Veg Manchurian Noodles
Ankita S.

I was stuck at work one evening while my husband and the entire family went out to eat at Desi Bites. My husband was sweet to bring me dinner at work though! He brought me the veg Manchurian noodles because I love IndoChinese. I don't know what I expected from this dish, but it wasn't this, and I was very pleasantly surprised! The noodles and Manchurian curry (for a lack of a better word) came in separate compartments of a takeout container. The noodles on their own very actually very tasty! It wasn't super heavily seasoned, but had some vegetables and good flavor. The Manchurian was a heavy sauce with Manchurian kofta/dumplings. I did get it on the spicier side and it definitely delivered! This was packed with flavor and spice and everything nice. The sauce was thick and the dumplings were perfect - they were dense, but also soft. I mixed it with the noodles and honestly it was a very satisfying dinner! Probably not a pick if you struggle with heartburn as it has quite a bit of oil and spice, but I would definitely get this dish again. The portion was definitely enough for dinner for me and I finished the whole thing quickly!

Coming from Bay Area, this is one of the best Indian place. We had dosa, mini idli, Pani puri, Apollo and biryani. Great food and great service. The owner personally treat us with great service. Love this place, while we stayed for 2 days in Omaha. We came twice to this place.

I've been there twice and had great food both times. The highlights: garlic naan chick tikka tandoori cashew curry chicken I had the chicken 65 dosa and the chicken 65 part was great but I wasn't sold on the dosa sauces. I also tried the galibu and wasn't a huge fan

The food here was soooo delicious which is why writing this review is breaking my heart. I really wanted to become a regular here, but I will never return to this place. I gave this restaurant two tries, and the service failed me both times. Staff was very unfriendly both times I went. The first time I went, I noticed people having trouble hearing the cashier. When I asked her to repeat something, she had attitude. I ordered the daily special and was charged the regular price anyways. I thought the total seemed a bit high, but I didn't realize until I got home because I had ordered entrees and appetizers for 6 people. The second time I went, I decided to use the online ordering to avoid the issue I experienced my first time. I placed my order, got a notification that it was ready, and went inside to pick it up. There were two cashiers and one was talking to another customer while the other was just standing there. I was going to ask about my order when I realized the online orders were sitting on the display case. As soon as I went over to find mine, both cashiers immediately came up to me asking my name. I tell them as I'm looking at the bag with my full name on it and they both deny I even placed an order. I politely point out that my name is on the bag and then they hand it to me without another word. While this isn't the worst service ever, it was definitely bad enough to rub me the wrong way. The service must be the price to pay for their food, but there are too many wonderful Indian restaurants in Omaha for me to settle at this one.

Awesome food I love to go grocery shopping at the Indian market next door I recommend spice level of 3-4 if you like it hot 1-2 for mild Desi bites is a hidden gem you have to try this establishment I always hit Desi bites after getting my eyebrows threaded at Santhis brows next door...

I don't usually grab Indian take out but decided to try this spot after reading reviews on the Omaha food lovers Facebook page. I made an online order which was ready in about 20 minutes. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken with garlic nan. Both dishes were packed with flavor and they give you huge portion sizes! This will be in my take out rotation from now on!

Great value for the money, and delicious. It was very busy but the food was ready quickly. I heard that the tandori chicken was the best in Nebraska, and you can see a lot of students and locals like to eat here. It's connected to a grocery store, so after eating, you can grab some Indian snacks/food to keep you happy until you can go back to Desi Bites again.

The Chicken 65 dosa was wonderfully spicy to my preferences. The sides to dip the dosa into was a great journey of flavors. Wow

It was a Thursday evening and not very busy. Only two other tables when we were there which really surprised me after tasting the food. They started out with the complimentary papadam with two different sauces a mint chutney and a brown sauce not sure what it is but both great. We started off with the naan bread basket and an another garlic cheese naan definitely didn't need more than the bread basket was a very large portion to split. All were very tasty the garlic was my favorite. I had the Karnali combo biryani which was awesome had the right heat I asked for spice wise and good amount of all the different meats. My wife got the mango masala which she really enjoyed and isn't always the biggest Indian food fan but she ate hers and ate the leftovers the next day as well. My aunt had chicken korma which she raved about as well. My mother tried the malai kofta she had only tried Indian food once many years ago and this experience confirmed she's not a fan and has a bad taste palette haha. I really enjoyed this dish as well and was happy to have the leftovers the next couple days. We ordered her some chicken tenders from the kids menu but those also had some seasonings more cumin I'd say and others that she didn't enjoy but our 14 month old really enjoyed. So if you have a very picky eater maybe go with one of the other kids options. The white creamy sauce that came with my biryani was also bursting with flavor and had a great cooling sensation. The man who served our table was very friendly and even played peek a boo with our baby from the register area. Place had a nice vibe and was very clean bathrooms included. Definitely will be back and you should go check out this spot!

I was seriously craving Indian food while visiting Omaha during Memorial Day weekend, and luckily,…read moreKarnali was the only Indian restaurant open nearby that day. We reached the restaurant around 3:30 - 4 PM for a late lunch, and there were a few people dining inside. The restaurant was very clean, the tables were well arranged, and the Indian music playing in the background gave the place a nice cozy vibe. We started with the tandoori chicken and then ordered garlic naan, butter chicken, and two chais for the main meal. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, but it was different from the typical restaurant-style tandoori chicken. It tasted more homemade with regular spices, without the bright red color or smoky restaurant flavor. Still, it was really good. The best part of the meal was actually the sauce served with the chicken. It tasted like a spicy tomato-onion gravy, almost similar to butter chicken sauce, and honestly, I wish the butter chicken we took later had been cooked in that same sauce because it was delicious. The butter chicken was tasty overall - rich and creamy, though the garlic naan could have been better. The naan felt a little too dry and could have used more butter. The chai at the end was ok because it had a bit too much spice and tasted more milky than tea. The service was decent as well. The server was friendly, but while taking our order he wasn't writing anything down and had to ask us to repeat a few things, so that was a little awkward. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, which was pretty quick. One thing to note is that we had to place the chai order along with the food because the server mentioned it takes around 15 minutes or more to prepare. I did feel that the pricing was slightly higher compared to the quality and portion sizes. The tandoori chicken was around $17 ,the butter chicken was about $19 and the Naans $4 each and chais were around $4 each, so the total came close to $55 + w tax or more. Personally, I don't think the food completely matched the pricing and was mediocre. Overall, I had a decent experience and really appreciate that they were open on Memorial Day because they definitely satisfied my Indian food craving. I would definitely recommend trying the tandoori chicken appetizer, especially with the sauce they serve alongside it. I would give the restaurant a solid 3 out of 5 stars.

The butter chicken had a great flavor, and much more chicken than I expected, or than the picture shows as it was doused in such a great quantity of the sauce! The garlic naan was great as well. The staff was very nice and informative, and the place was clean and had plenty of seating at the time we came on a weeknight. The surprise was the Cheese, not certain the type but melts like mozzarella, more than I expected. Also picked up some raitha, salan, and peanut chutney to dip naan. Love the food, service is mediocre at best…read more Loved the tandoori shrimp with poratta as Dan Hoppen suggests, making a taco with the chutney. Butter chicken, naan, etc. were delicious as well as the cocktails. The problem here is the food is amazing and the service is poor. The first time we came here we waited for 30+ minutes PAST our reservation time and were never seated. We were not even offered water or a drink, we asked for the manager and never saw one, and stormed out. We waited a year and went back due to people raving about this place and had a OK time, not the best Indian food in the area but a fresh take, OK service. This trip was back to a less than ideal experience. Waited 15 minutes from seating to get a drink order. Didn't even see wait staff telling us they'd be with us soon. I expected this knowing this place is all good food and poor service, so no surprise. We were greeted AS IF this was totally normal, get your table and wait 15 minutes, so no apologies or acknowledgement that we'd even been sitting and waiting. Quickly ordered drinks apps and the meal proceeded as expected, with a more regular pace. At the end of the meal we want a box, to pay and leave. Again, waiting for a long time with no wait staff helping us. I love the food but you can honestly get better Indian food for WAY less money a mile away, and the staff doesn't treat you like you need them and they don't need you. Atmosphere is decent, but didn't have music playing even though they have speakers I can see. The cost of the restaurant does not match the delivery on the service or ambiance. Not sure if the staff is underpaid, or the leadership doesn't honor quality front of house, but it's a total mismatch. We had 2 sets of silverware and one was rolled normal like, the other was rolled up like 6 inches differentiation because of the poor and inconsistent preparation of the silverware/napkin. This would not fly at most every cheap-o restaurant, but apparently here that's what you get. It really seemed like the staff didn't really care. The price point doesn't match the service. Good food, be prepared to wait and expect you're paying for the food not the service.

The butter chicken sauce was very red and not what I was traditionally use to. It came with a salad and soup that I tried and tossed. The veg Pakoras were pretty bland as well, but saved by the mint chutney. The naan was just ok. Overall, maybe it would have been a different experience it eaten there, but it is a "no" for me.

We were welcomed with a plate of crispy and spicy papadums while we waited for our order. It didn't take long, and the chicken tandoori came first on a sizzling hot cast iron plate. The tender, spicy and perfectly salted, my friend commented that he doesn't usually like chicken, but if all chicken was as tasty as this one, he might just change his mind. Their goat Biryani totally knocks it out of the park. The flavor of the rice is a perfect, spicy, complex blend. And texture is fluffy and each grain is whole and tender. The aroma and taste of the goat infuses every grain. This is one of the best Hydrabadi biryanis I've had in the USA. The garlic naan is pillowy, and soft and chewy perfection. The perfect thing to use to soak up the spicy tomato vindaloo chicken. Wonderful service, and comfortable seats make this a truly awesome find. Definitely a 5-star experience, and worth a drive to get to if you like real Indian food.

The butter chicken was delicious and creamy--we asked for a medium level of spice on everything, and this was the least spicy dish. We had plenty of rice to put this over, and there was even more chicken than I expected in it! The tikka masala was amazing as well--I especially appreciated the pieces of peppers and onion on the sauce which I haven't seen often in this dish! My absolute favorite was the biryani. This was a good amount spicier than the other 2 dishes, and had an INCREDIBLE flavor! One of those that I NEED to have again, but can just tell so much went into it that I will not be recreating this dish on my own... I'll just have to come back for it! The chicken was SO juicy that we thought it was a different protein. I didn't think I'd like the egg on top, but this paired so well that I hard boiled some eggs at home to eat with my leftovers! This dish is so good and saves so well I plan to get one to go every time I'm able to stop in!! The overall vibe inside was larger than I expected--they made great use of the space for plenty of tables and booths. There must be a buffet at times, because a table was set up for this at the front of the shop. The service was great, and fast--very hands off as you would expect from an authentic spot like this. We got to meet the owner who was fantastic at giving us information about the menu/dishes we chose, and what went into the biryani when we gushed over this!! It was great to meet him and learn about what goes into the dishes they serve. I can't leave out the final dish we had which was the mango lassi dessert drink! This was the perfect way to end a spicy meal. This had a very sweet and real mango flavor, with plenty of creamy yogurt to tone down the spices. I only wish I could make this at home after eating all this biryani! I HIGHLY recommend stopping in if you haven't yet! The chicken biryani has quickly become my absolute favorite Indian dish in town!!!
