Despite the glowing reviews and many recommendations that ABC Weddings was one of the best planning…read moreand coordination teams in Oahu- I unfortunately was left very disappointed with the lack of presence/front-end coordination on the wedding day and miscommunication. For background information, we purchased their basic package for $3000 (which is only for hotel venues). The first mishap was when I wanted to schedule an appointment to discuss additional questions I had ($120 for 1 hour). They never showed up for my appointment. I did try calling their main line and the coordinators cell phone, but it all went to voicemail. In the end, it turned out that the coordinator was moving and had a lot on her plate, so my appointment fell through the cracks. They ended up scheduling me another meeting free of charge, which I did appreciate. In October, I was really feeling the pressure, so I inquired about having my coordinator start 3 weeks earlier than planned. ABC Weddings was quick to respond and have my lead coordinator, Sammy, start earlier for a $500 fee, to which I paid. Here's where things take a turn for the disappointing. When Sammy took over point of contact (POC), I still had my vendors emailing me directly for questions/info. Also, when I asked Sammy questions about my venue (i.e. rehearsal times/location, basic questions regarding catering, etc), she wasn't sure a lot of the times, which then meant I had to ask my venue directly. This wasn't EVERY time, but it was a lot of the time, which I felt defeated the purpose of taking over POC. I also felt there wasn't closed loop communication, so I was unsure of what Sammy was doing on her side with the vendors until the very end when I asked her to CC me on her final emails with timelines so I knew what they were being told. At the rehearsal, Sammy only had 2 copies of the timeline printed, which was not enough to distribute to both our parents and our maid of honor/best man. Additionally, we also learned at the rehearsal that she was NOT going to be the person actually coordinating the day. For example, letting us know where to go and when, updating the timeline if there are any changes, etc. Per our contract, it states: "We will check in with you before the professional photographer arrives to organize the important details, check in with family members, keep the timeline moving smoothly, get you out the door on time, organize requested group photos, and overall customer service throughout the day!" The huge missing pieces for us was checking in with family members, keeping the timeline moving smoothly, and getting us out the door on time. On the day of, Sammy was already confused on a decor piece that we had discussed at previous meetings, which led to me having to re-explain to her what I wanted during my hair/makeup. She did not check-in with any of my family members/bridal party. She only had communication with my matron of honor who was running the entire timeline/day, and this was largely because my matron of honor was the one checking in with her. She did not text us to let us know when to go where, so we were completely on our own. When it came time to put on my wedding gown, Sammy was unable to zip my dress, and the entire time I was clearly upset, she did not offer any reassurance or support, but rather spent time in the living room looking lost/confused. She did call the wedding shop, per my suggestion, and they came to the venue to help put on my dress which was amazing on their part (Casablanca!). Due to the issue with the dress, our timeline got pushed back by 15-20 mins, to which she told my matron of honor to let my parents know to delay our first look. Why didn't she text them and update the timeline herself? Although it worked out, this situation was not solved nor made better by Sammy. Honestly it felt like she didn't want to be there and didn't have a lot of care for our wedding day. I did share my thoughts with Lauren (CEO) post-wedding, and she was very apologetic but explained that "Our lead coordinators focus primarily on managing logistics, vendors, and timeline flow behind the scenes so couples can remain present and enjoy their day". This is confusing because that's not what is stated in our contract nor expected from our conversations. I understand she was doing the behind the scenes, but why was the timeline piece missing? There were two coordinators on site, to which I was told the 2nd coordinator would be doing setup/vendor management, but it seems like that's not the case? Irregardless, I felt the contract was not met, and that there was not any management for us, the wedding party and family members. Sadly, I would not recommend ABC Weddings if you are purchasing the basic coordination package. It definitely seemed that because I purchased the lowest tier, we were not high priority and it did not feel like they were willing to go above and beyond for one of the most special days of our lives.

At the last moment, we had some extra funds in the wedding budget to add some enhancing decor to…read moreour ballroom- we got married at the Japanese Cultural Center and well... their walls and chairs could definitely use some updating- so we looked around for a vendor who rented out color lights. We were between two vendors and ultimately decided on 808 Vibe. The other vendor required that we pick up the lights in Mapunapuna the day before the wedding and didn't give us much instruction except for "Don't worry it's easy to set up. Plug in, Flip the switch and Point to the ceiling" On the other hand, 808 Vibe was MUCH more helpful! I explained my dislikes of the ballroom and gave Mats an idea of what we wanted instead. She was able to help us select the a complimentary color as well as determine the correct placements. In the end, Mats set up the lights herself!! And, it was perfect!! Not to mention that it saved my uncles the burden doing this task for me! The photographer was able to capture the ballroom so that it just highlighted the blue lights against the white backdrop... and I must admit the ballroom looked absolutely stunning! It is truly amazing how strategically placing a few colored lights could do to enhance an otherwise an unadorned ballroom. Thank you, 808 Vibe, for making our wedding reception beautiful!

The dinner music was perfect and she played a nice mix of songs... not the same old boring stuff you hear at other weddings. Okay, here's the really good part. I've been to a TON of weddings before that had dancing at the end.... and no one danced, except for the bride and groom and a maybe some of the bridal party. That was the thing I dreaded most for my wedding, an awkward period at the end with no one on the dance floor. Yet, this turned out to be the highlight of the evening! Mats was awesome and got EVERYONE dancing!! Her set-up with the lighting and everything gave the ballroom a nice club feel to it. She even took requests for songs towards the end. Her servies were worth every penny! We talked to 3 wedding planners in Jan 2022, but chose Nichole. She helped us (in California) plan our dream wedding in only 9 months! She is warm and kind, and answers any question without making you feel dumb (even if I felt like it was a dumb question to ask!). Nichole does not do many weddings per a year (1-2 weddings a month). Some wedding planners do 50 weddings a year! Those wedding planners don't have enough attention to give your wedding. Because Nichole limits the weddings she does, she can focus on you and your wedding, which we valued. She is super responsive to our communication. She also sent us a sweet welcome package when we signed the contract with her. Nichole was also not pushy and non-judgemental when it came to decisions. She provided us the info to make a decision and let us decide. From the start, Nichole set us up on Aisle Planner. This had a VERY helpful checklist of what we needed to get done by when, and a budget section to track spending. She worked with us to create an initial budget. I loved that she could help us with deciding how to much to spend on different parts of the wedding. For example, she sent us example photos for each price point for flowers. It was super helpful! Based on our budget, Nichole recommended us a few vendors that fit our style and budget. It saved us so much research time to get a pre-vetted list and all the vendors were amazing. She helped us set up times to chat with all the vendors and we quickly reserved all the vendors. Nichole is so knowledgeable and experienced with the vendors as well. She knows which linen rentals company on the island is the best and which caterer's staff would be willing to help move chairs/furniture (from ceremony to the reception). Nichole also shielded us from the drama that was happening behind the scenes at the venue. There was some back-and-forth with the caterer at the last minute and Nichole helped with that. She worked with me to generate a design concept for the wedding. I already picked out a venue that I wanted (Dillingham Ranch). Luckily Nichole had done several weddings there before, so she knew the layout. I told her where I wanted the ceremony and the cocktail hour, and she figured out the layout for the venue (which tables go where, photobooth, DJ table, etc). She knew exactly which rentals we needed, so I didn't have to worry about it. She gave us a nice PDF of all the rental options and price points. Nichole made sure to review all the contracts we were signing as well. She helped me with the design of the table places and they turned out so gorgeous! She also helped us figure out a timeline for the wedding day and book a hotel block. When we came to visit Oahu pre-wedding, Nichole joined us at the venue to look around and confirm our layout worked. She also helped us book the caterer tasting and accompanied us (the cake tasting was the best part!). We also wanted a welcome event and post-wedding brunch. Nichole recommended venues for the post-wedding brunch (which we planned ourselves). She helped us print our stationary for the wedding and set those up on the day of the wedding. We were also able to ship Nichole packages via Amazon that we needed (i.e. frames, etc). We were able to borrow some of Nichole's items for the wedding as well. The only minor lapse on our wedding day was that the makeup artist did not follow the schedule Nichole created. They took too long, so my mom's makeup wasn't done in time for getting ready photos. But that wasn't Nichole's fault, and she later mentioned if I had told her earlier, then we probably could have gotten a partial refund! Her assistants were very helpful during phototaking since they helped with my dress (so my bridemaids could go enjoy cocktail hour). Out of everyone I know who has had a wedding planner, we are the only couple who likes their wedding planner Everyone one else I know did not have a good experience with theirs. Keep in mind, even with a full-service wedding planner, you will still have to make a lot of decisions and do work yourself (i.e. invitations, managing RSVPs/wedding website, designing stationary, picking music/outfits, etc). But trust me when I say that you will not regret picking Nichole to help plan your wedding!

But sadly, we're now past 8 months since our wedding, and we still haven't received our highlight or full video, despite following up several times. We also asked for a few specific/missing photos (a large group reception shot and a portrait of the bride with her immediate family) that still haven't been delivered. What's been most disappointing is the lack of transparency and communication. We've been incredibly patient, giving space for the creative process and trying not to rush the team. But after so many months and repeated follow-ups, we're left feeling anxious and in the dark. We've just repeatedly been told "next week" for months and now we've reached a point that we've been entirely ghosted. We trusted Isle Media to preserve the emotional essence of a once-in-a-lifetime day -- and now we're afraid we may never get to relive it the way we had hoped. For a service of this cost and significance, this level of delay and silence is deeply disheartening. If/when our remaining photos and videos are delivered at the high-quality standard you would expect from Isle Media, I'll gladly update this review -- but as it stands, I wouldn't want another couple to go through this and therefore can't recommend their services to anyone looking for an event photographer/ videographer.
