I loved this place. They're always super nice and have a pretty quick turnaround. Over the years, I've generally had very simple tailoring asks of hemming coats / trousers / gowns. This is the very first time I've had a bad experience with them. I don't know where the miscommunication was and I don't fully know what to do with my suit jacket now. I paid and left today which honestly I probably should've pushed back a bit. While I asked for a hem, I triple checked with the receptionist that it wouldn't look strange and she recommended I don't open it from the shoulder as it would be more costly and that the standard hem would be sufficient and they do this quite often on blazers. I was a bit confused but given they've shortened coats / jackets and move buttons and fastenings up before, I didn't entirely disagree with her logic. I picked up the suit today and I just don't understand why this was even a good idea. I don't know if it's because the tailor wasn't there and the instructions weren't clear... I just don't know... I am disappointed with the result on a brand new suit jacket. Also, why staple through fabric when the item has a tag... like come on... read more

I've been to Sammy Dry Cleaners for dry cleaning and formal dress alterations. I've been happy every time! My clothes always come back in good condition, and the alterations fit well. The one time that an alteration led to part of my dress looking unusual, they were willing to fix it for free. The staff is very friendly and they do free delivery to the buildings in the area! The pricing is a little higher than what I've seen on average in NYC, but it makes sense for the neighborhood. read more

Wow!!! I have a faux fur which was a outdated. And wanted it shortened. Never knew they were in my nabe cuz store is basement level. Anyhow called to see if they could handle hemming a faux fur coat. Headed on over there. First they take temp They wear masks Hand sanitizer on counter Roy the gracious owner led me to "tailor extraordinaire" Suzie who had me try coat on. I told her I wanted it hemmed to my hip line line. But she said it will look better if a tad lower. She did a quick hemming to show me. And I liked it better than what I originally wanted. Wow!I'm happy I listened to her. She did an outstanding job on the hemming. So professional. And the length is perfect. Looks fantastic. It is a very bulky coat. So for any tailoring needs, please give Sammy's a try. Next I hope to try their laundry cleaning services. Fee was $150 & was worth it for faux fur hemming. read more

I can't say enough about Sammy's and especially Roy! He always goes above and beyond to provide amazing, personal service. Most recently, I went to them for alterations for my sister's wedding. It was a complicated dress, but they did an amazing job and very quickly too. Even more impressive was the work they did for my little flower girl. I had a hard time finding a dress for my almost three month old daughter because she's so petite. Roy and his team not only helped to shorten the straps on her itsy bitsy dress, but they even fashioned a personalized mini hanger for her! This place is such a gem! I called them up and needed a dress hemmed and mot only did they hem the dress they also took in some parts of the strap which was so needed. I've used Madame Paulette, World Class Cleaners and Jeeves (which has a Royal warrant), and Sammy's is the best in New York City. Really solid and reliable dry cleaners in the neighborhood. They will give you an honest answer about their abilities. I once brought in a light gray wool Burberry coat that had a terrible blue ink stain. They gave me an honest assessment (that there is a risk of even more damage by the stain removal process) and let me make an informed decision. Fortunately the stain came out almost completely so it's not noticeable anymore. My other dry cleaning with them have been flawless. I've also used their tailoring services to make adjustments to a sequined bridesmaid dress. It was a bit pricey (around $150 for shortening the straps and hem) but they did a great job in a short amount of time. The man who runs the place is super friendly and remembers everyone. This is my first time using this dry cleaners. I thought I could trust the yelp reviews but sadly, I was wrong. One of the sweaters came back severely stretched out. Now the arms balloon out at the top, the collar hangs loose and low and it is baggy in the back. There is a big grey stain on the front that wasn't there when I took it in. Also a very distinct smell of cheap cologne that was on this sweater but not on my other one. I am so disappointed as it was a Chloe sweater that I now can't wear. read more

It seemed like an impossible feat to make the waist bigger while saving the integrity of the design.
