Great spot in Downtown Omaha for lunch and take-out. One of my go to places when I am craving something spicy. Flavors does a wide variety of traditional dishes, exceptionally seasoned and great value. Flavors lunch is a definite must if you work or live in the downtown area. They do a buffet from 11-1 on the week days that is fantastic. I am not usually a fan of buffets as the food tends to sit too long and become gross. However, at flavors I have never had an experience where the food is not equally as fresh and delicious on the buffet as it is when you order it off the menu. The wide selection and constant rotation makes this a great spot for a work day lunch. I do suggest getting there before noon as it is a highly sought after lunch and the place gets packed right about noon. If you can't make it for lunch I do also love Flavors for its take-out. My personal favorite is the lamb vindaloo, and bullet naan. It is an excellent choice for nights when you don't want to cook. read more

I tried the reshmi paneer (vegetarian dish) with naan. Initially I thought the gravy looked watery and had lower expectation. But the taste was quite splendid and they gave a lot of paneer cubes which is unlike most other restaurants I have eaten in. The taste of this gravy item brought back memories of dhaba food in bangalore that i cherished.. The ambience was alright nothing exceptional. Lunch buffet is a delight! Wide variety of dishes live up to the restaurant's name. Many vegetarian options, but plenty of chicken as well. Naan is plentiful, and there's almost always a soup. Desserts range from custard to puddings to baked goods, usually 2-3 choices. The buffet options vary from day to day, so part of the fun is discovering new dishes (clearly labeled, helps beginners learn about Indian food) and not knowing quite what to expect other than high quality food made with great care. read more

I have been coming here for years. I was out of town after whatever incident had them closed for a while, but it seems like old times. the staff is so friendly and courteous. I have yet to go for a single plate dinner, but soon I will. I have been to the lunch buffet multiple times, but yesterday it was so top notch. The Manchurian cauliflower was so good and delicious that I had 4ths. What the hell? I had to check that they weren't chicken. I wish I could replicate this dish. The mushroom masala was also great. The only bad part wasn't really that bad, but the muligatawny was off. a little grainy and and not creamy. To offset that was the rest of the choices to eat. the mint chutney was great. The only reason I am writing this review is to warn people that this place is not very hygenic. I would have rated it 3-4 stars for food as it did have the flavors but that does not justify roaches crawling on to your table. I cant imagine how the kitchen looks when the table next to the lobby area was infested. Me and friend lost our appetite after we saw a couple of them sticking out from the side. This happened on 7/25/2011. The family next to us and the couple behind us complained about the same when they left the place. So I am guessing this place is infested. I hope the owner reads this and takes appropriate measures quickly! read more

We've been in here twice now so we must like it :-) Both times we tried the lunch buffet and weren't disappointed in the variety and quality of the food. The buffet menu tends to revolve around the usual tika masala/tandoori staples, but it's kept somewhat varied with interesting additions. You might get some bits of bone in the chicken or the like, but it's generally pretty nice, with a wide-ranging, typically Indian palette of seasoning profiles. The service is friendly and fast, but since it's a buffet there isn't too much expected. Used plates are retrieved rather quickly and water glasses are diligently kept full. The ambience is nice: clean and decently-appointed, if not necessarily an immersive cultural getaway. One thing I would avoid is sitting on the seats built into the right-hand wall: they're too high up and eating any saucy entrees will guarantee some back splatter onto your shirt. For us, Flavors represents a welcome variation from the usual hum-drum domestic food choices, would definitely go back. read more

I've eaten quite a bit of Indian food and it's rare I see a dish I've never had. Apparently most indian restaurants are northern indian food and Flavors is southern indian cuisine. I tried the masala dosa and it was like part injera bread and part crepe. Dipping it in the sambal (which I thought was soup) was addictive and such a unique treat! Definitely a dish to put on repeat order. The only downside to Flavors was the service. There were only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant and I had to ask twice for water refills and waited for a looonnnnnngggg time for my meal. Probably at least 20 minutes.....too long. But the food was great.....I"ll go back and try again when they have the buffet. read more

The food is always great, the service is the best in town and for the price you get a lot of choices...Plus I'm here so much they get concerned if more than a week goes by and I don't come in lol...Previous reviewers made mention of empty trays being ignored and old rice and stuff...that's hogwash...Yes trays get empty but I've never seen them just stand there and stare...they take care of it as quickly as the chef can cook it up...Plus, if you request fresh rice or nann bread, they'll bring some to your table...Indian Oven certainly never had that level of service or quality of food... read more

Flavors is just about like any other decent Indian lunch buffet you've been to. Almost. Then you put the first bite of their tikka masala in your mouth, and the next thing you know your brains and back of your head are dripping off the wall and they are carrying you out on a stretcher. Flavors is not Omaha's biggest Indian lunch buffet, but it may be the best. Omaha has enjoyed inconsistent, but often exellent food from India Garden/Sitar for the last 15 years. Flavors is a contender to that long held title, and it is definitely a restaurant that I and my family will enjoy while they are making such awesome Indian food. read more

Went here for lunch today. Apparently on weekdays during lunch the buffet is the only thing available which is fine with me. Tried pretty much everything at the buffet and liked all of it. The dishes are spiced just right, makes your mouth tingle a bit but doesn't make you sweat. I normally don't like goat due to its distinct smell but the goat curry I had was delicious! Chicken tikka masala was very good too. They do a decent job of keeping the buffet filled with food and the service was good. It was very busy during lunch so the buffet line was a bit long but not a big deal. Between this and Mother India: both places have excellent food for a great price (lunch buffet was $10/person), Flavors definitely beats out with it's appearance as a restaurant. In short, if you want carry out go to Mother India, if you want to eat out go to Flavors. You can't go wrong with either place. read more

My husband and I were driving from Chicago to Colorado and stop to eat at Flavors on our way there (we found this restaurant on yelp). Chicago has many restaurants with Indian cuisine but I must say that not too many have such delicious food as Flavors. My hubby and I shared an appetizer = vegetable samosa which was really good, and two entrees: Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer (vegetarian dish made of spinach). The food was absolutely phenomenal - fresh and tasty. The service was also great. We didn't ordered a dessert but upon paying the waiter brought us some sweet rice and mango puree (?) from their dessert menu to taste. So yummy!!!! I definitely recommend this place! read more

They have a decent lunch buffet for $12. They had curry chicken, tandoori chicken, a couple rice dishes along with other dishes i am unfamilar with and four desserts like mango custard and kheer. Some of the dishes were a bit cold and the tandoori chicken a but dry but overall not a bad experience. I much prefer Flavors to Mother India. The last time I went to Flavors, I had the palak paneer and it was FANTASTIC - they are very generous with the paneer cubes compared to other Indian restaurants, and I've even say the cubes are jumbo-sized. The dish was spicy, but not too spicy. Mango lassi was like nectar. The only criticism I have is that the flavors of the chutneys aren't very intense, but overall a great Indian restaurant. If you like Indian food - you'll love Flavors! We went in for dinner and were greeted and sat right away as we showed up shortly after they opened for dinner. The place got pretty busy while we enjoyed some great, authentic Indian food. We started off the meal with the complimentary dish - a flat bread cracker and some lightly battered and fried veggies. It came with a tangy red sauce and a herby green sauce that were both wonderful. For an appetizer, we enjoyed the Chicken Pakora - lightly battered and fried chicken pieces. The Pakora spicing was a great flavor to being the meal with. We followed the appetizer with a dish of Mulligatawny (sp?) soup. A creamy lentil soup that is very tasty. For dinner, I had the Chicken Madras - chicken in a yellow curry sauce. The chicken melted in your mouth and for fans of a good Indian style curry dish, I recommend this one! They have three levels of spiciness so you can fit the heat to your pallate. I went with medium and it was perfect! I think we will keep this in mind for the next time we atre in Omaha - maybe we'll try the buffet for lunch :) read more

On a recent trip to Omaha my husband and I happened into Flavors on a Saturday evening. I don't know why, but there were only two other parties there. This is often the case with Indian restaurants in the midwest, and that makes me sad. That aside, our experience at Flavors was great. We were given complimentary papadums and some sort of spinach fritters once we ordered. Yum! We had a mixed veggie pakora platter as an appetizer and I liked that the veggies were lightly breaded and the vegetables were distinguishable from one another. I liked this! I ordered mulligatawny and a aloo masala dosa. The soup was creamy and tasty. I've had dosa before, the crepe-like riceflour based bread, but I've never inquired how one is to eat it. The server was friendly, and from the moment we walked in had a joking and fun repartee with us. So, I felt comfortable asking him to show me the proper way to eat my dish. He showed me and I was glad that I asked because I enjoyed the mixing of the sauces so much more. My husband had a chicken madras that was tasty but not spicy enough. They didn't ask us about spice preference on any of the dishes. Thankfully there was some spicy mint chutney that came with our appetizers nearby. As with some other Yelpers, we got a mango desert free of charge. I hope more Omaha diners head to Flavors. We had a good experience there. read more

Something has changed. They either have a new chef or something. It's overly spicy despite asking for no spice. Lamb korma has been my go to as it didn't upset my acid reflux. The creamy sauce packed flavor. Now it's a brown hot mess. I have literally woke up in the night not being able to breath because the acid had taken over my windpipe. A couple friends and I made a weekend trip to Omaha and stumbled upon Flavors (thanks to Yelp). I am so happy that we did. The service was great and, most importantly, the food was phenomenal. Upon entering the restaurant the host promptly seated us and immediately walked us to the buffet line. He showed us each item on the line and explained which items go with what. The host made it very personable, and the atmosphere (including the great Indian music) only added to that. The main reason why we loved it so much was (of course) the food. The food was beautifully authentic and incredibly flavorful. The buffet line had a great selection of appetizers, entrees, and desserts...all for a very affordable price ($9.99 lunch buffet). Having recently lost the only Indian restaurant in my city due to closure, I greatly appreciated this amazing dining experience and will definitely go back the next time I'm in Omaha. read more

I went here as a part of a group dinner. At times I was rather happy with the restaurant and others quite disappointed. The Happy: The service was quite good. We were treated like kings. The food was pretty damn good and plentiful. There was a right amount of spice and flavor. Definitely delicious. The Sad: The plates, silverware, and whole place did not seem to be clean. When I held my glass up to the light, it seemed that twenty people had touched it in and out before I got it. The silverware also had stains. Luckily I was able to swipe the fork with my napkin and I replaced my water with a tasty Fat Tire. Speaking of beer, they don't serve any so one of the members of my group had to go on a beer run. There is no cork fee, but still, how hard is it to get a liquor license in Omaha. Compared to the many many many Indian restaurants I went to, I have to say that Flavors had flavor in its food, but it lacked it everywhere else. I went here for lunch one afternoon out of suggestion from a friend. The place was fairly busy. during lunch they serve buffet style. They had many different dishes to choose from including chicken curry, fish curry, tiki masala, palak paneer, tandoori chicken, a type of pita bread (naan). They ran out of pita bread several times and had a hard time keeping it stocked. If you have a sensitive palette, like me, it may be too spicy. I think if a restaurant is going to do buffet style, it needs to limit the spice to appease to everyone's liking and offer something on the buffet to spice it up. It would have also been nice for each label to explain what each dish was. I doubt I would return during the lunch just because I would rather order something from the menu and control the temperature. The place looked clean and the staff was friendly. read more

Love Flavors' lunch buffet. Some dishes are always the same, but then others are changed from day to day. Always get great service and they do whatever they can to honor special requests. The goat on the buffet has amazing flavor paired with some rice and naan. Tables are close to one another, some people aren't crazy about that. If it's bothering you, go to Applebee's and get a booth I guess. Not the finest Indian food in Omaha, but I usually don't like fancy when it comes to great food. I went here with a classmate of mine, around 2PM (the buffet lunch special ends at 2:30), and we couldn't wait to eat! The place is a couple blocks down from Creighton, so if you're a student you don't need a car to get here. Reading the reviews, I wanted to see if it was on par or even better than the Indian restaurants I've visited back in California. Let me tell you, out of all the Indian restaurants I've visited, this is by far the most authentic and flavorful Indian food I have ever had! (Mind you, I have had home cooked Indian food as well). Everything I ate (even though it was a buffet) tasted very fresh and tasty. The tikka masala and tandoori chicken was very moist, pakoras crisp and non-greasy, mint chutney amazing, naan very tasty, lamb meatballs had the perfect amount of spices, aloo saag was flavorful, and vegetable curry was a delight to my tongue. There were also other dishes that tasted great, but I can't remember the name. Service was great, water was refilled promptly, and the server was very friendly. DOSA, DOSA, DOSA!!! One item you rarely see on a menu (so it deserves a star rating all on it's own). Dosa is primarily eatien in the south of India, it's a large rice batter crisp crepe, which you dip into various sauces. I hadn't eaten one in about 8 years (last time had been with my closest friend back in NY). That alone made me VERY happy. We ordered the 8 Jewel vegetable curry (so delicious!!!) and the Masala chicken (good,- although I expected more spice, b/c of the warning from the waiter). The waiter was very friendly, offered good suggestions & chatted us up asking where we usually eat Indian food (since he said he'd never see us before ;-) I WILL be going back, for the DOSA & the vegetable curry without a doubt!!! read more

I had the saag paneer and it was amazing! It was more liquidy than other saag paneers I've had, but it was full of flavor. I had the plain naan and I kinda wish I had tried garlic or another kind- but the plain naan allows you to soak up the yummy delicious juice from the saag. Don't let the bleak outside fool you. And don't be put off by the weird neon open sign. Inside, the atmosphere was nice. I sat by a window and watched the quiet streets of Omaha. Inside it was cozy and the waiter was so friendly I had an early dinner at about 4:00 and there were only a few other patrons in the restaurant. So our waiter was very attentive. I had not been to this restaurant before tonight. I am in love! They've got a decent selection of Indian beers (I recommend Flying Horse--lots of flavor, great big bottle, and I haven't seen it around Omaha much) that compliment the yummy food. I guess their liquor license is fairly new--they don't have drink menus yet but the staff is very knowledgeable. Our server was very sweet and brought us out some papadum and fried veggies with dipping sauces just as a treat without our ordering it, as well as dessert at the end of the meal (a sweet pudding with chunks of fruit in it). He was the perfect balance of attentive but not disruptive. We had vegetarian samosas, channa masala, and another dish I can't remember the name of. I was excited to try it because it was something I don't recall seeing on any other Indian restaurant menu--something with potatoes and cilantro. Both entrees were EXCELLENT! Full of flavor, perfectly seasoned, nice thick sauce. The samosas were very good too. The rice was aromatic and yummy--none of those surprise crunchy bits you find in places that cook large batches of rice long before they serve them. The mint chutney was very tasty too, although I like mine a bit more on the spicy side. The red barbeque like sauce they served with the fried veggies was also very good. I haven't been for the buffet, but I can say that dinner was fantastic and I'll be back soon. All together for a few tall beers, entrees and appetizers for the two of us the bill was about $50. Pretty reasonable for the amount of food we had I would say. And plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow--which I'm already looking forward to even though I'm stuffed from dinner. read more

We came here for a quick lunch buffet. I am grateful for the options of ethnic foods in a casual, fast atmosphere. The buffet was OK, nothing to write home about. I have had better Indian food at other restaurants in Omaha. I appreciated that they had vegetarian options on the buffet. There were rice options (biryani), soup, chicken dishes, soggy naan, custard for dessert, and tasty little bread balls. They had salad, but we couldn't seem to find the salad dressing. Some of the foods were a little too spicy for me, even though they were labeled medium, but maybe that's just my palate. If you were looking for a quick option at lunch, then this is a good place. Have been here several times and have always left full and satisfied. The staff is friendly. The decor is...meh. Eerily reminiscent of a Karaoke bar that has past it's prime with all the lighted artificial trees. Also, I feel like the place could use a little fresh air, it feels a little stuffy. The food is good as I have dined here for dinner and for lunch. Their lunch buffet is a good price and well...it's all you can eat! I really enjoy their mint dressing and the chicken tikki masala. The naan can be a little chewy and not as fresh and thick for the lunch buffet. After searching Yelp for good Indian food in Omaha, we decided on Flavors, and we were not disappointed. The Chicken Tika Masala was amazing, and so were the Seven Jewels of India. Coming from San Francisco, where we have an amazing selection of indian food, I was really impressed with the quality of Flavors. And the mango stuff we got for dessert was to die for.
