Eddie retired ... quality and service hasn't been the same. Just got a pair of shorts hemmed and the stitching was obviously crooked, but the tailor wouldn't hear anything about it. Frustrating because I think in the past, they would have made it right. Then I discovered that they used a weird color thread to stitch the shorts so I had to bring it there to be corrected. Prices have also gone up so less of a reason to travel here! A $10 hem was actually $20 with all the extra trips I had to make. read more

Affordable tailoring with fast turnaround time, Joseph is the best! I first came in to get my fleece jacket repaired. The elastic on the sleeve was falling off, and because it only required about 2 inches of stitching to be fixed, he had it fixed right there in about 5 mins, free of charge. I came back on a Saturday a couple weeks later with 3 pairs of pants that were too big and needed the waist to be tailored. He quickly took measurements while I was there, and I came back a couple days later to pick them up. High quality alterations and great prices. I have been using Mr. Eddy's fine tailoring services for years, since having a suit from now-defunct Label on Lafayette St. altered here. Since then, I trusted Mr. Eddy with all alterations I needed; and with "all" I mean ALL. A suit bought at the Barney's Warehouse sale that was a full size bigger was custom fitted to perfection by Mr. Eddy. Same with a Hugo Boss Jacket[1]. More recently, I had a pair of pants of a Ben Sherman suit fitted here. For $5. Same day work. Just to put things into perspective: to have those same pants cleaned at my local dry cleaners is just $0.50 less. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you: Mr. Eddy is good. Very good. I came in yesterday with a pair of pants (that had a stain on the bottom cuff). The man there was so kind and funny, he was quick to measure where to hem the pants, and gave me a very affordable quote! He told me to come in the next day which is way faster than some other tailors I have been to. Picked them up this morning, he did an excellent job! For a midtown dweller to trek down the LES for speedy tailoring service is a big risk with the opportunity cost of time (obviously). Fortunately, this risk was handsomely rewarded with an article of clothing that was altered to exact specifications within twenty minutes and cost less than ten dollars. Eddie's team did an awesome job and took care of my request immediately even though there were four other customers waiting to be serviced. Why five stars? Some girls go to Kleinfields to say YES to the dress, I go to Eddie's Tailor to SAVE my dress. Rule that I learned, never try and order to a bridesmaid dress two months before the wedding online. That is too short of a time period even for express shipping. After looking for dresses in boutiques all over NYC, I finally went online and ordered a dress that was one zip too small and didn't zip up all of the way (hey, it was the only one that I could find in that exact fabric, color and designer online ... desperate times call for desperate measures lol!) I brought my dress over to Eddie and he was able to let out the dress for only $25. Other places would have charged me $60 or more dollars. He was able to have it returned to me in just two shorts days. The dress fits perfectly! I also got the zipper of my jacket replaced for another $25 and done within one hour. Brought in a suit that I will be wearing to my wedding. Provided 2 weeks to make standard alterations. The process for sizing me was fine, and actually very extensive. The issue was on execution... ...Showed up for my first fitting on a Thursday - they promised it would be ready - and nothing had been done. Zero... ....I came back on Saturday and the jacket had been mostly done but the sleeves were still unattached, and the pants hadn't been touched.... ...Came back again on Monday and the jacket was finally in one piece, but the pants had still not been touched... ....I waited for 30 min while they rushed through the pants alterations. We'll see if it holds through my wedding ceremony. Will not be returning for any reason. read more

Terrible! I have been a loyal customer for years, but not anymore. They stained my white dress which was brand new from the store, but they insisted the stain was already on the dress. They were very rude and insistent that they were right. I could not believe how they treated a customer who has been going to their store for years!!! I'll never go back again. There was a disagreement over some work done. We paid for an item to be altered but when we got it home, there were only pins in the item. It was obvious that they forgot to do the actual stitching. My wife went back to show them the error and to have them do the work we paid for. Instead, the owner lost his temper and said some really rude things so my wife left. Also, this is an all cash business so insist on a receipt! There are plenty of good tailors in this town and definitely ones with better manners who don't curse out women. I will NEVER go back here again simply because Eddie (big nose with the mole) had a bad attitude because I made him sew a patch onto an item over again since the original job was clearly uneven. I must add that this job was given to him several days ago so there was absolutely no reason for a single patch to be unevenly sewn on. Busy and overwhelmed with orders is still not a good enough reason to have a bad attitude and do rushed, tacky work. I didn't get an apology or anything. He is very unprofessional. I went to Stanton tailor shop prior to coming here, and Eddie expert tailor is better in every way. I have also been to many tailors in California and Eddie expert tailor has to be one of the best in terms of quality and service. First impression: Looks of the shop can be deceiving. I hesitated at first going in because of the interior was old but Eddie's professionalism and hospitality quickly changed my mind about this place. Quality of work: 5/5 The stitching and turn over time is superb and fast. I brought two suits in. one with minor alteration (size 34s to 34s) and one with major alterations (36s to 34s). Took less than 1 week each to finish. Cost: 5/5 averages around 50-100 dollars per suit (jacket and pants) depending on alterations. Stanton tailor shop easily charged double for the same service and I've paid a lot more back in California for similar alterations. Service: 6/5 Eddie greets and took my measurements right away. I've only been there 3 times and he already recognizes me and had my suits ready. After getting one of the suits altered, I noticed the arms needed to be slimmer. I took it back in the next day and Eddie altered the arms for FREE of charge and had it ready by next day. you cant find this type of service anywhere in new york. We've been coming to Eddie for years. Alterations are half the price of upper west side, so it's worth the trek down once we've a batch to do. A block away from the subway entrance (and even handier on occasions when the D is rerouted there on weekends), with several Citibike stations close by. Not fancy but there's a booth where you can change. I recently had the zipper replaced on a ski jacket - Eddie offered a choice of durable zips and did a flawless job for just $30. Yah! I came here on a friend's recommendation. They expertly fixed my two jackets with new zippers, which I brought in. For my leather pants, I had brought in a plastic zipper, but Eddie said, "Why don't you use a metal zipper, like what's used for jeans?", it's better and stronger. I would love to give Eddie 5 stars... He has done great work for me and I've never had an issue with anything he has done. BUT recently, my favorite silk dress just disappeared. I took two dresses to get tailored at the same time, and only got one back. He wasn't all that helpful, claiming I only gave him one dress to start with. I had to go into the back of the shop and literally crawl around to look through piles of clothing that were laying on tables as well as hanging up. Let's just say that organization is NOT key there, so you better keep your receipts!!!! After spending almost a half hour looking, I ended up leaving, still without my dress in hand. It was a $200 dress, and one of my favorites. He didn't offer to refund me or replace it (not that it can be - it's no longer being sold). Really disappointed, and will for SURE never go back there.
