I'm from LA and I was looking for a good soul food spot while visiting NYC. My friends told me about this place I am very happy that they did. The environment is friendly, the service is great and that makes the food taste that much more better. I had the jerk chicken, candy yams and a side of baked mac & cheese. It was out of this world. I also had a glass of mango and pineapple lemonade and it was by far the best lemonade I've ever had. There are millions of places to eat in New York City but is definitely one I would recommend. What a lovely and cute place! Came here for brunch on a Saturday shortly before 12 and were seated right away. After reading the reviews we were prepared to wait for our food, which they also mention in their menu. It took about 40-45 minutes, which didn't seem unreasonable and we also got unlimited mimosas so we were enjoying ourselves. The food was awesome. The fried chicken is so good, juicy, crispy, flavorful! The banana french toast is incredible, the filling was banana-heavy, I wish it had some creamy flavor as well. I cannot recommend this place enough! There is a reason it is so highly rated. Not only is it family owned and run, they have some of the best staff I have ever encountered. The place is small but the atmosphere is everything and more! The music is so on par too. Now when it comes to the food, EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was a chef's kiss. I don't know if it's because their food is seriously made with love or they just know how to throw down in the kitchen, or both, but it was scrumptious. Plus they give you good portions - enough to take home. I got the jerk chicken and waffle. Now I'm not usually a fan of jerk sauce but the way this chicken was cooked was mouthwatering. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and was super excited to finally check it out! I don't believe they take reservations but when we went around 1pm on a Saturday we were able to snag a table with about a 15 min wait. Like others mentioned, be prepared for superrr slow service and workers who have no desire to be there. We stood by the hostess desk for a good 10 min before anyone even acknowledged us. It also took a while for our orders to be taken and for food to come out. We also had to ask for basic things like water and a clean fork. Let's break down the food now: Coffee: hard pass. Super bitter Cod fish fritters: this was a special for the day. Very tasty and well seasoned. Came with duck sauce? Mac & cheese: this was pretty good. Had good flavor and nice presentation Pancakes: decent, gets the job done. Came here after church one day with a friend. We were told a 30 minutes wait and we obliged. After around 40 minutes and hunger pangs, we called to find out what's up, and they were able to accommodate us. That was the first eye raiser, why weren't we called? The inside is tiny, like really tiny! We were seated and it took maybe 30 minutes for our food and drink order to be taken which was unacceptable. After we take our food order, the food takes maybe another 30-40 minutes for it to come. At this point, we were there for an hour with nothing on our table but waters. We were so hungry and this just made us even more angry. Finally our food came! It was piping hot and fresh. The salmon was great, perfectly cooked, and the collard greens were delicious. The Mac and cheese however was salty, and was more runny than gooey. It was so salty, I had some of my friends toast to get the taste off my tongue. Her French toast was delicious, not too sweet. However she asked for her eggs well done and it was more of a soft scramble. Lastly, the bill came and they added on 20% gratuity...it was only my friend and I but I guess it's mandatory? The service was so terrible, had it not been added on already, we would've left nothing. The food itself is good but not good enough for me to look past terrible service. This is the only thing that would make me consider coming back. Service: 4/10- very overwhelmed staff and very frazzled. I think the restaurant is fairly new but it was delightful. They had a combination of brunch items and dinner options. I elected to go for the jerk chicken dinner and it was a winner. This spot was on my list for a while so I was so excited to go and have a girlfriend brunch here. The place is very small but I did not feel cramped when seated. There was a little bit of a wait to be seated but the hostesses were very gracious. They did inform us that one of the empty tables was being used for busing dishes. It struck me as a little strange to give up seating that could be used for a paying/waiting customer to dirty dishes and glasses but ok... Be prepared to wait. They say it on their menu when they ask for understanding around taking time to create fresh food. It's in multiple reviews but it does take a long time to get your meal. It feels overly long though given the very small number of tables and patrons. They were out of the spiked sorrel. So I had to get the rum punch which was still good. I came here on a whim at around 2pm. We were the first people there so it seemed like they were just opening. The staff sat us down & I ordered the strawberry passionfruit lemonade. After giving that a taste, I knew the food would be good at the least. I will confirm what most review stated. Yummo! Both styles of chicken were flavorful, moist and well seasoned (only dark meats, leg & thigh, for those that like white meat-heads up). The waffles were on the fluffy and cake-ish side, no crunch. But it was good and love the berries on top. For chicken & waffles it is pricey at $23 a plate. My friends and I ordered a side of Codfish Fritters and a Small side of Mac & Cheese, which were delicious but nothing special about them. The Codfish was mostly doughy and barely had any codfish in it. The Mac and Cheese looked delicious from previous Yelp review photos but ours didn't look or taste that special other than the cilantro on top and wasn't consistently cheesy throughout. Even the Strawberry Cheesecake pancakes was different from what I imagined it to be. I thought it was going to be more like a cheesecake but FlamingoBABY Kitchen was a little too literal and lacked creativity with putting melted cheese between each pancake stack and drizzled it with strawberry syrup and whip butter. Lastly the service wasn't really the best. My friends and I could tell that the staff were highly stressed with getting orders wrong for other costumers and they took a good long while to prepare our food, which didn't add to the experience. In all reality, I wish I could've given this restaurant a higher rating but I don't think I can this time around. They have a great selection on their brunch menu, they also offer all of their lunch foods too I believe. I got the jerk chicken and waffles, our party of 4 shared the banana stuffed French toast. The jerk sauce was the right balance of flavor, chicken was juicy, and waffles were great. The fried chicken was also super crispy and juicy. The French toast was such a great dessert/treat, the stuffing in the middle reminded me of fluffy banana pudding. Their Mac n cheese was super cheesy and creamy. They're working on getting their liquor license, but their non alcoholic drinks were good. My friends loved the passion strawberry lemonade, and I really enjoyed my mango lemonade. I called ahead because I heard the weekend brunch wait can be crazy. *I had the biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs because if a menu has biscuit and gravy on it, I have to try. *My friend had the Cobb salad, a side mac+cheese ,and a side of greens. I ordered chicken and waffles - the fried chicken was seasoned very well and the waffles were fluffy and topped with powdered sugar, blueberries and strawberries. My friend ordered a burger with fires, in which she enjoyed. The burger patty was seasoned well, once you take a few bites, you'll see onions and peppers inside. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese, ooey gooey! The chefs definitely put their foots into these dishes! For drinks, I had the tropical mimosa and pine & ginger juice. Both yummy. My friend ordered the strawberry passionfruit lemonade, in which she said was good, but was little disappointed there wasn't much strawberry in the drink (you'll see in the photos).
