And as usual, he was right! This neighborhood spot reminds me of the diners we used to flock to as kids ~ but upgraded. First of all, the place is absolutely spotless, the first thing you notice as you enter. And the smell! Delicious and enticing! A long banquet of Cuban favorites from pastries full meals. But that's not all! Pizza, salads and dessert custards and novelties. The staff is friendly and enthusiastic. Tables and booths and the space is huge. I have a feeling some fabulous events have been put on here. And I know for sure we'll be back! Oh and let me add ~ I don't speak any Spanish. It was not at all an issue ordering. I tried their coconut pastry and also a ham and cheese empanada. Both hit the spot. Service was fast and super friendly. This is a typical Cuban hang out spot. Not gourmet, but rustic cafe style, in and out style and take away. I am a huge thrifter, and this little place is smack bang in the middle of the shopping centre where the three thrift stores are. The atmosphere is ok, the service is hit and miss depending on the staff members some are pleasant and others are not. The quality of the food is the issue sometimes it's good and other times not so depending what you desire to have, variety of meat to choose from along with various rice and side items. The issue is sometimes the meat are either overcooked or not tender, along with undercooked Yuca & plantains which I love. I don't get it. The five star reviews this place has are surprising, because my group couldn't find any redeeming qualities. We ended up leaving after appetizers and drinks because service was slow, one of the shakes was just awful and poorly made, and the appetizers were on the lower end of "just ok." We asked to place our order twice in 15 minutes, and she told us she'd get back to us, walked away. Twice. Finally we just paid and left. The menu is very very limited, probably half a dozen choices. First time we noticed this place. My husband was excited to find pig feet. It's a casual cafeteria where you can see what they have behind the glass showcase. They give you a plenty food. My husband and I happily shared the plate of pig feet and rice. Food was good and congri was seasoned well. I also tried chicharon which was bit hard. Maybe I won't order next time. The food is amazing. Wide variety of all things baked goods, snack, etc. however the reason im leaving 4 stars is because the service is just alright. I get the servers might be tired and all that... but for me to go in there at 4 pm and get a weird kind of off attitude from the server was not very pleasant at all. Nice looking Cuban restaurant - buffet style kind of like el Palacio de los Jugos. I got a bunch of things including pork ribs in sauce , crispy rice beans, plantains, fried yucca stuffed with beef , black beans , crispy chicken pieces and a fresh squeezed orange juice . It was hit and miss, I wasn't a fan of the pork ribs but I don't really like those kind of spare ribs anyway, the yucca was good, but the croqueta tasted rotten or rancid and everything else was just so so. I don't think I would go back even though they have a variety of nice looking Cuban dishes. read more

I've not been to Flamingo Plaza for thifting for a while (my bad). We were there yesterday to meet a group. After our program we need a quick lunch and my husband found this place on-line. It's a Cuban buffet with a huge selection of freshly cooked food. I stayed simple - roast chicken with yucca and tostone. The server insisted I have salad, she must have given me half of an avocado. The yucca was just perfect, smooth and yummy. Chicken also perfect. My husband had the ropa vieja with moros and maduros. Maduros were sweet and gooey. His portions could have served 3 people. I've never been to a Cuban/Latin Restaurant that it wasn't good. And I hate to do this review, because the ladies serving the food are VERY nice. The Restaurant is very clean and spacious, but the food SUCKS. :( All dishes looked DRIED, but we were starving.-and I figured, how bad could it be if the employees are nice, and the place is clean? I just assumed that because it was a cuban restaurant, it just had to be good. BUT The Chicken was SUPER DRIED! Terrible! I had to manually separate the chicken meat, so I could give my son chicken that was semi soft, if not he would choke on the several very hard areas. The rice/beans and plantains were the only thing good. The food was not old I think, it was just SUPER DRIED and over cooked. Please get rid of your Chef, cause he is overcooking all your food and you are loosing clients. My hubby's sandwich had barely any ham filling inside, it was more bread than anything else. $30 down the drain. Will definitely NOT come back. read more

Terrible service. The waitress was hard to communicate with even with native Spanish speakers. Would disappear and not let us order food. When we asked the last time to order she said she was waiting on us, then asked us to wait 2 minutes then disappeared or several more minutes before we decided to leave. The croquettas we got did not taste good, and the shakes weren't even cold. This place has all the cuban food you can ask for. It's cafeteria/buffet style. There are tables to sit. You walk up to the glass and ask the staff member to fill your plate with the food items you want. You proceed to pay and take a seat. I was able to order grilled chicken steak, mashed potatoes and maduros. The meal with a drink came out to about $11. Therefore, you get a large amount of food for an inexpensive price. I am from out of town and a friend recommended this place for good cuban food that's reasonably priced and delicious and she was so right! We had the pork, congris, boiled yuca, plantains, imperial rice, and borachita (not in picture) and it was all so amazing! Very authentic and owned and run by a great family! After speaking to one of the friendly and talkative Cuban immigrants now living in Hialeah, she told us that the restaurant has been open only 5 days but you would never know it. The place is full of people! They offer the traditional Cuban bakery items like pastelitos, empanadas, an array of deserts, and of course cuban coffee! The sweet black syrup of energy from the coffee gods! The plates are served a la carte. You choose one protein and two sides. My boyfriend and I shared ropa vieja, which shredded beef cooked in a tomato based sauce with green and red peppers, white rice and black beans. As a second generation Cuban-American raised in Miami, I know a thing or two about Cuban food, and I highly recommend this place for a delicious meal that doesn't break the bank! read more
