I came here to have a dress tailored. I ended up having to come back for fittings about 5 times. The dress had a train and in my first session, I asked for the train to be removed and for the sleeves to be shortened. When I came back to pick up the dress, the train was still attached and the sleeves were not short enough, despite them taking my measurements in the first appointment. I came back again and the train was removed, but the sleeves still weren't right and the adjustments made the waist too tight. So they then had to take out the waist, which took another couple of appointments to get right. Considering they took measurements during each fitting, I felt it was a bit too much trial and error. They were very kind, but there wasn't enough precision with their work. The shop would often get quite crowded and several times, there was a wait to use the fitting rooms. On the positive side, they were fairly affordable. In the end, the dress fit decently well, but I'm not sure I'd use this tailor again. read more

Stay away from this place , they promise high and deliver poorly. I gave them multiple chances hence I love to help small business. Took some designer pieces here and the tailoring was just terrible. They promised me to make it right once I called out everything they had done wrong and they fixed it. Went back again since this had promise this will never happen, same thing poor work, terrible fit, stitches and threads all over for $175 called them out on it and I said to please just deliver my pieces since I was coming from queens. They said they would 1 week later nothing I had to call them to tell them they still have my garments, their excuse was they were too busy. They charge high prices for the quality of work. Earlier this week, I dropped off a suit to be tailored and told them I needed it by today. They told me that was fine and to come after 3:00 PM but before they closed at 5:00 PM. Well, I showed up shortly before 5:00 PM and was told my suit wasn't ready. No one called in advance to give me a heads up so I'd at least avoid the trip over. They told me I'd have the suit early on Monday, but, at this point, who knows? This place isn't cheap--they charged me over $200 for the alterations--and the level of service doesn't meet their price. read more

Really sloppy, poor quality work (they used to be good but now they're not). They had to redo a pair of suit trousers of mine 7 times (messed up the hemming, the tapering, etc) - every time I went there they'd made a new mistake! Also messed up the sleeves of my suit (which they then tried to fix - only partially successful). On another pair of trousers they did the legs in two different lengths. Gave me a $50 credit for the trouble but that doesn't even begin to cover all the time and frustration they caused. Definitely wont use them again. read more

Amazing tailors with incredible craft! I took a fully beaded dress here that needed quite a few alternations including tapering in the back and narrowing the sleeve. The dress is incredibly heavy and full of intricately sewn beads. These guys got it done in a week and for a fair price! read more

Came here for a bridesmaid dress - Flowy, Tiered, etc, needed it to be taken in a bit at the sides. It wasn't too complicated. I was quoted $150+ and got them down to $125, which was more than I wanted to spend but all good, it was a convenient location and they were nice / seemed professional. When I went to pick up my dress they had a 45 min wait to try it on and check it and I didn't have the time so brought it home without trying on. They had sewed my dress into itself and fully botched the job. Had to find time in days leading up to my event to rush it back and ask them to fix. They were unapologetic and got it done at the very last minute with no refund or discount to my overall job. Not impressed with customer service and don't trust their sewing! The dress was a very challenging task and they tailored it absolutely perfectly, even sewing in a 3rd layer of fabric to make it less transparent. I have small shoulders for my frame and I'm a hard fit when it comes to jackets and some fitted dresses. I brought a jacket here a few weeks ago and needed it altered. They were really friendly and were careful fitting the jacket across the shoulders and somehow managed to adjust the waist a bit because of the way the seams tapered in toward the waist. I wasnt' in a super hurry because it's still not cool enough to wear it, but they fixed it quickly. It was a little pricy, but honestly, when they do a jo that good, you get what you pay for. I came to Flatiron with quite a task. I had done an immense amount of research for a custom job and I needed a tailor to help me assembling the the pieces. I'm so thankful that I came to Flatiron, they knocked it out of the park. I was putting together a high end replica of Kylo Ren (the main villain from Star Wars Episode 7) and I came to Flatiron with literally a packet of details concerning the costume. They told me with complete confidence they could help me. When I returned to my first fitting, I was floored. It was amazing. The costume called for a well tailored cloak and billowing hood but also the sleeves needed to be extremely form fitting and be entirely pleated. I can say with upmost confidence that Ramon's sleeves were the best I've ever seen. Their attention to detail blew every tailor I've ever been to out of the water. But what impressed me the most with Flatiron is how much they worked with me personally every step of assembly. They always asked questions and made sure the details were right. And if I brought up a detail they always found a way to do it (unlike a lot of tailors who I had to fight to incorporate the details). The costume is work of art and Ramon is entirely responsible for it's expert craftsmanship. It looks like the costume walked right off the set and everyone at my theater lined up for pictures. I went to get a black evening gown hemmed. When I picked up my dress, I didn't have my shoes so I tried on at home and wasn't happy with the length. I went back the next day and met with Jamil. To start out with - I have been coming to Flatiron Tailor Shop for about a year and a half. Every single thing I have brought (shirts, jeans, trousers, blazers) have taken 3-6 attempts at getting right. These are for basic alterations as well (Hem, slight taper of pant leg, shirt darts). Every pair of pants I have gotten back have had each leg a different length, or one leg tapered slimmer than the other. Each leg opening has been a different size. When I tell Raymon, he says they'll fix it, and do the same thing over and over again. A lot of times I don't realize until I wear the garments weeks/months later. I recently went back and measured every garment I took from them. Not ONE piece was correct. For a hem...? Seriously...? They are very friendly, but very unorganized and do not pay any attention to detail. I would come from Jersey every weekend in hopes they could get it right, but they could not. Saturday after Saturday, hundreds of dollars down the drain... The final straw came recently... I brought about 11 pieces to them at once. ($365) EVERY-SINGLE-PIECE came back messed up. Including a $1500 suit that is completely ruined. They were tasked with shortening the sleeves, but altered the sides/shoulders/everything. The jacket barely buttons anymore. It does not take an extensive background in menswear to know when a jacket has no shoulder padding, but comes back with a square shoulder. Some of the pants weren't touched at all. One of the pants that was supposed to be taken in at the waist and hemmed, was actually done to the wrong garment! When you show them what's wrong, they shrug it off like it's no big deal and say they'll fix it. They don't. They make it worse. I bring everything on a Saturday and they say it will be done before the following Saturday, but it never is. All in all, this "business" lacks any form of process, procedure, or craftsmanship. If you have a month or two to wait around for minor alterations, then this is the place for you. read more

Highly recommend! I came here fuming after a horrible experience at Flormont Tailors. I needed simple hooks placed on two dresses for a vacation I was going on. Flormont Tailors not only held onto my dresses for five days, they totally botched the job (you can read the review on Yelp). When I arrived at Flatiron Tailor, Ramon couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. He assured me he would fix the botched work and get the job done in 24 hours. He even matched the price of Flormont (his rates are usually slightly higher). When I returned the next day the dresses were ready to go as promised. I asked if he could slightly move one of the hooks (just my personal preference, not a bad job on his part) and he offered to do it on the spot. Honestly I love them. I was referred here by B&B Couture after purchasing a dress for my formal that happened to be that evening. I ran to Flatiron Tailors (conveniently right around the corner) and they had all alterations finished by 5pm that evening. I have since returned multiple times, and been more than satisfied. Recently I took a gown which happened to become very dirty from a wedding I attended in Cartagena, Colombia. I thought that it was definitely ruined, however the gentleman assured me that it was fixable! Sure enough, all beading had been replaced and the gown looked as good as new! Brought a suit here for tailoring in advance of a wedding. They said they'd turn it around in 10 full days, which I already felt was a little slow. To make matters worse, when I arrived at 5pm 10 days later--the exact time noted on the receipt--to pick it up, they said they were "currently" working on it and I'd have to wait a couple of hours longer....not sure what was happening for those prior 10 days. They also suggested every alteration imaginable, even minor things you wouldn't notice, to maximize the price -- for example, they wanted to rotate the sleeves on my jacket despite there being no observable issue, which was $120, or nearly half of the total charge. If you have any sort of deadline or need something done before an upcoming event, do not rely on Flatiron Tailor Shop, they will ultimately disappoint. I would recommend this, at best, for a casual request that can be completed any time. read more

I had to add a lining for the entire dress since it was pretty see through, and the straps needed adjustment. I went in for my first fitting, and it was absolutely perfect.
