride the trolley and see more of the whole area, its mostly full of vegetaion but still amazing nonetheless. read more

"Almost as good as Disney World!" - my 8 year old We have an AHS membership and live nearby so we decided to spend our NYE here with our daughter. Turns out we'll probably be here every weekend, because she had such a good time. As we were leaving she said it was "one of the best days ever that wasn't at Disney World" and that it was "almost just as good as Disney World". High praise from a family of Disney pass holders! read more

I am visiting from Texas and was very impressed! This is a stunning place to see all of the botanical gardens and animals. I especially loved all of the birds, some even talking to you! Everyone was very friendly and very nice facilities. It was great fun feeding the birds and Koi. My one request would be that the people there look more into requesting help from the local shelter for the FREE Trap and Release programs to help decrease the cat population/stop increased breeding. Some had their ears tipped (already altered) but many did not. We spoke to someone that was feeding the cats and they said they work with the cat program at the shelter and have volunteers that would be more than happy to help! read more

Found this attraction on a Miami things to do IG page...so glad I did! I love this type of stuff! From when you first arrive, the vibe was very inviting and you can see the grounds were very kept. I missed the 'animal exhibit' but was still able to do the self guided tour. So many birds that sing :) it was very serene even with all of the nature sounds. Because I took the long way around unknowingly, I didn't get to see the black panther and the bear (use the map people). But I saw so many beautiful peacocks, the butterfly conservatory, bobcat and of course the majestic flamingos. All of the animals seem well taken care of (sanctuary, not a zoo).
