The Flaming Gardens is a beautiful place to visit. but unfortunately we had a Terrible experience with the staff in the front desk by the name of Bianca and her manager by the name Margaret. They both had a attitude when we asked if they excepted David Fairchild's Botanic Gardens yearly membership pass. The reason we try to use our membership from David Fairchild was because we were told that we could. I would've not had a problem paying if they would've had a better attitude. I love this Lil place. It is the perfect size, not too big n not too small. I normally hate zoos as I think they are sad places for animals etc to live. However I love this place. I have been twice now once with my 18 yr old son and this time as a nanny with my charges. Both groups thoroughly enjoyed it. It is located in gorgeous pretty grounds with lots of foliage, pretty trees, quanit seating areas, nice pathways and an old house to look around..there are various points of interest to see which include flamingoes, birds of pray, turtles, alligators, duck, koi fish, brown bear, black panther, roaming peacocks etc etc. Also every half an hour they have a cute little tram ride that takes you all around the property with a friendly n fun narrated guide. It is very informative...you learn so much about the plants, trees and animals native Florida...such as...did you know that bamboo grows 1 inch every forty minutes? Yay for $7 Saturdays for the month of September! I love finding great deals for family fun. Flamingo Gardens offers an all-day pass for $7 for everyone. That's adults and children for one price. They usually run $19.95 for adults and $12.95 for children under twelve. With this great deal, we were able to experience the gardens for the day and all the cool exhibits they have to offer. I particularly fell in love with the flamingos and birds that we got to feed. On the way into the Aviary, they provide bird food (for a quarter) that you could use to feed any bird you see. There are birds walking around, flying ahead, swimming, and chilling on benches. They get really close and personal so watch your step! There is bird poop everywhere. We are after all walking through their home. The tram ride runs every 30 minutes so don't worry if you've just missed it, it'll come back around. On that ride, we learned about the many fruit-bearing plants', animals, mainly birds that they've taken in because of some kind of ailment or another. A broken wing, a deformity at birth, or simply no home to live. The Flamingo Gardens is a place for these animals to live and make a home for themselves. One of the cutest exhibits was the beavers. They seem to love putting on a show for us as if they knew we were watching. If you've never seen a peacock up close you'll see them here. They are everywhere, just walking around, coming close to you, and running away if you show some interest. There are male and female peacocks, and a few white males as well. They are absolutely beautiful! We walked around for a little while we sipped on some smoothies to keep us cool. There are so many trees in the garden so finding shade isn't a problem, but the humidity was fierce. There are a few places to grab a bite to eat. And on $7 Saturdays, there is a $7 food menu provided as well. They have a beautiful gift shop that also sells gifts at $7. They offer an annual membership and what a great way to find out if you'd like a membership than to get in at this special rate. But, you only have two more Saturdays in the month of September to give it a try. read more

Went to the colorful Flamingo Gardens on a beautiful Saturday at 11:00AM. Tickets are accessible online and they do not have to be printed out, but make sure the purchase/serial code is ready at the counter; they can also be purchased at the counter. Discounts are available to certain personnel's. Staff are super friendly and masks are required on at all times except for those under 2(?) and those with breathing problems. The leisurely walk can be finished in less than 1.5 hours, is set at our own pace, and is very calming as arrows point in one direction and many people practice the 6ft social distancing; however, there are people who took off their masks during this self-tour. Tall trees provide a lot of shade to prevent overheating. The animals are very cute, friendly, and lively, but make sure to not feed them as told by the signs. Trams are also available, but social distancing does not seem applicable on them. Small informative muesum-like sessions are also a highlight of this tour and a great break from the heat outside. My fiancé and I visited Flamingo Gardens on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 1pm and parking was easy to find. Not overcrowded at all! I learned Flamingo Gardens is a non-profit during my trip, so the $20 price point seems fair. They help rehab injured animals to release back into the wild. The gardens provide a lot of shade, so even on a hot day it's not too too bad. With wild peacocks wandering around, Flamingo Gardens is truly a hidden gem. Great for getting up close and personal with some of the animals. You can find a black bear, a panther, owls and more! Overall, my experience was great! The day I visited the otters seem to be hiding and to be honest, that was the one thing I wanted to see. Bummer. But come to Flamingo Gardens, it's for a good cause! read more

Everything about this place is AMAZING! The staff and volunteers are very kind and helpful. It is amazing to know that all of the animals at this sanctuary are rescued. They also release many animals after helping them. We got here just in time for the first animal encounters show. We saw an owl, a skunk, and a snake. We also fed flamingos which was undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. They are surprisingly gentle! We went on a lovely day. All of the animals were out and visible, which was very exciting. We also did the shuttle around the property, and the tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable. He was also funny, which made the experience even more fun and entertaining! This is a great place for people of all ages; it is also wheelchair accessible. We saw a few people in wheelchairs enjoying their time! We traveled over an hour from our hotel to Flamingo Gardens, which was SO WORTH IT! We spent over 4 hours taking our time and having fun at the sanctuary. read more

Looking to getaway for a few hours and feel like you left South Florida, take a trip here that's just off 595 and Flamingo, and head south about a couple miles. There's so many beautiful gardens to enjoy, and tons of wildlife and even foods to snack on, you and your family will really enjoy time spent. Amazing place. I read the reviews about the flamingos. I think people who were let down thought it was like a zoo. It had much more than I had expected. We went to see the trees, plants, flowers and a few birds. My mother is older and I happen to be pregnant, with covid-19 going on we wanted a slower paced quiet safe place. This went above and beyond expectations. There is a short tram that takes you around the grounds and explains the plants and area and Troy the swan that lives at the little lake/pond. We saw ducks, peacocks, iguanas, turtles, and all the birds in the habitats. All have been injured in some sort of way and are recovering. They seemed happy and well taken care of. Honestly this was a amazing time. We didn't feel rushed. We felt safe in our surroundings (most everyone wore a mask) and the bathrooms were clean. The only side note I would say is that we did go on a Tuesday early/mid morning so it wasn't super crowded. I don't know how the weekends are. But I would say it's worth the trip! It's a nice area with wildlife and especially that we love to spend some time: playing and just hanging out on a grass area where the weddings usually held. We went here as a fun social distancing activity but when we were there a lot of people weren't wearing masks (even though they require it doesn't seem like they enforce it). We were expecting to spend 3 or so hours here but only spent a little over an hour. This a big place with variety of animals but some of the exhibits just seemed a bit run down/not that well maintained. There is a tram to get around as the place is big but we didn't feel there was that much to do aside from looking at the animals. The shows weren't going on when we were there so maybe that would've been more interesting. However, the museum isn't much of anything and the gardens were nice but not much to look at (most of it was wide open green space). With my two days at Fort Lauderdale, I took a couple of hours to come to the Flamingo gardens! I absolutely love animals and this is a great place to take kids and a nice place to come to during the pandemic without worrying about going indoors. Everything is basically outdoors. Order tickets online and enter between your entry times. Grab a bag of flamingo or aviary food at the cashier when you enter at the gift shop! They're only a $1 a bag. When you go to the aviary house or the flamingo pond, you can feed the birds and flamingos! The flamingos eat right out of your hand! Also saw lots of peacocks and a male peacock that opened up his feathers for us! Did not however get to see the albino male peacock that the staff member said there was. Somewhere to kill some time, but not a compelling destination. It's sort of like the roadside-zoo equivalent of a botanical garden. There's some solid tropical plantings, a small variety of animals, but the habitats are on the small/crowded side, the aviary is overcrowded, and there's minimal to non-existent interpretation. Despite the name, there's not many flamingos. The gift shop is the only full-featured part of all this. Healthiest / prettiest: Native plants, large caged parrots, wandering peacocks. Least inspiring: Small habitats, minuscule gator pool, pelicans that are far more ragged than anything you'd see around regional marinas. For adults, this is an hour of distraction, max. The place is much too small to need the "included" tram-- seniors and toddlers only. If you've been to any regional parks / gardens outside of Broward, you will not be impressed. Especially for the price. Bottom line: you want to wander around randomly, entertain the kids, do something accessible for seniors to get outside the house? Perfect. Flamingo Gardens is rather unique in that it is a combination of a botanical garden and a wildlife sanctuary. As a wildlife sanctuary its purpose is to provide residence for birds and animals that have been so severely injured that they are considered non-releasable. For that purpose it has a 25,000 square foot aviary with some 250 birds, and alligator lagoon, a bird of prey center, a black bear habitat, a flamingo pond which flamingo pond seems to be the highlight of the place, along with a Florida panther habitat, a turtle walk and more. There is also a food truck, Flamingo Gardens Grill with patio and shelter for eating. For tours of the botanical gardens its best to take a tram ride as it is narrated and the distance you cover can be a little much for walking unless you're a true hiker. There is also a wedding gazebo with cutouts for you to stick your head into to become a groom or a bride. Naturally I preferred the bridal wedding dress and confess that I spent some time there in hopes some nice young man might come along and marry me. But alas, none showed up; none would have me. Boo Hoo with tears in my eyes! Sob, sob, sob. Overall, Flamingo Gardens is a great place to see as you'll learn a lot about native Florida, various animals and birds. read more

This wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center is such a great place. They try to release as many animals as possible after rehabilitation and take care of the ones that can't be safely released. We were able to sit through a wildlife encounter (included in the ticket price, 3 times a day), and go to see many adorable animals and gorgeous plants and trees. I would recommend going with a few hours to spend so you have enough time to see all of the exhibits they offer. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town! read more

Everything was great until I went to leave and the very rude older lady at the customer service counter said "you can't take feathers" I'm sorry there is no policy that says you cannot. No Signs. And no one else was stopped for "taking bird feathers" she 100% ruined my time and I will NEVER return or recommend. I used to have season passes and come here all the time when my kids were little. Parking is free and there is lots to see & do for all ages. I hadn't been in about 10 years so I decided to take my mom for a nice outing. The park is very reasonably priced at about $15 for an adult ticket. There are so many amazing animal exhibits, Florida Panther, bobcat, black bear, flamingoes, otters, and of course the aviary and birds of prey exhibits. The aviary is full of all kinds of birds and ducks including spoonbills, cormorants, ibises, and pelicans. You can stroll through and feed them by hand, or have a seat on one of the benches to relax and admire their grace and beauty. The birds of prey exhibit is great also. Although the birds are caged; I believe they are all rescues that cannot be released in the wild. There are all kinds of hawks, owls of all sizes and varieties, turkey vultures, and even a bald eagle. The animal shows were cancelled on my visit, May 2020, due to covid-19 precautions; but there was still much to see & do. Most of the mammals, black bear & big cats on display were resting during the hot day. The otters on the other hand; were swimming and frolicking for all to see! I was impressed to see their habitat had at least quadrupled since my last visit.. they had little houses, Adirondack chairs, slides and lots of area for swimming. They are definitely entertaining, and a fan favorite! The place is called "Flamingo Gardens" and there are many beautiful and colorful flamingoes on exhibit; however there are even more peacocks. There were some outside the entrance to greet us, and even more all through the park on the grass, paths, and a few even up in the trees. A few were showing off their beautiful feathers for a mate, or perhaps for the tourists with cameras. They have several trams; but they were only running them on the hour when I visited. They had every other row closed for "social distancing," and guests from other families/parties could not share a row. I would suggest getting to the tram station a few minutes early because several hopeful riders had to be turned away and wait another hour for the next tram. The tram takes you on the 20 minute ride all through the gardens and our knowledgeable driver pointed out every kind of tree and flower imaginable. Who knew there were over 200 species of mangoes? They literally have flowers and plants from all over the world. The tram ride is a great way to get off your feet, catch a breeze, and learn something new about plants. In addition to the plants and animals there is a snack bar that serves all kinds of snacks including burgers, salads, chips, and ice cream. I was excited to order one of the many flavors of fruit smoothies; however they were out of mango, pina colada, and strawberry; so I ended up ordering a raspberry smoothie. It was good, but it didn't appear to be made with fresh fruit. Before exiting there is a huge gift shop with almost any kind of souvenir you could want from your visit. They have t-shirts, stuffed animals, books, jewelry, and decorative items for the home. Plus, there is a plant shop right at the main entrance; so after a day of looking at and learning about plants you have the opportunity to buy a few of your own! Cool sanctuary for animals. Use your AAA card to get a 25% discount. I think it was around $16 with discount, if you don't have AAA they also have online coupons on their website, right now it is $2 off. There is a tram ride that goes every half hour, it takes about 25 minutes, it is guided and they tell you about the gardens, the history, the flora and the fauna. There is also a 30 minute animal show a few times per day where they tell you about some of the animals in FL and in the gardens, today was snakes, possums, and owls. They remind you to donate to help support the gardens and the care of the animals. There is a gift shop to buy all sorts of merchandise. There is a food truck, a few snack stands (giant oranges), and some snack bars to buy food. There are all kinds of interesting vegetation, including some FL champion trees. There are plenty of different animals to view from a panther, to a bear, ibis, flamingos, peafowl/peacocks, ducks, alligator, turtles, otter, etc. It is comparable to some other botanical gardens I have been to but with many more animals than other places. You could see some of the damage from Hurricane Irma, which destroyed some of the plants and trees. Right now there is a nighttime light show, with all kinds of holiday light displays, I think it is from 5-8. If you like gardens and animals, and are in the area you should check it out. read more

We had our wedding here on December 2nd. What a beautiful venue! Their setting with the ceremony facing a massive banyan tree and spacious area and building to have the reception there as well is what sold us on the location. Having peacocks roam through eating flower pedals was an added perk as well. Michelle and Bri were great accommodating what we needed for our rehearsal even with other events changing their times last minute, and Michelle in particular was very helpful getting us access and staff to help with photo reshoots a month later. They offer AAA Discounts so the price is affordable and you can spend several hours enjoying the sights. There is also an old house on the premises that is amazing. Like going back in time. Had lots of fun walking around. The only problem I had was during the tram ride. There was a chain attached between the tram and the truck and as you are trying to enjoy the ride and hear the guide the chain dragged on the pavement making a grating sounds. read more

They are so nice in the store then you continue walking down the paths of seeing animals. , a flamingo spot you can also take a tram to learn so much more and someone's house is there that you can learn about the history . They also have a snack bar a juice bar and a little restaurant I love coming here and will always come back so much to do you can spend so many hours. On hot days make sure you hydrate. Flamingo Gardens is okay. It could be improved. If they had the funds, then it could be a really nice place. I liked the big trees by the entrance. The kids love climbing on them. After entry, I was greeted by clogged toilets in the bathrooms by the entrance. The flamingos are obviously the big attraction. There are some other white birds around too. The otters & alligators had horribly smelly habitat. It's probably the worst smelling area of a zoo like place I've ever smelled. Overall, there's not a ton to do, read, or learn but it seems like a nice place to spend an afternoon and push a stroller around. read more

This is a great park. Well it is much more than just a park - it's a BOTANICAL GARDENS & EVERGLADES WILDLIFE SANCTUARY. Great place to visit and relax and enjoy nature. It's not overwhelming for kids, and its easy to navigate around. I love the tram ride that is every 30 minutes with a guided narration. Sometime people are eating or talking loudly and you miss what's being said, which can be annoying, but overall a nice way to see the property. They have a flamingo pool (great pictures!) and peacocks wander around as well. There is an old plantation house museum, where a docent will show you things and share info if you want to hear about things. Wildlife Sanctuary includes : ALLIGATOR LAGOON, Florida's native alligators. AVIARY, (250 birds representing more than 45 species native to Florida, most of whom are permanently injured and no longer able to live in the wild. The five unique ecosystems of the Florida Everglades are represented through the display of native plants; coastal prairie, mangrove swamp, cypress forest, subtropical hardwood hammock, and sawgrass prairie. BIRD OF PREY CENTER - a variety of owls, vultures, hawks, falcons as well as Golden and Bald eagles. These birds are either at-risk or endangered and cannot be released because of injuries sustained in the wild. BLACK BEAR HABITAT Flamingo Gardens built Josh a new 8,000 sq. ft. habitat with his own pool and bear cave and brought him here to live in 2013. We were among the last to leave but they were still playing. One disappointment - not enough flamingos. A great day overall. We went here on the recommendation of a relative that loved it. We had a good time but given the price and attractions, it would only be worth visiting one time given the 45 min drive each way we drove. Maybe we just went on an off day as the bear and otter cages seemed unavailable and some other animals (like the gator and panther) were missing; it's quite possible the latter was just sleeping or hiding in a corner or under a bush. You'll see tons of flamingos and peacocks of course and it's pretty cool to see the former climb trees and make their courting display. You'll also see plenty of giant, colorful iguanas running around. The grounds are really nice and given how spread out they are I'd take the tram tour for sure. If you are a tropical flora-type person you will enjoy this quite a bit as it's very informative and there's a lot of agricultural history here from its origins as a citrus farm. We were traveling with small children and I would not say this (the tram) was a great activity for them but they'll tag along ok. They have food for the giant coy fish and for the flamingo pond which the little ones will enjoy. Note about the flamingos: it's difficult to get close enough to feed them but easier to feed the smaller white birds. It's unclear who the food is intended for and whether we should be feeding flamingos anyways. The wildlife encounter, recommended to us and happen at scheduled points a few times a day, involves seeing and learning about some of the animals on site. We saw three animals, a snake, an owl, and a skunk. It's nice that everything comes included with your park entrance but I didn't find the talk particularly engaging, and again, certainly not aimed at younger kids. Given that it's free for under three year olds though this makes some sense but our relative said that her encounter was much more interactive and kids could come and see the animals from up close. The butterfly "garden" is an open air area that's pretty small and again, maybe it was just our timing, but it was mostly disappointing. We didn't see much and we couldn't even find the hummingbird area either. On the other hand, the flamingo pond was cool and they are plentiful. In general the signage could be a lot better at this place, both for indicating where to find different things and for providing information about the flora and fauna there. We missed the aviary but heard this was nice as the birds walk and fly all around you. On the plus side, everybody was very nice and approachable and it was a very peaceful place. They have some enormous, beautiful trees and plants. They also only take animals that are truly in need of rescue, as in they would struggle to survive in the wild on their own. Ask about the story behind the toucan near the entrance as it's a good example of how such a rare and beautiful animal came into their possession (also watch him eat blueberries if you have the chance). Food and beverage wise they have a few different options including a fresh smoothie cart in the shape of a big orange (didn't try this but the popcorn sold there didn't look great), a food truck, and a snack bar. There's some overlap with food options with the latter two but they have enough options I think most people would be able to find something, including a few vegetarian options. We tried the wings, which were surprisingly good, and fries. My folks did not like the philly cheese steak because the spices (similar to grocery store taco mix spices imo) were not what they were expecting. Fries were just ok. During our recent vacation, we visited several wildlife refuges/rescues in South Florida and Nassau Bahamas. Flamingo Gardens was a must visit, especially with children, in my opinion. First, the admission was very reasonable, much cheaper than some. Second, the up close and personal exhibits were outstanding. Third, while mainly birds, Flamingo Gardens has the best aviary I've visited. You actually walk among the birds as they go about their routines all around you. We were there during feeding time. It was a blast. Flamingo Gardens is more than 100 years old and the former family home of the proprietor. Peacocks run loose about the grounds. They had 100 year old Live Oaks and some of the largest trees in the state. We loved the gardens and all the birds. I strongly recommend a visit. read more
