Stopped in for lunch recently. The inside of the restaurant smelled fishy, so we opted to sit outside, which was a big mistake. So many people were smoking out there and the bums were coming in to have a sit. One man was chain smoking and ordering a pot of tea and more milk every 5 minutes. The food was OK, but I get totally ripped off when we were forced to pay before we got our food (I didn't have an issue with that) but he waitress basically forced me into tipping her. What I get was a rip off was the €6 garlic bread which ended up being four extremely small pieces. After adding on for a tip, which was unwarranted, the expensive garlic bread was a sham. read more

I was excited to try this restaurant because the menu sounded so good but was so disappointed.... Atmosphere: Different than I expected. I thought it would be much more tavern like but it was kinda old fashioned. The furniture looked like something from a Victorian house. The lighting was dim and noise wise it was pretty quiet because it was a dead night. The booth that we sat was covered in velvet red cloth but when I sat the padding squashed way down and was pretty uncomfortable.... Service: Terrible.The place was dead when we went and it took forever for someone to come take our order. I guess our food came pretty quick, likely because it was so dead, so I will give them that. It was brought over by a completely different person though. No one stopped to ask us how our food was. No one checked to see if I needed more water. We sat there with our dishes after we were clearly done for a good 10 minutes before anyone decided to come clear our dishes. Again, this was by a different server. Then, our check took another 10 minutes to come. Clearly they had plenty of staff because they were all standing around socializing with one another. As a former waitress, I was not impressed at all. Food: My boyfriend got the Cajun Chicken Burger and he thought it was decent. He is also not one to complain. He didn't rave about it though so it was just kinda meh. It came with fries and he said those were pretty good. I got "grilled salmon on a bed of champ mash, veg, with beurre blanc sauce". So first, the salmon wasn't anything special. Very bland and a little over done. The sauce on top was a cream sauce that had pools of butter oozing out. The mashed potatoes were too stiff and had lumps. The vegetables were the most disappointing part though. I was hoping for some fresh green beans or zucchini or medley or something but ended up getting some weird butternut squash mix and cabbage. Totally gross. The presentation of my plate was also terrible. Everything looked like it had been thrown onto the plate without any care what-so-ever. Take some pride in your cooking chefs! Geesh! There was no bread basket or anything either. Totally lame. I basically choked it down just because I was hungry and wanted something to eat. I just couldn't eat much of it though. I just didn't want it because it was so wasn't enjoyable. Cost: WAY over priced for what you get. Maybe not portion wise but quality wise absolutely a rip off. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I go here. Ever. Nor will I ever recommend it to anyone else. Go somewhere else. Especially, if you are a tourist. Don't waste one of your meals here. read more

I think I would've been better off at the McDonald's next door. The service was rude, ignorant, and lazy. That was just from a few waiters that stopped by because I flagged them down (more like jumped out of my seat to get them), our actually waitress didn't feel like bothering with us. The place smells, I don't know what they were doing below but you could have easily passed out trying to make your way to and from the bathroom. The seats were sticky along with everything there. The worst part is that the food was pretty much inedible. Greasy, bland, and fatty (even the salad was disgusting)... I would even feed it to a dog. I loved this place! I was waiting to meet a friend in the city and felt a bit peckish and had time to kill. The venue itself is quite nice and gives you a fancy feel, the staff is wonderful and really nice, fantastic service. I ordered fries with aioli and some tea for later. The fries were good and the aioli came in abundance which a lot of places could learn from because it is so good you always end up needed more! I was very happy with my meal here and I will be back to try a more substansial meal as well, also very affordable! read more

A bit of a controversial experience in dining out here. Both stars in this particular case go to the waiting service Date: 24th August 2017, time: around 19:45 pm. Service was really good to us, me and my female friend - very sweet female staff greeting us in the doors, leading us to tables, advising us of where to better seat depending on what sort of setting we preferred depending on mood or weather, if it was to be inside or outdoors, then this great professional knowledgeable young waiter guy who took good care of us. This is the good part In the midst all all this good ... absolutely bland food in excruciatingly tiny portions for a full price each. We ordered two dinner dishes + a side dish + lemon water. On finishing our meal, i felt just slightly less hungry/empty in stomach, disappointed with this disdainful cooking. Go figure out dining standard traits in our town. The taste of our dishes completely invalidated the otherwise good staff service we had received. read more

Came here on the way to the gate theatre as it was handy and really the only restaurant in the area. The food was grand. Nothing out of this world but good for the early bird price and for convenience. The decor has changed since I was in it last and it looks a bit better than the dark dingy restaurant it once was. Bland food in a noisy setting. I had the Guinness beef pie which was a Guinness stew with a pastry on top. Accompanied by mashed potatoes and some greens. All needed salt and pepper except the stew. During a recent trip to Dublin, we decided to grab a meal on O'Connell street. Strolling down the high street we spotted Flanagans, looking at the menu there were a wide choice of dishes so we decided to take a seat. We sat down in this cosy restaurant, and were greeted by a waitress who took our drinks order and gave us the menus. I chose the Collar of Bacon (and of course, a Guinness), and my partner had the Chicken with a tomato-sauce type thing - both meals were beautifully cooked and service was quick. Worst experience! A waitress approached and asked if we'd like to order drinks. I asked for a moment as we were still deciding, and asked for waters (which never were refilled again.) The waitress made a face at me. Then another woman came and took our order who was nice....she helped us about twice. I'm not sure what happened to her helping us as she never approached our table again yet I saw her chatting with waitress #1 multiple times.....presumably about our table since they were staring after we asked about our missing side order. The only person passing by our table was the first waitress so we had to ask her for help, which obviously bothered her. We were completely ignored. We had no idea where our waitress was. We asked for our check which was a burden. Then we were completely ignored when ready to pay our check. We were polite and well mannered so who knows why this waitress was so offended. Over fries? That's embarrassing. Also the pizza tasted like cardboard. 100% the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. read more

I'd heard loads about this place, particularly the fact that it had a new chef. I called in on a wet & dreary weekday night and I found a wonderful bustling atmosphere. However, I was a little underwhelmed by the food, and we ended up paying €60 for 2 burgers, 2 cappuccinos and a bottle of house red. From what I could see, I missed a trick and should have gone for the Roast of the Day. This place is perfect if you need 'a feed', if you've been working all day and know you won't be eating again for hours. I'll definitely be back - because the service was fantastic - but next time I'll go for something a little more exciting than a burger. read more
