Simple...find another company to service your HVAC. Service contract is worthless and the staff are just not knowledgeable. 2 WRONGS

I had a new central AC installed last year by another company. I turned it on this week and nothing happened. I called the company who installed it and they had a bunch of excuses and no solutions. I called Flanders for a service call because my a/c was not cooling. I was told by the rep. that she had to have a credit card prior to giving me an appointment. I stated that I had spent 10,000 for the installation by their company on this unit and you will not make a call w/o a credit card. Person on the phone told me I could give them a check which I agreed to and upon hanging up she closed by calling me an a--h---. I have sent a letter to the owner and am awaiting to see if he calls to apologizes for the rudeness of his employee. read more

0 stars! Before a big snowstorm we called Flanders on a Friday as all of a sudden we had no heat. A very nice guy came out- he took a quick look and said some pieces needed to be replaced. He called his office and they told him we were looking at a project of about $1900.00. He asked if we had any other form of heat in our home - we said no but he said nothing could be done until Monday. That would have meant the entire weekend without heat with the storm coming. We asked for a faxed estimate which came out to a minimum of $1,600 with the stipulation written on the fax "Tthe above repairs do not guarantee that the system will be working properly when completed. The technician was not able to test the system properly during the initial service call. Please note that there may be additional repairs needed at additional cost. " We believed this to be a billing trap so we called another company on the advice of a neighbor. This company sent out a fantastic guy that same Friday afternoon who did all of the maintenance on the system- replaced parts, cleaned the sludge and had everything working beautifully and it has been working beautifully since. All for a charge of $523.72! It pays to shop around even in an emergency. I don't know how companies like Flanders keep fooling people - maybe they just keep finding new victims. read more

Beware of Flanders. Their service performance no longer equals their reputation. They do not communicate well, can hardly explain what is wrong. But, they are clear on the bill. They installed a complete new system a few years ago; there were many start up problems; they sent folks who didn't know how to work with a multi-zone system; finally had to ask for their most senior tech to get a serious problem corrected. I have had a service contract--as in they show up twice a year to clean/tune up.They recently did a spring cleaning and noted that the a/c was not working. But, they didn't call me to let me know. They left a slip in the house expecting that someday I would see this slip. Sure, they said that they left a message on my phone. Wonder what they would do if this was heating season...and they found a non-functioning system. They are really good at apologizing. Of course, they've told me that most folks are happy and I only happen to have serious problems with them. read more

Flanders HVAC is not a good company to have for your Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) needs. They absolutely overcharge their customers, and they also schedule when it's convenient for them. For example, I always had a Flanders service agreement for heating and air conditioning, but they always scheduled a heating cleaning after the winter. What's the point of that? A heating system cleaning should be done before the winter (to ensure proper working order of the furnace when it gets cold). I also have propane heat -- which is apparently a lot cleaner than an oil furnace, so Flanders would sometimes do the heating and AC cleaning at the same time. It only took about 40 minutes!!! It would have been a lot less expensive to NOT have a service agreement and simply have them come out once a year to just clean the furnace and AC. The service agreement is well over $400. A service cleaning is only $140 an hour (as of April 2011). But Flanders doesn't tell you this. The hidden truth about Flanders is that if you don't "pay them off" by having a $400 service agreement, they give you non-priority service. And they only give the fastest priority service to their most expensive Gold Service customers. In other words, the more you pay, the faster service you get. I've talked to other companies who say they have tried this in the past, but the three level Bronze/Silver/Gold system is not fair to customers (Bronze costs less than Silver; Gold is the most expensive). Money, however, should NOT be Flanders primary motivator. Yes, they are a business, and I have no problem with people making a living, but give me a break! Don't charge me $400 for heating and AC service contracts and then not give me the best service you can. In any case, I'm not sure that Flanders provides faster service to Service Agreement customers anyway. They charge more ($140 an hour) for non Service Agreement customers and they charge less ($119 an hour) for customers with service agreements. In other words, they make much more on a service call for a non-service agreement customer. Personally, I think the service agreement is simply a way for Flanders to overcharge you. When you break down all of the miscellaneous charges, Flanders is one of the most expensive HVAC companies around. I do NOT recommend them read more

I agree...Flanders is a rip-off!! I paid for a service contract for a house we have on the North Fork. They were to service and channge the filters on our 2 zoned CAC system...Trane CAC units with Aprilaire air cleaners...simple. With the house to be sold, we moved to another house we own in the Hamptons. That house developed a leak in the attic CAC unit and I called Flanders...they responded and "fixed" the leak...but told us they had to order a custom pan. Well...their "fix" created an enormous leak that ran down into the hallway and my daughters bedroom! I called to complain and they said they would send someone out...TWICE no one showed. They said it was because they were going to send someone out once the "custom pan" was done. In the meantime, we called another company who came right out...repaired the leak and replaced the pan...which didn't have to be "custom" after all...and for less than Flanders wanted! We never rec'd a call back when we tried to recoup the money we spent to correct their errors which caused the leak!! Then...Superstorm Sandy left our Hamptons house uninhabitable...so we moved back into the North Fork house. I went to check the CAC system this wkend and noticed a cheap air filter shoved between the air cleaner and the Trane unit...and upon opening the Trane noticed there was no air filter! We opened the air cleaner and noticed instead of replacing the filter with the appropriate Aprilaire replacement...they used a cheapo cardboard replacement...which is clearly too small...and left the parts required for the appropriate filter on the ground. We went upstairs to check the attic system and found the same thing!! I called Flanders...and was told they hadn't been to the house in several yrs. I explained we moved because we wanted to sell the house...but had to come back after the Hurricane. They brought up our Hampton house...and I reminded them they still owe us money to have the other company fix their mistakes...and I was only calling them now because I paid for them to do a service they clearly didn't do! Between Melanie and Nora...I was asked what I wanted...I said I wanted the filters installed I paid for as part of their service...and was told there is nothing they can do...that between the time we had the service done until now we could have had someone else come in...and they could have removed the filters. Seriously?? Then why wouldn't I call that "phampton" company? Given how they screwed up our Hamptons home...they're not our first choice...I only called because they were the last ones to service the system...even have their stickers all over it..and I wanted them to honor their service! She said they would come back...for a fee...I told her no thanks...that I found this link online and was going to post about my experiences...and upload the photos as proof if I could...and as owners of a construction company...we were getting the word out about our experience! read more

I used this company a few times with some regrets but gave them the benefit of the doubt.I had a leak in my gas water heater caused by the same part they fixed last year.Called the morning secretary and told her I would be home at 1:oo from work.She was polite and gave me a half hour window so the scheduled hour was 1:30.At 2:10 I called wondering if they forgot or were running late.At this point Nora became the afternoon secretary and it went bad after that.She basically called me a fibber about the scheduled time.I assured her I heard exactly what the A.M secretary said to me.She then told me he was fininshing up a job and will be there.The man came at 4:00 and I knew then Nora was shifting the scheduled appointment.The tech knew what it was but had no parts on his truck.What!!!The company is 5minutes away and you have to schedule another A.M appointment,different tech.Payed for a diagnosis as a hose hung outside my basement window so the water would go outside till the morning.Nora,as I am standing,told the tech 1st thing in the morning.They open at 8:30 so I could sleep without worrying about the leak.I then realize the hot water wasn't working .The tech forgot to turn up the hot /cold thermostat.Time was ticking from 8:30 till Nora called at 11:00 and wanted to change the appointment till the next morning.Are you kidding me.She again fibbed about the schedule,2nd time so I called her out.She became silent when I told her I was standing next to the Tech when the second schedule was dicussed.As the battled discussion went back in floor she said we were cutting ties.Thank god!I then called back and told her not to charge me for the prior visit and she asked why.WHY!I then called my credit company to make sure nothing was charged from the company.I will not pay for people who need to cover there mistakes.3 times your out!All negatives reviews written are true experiences. read more
